As you all know if you've used this phone for a while, it lags a bit going from app to app or opening them.. In the development section they have roms and flash-able fixes but you have to partition your sd card a certain way and it so annoying that this double phone storage on the vibrant makes it difficult or not accessible at all to partition the external sd card. Ive been looking for ways to do this but I keep getting the run around to download these programs on the pc to partition it and even the direction for dummies doesn't work for me, so I guess i need directions for idiots in which im truly not. I wonder why links for each program or even a video on you-tube isn't made for this. Why in the heck did samsung make the sd card unable to partition. Im so use to my nexus and how videos were out how to partition. Maybe i need to purchase a partitioned sd card from someone in Philadelphia or just wait for froyo and hope they fix the speed. I looooove this phone but im not use to the slow transitions to apps.
don't consider my a crying baby lol Just put yourself in my position and know that Ive been all around trying to partition this new 8gb class 4 sd card. I guess if someone has an easy way, let me know. I would appreciate it.
I know how to make my pc recognize my phone, I have a card reader and Im rooted. Just need help partitioning external sd card
LOL.... I won't flame, but perhaps Samsung is not at fault... perhaps partitioning the card is not going to help.... and perhaps a little searching will show you the commands to key in Terminal Emulator.
Just saying..... wow.

I have issues with Touchdown, thats about it. I switched to Launcher Pro and have very rare lag issue. Certainly not nearly enough to go all ago about trying to partition the card and such, the phone works great the vast majority of the time. So to make a broad generalization like that is not accurate.
both of yall and the sarcasm will be paid no mind. I just said ive looked through that stuff and nothing is very clear. If yall wanted to help, you could have messaged me. and you right, what's the need of flamming? anytime someone post something, people come in with sarcasm because they aren't having problems. If yall know it all, try explaining.. i mean it doesn't hurt to type.

It's my opinion. If you don't agree that's ok. I'm not hear to offended anyone's vibrant. Is it ok to give my experience with it?
I have spoon fed you twice, what did I get? You reported me for cussing (when I typed "F'ing") and a moderator got on to me because I pointed out you made two threads for the same thing, one of which was in the development section. Apologies if I'm not dying to assist. I DID answer your question though, again. I'm not sure why you feel you are entitled to being spoon fed every time you make a thread.

Just download paragon partition manager and format the sd card as a FAT32, then put 1-2 GB partition of ext3 on the sd card (ext4 is you understand kernels, which I do NOT).
Should be simple. Paragon costs a couple of bills, but is a useful tool. Also, if you are really that desperate I sure there are ways to "acquire" that software for free. But I recommend paying the hard working developers for their thoughtful work.
If you need step-by-step on how to use paragon to make an ext2/3/4 partition, go here:

thank you. I will ignore the people that continually say smart things. I appreciate you being kind. I downloaded pargon manager and even tried to purchase it and guess what, it says my transaction couldn't go through loool.. i called pargon and they said it may be a hold from purchasing international things. i called my card company and they said it should work. but no working. o well, i guess this partitioning isnt for me lol. thanks so much though. I got all the way to partitioning ext 3 and it said i need to purchase the program. i have no luck lol

That thread is as easy as it gets for DIY.
If you really want it, I could probably script fdisk in recovery and give you a flashable ZIP. I haven't done that because I don't want to listen to people complain that it deleted everything on their external SD card that they didn't backup even though I told them that would happen.
If you want the easy to use mods like the G1 has right now, you're going to have to wait a bit. We're all still getting up to speed on the Samsung way of doing things. It took the G1 almost 2 years to get where it is for that stuff. Look back a year or so, and you will see posts about how to partition the SD on a computer and such.
When you post, please keep in mind that the entitlement attitude has driven a number of rather good developers away from XDA in the past. Even Cyanogen got irritated for a while there and that guy is a saint. Nobody here owes you anything. Figure that out and you will be happier.
Now, if you really feel I should owe you something, here's my offer. Ship me your phone, with $100USD + return shipping costs and I will apply the current ext4 mod at the time I receive it. Including partitioning your SD card and full testing to ensure it's working properly before sending it back.
That's my going contract rate, so if you want to make demands on my time, you can pay me what my clients do. Keep in mind that the current mods I have posted for free, and my time here posting helping people out, also for free, would amount to about $1000 of my time were I charging for it. That's just for the Vibrant, not counting the tons of time I spent on the G1 forums. This is time I take away from my free time, which I have very little of. I do it because I enjoy tweaking my stuff. It would save me a lot of time and aggravation to not post about it and not share. However, I have benefited from other developers here and I want to contribute back to the community. Making people like me regret doing that is not a good way to get help.

