How-to downgrade Impulse4g to froyo with 3g working - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

First:
- I am not responsible for any damage.
- This will change your IMEI.
- ***This will not work on Entel users in Chile as it is a locked restore (it is for at&t users only)-
- Just in case, do a Full Backup using this same method (but to your phone without the 3g working):
For Windows
For Linux
Now do an IMEI backup using the tool 5iromtoolbox (you can find it at the forum) (just in case also)
Now, lets restore to froyo with working 3g.
First, download the froyo backup file (about 400mb but its compressed, its really 3.9gb)
Here (thanks savagehq)
YOU HAVE TO DECOMPRESS THIS FILE AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD IT, OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!
The file that you need is a ".img" file.
Now you need the same tool that I posted at the beggining (for Windows) or you can use the Linux guide, also posted. (windows is easier).
1- Open the tool "Roadkil's Disk Image"
2- Enter to pink screen (volume up and down, then power on)
3- Connect your phone to the computer through the backside usb port (its more safe)
4- Run the tool
5- Click on the "Write Image" tab.
6- In "Write Image to" click the combobox and choose "Physical Disk #" ("#" is a number)
* If there are more than one "Physical Disk #", then you have to choose the one that is about 3.6gb.. This part is very important.. if you give us a backup from another disk, it will leave our phone unusable.
*To be sure that that Physical Disk you choose is the Huawei u8800-51, You can run the tool again (because it has to refresh) without the phone connected, then check which disks are available. Then, close the tool again, connect the device (in pink screen), run the tool, and check what physical disk was added. But it will be about 3.6gb.
7- In "source file", choose the file ".img" that you EXTRACTED FROM THE DOWNLOADED FILE (remember it is about 3.9gb and extension is ".img")
8- Press Write Image.
9- After it is 100% ready, disconnect and do a factory reset and you will have 3g working.
***This will not work on Entel users in Chile as it is a locked restore (it is for at&t users only)-

***FOR THE USERS ON WIN7 HAVING TROUBLE WITH ROADKIL ERROR***
Download LockDismount to fix the issue
1. Run LockDismount (Run compatibility XP3)
2. Select the necessary 3.69 drive described above (check multiple times to ensure you're selecting the right drive, for me it was Physical Drive 1)
3. Click Lock
4. Keep LockDismount open
5. Run Roadkil and then go through the downgrade process
Error should be fixed now!

Hopefully this works for me!

The camera isn't working for me, the camcorder is though. Anyone else have this problem?
EDIT: I notice everytime i uninstalled the default messaging app, the camera didn't work. I guess they're linked somehow.
EDIT 2: I looked further into it and it was the beats audio zip (can be found in themes and apps) that cause the faulty camera.

Will this work for normal U8800
My understanding is that Impulse 4g is U8800-51, which has hardware differences to regular U8800.
Will this work for regular U8800?
I flashed ICS Aurora, which nulled IMEI.
I can still get network service, but can't get wifi connection.

Look this ROM:
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=NDU4Mzc=
Maybe this ROM can work in Chile
I download that ROM and test if work

Yeah, that should work for Impulse 4g and u8800-51 of course, and if you have nandroid backup of your original u8800-51, and you restore if after flashing this stock rom,it should leave your phone just like before.
BUT, I guess I am done with testing. My u8800-51 is now working great with this guide and horse rom for u8800pro. I dont want to test and risk that.

Awesome
Thank you so much for this incredibly useful guide!
Bricked my U8800-51 after attempting to update my stock rom with a version of CyanogenMod customized for the U8800. My phone has been returned back to normal thanks to this guide.

My girlfriend, in her haste, flashed 2.3.5 to her Impulse 4G, not realizing she has a U8800-51 and not a U8800.
In my attempt to get her phone's data running again I flashed ClockWorkMod successfully and the Aurura 4.1 ROM successfully, but still no data.
Booting the phone by holding VOL UP + DOWN + POWER gives me a pink screen, but doesn't show up as a drive under Windows 7 or Linux.
Is it because I flashed CWN onto it? Is there anyway I can get it to show up as a drive so I can use the 3.9GB restore image?

I have the same problem. It shows Physical Disk 1 (Not Ready)
How to fix that?

