I have an Arc s using the 3 branded 4.0.4 (4.1.L.0.8) firmware and have wanted to root and unlock the boot loader for ages. The problem is that I don't know the best method of unlocking the boot loader and root the phone. Was wondering if someone could send me in the right direction or give me a good tutorial on how to go from the very basic no root stock firmware to having the phone rooted with the boot loader unlocked would be great if someone if able to help me.

Now that's out of the way, read the stickys, although you seem to have new F.W so it might be rootable using the existing methods or you may need to wait until someone figures out how to root it. Bootloader unlocking is the same regardless of firmware.

I have (nearly) the same phone, also on 3 (rant to follow!). In short, your bootloader cannot be unlocked without paying someone to do it for you (around £15). You can still use custom roms (via CWM recovery) without an unlocked bootloader, so IMHO not really worth it. I was waiting for a former member of XDA to unlock my phone for around a week (we weren't free at the same times, etc) and in the end didn't bother.
There may be other ways, but personally I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683189, but for ease of use, the toolkit from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038. Bascially, you need to flash the 4.0.3 kernel using flashtool, use DooMLoRD's kit to root the device, then flash the 4.0.4 kernel back again. After that, you can get CWM recovery from the market, and use that with any rom suitable for locked bootloaders.
BTW, 3 are absolutely the WORST network in the UK, just got off the phone arguing with them about them cutting all 2G services (i now realise why my reception has been so bad for the past 6 months!) while also raising the price of my packages, all without warning.

I have 3 also in Sweden, but Alejanrissimo (a guy in the forum) unlocked the bootloader for me remotely and now it is very good. I can flash ROM, kernel, get easy root etc.
I payed 19 US dollars over PayPal and after 10 minutes (with some paper clip operation stuff) my phone was unlocked, even the SIM was unlocked too. :good:
I can still use PCC and SEUS and the TrackID is also still there.
I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE CAUSED BY THE INFORMATION POSTED HERE. THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL.
First of all , i know there is a thread about removing the Unlocked bootloader logo. This thread is started just to present some information based on my personal experience.
I owe a Motorola Razr I with unlocked bootloader .......
A couple of weeks ago i decided to come back to ICS from the JB fastboot i was using(orange UK). Instead of using fastboot files made by mattlgroff I decided to fully flash the original ICS firmware for my phone using RSDlite. After the firmware was flashed i pushed the signed logo to the device.Of course the phone didn't finish booting and got stuck in bootloop. My phone became then a brick with a black screen and green led and i had to use the files from here to unbrick my phone. Big thanks to U1138 for finding the solution for unbricking.
When my phone phone finally booted i was so excited i didn't realize the ugly Bootloader unlocked logo is gone. I realized that yesterday while restarting the device and thought it's good to share it with everyone else and maybe will find a way for everyone to get rid of the ugly message on the boot screen.

So you suggest going back to ICS, bricking your device, unbricking it and flashing JB again in order to get rid of the bootloader logo?

I'm not suggesting anything. Only if you know what you are doing you can try it and even then take extra caution. It might be just a particular case.

here's a short video to proof the unlocked bootloader message is gone
I am not a hundred perent sure of that, but I think this worked on your device because you unlocked your bootloader while on ICS then, upgraded to JB using matt's fastboot.
For someone who upgraded to JB using the OTA and only then unlocked their bootloader, this won't work because the motoboot file version is already the highest (homemade fastboot does not flash motoboot, that's why you were able to flash after a downgrade)

Anyone can confirm that intentionally bricking the phone by downgrading to ICS and reviving it deletes the unlocked sign?

Could you be a bit more precise?
What do you mean with normal, no unlocked bootloader message left?
And what do you mean with restored?

i unlocked my bootloader on ics telcel then went to 320002e.u. and did an update to 40002e.u.and my sing of unlocked bootloader disappear. but i hate is reading the warning message of unlocked bootloader in jelly bean how can i eraseed that.

