Flash stock kernel then use toolbox to provide dual recovery and restore your data.
thanks for the replies but perhaps you didnt understand my problem...i cant go back to stock 2.1 rom which is necessary for flashing any kernel. so i cant flash stock kernel or dual mode recovery.

Mind to elaborate why you CAN'T flash back to 2.1? What's keeping you?
simply put after i flashed alfs kernel i got cwm recovery installed. i didnt make a backup of stock rom. so after installing gingerdx v013 i now have no way of reverting back to stock without flashing a ftf file which i really dont want to do.

Ok, if you don't want to flash back through the 2.1 FTF image you're somewhat out of options ... as the only way to "go Stock" from a custom Kernel and custom ROM is ...
... Flash back Stock Kernel (that only works through Flashtool - irakkarl has a link to the stock kernel FTF in his FroyoPro thread).
... Flash back Stock 2.1.1 through either PC Companion ("Repair" - which will most likely fail with "No updates available" due to the higher version of the custom ROM) or through Flashtool using the ROM FTF.
I think you also need to relock the bootloader.

Well on my cwm recovery when I go to backup and restore then restore there is an option that says restore from xrecovery, and that's how I do it.

but we're not here to fight on trivial matters....so umm any chance somebody backed up his eclair system in cwm recovery. please upload it to 4shared.com and post the link here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431231 here you have the cwm backup, but,it will not change your kernel, you need to useflashtool, please read it carreful, when i posted that link i knew what you need ,remember you need flashtool to flash the kernel there is no other way.cheers
edit:you can change the kernel ,you don't need 2.1 eclair for that, you need ftf kernel file and that's all.
Verry simple
To restore a xrec backup in cwm just rename the xrecovery folder from sd card to cwmrecovery
Leave a thanks if I helped
Hi im new to SGS and i need some help
I have flashed this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738492) over a semaphore kernel and a 2.3.6 and at cwm installing it exited to devil kernel boot logo and since it i cannot get past the Devil kernel logo :S please help me what can i do :S
Calm down, it's not an huge problem. Before you start flashing, you have to know what you're doing.
Just flash the stock rom using Odin, and you will be fine. =)
Im new to SGS as i had a se x10 mp and that was way different than this :S can you help me where to start? where can i download odin and a stock rom? and thanks for the answer

Hey
yeah i had the same problem when flashing the Devil kernel but after 1-2 battery pulls i got into devils touch recovery.
if thats not helping you could always flash a Semaphore/Stock or whatever kernel with odin and that should give u a new recovery.
if id be you id go to stock rom then flash a kernel with recovery and then flash whatever rom you want from recovery
p.s if you wanna flash a rom with devil kernel you should maybe just flash the kernel first (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700904) and then flash the rom.
if you have got any questions about roms/kernels/modems or whatever you can PM me and ask
Hello there fellow XDA members, I have a problem with my S4. I installed the German version of 4.3, but I'm from Serbia which means different build numbers, and I haven't got any updates since(In updates i mean those small updates the size of 20mb like and so). So now I found my firmware for my country, but I also found a kernel for it, as a .tar file. My question now is, I know how to flash a rom via ODIN, but how do I flash a stock kernel, and should I do it before flashing the rom or after?

If u want all STOCK is better u use KIES for it. If ya wanna try ODIN, u dont need flash any STOCK kernel... only flash the STOCK ROM and is all :highfive:

Thank you for the advice, I was just confused why would the rom and kernel be separated
Stock kernel is included in stock rom Odin flashable, so you shouldn't need to flash a kernel separately. If you want to though, PDA section of Odin same as a rom package.
1. dont flash the latest 4.3 yet
2. downgrade to 4.2 and root using doomlord method or root by bin4ry method
3. once rooted, backup TA partition
4. flash latest 4.3 via sus, pcc, or ftf
5. unlock bootloader
6. flash custom kernel with recovery
7. boot to recovery, flash supersu update zip
8. reflash original 4.3 kernel
9. restore backup TA
10. enjoy 4.3, root, locked bootloader with intact drm keys!

It would be the same...
However you can also flash Doomlord's 4.3 kernel, then boot to recovery and flash the super su zip for root. The kernel from the leaked 4.3 rom seems to be the same as the kernel from the latest update.
Recovery is lost after going back to stock kernel. Root works.
The root works but Mobile Bravia Engine 2 still lost.

Im trying this method now but I dont have stock 4.3 kernel. Anyone has it? Upload please coz Im stuck now
To Flash only the kernel from the new rom,
In the flashing options, exclude all (right box) except Kernel.

Yes, root works like a charm but you need to unlock bootloader and flash advanced stock kernel from .256 leak cuz it have recovery and flash the file from attachment, then you must revert to stock kernel and lock bootloader. Voila!

I can't unlock bootloader Orange locks bootloader and anyone can unlock. Then I am looking for method without unlocked BL. And I want to flash kernel from JB 1.257, root and reflash kernel from 4.3. But I'm not sure it is safe.

Hi, I just root 266 by unlocking bootloader, flashing Advance Kernel and updating SuperSu via CWM, now the question is should I flash the 266 stock kernel? and why?
Thanks
Does anyone think it would be possible to flash the Xperia Z3 firmware on a Z5 only to root it. then install Z5 firmware via TRWP prerooted.
I wondering if the phone would boot up or become a brick.... thoughts ?
Impossible

Impossible dude.. Don't ever think about it even in ur dreams..
Every sony models have different firmwares.. We can't use them..
Just wait for some more times until some one will find a root kit for locked bootloaders...
Different hardware -> different drivers -> different kernel.
if you try it... its possible that you get a hardbrick...
twrp 3.0
TWRP 3.0 is out.
https://twrp.me/
TWRP 3.0 is out alright but the Z5 isn't on the list of supported devices? I've seen screenshots on here of v2.8.7.0 and v3.0.0.0 - how does that work?!
https://twrp.me/Devices/
Z3 firmware can be installed on z5.
But your phone boot and cant enter to home.
Randomly reboot.
If anyone can install rooted z3 firmware for unlocked bootloader, please try.
Not any root program can detect phone .
Why not other approach? Find which part is the app with vulnerable exploit and create a Z5 rom including it to root it?

If we can create pre-rooted Z5 stock rom and flashable via flash tool, i doubt it will boot, as stock kernel don't allows that, so again, unlock bootloader to flash custom kernel. And earth is round. ????

Hello,
So, it's not even remotely possible to flash a different kernel with the the bootloader locked?

Pre rooted stock roms can't flash via flashtool buddy. U need recovery for flashing pre rooted rom..
i have to say only one thing
Please wait and do not do something silly with your device, I am sure by the time pass there should be a way to root with locked boatloader.

My locked bootloader Z1 was plenty happy to boot a stock kernel with a pre-rooted ROM. But, as @Rajeev said, you need a custom recovery to flash pre-rooted zips. Since we have no LB root exploit for the Z5 yet, pre-root still isn't an option.
How about flashing a Z3+/Z4 ROM/Kernel on a locked bootloader. It's the same CPU (810) so you might be something. If you can at least get ADB going, you might be able to exploit it and dump the TA partition.

I'm pretty sure you can as long as they're Sony signed binaries. I'm not sure if the signatures would be compatible though.
An example of picking and choosing parts of the firmware can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/e6653-flash-e6603-firmware-enable-t3307158

Are you sure? One of the protections of a locked the bootloader is to make it impossible to brick.

Don't need to be sure but flashing ur phone is always risky if your using other phone's firmware.
If you want you can try and let us know.