Dummy's Guide to update your I9000 from the stock software to the Official Froyo

After successfully;
researching, upgrading to the official build of my choosing, getting it to work and typing this tutorial out (for those that like me weren't knowledged in this),
I stumbled across this thread. I thought I should also share it here aswell.
Here's a N00b's (Dummy's) Guide to how to update your device from the stock software to the Official Samsung Froyo ROM (software/operating system) OF YOUR CHOICE!!
Why do this?
You get Froyo. So you get the latest version of Android to support more Apps.
It comes with some UI-tweeks, JIT-compiler, and FLASH 10.1 PLAYER!!!
Also you get a newer (better) kernel on your phone with some of Samsung's fixes for the lag and for the GPS.
You can get features/Apps not available in your native rom build and/or remove the bloatware.
This method (not incl E) can also be used to install custom ROMs (I personally can't wait for the Official English MIUI ROM).
** Denotes steps which I skipped, or was unable/unwilling to follow, or didn't quite understand
Here's the comprehensive, step-by-step, easy-to-follow breakdown/walkthrough (Section E only works on Windows Computers):
A) Remove your microSD card (this will prevent some weid issues later on)
A2) Make sure you have Kies downloaded and installed on your computer
A3) Make sure you have an extractor installed (for Windows 7, winRAR is a great free solution)
B) We need to root your device, for this goto "One Click Root/Unroot" by TGA_Gunnman at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403
B1) Download (2.5MB) the software (depending on your computer, mine is Win7 Home Premium 64-bit) into your computer not phone
B2) Make a folder somewhere in your computer labelled "OneClickRoot" (or anything) and drag the .rar file (the one you just downloaded) into it
B3) Extract the contents of the files by Right-Click then "Extract Here" (If you don't have this option install WinRAR)
B4) Set your phone to USB Debug mode (on your phone goto MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked) and then connect the phone to the computer via USB cable.
B5) Open the "Galaxy S I9000 One-Click Root" application. (This step didn't work for me, so I instead opened "rootme" batchfile which started the command prompt).
B6) Your phone will shut itself off, and then turn on in a "recovery mode". DO NOT REMOVE THE CABLE. Use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to get to "install from " and then hit the Home button.
B7) Now your device should be restarting again but this time it will actually go to your lockscreen.
B8) Now, you have ROOT, Congratulations.
B9) Not sure? We can test to see if you have root. Goto Market on your phone and download two Apps (Superuser and Titanium Backup, use the search to find them fast).
B10) Install both and launch Titanium Backup. As soon as you turn it on it will come up with a pop up and say something like "Your device is not rooted" or "Root is not accessible" ... if you didn't get Root.
B11) If you have root it will say something like "Titanium Backup needs to gain permission from Superuser" here click Apply. If you get to the App, well done you have indeed Rooted your phone
C) Now if you want to Backup your device before the update (recommended) you can follow steps C, otherwise skip straight to Step D.
C1) On Titanium Backup if a pop up notification comes with something like "Download an updated BusyBox" allow it to do so.
C2) Now first thing you will want to backup your Apps (all paid and free and the levels/hiscores) make sure you don't have any emulator ROMs on there (they consume too much space) and delete all those unwanted Apps
C3) On Titanium Backup, hit the Menu button > More > Create "update.zip" ...
C4) On this screen select "User application" and "TitaniumBackup-3.6.2.zip" and UN-TICK the "Sign the ZIP file (with ZipSigner)"
C5) Hit the Create "update.zip"... on the bottom and Please wait
C6) Once it finishes it, exit Titanium Backup, go back to settings and disable USB debugging (as posted on B4).
C7) Connect your phone to your computer (through Kies or PC link) and then browse your My Computer until you find Galaxy S I9000.
C8) Open that folder and then open phone. Find "TitaniumBackup-3.6.2.zip" and copy that to somewhere on your computer.
C9) Now that we have backed up your applications, lets backup your ROM.
C10) According to TGA_Gunnman you can use Clockwork MOD Recovery to do this, but this is for a different (Galaxy S) device ie "Samsung Vibrant"
**C11) Follow the steps on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734164 to do so, personally I skipped doing so out of fear of bricking the device (there may be subtle differences between the devices that can make your phone a paperweight/brick)
C12) Now if you did follow the Clockwork MOD, be sure to copy the "update.zip" file somewhere into your computer (better be safe than sorry)
D1) Now we need to apply the 3-Button-Combo Fix (this is the only reason for steps A-C because it is highly recommended to have this before flashing ANY rom)
D2) I recommend the Fix by RazvanG http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821698 because it seems to be the *safest*
**D3) Firstly check if your device is compatible. I wasn't successful to dump my BML1 block, so I couldn't test if the block reads "[email protected]"
**D3) RazvanG has provided some instructions on this method see his post for more information http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9595936#post9595936
D4) So I took a leap of faith and continued anyways with the risk of bricking my device. I have it on contract/plan so if it fails I would just return it and say Kies was updating and it failed
D5) I followed the steps on the thread but I'll reitterate it here for your convnieance
D6) Download both files (RAZ-FiX-SGS and adbRecovery) from the thread.
D7) Make a new folder (adbRecovery) on your computer and extract the adb .zip file into there
D8) Connect your phone to the computer and copy the RAZ-FiX-SGS.zip into your phone's memory
D9) Delete the old Update.zip file AND rename the RAZ-FiX-SGS.zip to Update.zip
D10) Again, turn on USB debugging (you know how) and open "Recovery" batch file from your computer
D11) This will initiate a command prompt (on Win7) and restart your phone
D12) Your phone will go into recovery mode (like we've seen before)
D13) You need to navigate (Volume buttons) to "apply sdcard; update.zip" and hit the Home button
D14) Your phone will turn off and restart and should get to your lockscreen
D15) So you're at the lockscreen? SUCCESS! (mine didn't brick *pheww*)
D16) Now let's test to see if the 3-Button-Fix worked
D17) *IMPORTANT* Firstly browse into your phone's internal memory and delete update.zip (the one we put there from RazvanG)
D18) Now that you have done so, you can safely just turn off the device
D19) Hold the Volume Down + Home button ... then hold the power button, as soon as the device begins to turn on release the power button (keep holding Volume Down + Home)
D20) If you get a Yellow triangle with the Android robot and "Do not turn off Target", well done, you have the 3BF so you have a means to ensure that you can always recover your phone if you do brick, well done!
D21) You can *safely* remove the battery and restart your phone ONLY if you don't have a Update.zip in the root of your phone
D22) If you don't want to take a leap of faith try this method (safest method but doesn't work for some people): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860773
E1) Now is the fun part (we've just past the difficult parts)
E2) You need to hunt down the version of (official Samsung)software you wish to install ... just go through member's reviews and recommendations
E3) You need to find the product code of that build, you can do this navigating through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
OR by asking members (they can find out with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163)
E4) For me this was the Virgin mobile Australia build (XSA - an unbadged, no-bloatware, unlocked Froyo build with a free copy of Navigon Navigation)
E5) Make sure you update your Kies to "ver 1.5.3.10103_102" (latest as of the time I'm writing)
E6) Go visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628 for information (the software may have been upgraded)
E7) Download (300KBs) the Kies Registry patcher 1.6.0.0 (latest as of writing) <<This only works on Windows computers, sorry Mac'ners>>
E8) Launch the Kies Registry Patcher WHEN KIES IS OPENED
E9) Click on File > Backup (and save this somewhere in your computer - this is your original product code - better safe than sorry)
E10) Make Enable Spoof to True
E11) Now where it says "Spoof Product Code as" type in the product code of your desire (mine is XSA)
E12) Hit Write Registry and it should say "Registry pathed successfully"
E13) Connect your phone via USB cable to the computer
E14) On your phone select "Samsung Kies" when the pop up comes ... it should be at the "Connected" screen (DO NOT HIT HOME BUTTON)
E15) On Kies it should find your phone, and a pop up on the corner will say "There is a firmware update available for your phone" hit that pop up
E16) Now you will see another pop up and it's asking if you want to "Back up contacts before upgrading firmware" ... seems like a good idea, tick the box and hit Upgrade
E17) If the screen on the phone shuts (ie standby) don't be alerted. Hit the power button to wake it up. DO NOT HIT THE HOME BUTTON!
E18) Another pop up will come to name the contacts file - I just hit save so its the original filename in original (Samsung)folder
E19) Another Pop up will come to say "Save to PC completed" - hit OK, its just letting you know the contacts saved properly
E20) Now you get another Pop up to start the Firmware Upgrade - This is an important area, note down the: Model Name, Current Version and Latest Version (if something goes wrong this info maybe valuable for developers)
E21) Mine is (model)GT-I9000, (current)PDA:JG4 / Phone:JG3 / CSC:JG2 and (latest) PDA:JP5 / Phone:JP3 / CSC:JP4 ......... notice they are diffirent, this is what I was looking for
E22) Hit Upgrade! (Allow Kies to function when Windows 7 or Windows Vista prompts you)
E23) Tick the "All information has been verified" and Click Next
**E24) Let Samsung record your phone number in their database? I don't care (I'm on insurance/contract/plan) and I hit "Allow saving" ad Clicked Next
E25) Wait patiently, its downloading the rom from the server, DO NOT UNPLUG THE DEVICE
E26) A progress bar will appear, your USB will get disconnected, reconnected several times, the phone will be stuck on the yellow triangle screen - these are normal
E27) The progress bar will slowly be filled from grey to blue and a progress bar will appear on your phone - almost there!
E28) The progress bar on the computer will finish and the pop up will read "GT-I9000 Upgrade completed" - Click Close
E29) Your phone will restart and will enter "recovery mode" some yellow texts will appear and scroll forward
E30) The phone will reboot again and you will see the boot image with the Galaxy S logo
E31) The phone will be stuck on that logo for awhile - be patient
E32) The phone will now get to your lockscreen, unlock it
E33) You will have to go through your initial setup firstly its the Swype tutorial, then data settings, and finally the account settings emerges
E34) If the Kies connection screen comes up: hit the home button
E35) Now you should have come to your Homescreen go and test everything (all your passwords, all your bookmarks, all your contacts, all your images/music/videos and all your apps (except bloatware) should be there but the order of all the widgets/apps in TouchWizz will be reset to abc-order)
E36) Goto Settings > About Phone Does it say Android 2.2?
E37) Well done you have passed Android Hacking 101, you are officially smarter than 50% of iPhone and Blackberry users
E38) Donate me a beer, nah just kidding, enjoy everything for free but feel free to donate to the developers that help make this possible

