1. dont flash the latest 4.3 yet
2. downgrade to 4.2 and root using doomlord method or root by bin4ry method
3. once rooted, backup TA partition
4. flash latest 4.3 via sus, pcc, or ftf
5. unlock bootloader
6. flash custom kernel with recovery
7. boot to recovery, flash supersu update zip
8. reflash original 4.3 kernel
9. restore backup TA
10. enjoy 4.3, root, locked bootloader with intact drm keys!

It would be the same...
However you can also flash Doomlord's 4.3 kernel, then boot to recovery and flash the super su zip for root. The kernel from the leaked 4.3 rom seems to be the same as the kernel from the latest update.
Recovery is lost after going back to stock kernel. Root works.
The root works but Mobile Bravia Engine 2 still lost.

Yes, root works like a charm but you need to unlock bootloader and flash advanced stock kernel from .256 leak cuz it have recovery and flash the file from attachment, then you must revert to stock kernel and lock bootloader. Voila!

Best way is to flash the full new rom (4.3 probably) in fastboot, reroot, restore apps with Titanium Backup and you`re done. Flashing a full rom is better than updating an excisting one imo. Link for how to flash stock rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312.

You can be on stock with no mods unlocked rooted with a custom recovery and you will get the ota update and it will install fine.
The ota update link will be posted here before you get on your device so it's good to have a custom recovery so you can just flash it and it will also protect you from losing root or custom recovery

yes you can update with locked bootloader, you can not downgrade with locked bootloader.
see [GUIDE][FAQ][KK] How to Root, Boot Unlock & More
I believe best option is flash VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10.1_1FF.xml.zip with RSD Lite then unlock bootloader
do not use VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-15.1_1FF.xml it can not be unlocked at this time
WORKING!!! Thanks y'all!

Flashed VZW_XT907_4.4.2-KDA20.62-10.1_1FF.xml.zip with RSD Lite; file 15 which was system.img didn't want to load & kept telling me "fail" but I did NOT exit the Fastboot mode (don't like expensive bricks), I just kept trying until it worked on a different USB port.
Got root via towelroot.apk & then unlocked bootloader using motoapocalypse.apk.
Install TWRP recovery from http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/51942-recoverytwrp-2800/
Installed my apps & made a backup.
Works like a charm; thanks!

Does anyone think it would be possible to flash the Xperia Z3 firmware on a Z5 only to root it. then install Z5 firmware via TRWP prerooted.
I wondering if the phone would boot up or become a brick.... thoughts ?

Impossible dude.. Don't ever think about it even in ur dreams..
Every sony models have different firmwares.. We can't use them..
Just wait for some more times until some one will find a root kit for locked bootloaders...
Different hardware -> different drivers -> different kernel.
if you try it... its possible that you get a hardbrick...
twrp 3.0
TWRP 3.0 is out.
https://twrp.me/
TWRP 3.0 is out alright but the Z5 isn't on the list of supported devices? I've seen screenshots on here of v2.8.7.0 and v3.0.0.0 - how does that work?!
https://twrp.me/Devices/
Z3 firmware can be installed on z5.
But your phone boot and cant enter to home.
Randomly reboot.
If anyone can install rooted z3 firmware for unlocked bootloader, please try.
Not any root program can detect phone .
Why not other approach? Find which part is the app with vulnerable exploit and create a Z5 rom including it to root it?

If we can create pre-rooted Z5 stock rom and flashable via flash tool, i doubt it will boot, as stock kernel don't allows that, so again, unlock bootloader to flash custom kernel. And earth is round. ????

Please wait and do not do something silly with your device, I am sure by the time pass there should be a way to root with locked boatloader.

My locked bootloader Z1 was plenty happy to boot a stock kernel with a pre-rooted ROM. But, as @Rajeev said, you need a custom recovery to flash pre-rooted zips. Since we have no LB root exploit for the Z5 yet, pre-root still isn't an option.
How about flashing a Z3+/Z4 ROM/Kernel on a locked bootloader. It's the same CPU (810) so you might be something. If you can at least get ADB going, you might be able to exploit it and dump the TA partition.

I'm pretty sure you can as long as they're Sony signed binaries. I'm not sure if the signatures would be compatible though.
An example of picking and choosing parts of the firmware can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/e6653-flash-e6603-firmware-enable-t3307158

Don't need to be sure but flashing ur phone is always risky if your using other phone's firmware.
If you want you can try and let us know.
Anyone know of a way to root 23.5.A.0.570 from within the ROM?
Of course you can create custom firmware with Flashtool, but is there other way?
Kingroot is useless at the moment.

I've just unlocked my bootloader and installed this kernel using ADB. But, FULL WIPE in my Z2 :'(
Don't know if was the kernel or just the fact to unlocked the bootloader.
Anyway, make a full backup

Are you using Xposed? because after many re-flashes and reinstalls on different things, I think, that for me, few of the xposed mods were causing the loops. For example I miss the immersive mods in games etc and I simply can't get it to work correctly as it was, no matter what I try, so different xposed mods related mostly to that were causing the loops for me. I am currently reflashing at the moment

it happened to me too, tried almost 5-7 flashin via recovery from many stock lollipop n kitkat, but always get looping boot, i could get in to the language choose screen, but when i touch the screen, it will restart n always like that. but yesterday i successed flashing via recovery. what i was doin is, flash the germany generic ftf 264, then root via kingroot n recovery (i choose twrp). then use the zip MM from a thread, the back name of the zip is 1281-9709_R3D, then i flashed the 3 files for root from MM beta thread, finally i flashed bootloop fix from the same thread. then boom, get in to the boot and finished normally

Since we have a kernel made from ASUS for 4.3, 4.4 and 5.0, any AOSP ROM from these Android version will work with stock kernel and locked bootloader.

You can install AOSP from fastboot, since it's an img file. But you have to unlock bootloader to install GApps via TWRP.
After flash all you need, you can flash stock recovery back and lock the bootloader.