stepinmyworld, by no means am i trying to flame or insult you. However, if you don't know how to copy and paste above URL into your address bar and remove spaces, you should not be trying flash anything on your phone as you stand a very good chance of bricking it or doing more harm than good.
@ttabbal
thanks for the reply and I understand. Patients is the key I im sure. I just don't like when people get offended and I really didn't mean it like owe us attention etc. Im only saying that people do contribute to donating and such for devopement and the kindness of their heart for devloper's good work... so because we have questions, we are called idiots, dummies, etc. That's not fair. But THANK YOU. it's all appreciated. Clearly you can see that there are some evil people within XDA and people shouldn't be allowed to just say what they want to someone because they *know it all*.
And you are absoulutely right about the G1 and it's production lol.. took a while. Im going to be patient.
Best thread ever.

I'm going to point out thr painfully obvious, because I'm feeling generous. Remove the dots in h.t.t.p..... Making it http.... And therefore a valid link. The guy that posted that probably isn't allowed to post links yet and he added those to try to help you despite this restriction. And in your ignorance you attack him.
I'm saying this in all kindness and honesty, for your own good... Judging from what I've seen of you in this thread, and only this thread, I'm going to say you probably shouldn't be rooting or flashing your phone, as you are going to be far too likely to brick it.

Alright fine, the things I do for you people. I'm still copying all the data back to my SD card, but flash with with clockwork/ROM Manager and you will get a 1GB ext3 partition set up properly. I didn't do ext4 because it requires a new kernel. If you can make Odin work, you can use adb shell and paste a couple commands into the terminal.
Note that by itself, this won't do anything for you. You need to apply one of the data/cache to SD hacks from the userinit thread in the development forum. My latest in my thread over there won't work without the new kernel, so don't try it unless you have updated the kernel. If you ask what Odin is, you haven't upgraded the kernel.
This will NOT work with the stock recovery, it's not signed with the right keys. It will also not do your laundry or create world peace. If you want more than 1GB, edit the script.
And yes, THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON THE EXTERNAL SD CARD.
It uses a modified version of the sdpartd script from the G1 forums, GNU parted, and e2fsprogs pulled from Amon-RA 1.7 along with some scripting by me. Tested on my Vibrant. I'll also post a copy in my thread in development for people looking for one-stop shopping.

I think he is wanting to try the rom here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743506
Hence the reason for wanting the partitioned card, I tried to help over in that other thread but he was making it harder than it really is. I was even going to write a step by step guide using GParted complete with pictures for him. But then someone linked that same thread above and I felt I'd just be re-inventing the wheel.
Thanks for hooking him up, I've got my fingers crossed it goes well for him.. Having spent 3 hours on my wife's phone after a failed flash I'm praying he doesn't have a problem. Odin is NOT a user friendly experience hehe.
Download and burn a GParted Live boot CD. Stick in your PC's drive and boot.
Completely free. Completely open source. And simple. I've used it many times to partition my SD card for my G1.
I am creating this thread in the hopes that we will be able to gather support, insight, and a ideally a solid method for creating new/additional partitions on the Evo's internal memory.
I have seen information on this project scattered in several threads around various forums. I know several members have expressed interest in this sort of modification and experienced developers have commented on it's feasibility. I feel the problem is that most of the posts about it get ignored or forgotten about because they are off topic for the thread in which they are posted.
Now for the hard part. I am not a developer in any sense of the word. I am merely acting as a facilitator for something that I feel could be beneficial for current and future ideas/projects. I need your help in this project. Anyone with ideas is more than welcome to post. Even if you don't have an idea and just want to chime in then go for it. I plan on keeping the OP current with any new information that may arise.
I don't have much to start with, so forgive me. Most of the info I have pulled came from the threads about resizing the current partitions to free up additional internal memory. Here are the threads for reference:
lbcoder's Original Thread
Firerat's Mod for the G1
Calk's Implementation of Firerat's work for the Evo
bigbiff pointed out this line of code
Code:
KCMDline="${CLInit},${systemSizeKBytes}[email protected]${systemS tartHex}(system),${cacheSizeKBytes}[email protected]${cacheStar tHex}(cache),${DataKBytes}[email protected]${DataStartHex}(user data)"
He pulled the code from a script used in Firerat's methods. Our (and by "our" I mean bigbiff's) idea was to manually modify the script and reverse engineer the boot command line for the kernel. Thoughts on this?
I will update this with more information tomorrow and as new information is posted in the thread. This is just a starting point for the time being. I hope we can get something together here.
Also, not trying to start another bounty thread, but I know I would be willing to contribute to the developers when we get something usable.
Reserved (Always wanted to do that )
One more for good measure. I would rather have too much space as opposed to not enough.
dear administrator would it be possible to have a seperate thread for nand maybee as a sub catogary in android development, so we would have seperate "NAND" and "SD" threads
More likely the SD builds would fall into a subcategory as NAND becomes the standard as it is with all the other android phones.
There will be no need for a separate forum. If you read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894143 you can clearly see how new build threads have to be named so that you can clearly see what is for what with regards SD, SD RAM or NAND builds and kernels.
still would be nice not having to filter through tho
Do a search of this forum, titles only for [NAND] or [SD].....done.
Example for NAND: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=54393021