Aww Mate this is awesome, I have the same Carrier and I had OPTUS crap on my Phone from custom roms, Now I'm back to Stock Froyo!!!!
A great tool to Start from afresh.....
But
At Instruction E11 - Select your product code from the drop down Box and it will populate the next field for you.
Gonna put into my favorites
Wow.
I don't think anybody that don't now much would read that.
I know allot and i would never use it either.
You should stick a warning sign on this tread.
I did read about half of it and then i just stop and shake my head.
I hope this tread is a joke.....

Can you elaborate?
Joke? No it's no joke but I should disclose (as always) this is a tried-and-true way of getting you to update your software but in no way can I be held responsible for damages.
Things may vary slightly in between different phones which is why the links for each source/thread is up there.
I found myself knowing what to do, but always guessing how to do it.
This is a step-by-step process of how and what I did to upgrade my phone to any ROM I want.
If this was posted up before I attempted my upgrade, I would've been so happy that someone really simplified it for me
This is a noobs guide??!!! Simplified??!! I think that everyone will appreciate the time you have spent typing this up and trying to help, but I'm with DamianGto, dude this guide is scary and just explains how YOU got YOUR particular phone running froyo and lets face it, you certainly didn't go about it the easy way!
Once again I think the time you have spent and the willingness to help is admirable, but there are much simpler and noob friendly guides out there

Well you need root + busybox to get the 3 button fix.
If anything a n00b did, they can recover with 3 button trick otherwise they will have a brick.
This is why this guide is long, to ensure things are a-ok.
If you found a friendlier guide can you post the link, much apprecated ;D
How do I exit downloading mode if I forgot to erase update.zip ?
What is it ? Kies
A2) Make sure you have Kies downloaded and installed on your computer
Thanks
Well I think this is an excellent guide that has great potential!
However, a couple of crucial mistakes, which if fixed could help make the guides less confusing...
At beginning of (D) you talk about (A-C) being solely so you could fix your 3 button download (which I don't think is actually true!)
.... But, you should mention 3 button download at the very start of the guide anyway!!
Also, you should include a quick test at the very start to check for 3 button download, because mine is already fine, so a newbie might run all those extra steps when they already had working 3 button download anyway! (The more sections that can be skipped the better!). You can then steer people to the sections they uniquely will need.
However, titanium backup isn't needed for 3 button download fix, but is a wise step before running a rom update. And this works best with root anyway. Hence I don't think your opener for (D) is very accurate. You didn't just complete those steps JUST to get download mode. The backup was important anyway!
Do others think there should be a stage added for backing up contacts etc?
A stage for backing up efi?
Anything else wise that should be in here?