Yes, its for unlocking the bootloaders for the Snapdragon Motorolas (Atrix HD, RAZR HD and RAZR M) but after unlocking their bootloaders the same message appears (the same that we have), @tucstwo has provided a file to remove the unlocked message for these phones, I don't know if that zip could be compatible with the RAZR i, but giving the fact that the zip file removes the unlocked message for these phones ALREADY RUNNING JELLY BEAN, maybe someone can give a try and see what happens...
Link of the zip file is on the 2nd post.
don't work...
LOL try some king of custom upgrade we known that we have some chance of brick our phone and we get this risk like a bet with more chance to win, but intencionally brick the phone that cost here in brazil more than $500 we have to be a great crazy.

yes. you can unlock it with a simple phrase in fastboot.. "fastboot oem unlock", and you can lock the bootloader in fastboot too using.. "fastboot oem lock". there are apps that lock the bootloader too. you can also flash the stock img via fastboot.

this isnt because of lg, its because of google, its one thing that makes every nexus great, the option to easily unlock(and lock) the bootloaders. if its unlocked, when booting up, on the google splash screen, youll see a unlocked padlock on the bottom of the screen, and the bootloader will say unlocked. if there is a hardware issue, google will also except rooted/unlocked bootloader phones for exchange/repair. but thats if its bought through the play store
if you go back to the factory img, and keep the bootloader locked, they will not know.

no, the other stores would have their own policies. and probably be more strict than google itself..
about best roms/kernel, you really have to try them out. everyone has differing needs, and every device will react differently to them, especially kernels. try out a bunch, thats the only way that you will find your perfect setup. i use the rasbean rom with the trinity kernel, for me its a perfect combo. but, the developer of rasbean is a close friend, and im the only tester(before release) of the trinity kernel. and i dont want to blind you with my setup only, as there are many good roms/kernels here.
about battery life.. its your signal, your setup, and how you use the device that mostly decides your battery life. dont enable anything if youre not going to use it(i dont use to many notifications, since i dont have the need. id rather check myself). and there is a good app called greenify that i recommend, itll help with controlling badly behaving apps, they too can lower your battery life.

If your bootloader is locked, you can't.

All known methods of unlocking the bootloader were closed off a few updates ago, while we were still on Jellybean. Best of luck with finding one now; unless you (or someone else) succeed, you're permanently on KitKat.

Considering that you have to ask, it's probably locked. If you really want to check, power on the phone while holding both volume buttons.
The know-how for softmodding a game console isn't going to help much with unlocking or modifying Android devices; they're very different beasts.
Okay, i am making this thread so people can find the answer for their questions here, some of these are the questions i was wondering too, but mostly these questions are what i think most people are wondering. And as always i want the answer to be heard from many people, so i really can be sure and know all about it!
ROMS..............
So, anyone got any idea when custom roms like cyanogen get compatibility for xperia z5 premium? how long does it usually take? and how do i get my current stock rom on my pc so i can customise it myself, and not die in waiting for cyanogen ? When the first cyanogen comes, it will be laggy, as everyone knows... Is it worth flashing? Can flashing ROMs break my phone, even when done right? Are they too risky for my brand new flagship beast?
ROOT..............
When do EASY one click rooting apps like kingroot, kingoroot and iroot work with the z5 premium? Does the "dirty" unlocked bootloader root made by androplus for xperia z5p work for the latest software update? When will the legendary locked bootloader root come?
BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED......
Okay this is what i can answer on!
Will the camera quality go really bad?
NO, it won't. Only in low light it will be terrible, only in low light! It is EXACTLY (for me) the same as locked bootloader on normal lightning. YOU CAN BARELY SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!
is the boot loader worth unlocking??
This is a hard one. Its different for everybody, someone LIKE ME thinks its worth it, some others think its not. (tell your opinions pls)
FOR ME IT IS. As with unlocked bootloader you will be getting root before the locked boys.
What does change?
For me, nothing really. No experience has changed for me, but everyone uses it differently!
Okey so thats it for now its sunday night soon, post your questions down below, ill answer IF I CAN xd. if i don't know the answer, other people will answer it (HOPEFULLY) please ask and comment below! Thank you guys!
And by the way, will there EVER be a android 4.x rom that works on z5p?
Android 4.x ? Are you kidding me? Nooooo of course there wont be...
Unlocked bootloader exists and so does root. We dont have locked Bootloader root yet.
Cyangenmod? Wont be for while I think.
Id just be happy you have a good device, unlock the bootloader and root.