Have a good new year!
Sorry guys as of right now there will be no new forum with SD and Nand divided. Please use the "tagging system" provided in the How to Title your thread topic to learn an understand the topics titles and help you with the sorting of topics.
Typically I would probably close this thread but at the same time, I do think that it could also serve a purpose.
I'm going to add a poll and move this thread to HD2 Android General Discussion.
I don't think we should make another forum/sub forum for NAND builds. To be honest it's more hassel for the Devs/Cookers. Say if they want to maintain both their SD and NAND builds, get feedback from people, the burden will be heavier. Like Mdeejay, he has so much builds out already, if he makes a NAND version each one, then has to make a new thread for each one, and in a different forum, and he's gonna have to keep up with feedback for each thread.
Their is already to many subforums in the hd2 section. Most out of any other phone. Lets add an UBUNTU section too while were at it. Because that doesn't fit in any category. Vote is definitely NO
my argument is that there will be a lot of people sticking with the sd builds so they can keep winmob, there will be so many builds popping up [sd] [ram] and [nand] new posts and builds released if unpopular will soon disappear of the first few pages. and things will get confusing.
I highly doubt the rest of the cooks will even update any further builds for sd. They'll just leave them as is.

I hope that doesn't happen... there's still a lot of us that will still be using SD builds.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Zara is right. I think a good majority of users will still want SD builds. One really good advantage of SD builds is the big amount of storage available, which I think many of us appreciate, well atleast us non-TMOUS HD2 users.
Either way a forum will always have unpopular threads/builds, which in our case, if unpopular, is probably a build which has a build that has not been updated in a long time or outdated.
Lets save ourselves the server space no? It's not hard to look at thread titles for SD, NAND or RAM is there?
Why not?
a NAND and SD forum wouldn't be hard and it would make those of us looking for just NAND way faster.
quit arguing just to argue unless you have a reason for NOT wanting it. not why search is so much better.
Organization is key to success
It might be organized but it's still a waste. Why can't Devs have simply one thread for both an SD and NAND build, or only one, instead of having to manage two threads? Is our stress of simply pressing a link or two and just viewing titles comparable to the stress of what Devs would have to go through?
Useless, useless idea. It will be no for me.
To much sub-forum would kill forum
Interesting that the most vocal are the naysayers but currently 76% of those voting say yes to separate forums....in the meantime my earlier post will show you how to setup a search on title for [Nand] and [SD]...you can also bookmark these searches so you would be able to pull up only nand posts or only sd posts already.
I don't see the point or reason to add another sub-forum to the already large list of sub-forums for the hd2, it might end up being convenient to some of us that don't want to have to read thru the titles of [NAND]/[SD]/[SD-RAM], but what is also going to create is more work for the devs that will have to monitor multiple threads and more threads for the mods to follow up on. I think the new label system is a great idea and I'm sure it will do the job of showing people what to look for, and like famewolf said it about how to search and bookmark threads, maybe he should make a thread showing people how to use the new labeling system when doing a search.
Count me in on it. I think it will be productive for those of us who wish to stick with SD. Already some devs are switching over to NAND and abandoning SD. Separating forums I believe would resolve this.
how will it create more work? its the same amount of threads either way just actually organized instead of the mess it is right now and the bigger one its going to become. besides a nand section there should also be a ram section as far as im concerned. and if its the devs that dont want to "create more work" for themselves then they should probably not release multiple builds. im all for as many builds as we can get of course but id sacrifice quantity for quality... wouldn't everybody? not to mention the same build made 3 different ways is nice and all but it seems kind of redundant. why not just make the best one of all 3 versions especially if you dont want to play tech support for them?