Quick & Easy method to turn your tab to EXT4

Basically, make sure you've got a microSD card with about 650mb (or more if you have a lot of apps installed, check via Settings -> SD Card menu) free on it for the ext4 conversion before you even start.
Download the ext4 version of the kernel from;
http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-galaxy-tab-tab-modaco-com/330378/26-jan-r3-modaco-custom-kernel-for-the-samsung-galaxy-tab/
(You _might_ need an account on the site first, not sure)
Install the Samsung Kies software so you've got the USB drivers installed (or install just the drivers from:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201010/20101026044755031/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.3.350.0.exe
Turn your tab off, turn it back on holding the DOWN volume button until you get the big yellow triangle.
Plug it into your PC and run Odin. Make sure that one of the leftmost boxes lights up yellow and says "COM" in it (along with a number). If not, then it hasn't picked up the tab, try rebooting the PC and/or trying another USB port.
Click the big "PDA" button and select the "p1000-mck-r3-ext4-cwm.tar" file that you downloaded (do NOT extract the archive!)
Then press the "Start" button and cross your fingers.
If the tab seems to hang, give it 5 minutes before you hold the power button down and then turn it back on again. It should sit there for several minutes and perform the conversion.
Once you're done and up & running, you can save the full firmware/ROM to the MicroSD card, boot into recovery by turning the tab on hold the UP volume button, then using the "Select ZIP from sdcard" option to flash the firmware. This will WIPE all custom applications and settings you have installed! I'd recommend doing a "wipe data/cache" before flashing this just in case though.
The full MCR firmware is available from:
http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-galaxy-tab-tab-modaco-com/331479/04-feb-r1-modaco-custom-rom-for-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-with-online-kitchen/
There are also alternative firmware's (e.g. Overcome, Rotohammer) on this forum - they're all currently based on the same official JMI firmware with various tweaks. The MCR kernel seems to be the easiest way to start.
Full credit goes to Paul @ MoDaCo for releasing the kernel in the first place.
I typed most of this out for someone, figured I'd post it here as well in case it's useful to someone.
WARNING: Check the integrity of anything download from the MoDaCo server(s) before flashing as their server(s) frequently seem to have issues completing downloads.

Make sure you have sufficient space. In my case I needed more than 500MB. My system was corrupted because it tried to backup the existing system onto the microSD and I only had 639MB free, which was insufficient for me. Then when my system rebooted, I kept on getting force closes from Nook and Titanium Backup and some other apps.
nice work!
Hi knightnz,
Sorry for this noob question.
Does this means I can do it on my stock rom without installing anything or customizing my tab?
Is clockworkmod recovery required to execute this conversion?
Thanks.

You have to flash a new kernel, which will also flash ClockworkMod Recovery onto your device, so the answer to your first question is no, you can't do this without customising your Tab (new kernel, new recovery!), and your second question, yes you need ClockworkMod!
Regards,
Dave
Yup, on the Galaxy Tab the recovery gets packaged in with the kernel installation, so if you flash a zImage, you're probably replacing the recovery as well. (I'm sure it could be omitted, but so far it seems this hasn't been the case).
At the moment all SGT recovery's are based on ClockWorkMod (this includes the MCR kernel version).
As for "stock rom", well I'd class a complete filesystem conversion as definite customising. If you _just_ replace the kernel and do the ext4 conversion though and don't worry about replacing the main firmware, then you'll retain your existing system exactly as it was, it'll be snappier though, and you'll then have access to the CWM recovery should you ever need it.
I had difficulties flashing this as the Modaco server kept on stopping the download when incomplete. I had an hour of scratching my head when I saw that the download was 4 1/2 Mb when it should be 6.66.
It took me about 6 tries to get the full file and was sweating when I saw the following screen:
phone --- ! --- Computer
Keep an eye out for this chaps...

Yes, I already did that once. Go into the development section and find the Roto JME rom, get the full rom, the p1_hidden.pit, and a modem of your choice, and follow Roto's instructions to the letter, and you will have rfs, and your CWM3 will be gone.
I'm used to the speed increase now. Perf drop if i went back.
Ext4 is stable enough

Yeah, their "load balancing" server doesn't seem to have very good balance by the look of it, downloads fall over frequently.

Help me please, how to restore original firmware?

Dear developers,
I have deleted (by mistake) program Launcer from my Smartphone and now it is not going to load. When I turn on it, there is only symbol of IDEOS. After a minute symbol starting to twinkle, but system not loading.
Could you please tell me how can I return to original firmware?
I hope someone will be able to support me.
If the launcher is the problem, you can just install another, or push again the original from a rom via adb. I assume that the device is rooted(I think you cannot delete a system app if isn´t). If you can connect to pc, then possibly you can install a launcher from huawei' s suite(I´m not sure because I don' t use windows and I haven't try this app) or from a android file manager like QtADB, Android commander or Droid Explorer. You can also install it only with adb via windows command prompt:
http://www.brighthub.com/mobile/google-android/articles/37151.aspx
And maybe, if wifi is enabled and connected, you can just install a launcher from market via pc' s web browser:
https://market.android.com/
The Modaco wiki has a list of original firmwares, but no link to Huawei works anymore. However, it is possible to download the latest China Unicom firmware - which does contain english language support. That should at least get you started.
As a new user I can't post links yet, but it is easy to find if you look for u8800 software, and then switch to Chinese.
Put the extracted directory (dload) on an sd card, in the top/root, put it in the phone and then hold volume down and power on.
Note, this will blow everything away to start from scratch so make sure it is what you want. In addition everything will be in Chinese so you need to be able to navigate to the settings to set it to English.
Better ideas? I am a noob myself so no guarantees...
I have unrooted it before to delete some trial games. And deleted Launcher by mistake.
I can't connect via usb now.
I'm afraid if I upgrade firmware, I have less memory because old one will not be deleted. Or maybe I'm wrong?
No, you're not gonna have less memory.
Did you tried to wipe to factory defaults from recovery mode(power button and vol+)?
You will not have less space because an original firware will format everything from boot partition, system and data... Basically , it will give you original software and status like it came from factory ... Like the other user said, jut find it, extract it , put the dload directory to the root of you sd card and hold volume down and start up the phone ... You will see a progress bar and when it is finished , the phone will restart itself, you will have to wait longer due to the creation of new files and there you go

Install recovery first, then you can connect your device to PC using recovery. If you have friend that have X5, copy the launcher. Else, just install Custom ROM.
The old one will be removed if you install custom ROM. If I'm not wrong.
Recovery.
Unplug USB, turn off your phone, press and hold vol + and -, then press power. Hold those three buttons until it turned on and the screen is purple-pink.
Backup all image data(copy). The rest is in the link.
Sorry for my English. Hope you understand what I write..

You are magician. it works now.
hmmm... but there is no launcher application - no workspace available. it doesn't want to load as before. strange.
upgrade don't work too. It is cycle repeating of step1/2.
I just tested and found that you can copy the missing apk from bootloader mode. In this mode(power + vol- + vol+ buttons), when connected to pc via usb cable all partitions of device mounted(at least this happens on linux). So, you can navigate to system partition on /system/app folder and copy there the missing launcher' s apk file. You can find this file on a custom' s rom(or on an official' s rooted rom like modaco's roms) update.zip file. It's on system/app folder. I tested this on linux and I could(not as normal but as root user though) copy or delete files from there.
dancer_69, thank you for your support. At my side when I connect via bootmode, there is only flashdrive is visible.
It's really strange that it is not going to upgrade.
I'm able to apply sdcard:update.zip. So maybe if to put this application inside of the card, it could install. but I don't know how to do it.
I finded apk file and tried to install it but it don't receive file because it hasn't some certificate. ???
I think you have 3 options here.
1. flash an official rom(you put the dload folder of rom's zip file on root of sdcard and boot to bootloader mode. The update starts automatic)
2. Use a linux system(maybe a livecd) to access the other partitions.
3. Try to reroot the device from pc, via superoneclick app(you can find it here), so to have access to system again.
but I haven't access to installation program area. nothing!
I have only ability by pressing (vol + and on) to choose install update.zip from flash card.
so.
1. when I runned new firmware from dload it didn't install. it was cycling at first level (1/2)
2. linux is good idea. but I'm not sure that it's will be profitable. maybe I have turned off access to partitions inside of phone
3. I can't install superoneclick as I'm not able to install any application.
I hope we are closer to some geniously idea. I have bought phone yesterday and we haven't service center in our city. So, I need to buy the other one.
This is not so serious problem, it' s not hardware, it´ software related. And I think you cannot turn off access so easy.
The superoneclick is a pc application. You don't need to install something on device(if I remember well, because I use it once before a long time). You can try it.
And you can try linux too.
I don't think that this is a problem that only service can solve it.
What firmware you tried? Try another one. And better try to find the one that you device has(if you know it)
Thank you for positive opinion.
1. Will try to change firmware as you said. Try 2 more firmware from Huawei.
2. Superoneclick needs approval from phone, today night I wasn't able to run it.
3. I'll try Linux too.