yeah ok we can get a headache and strain our eyes on the ever growing extra long string of capitol letters designating what something is in brackets or of course go a few more steps and search but having another sub forum is not exactly taxing work. if a mod or admin cant handle it then what are they possibly gonna do when a *gasp* new phone comes out or a different os becomes available to the hd2?!? this is a forum. forums are organized. i also run my own. i cant think of any reason why i wouldnt let users make a sub forum if it was called for. having 3 separate ways to install something all mixed up together is annoying. i cant even see how another sub would even get in the way of the people who dont want it. youd think people would vote to make it easier to find what they are looking for rather then continue the endless stream of usually snide "use the search" posts. i mean...im obviously gonna continue to use the forum but its either gonna be better or the same as it is. we dont even have a app section for android. not sure what makes us think we could get this too. on the other hand not sure why theres such resistance to it in the first place...
Hello,
I've been trying different ROMs for months now and the only one that really fits me is "prj Clean Desire v0.3.2".. but it hasn't been updated and there are really some stuff that just stops it from being perfect (like News widget not searching etc).
Anyway, I'm really looking for a stock Desire(HD) rom that fits in EU HD2 NAND with a little room to spare for apps (+/-50MB?). I don't feel like having to use all sorts of tricks to boot Linux from USB and format my card with all sorts of partitions when I only need a little space for some basic apps and thats it.
I don't care if its deoxed or squashed or whatever those things mean, I only want:
1. Percentage battery icon
2. Easy way to choose the GPS location.
3. DFT install / CWM - doesn't really matter (although DFT is even easier..)
Does a rom like that exist (except prj's) and have I been blind all this time? If not (and you'll be so kind and refer me.. , will anyone be able to make such a rom?? I'll be glad to donate some of my precious hard earned money
Thanks!!
Stock Desire HD RUU is about 420mb
so NO WAY it can fit in a 512mb LEO without removing a lot of stuffand, also if removed, you can have no more than 80-100mb free in the best case and with all unnecessary apps and stuff removed
So your request is almost impossible.Only way is to sqyash it, but for me is not a great way to proceed (but this is just me feeling)
what's bad about sqyashing stuff? and 80-100 mb is more than enough.. how many apps do I need install? 5? 10?? should be enough..
second that!
I want desire hd rom like MDJ's SuperLight ROM, but a lil bit updated!

Whether or not the devs see it is besides the point. This is for posting builds/roms etc.
We have a Q&A and General forum, next time you should post something in there, if they see it, they see it, if they don't, they don't.
Can you imaging what kind of ****hole the dev section would turn into if everybody was allowed to post any old topic in here? We need it to be clean and organised.
cheers for putting it in the right place then!
When I was participating in this forum last year and the year before, I could still follow long threads and extract the relevant information, sometimes even making useful contributions to a discussion. But at this time, if not for what's left of my life, I just can't focus enough to do that for any complicated matters.
My task now is to set up a Nook Color for a friend who is almost clueless about tech matters. His main concerns are accessing the web, including web-based email, and reading books, although he might want to use it occasionally to watch video. I figure the best thing might be to put whatever he needs (or as much of it as I can anticipate) on a microSD card, of which I have a few of various sizes up to 16 GB.
What stable ROMs might be best to use and can somebody point me to a guide to installing such a ROM and other necessary software on an SD card? And by a "guide" I mean something that incorporates corrections in the original post and does not require the reader to follow an entire long thread to find important information.

To install to an SD follow my NC guide linked in my signature. It is up to date. I would recommend CM10.1.3 stable.