[FAQ]The Blade FAQ thread

Hi
An FAQ thread for Blade users.
Credits to StevenHarperUK
This is a guide to cover most of the common problems.
It contains some words like ROM and Build.props and RECOVERY. PM me if u can't understand anything
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--I want to know whet generation of phone I have
[GEN1] or [GEN2]
There are now 2 Generations of the ZTE-BLADE device. Each have a different style memory
layout.[GEN1] BLADES use the baseband of 0x02A00000 and can use all of the ROMS made [GEN2]
BLADES use the baseband of 0x02600000 Trying to install a GEN1 ROM onto a GEN2 device will
brick it. GEN1 devices can be recovered and converted with a TPT
--How to find out what BLADE you have (GEN1 or GEN2)
You need to install this app Ask Mr Pigfish When you run the APP the first line will be
Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen1 model
--How do i root my phone
ZTE Blades with Android 2.2 or lower can be rooted using z4root mod. If it doesnt work, or you have 2.3
blade there is a How to root thread in the Blade Android Development section
--How do i install a rom
-Download the Rom
-Download GoogleAps (CyanogenMod only)
-Backup your data using software like Titanium Backup
-Install clockworkmod recovery from Rom manager
-Boot into recovery (Power + volume down)
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-install zip from sdcard option ---> select your rom
-do the same for GoogleApps
-reboot (first boot takes a while)
--The Custom ROM wont Boot Properly. Gets Stuck at the Animated/non-animated boot
screen.
This can be because of a few things You have installed a new ROM and need to clear you cache
and factory reset You installed a Theme or patch without letting the new Custom ROM boot
first The ROM you flashed was damaged when downloading - check with md4sum - re-download and
re-flash. Your SD card is in a very bad state Your SIM has a pin card (effects some of the
early 2.2)
--I want to change my partition sizes
Doing this will require a TPT. These can be made or downloaded using the App TPT helper from
the Play Store ( as of now, there is NO TPT for Chinese Blades )
--I Want to send my Phone back to the Operator - how do I make it back to stock?
The best way to do this is to run a TPT which has been made for your operator's original
ROM. A TPT that is built to do this restores the phone to exactly as it comes out of the
factory. This includes BOOT, RECOVERY and SYSTEM partitions. The DATA and CACHE are also
wiped.
--I can not get into Recovery (clockworkmod)
Make sure you are pressing (and holding) the Volume Down button (-). If you Just see some
large text of FTM then you have not installed a Custom Recovery Image yet
--Phone cannot READ/Mount SD Card
1)SD Card is Damaged
2)Card is not formatted correctly. Download - MiniTool Partition Wizard
3)Card not Seated correctly in Holder
4)The Card needs cleaning : take it out and carefully clean it with alcohol (and a
cottonbud)
--Fastboot can not Install ClockworkMod
If you get waiting for device Check USB debugging is on.On windows check drivers. On others,
check your running as root and try other USB ports/ cables. Try using ADB Wireless from the
market. If you get "writing 'recovery': FAILED (status read failed (Protocol error))
android" change the usb cable, and try another USB port.
--I want to get rid of the inbuilt apps but don't feel comfortable installing a ROM
This is possible, you gain root on the device, then use tools to remove the apps. Eg: Root Uninstaller or Titanium Backup
--Have I got TFT or OLED?
Well if you have a UK device you may have OLED If you purcashed it in 2011 you almost
certainly have TFT Both are good- but having a TFT device means that you must avoid non-TFT
compatibe ROMS (All new ROMs are TFT friendly)On some ROMS you can use the Dialer to find
out. Dial *983*24474636# in the dialer. On the Stock Orange ROM Devices that have TFT
Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B08 (OLED can have this buid also - but rarely)
Devices that have OLED Screens have the build Number OUK_P729BV1.0.0B0. The build Number can
be found in - Settings | About Phone | Build Number
--How can I keep my apps and settings when I install a new ROM?
Before installing a new ROM you can use Titanium Backup to backup all apps you have
installed. After the new ROM has been installed you can restore the apps plus their data (to
keep your Angry Birds progress and scores, for example). The paid-for version of Titanium
Backup allows you backup and then restore many/all apps with the batch command to save time
reinstalling each app individually.
In general, system settings should not be restored on a new ROM. Restoring them can undo the
effect of wiping data/restoring to factory settings before you flashed the new ROM and you
run the risk of incompatible settings causing forced closure of system apps or, even worse,
random reboots of the phone. Contacts can be restored automatically (and safely) by syncing
with your gmail account(settings->accounts & sync and turn on both sync options) - you need
to do this in your old ROM so the data is in place before you install the new ROM. Many
people have reported that SMSs can be restored safely between most ROMs with Titanium
Backup, but other system settings, e.g. wireless access points, may cause problems that may
require the ROM to be reflashed. In all cases you should always use Nandroid backup in
Clockwork to save the state and settings of your previous ROM which will easily allow you to
return to a working state of your previous ROM in case things go wrong.
--How do I remove a custom theme I installed on any ROM, without factory reset?
Simply Re-flash the original ROM over the top in Clockwork. You'll get the original theme
back.
--I want to install a ROM, but remove some of the
included APPs
Simply open the ZIP file you downloaded and browse to /system/app Then remove the APPS you
don't want - be careful, you don't want to remove apps like mms.apk (SMS) and Phone.apk
--Orange SIM card will not make calls, other networks SIM cards work
The phone, as delivered by Courier is barred from OrangeUK's own network until "activated"
If you buy your phone from an Orange shop they are activated (unbarred from the Orange
network) and handed to the purchaser.
--Phone won't boot - only vibrates when I press power
When you try to turn the phone on with the power button you just feeling a quick succession
of vibrations. This means there is not enough power in the battery to boot. Make sure your
phone is plugged into the Adapter and is using the supplied USB cable.
--Wifi Keeps dropping
On 2.1 and leaked 2.2 ROMS - wifi is a real problem. There are many different work-rounds;
however now the kernel source for 2.2 is released - new ROMs don't gave it. Alternatively
there's a Blade wifi fix app available
--Phone wont turn on. It just Buzzes and red light is on back button
Try charging with another cable - your phone is out of battery
--The phone is Not connecting to 3G/ Cant get Data/ Cant send MMS, etc.
If you cannot get data over 2g/3g then your APN setting may be wrong You edit the APN's in
Setting / Wireless & Network Settings / Mobile Network settings / GSM/UMTS Options / Access
Point Names / then click the phones MENU button (hard button) then choose Add APN.
Also check your SIM is 3G
--I am trying to unlock the phone, how do I get to the enter code screen
You can only see this screen by putting in a SIM that is not the same as the ROM you have
expects So if you have a Orange TFT device that is on the standard (stock) ROM, you will
need a SIM that is not Orange (Virgin/TMobile) Once you insert a SIM that is not unlocked
you get the ENTER code screen
--The Phone Wont Read Any SIM Cards
Thickening the SIM with layers of tape (on the non useful side) has proven to work
--Cant make outgoing calls when Wifi is ON
The icon on the the top bar shows 4 reception bars gets a small x on it, the red led flashes
and outgoing calls cannot be made. Switched to airplane mode and back returns the signal -
it only ever does it when wifi is on. This is probably because you are running one
of the leaked Chinese beta kernels. Running a ROM that has a new 2.2 source
Kernel will fix this.
--What is an MD5hecksum
MD5 is a way of checking that the file you have downloaded has not been corrupted in any
way. when you run the MD5sum command against a files the response is the files
"fingerprint". If this differs from the expected MD5, then you need to re-download the file.
MD5 can be checked directly on the device by using a file manager like astro - if you look
at the details of a file an MD5 is generated Windows
Get your md5sum utility from:
http://www.md5summer.org/md5sum.zip
Extract this Zip file contents and put them into the folder you want to run the command in.
--I want to change the files in the system partition
To do this you can use ADB to modify files or Root Explorer
--I Used Factory Reset now my Phone wont boot
Custom ROM resets are best done in clockwork. However you may have problems with
Unsigned Themes. If you have a theme Installed, you may need to re-install the Original ROM
over the top to get it to boot.
--I want to change how my phone's screen looks like / Theme my phone
In any ROM you can change your background(click the MENU hard button when in the home
screen). However some custom ROMs have themes
made for them. There is a whole section on themes and Apps for the ZTE Blade - However the
most themes are specifically matched to a single or a few ROM's. Some themes are simply
applied to launchers that support them - i.e. launcher pro.
Other need to be installed via Clockwork just like a normal ROM - for these you should
always boot the ROM before applying the theme. Also you should always do a clockwork
(nandroid) backup before applying a theme.
--I dont like the keyboard I have
Keyboards on Android can be swapped. To change a keyboard - Activate it in Settings >
Language and Keboard Then in ANY app do a long hold in any text areas wich wold normall show
the keybaord - then choose Input Method
--Bluetooth file Transfer doesn't work properly
Plain vanilla Android has seemingly limited general file transfer capabilities. You can
download market APPS that are far superior. Bluetooth File Transfer (free) Astro File
Manager (free) add the Astro Bluetooth module (free)
--I want to use A2SD but what do I do
Firstly you need a ROM that supports A2SD, next you need to know if it support EXT2/3/4. Now
you need to change the way your SDCard is Partitioned. In Ubuntu use GParted - in Windows
get the home version of partition wizard. Now Copy EVERYTHING off the SD Card. Make the
FIRST partition the FAT32 one (primary partition) - leave 512MB or more for the EXT2/3/4
(where apps will be installed) Now Make Another partition (must be the SECOND) as EXT2/3/4 -
also make this primary. Now mount the Card and copy all your data back to the FAT32 Part -
assuming it fits. When you install/next boot you ROM, the EXT2/3/4 partition will be mounted
as DATA / this is where your apps go from now on.
--I have bought a bigger SD Card and want to swap it into my Phone
If your just using FAT32 (no app2sd) this will be easy. Right Simple - mount the current one
over USB on your Computer (you can do this in Android - or in Clockwork) Copy everything off
onto your computer. Unmount and Swap new card into phone. Remount over USB. Copy everything
back on
--I am upgrading my ROM and don't want to lose my contacts
If you sync your contacts via Google (gmail account), then the contact will be re-
downloaded when you re-enter your Google Account after flashing. You can see your accounts
in Menu > Settings > Account & Sync Otherwise you can go into the Contacts App and choose
Menu > Import Export. The Export will made a new large file with all your contacts in. This
will be written to the root of your SD Card. Import will scan your SD Card and look for any
files that are contact backups.
--I set a BAD SSID in the Wifi Hotspot - now I cannot start Tethering
If you set a SSID on your hotspot to be too long (over 32 characters) or with non valid
characters - then you make it impossible to start the Hotspot. You MUST use ADB to edit the
hotspot name manually
: adb -d shell
: sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.provid
If sqlite3 is not installed on your ROM you can download titanium backup from the market
then use the alternate command
:adb -d shell
:/data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBack
--I want to import all my contacts into Gmail - so they can sync with my phone
Google dont tell you anywhere what the Magic format is of their CSV. Copy the first line
from below, then simply add all the contacts you need into the format of the
2nd line Most Spreadsheet programs will let you open the CSV and edit it. Then just import
the file into Google Contacts (selecting a group when you do it) - I suggest a new group.
--How do i get ICS on my phone
There is no official ics for the blade, however, There are several ics roms to choose from. However there is no perfect release and all of them have certain bugs and issues.
--Can I boot more than one rom on a ZTE Blade
Thanks to [email protected], Snap.IT and Jinxxed, this is now possible. Head over to the Blade Android Development subforum to see the threas
September 21st : ZTE BLADE DAY
Guys feel free to reply with corrections and suggestions so that I can add then to the OP
Thanks to yash_p90 and karthiknr for assistance
good job is helpfull
Nice.
Good job. You should probably do some formatting. I can help you with that if you want!
Please note that there is no method available to change the partition size on the Chinese Blades. Thus the TPT method won't work. You must mention this in your question "I have changed my partition sizes to have a 128MB system, I want to change it back"
/Sticked. I hope this and the Faq thread I stickied yesterday will offer easy accessible information and resources to the ZTE Blade users. I hope you guys appreciate QuantumFoam and karthiknr effort.
Quantum add the question "Is multiboot possible on Blade?"

I already replied to ur thread in the General Forum
very helpful,
thanks ∩__∩
I've a ZTE V889D bought from China. Is this Blade version? When I run Mr Pigfish, it says unknown model. It has similar spec:
http://www.zte.com.cn/cndata/mobile/mobileinfo/201203/t20120329_298335.html
No, that's not a blade. It uses MSM7227A as CPU, that is an ARMv7 (blade uses MSM7227 that is ARMv6). Blade in China is called V880 and that version has only 256mb RAM ( http://www.dealextreme.com/p/zte-v8...dma-3g-single-sim-w-wifi-white-101744?item=24 )
Your phone should be the ZTE Skate Acqua: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3403&c=zte_skate_acqua or something very close to it (looks like that V889D has dual sim support, but official Skate Acqua shouldn't have it).

Thanks Quantum !
Few things were total new. Like bluetooth file transfer capability, I thought it's only Blade that is having limited bluetooth profile.
Also can you add a question about swap. I know only poor (256MB RAM) fellows like myself are going to benefit. No issues for me for one plus week of usage without a reboot.

*************NOT OPTIONAL!*****************
********Backing UP Working u8800-51********
****VERY IMPORTANT! Do in case of FAIL!****
Code:
Make a disk img recovery Using "Roadkil's Disk Image" (and Pink screen)
The procedure is easy and you just take about 8 minutes..
Instructions:
0.a Back up IMEI using ToolBox5irom
0.b Download the tool "Roadkil's Disk Image"
1.a Hold both ends of the volume rocker (Vol+ and Vol- at the same time) and press the power button.
1.b Connect your phone to PC using USB
2.a Run "Roadkil's Disk Image" (from step 0.a)
2.b Click on the "Store Image" tab.
2.c In "Store Image to" click the combobox and choose "Physical Disk #" ("#" is a number) * If there are more than one "Physical Disk #", then you have to choose the one that is about 3.6gb.. This part is very important.. if you restore a backup from another disk, it will leave your phone unusable.
** To be sure that that Physical Disk you choose is the Huawei u8800-51, You can run the tool again (because it has to refresh) without the phone connected, then check which disks are available. Then, close the tool again, connect the device (in pink screen), run the tool, and check what physical disk was added. But it will be about 3.6gb.
2.d In "target file", save the file as "u8800-51.img" in a folder with more than 4gb of storage available.
** There is no risk for you, as it is just copying data, not writing. **
** The risk is when restoring a backup if you backed up the wrong Disk... **
** If you compress the "u8800-51.img" file into a "rar" file, the size will be about 700 mb, then put it in a safe place. (Like DropBox, and/or multiple hard drives, etc.) **
UPDATE:
I have used this method to restore my phone 3 times without problems, but I'm win7 so I had to use the win7 fix outlined above.
Stock Froyo to Custom GB
Code:
Instructions:
0.a Back up IMEI using ToolBox5irom
0.b Make a disk img recovery Using DiskImage (and Pink screen)
0.c Boot into recovery (Vol+ & Power) and do a factory restore.
1.a Download "U8800-51 a Gingerbread.rar"
1.b Extract the Archive.
2.a Transfer the "dload" folder to the root of your sdcard
2.b Turn the phone off completely
2.c Hold both ends of the volume rocker (Vol+ and Vol- at the same time) and press the power button. (As though going into Pink Screen) Installation will start.
3.a After the phone finished installing and boots into Android choose the language.

***************OPTIONAL!*******************
*********Reverting to Stock Froyo**********
***ONLY DO THIS IF YOU MESS SOMETHING UP***
Code:
** This will not work on Entel users in Chile as it is a locked restore (it is for at&t users only)- **
100% of the time, You should always backup anything you change. Especially if you don't know what the change will do.
This instructional will help you recover from screwing up your phone (assuming you didn't make a backup image before messing with it.)
Instructions:
0.a Download "DiskImage_1_6_WinAll_Setup.exe"
0.b Use "LockDismount0300.zip" in case of WIN7 problems (see bottom of document)
0.c Download "U8800-51.rar" (about 400mb but its compressed, its really 3.9gb)
0.d Extract "u8800-51.img" from "U8800-51.rar" (Fail to do this and brick your phone)
1.a Open the tool "Roadkil's Disk Image" (from step 0.a)
1.b Hold both ends of the volume rocker (Vol+ and Vol- at the same time) and press the power button. (This puts you in Pink Screen)
1.c Connect to PC using USB.
2.a Run "Roadkil's Disk Image" (from step 0.a)
2.b Click on the "Write Image" tab.
2.c In "Write Image to" click the combobox and choose "Physical Disk #" ("#" is a number)
** If there are more than one "Physical Disk #", then you have to choose the one that is about 3.6gb. **
** This part is very important.. **
** If you use a backup from another disk, it will leave your phone unusable. **
** To be sure that that Physical Disk you choose is the Huawei u8800-51, You can run the tool again (because it has to refresh) without the phone connected, then check which disks are available. **
** Then, close the tool again, connect the device (in pink screen), run the tool, and check what physical disk was added. But it will be about 3.6gb. **
3.a In "source file", choose the file "u8800-51.img" that you Extracted from u8800-51.rar (in step 0.d) (remember it is about 3.9gb and extension is ".img")
3.4 Press Write Image.
3.5 After it is 100% ready, disconnect and do a factory reset and you will have 3g working.
** If you were smart enough to have backed up your IMEI at some point, you can install "ToolBox5iromV1.0.4.2.apk" and restore it at this point. **
** If you were smart enough to have backed up your phone prior to messing it up, you can replace any use of "u8800-51.img" in this instructional with your backup image. **
** I already went through one phone because I wasn't smart enough to do backups. Learn frommy mistakes. **
** This will not work on Entel users in Chile as it is a locked restore (it is for at&t users only)- **
*** FOR THE USERS ON WIN7 HAVING TROUBLE WITH "Roadkil's Disk Image" ERROR ***

4.b Run LockDismount (Run compatibility XP3)
4.c Select the necessary 3.69 drive described above (check multiple times to ensure you're selecting the right drive, for me it was Physical Drive 1)

I backed up my Phone (Roadkil's DiskImage)
I installed GB (data didn't work after everything, so i said screw it and: )
Installed Updated GB. (After that my GF called and I couldn't install ICS right away, but phone and data was working.)
Going to install ICS now.
BTW Wifi was working too.
...And just finished. Everything seems to be working now.

interf sist error
Hello, :good:
thanks for the guide and roms from our device.
I installed the rom ICS on my u8800-51 from Brasil, but when I change the language to Portuguese the app "Interf sist" closes. Run ok only in English. Exists any correction for this problem?

I am sorry. I don't know much about anything non-english. I am just a typical english-only American. (Much to my chagrin.) I only gathered up guides others had made an put them together. You may have better luck asking in the forum specific to the Android version you installed up to. I can only share my own experience.
