Good evening everyone,
I tried several Android Roms (2.3.7, 4.x) in the last days and I always had problems with "phantom presses" on the touchscreen. Every 5 seconds (even if I don't touch the phone) there is one of these phantom presses in the middle of the screen... makes Android unusable.
So I installed the original Windows Mobile 6.5 rom again - the device works without any problems. So I think its not a hardware problem.
I even installed Windows Phone 7 on my HD2 and had the same problems as with Android (phantom presses in the middle of the screen).
Strange thing is: When I choose another driver in Windows Phone 7 (CotullaTouch.dll instead of kmdtouch.dll), I don't have any of these annoying phantom presses.
My question is: Is there a way to select another driver for the touchscreen in android too? Or does anyone have another hint for me how to fix this in Android?
I would appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

How are you confirming something is touching the screen? I would suggest using Dev Tools, Pointer Location, and seeing if it says there is a touch on the screen. Most touchscreen errors are caused by the "End key" pressing down on the digitizer ribbons making the device register a touch. Before i remapped my buttons, when i would push the end key sometimes it would drag down my notification bar.

Hi, yes I know the "End key" issue. But when the phone lies on a table and I don't touch it (and I didn't press any of the keys under the screen before), my phone starts the applikation in the middle of the screen. I also started a paint-app once to check the touchscreen and unfortunately my phone draw something in the middle of the screen for me.
Like I said I don't have this problem with the original Windows Mobile 6.5 and I also don't have it with the "old" touchscreen-driver in Windows Phone 7. So I think it's definitely caused by the touchscreen-driver. Is there a way to make the touchscreen-driver less sensitive?

But youre the only person experiencing this issue. (As far as ive seen) so its gotta be something youre doing. The only way i see it being a driver issue is if your phone is like ancient compared to others and you somehow got an older graphics processor then the majority of devices out there.. Have you tried an android version booted from your memory card? Also try different kernels. Its a little hard to diagnose something like this without seeing the actual sympoms. so bear with me xP

Do you guys also have problems about when typing in a keyboard that 40% of the time it misses the touch point or pushing the wrong letter even thou you didnt pressed that letter?.. it always happening to me, i just tested this on CM7 and CM6.2..
When i tap "M" sometimes it taps the letter "B", sometimes when i tap the "Backspace" it sometimes presses the button around it like "M" or "L"..
Is this a hardware failure? or a kernel/driver/software for android that is failing?..
One more thing, if i hold an icon on the homescreen to allowing moving it, it sometimes dances around my finger..
I've had similar behaviour when one or more fingers almost touched the screen while holding it. Lay your phone on a table and check if it happens then too.
I think it's still the same, because will i'm testing it, im continously pressing the the letter "M" til it miss, then suddenly it misses everytime i press "M" i suddenly put the fone on the table while continueing to tap "M", still it misses.. my gosh, i hope its not a hardware failure..
anybody?
up anyone?...
Mine did that right before the touchscreen started to die. Check on it.
how sad, i think my warranty is over.. how much will i cost if i will get this to repair?..
I have the exact same issue.

If I put Windows Mobile 6 back on the phone, the screen is back to its very accurate state. Android on SDcard works fine too. It's only when I try to use NAND / MAGLDR. Could you try flashing back Windows and testing it? And test an SD build as well?

I just bought this device second hand, dont know the record of this thing if it has really an issue when i bought..
i remember when i got this device to the 1st owner, its in windows mobile 6.5, i tried it from morning to night, i even txted a lot when it is still in 6.5, and i dont remember getting frustrated because of inacuracy.. it just started when i flashed the NAND ROM the night i bought it..
will try to revert back to WM6.5 and Android SD after work..
@FreakyFerret
according to one of the member in the thread you gave, his problem about accuracy has gone because of the kernel he used..
Did you used it? did it solve to you?, or do you have any other motheds that worked for you..
I didn't see anyone fixing the issue by trying a new kernel. But I've used a few different builds with different kernels, and it persists. I'll check the thread again later.
Well just recently my HD2 started doing this weird thing. If I wake up the screen with the red end key (I have a T-Mobile HD2), sometimes the screen won't respond. However, if I wake it up with any of the other keys, it wakes up perfectly fine and screen responds normally. In addition to that, the screen just becomes unresponsive after pressing down the end key to bring up the Power Menu so I can't even shut it down or anything without an external app. This issue happens on both Android and WinMo 6.5. It seems to be something tied to the end key but I have no idea. It all started after I installed WP7 to try it out, but I did a Task29 afterwards and it still happens.
Unfortunately it sounds like you are starting to experience a very common hardware problem with the HD2. I myself am wondering if I am seeing the first sign of this problem cause it is getting hard top get my HD2 to turn on when I get up every morning. The HD2 has as I said very common issues with the external end hardware key going bad and the HD2 has a common issue with the digitizer going bad causing the touch part of the screen to stop working. I have read many threads on just this topic. As much as I love my HD2 I do recognize this flaw in it.
Hello:
I read several post, on this forum and in others about the touch screen problem on the HD2. In all forums explain the solution to send the device to repair, and explain a problem with the power button and the touch cord.
I explain my findings and facts:
1. I flash the device with a WP7 ROM (I try several versions).
2. The touch screen works well, and I can setup the device.
3. I power off the device, or wait until locks.
4. At this time, the touch screen don’t works, and I can’t unlock the device.
5. With the camera button (green) I can unlock the device, and with the Windows or Back key, I can go to the main menu.
6. I try to press hard/several times/in the side/press soft… the red button, remove the battery, hard reset, etc…, but nothing works.
7. I flash the device, another time, and… THE TOUCH SCREEN WORKS!!! , until the device is locked.
For this reason, I think this is a driver problem, not a hardware problem. This isn’t means there’s some, or a lot of devices, with a hardware problem.
If someone can check this procedure, we can confirm there isn’t a hardware error.
Thanks for your time!

the reason its likely to be hardware is because most folk on here do not have this issue, if it were a driver issue then we'd all be likely having the problem, unless your in an unfortunate position of have a different hardware revision to the rest of us. Just because something is intermitant doesnt mean its not hardware.
another test would be to go back to WM6 and see what happens there, there is a chance that your hardware is just a bit different to ours which might be the reason WP doesnt like it but WM works...

+1, I agree with you, is time to replace touch screen. Try WM6.5, Andoid rom nand or sd and finally WP7.5 rom.

This is a marriage or a defect of the device => replace touch screen.
Thanks to all for your responses.
I thing you are right , and I need a new touch screen, the response is erratic.
Now it didn't works with any rom, included the original.
Thanks for your time!
In my case, with WP7 make this, but now with wm6.5 rom work well.
Try flash another!
WP7 - Not working touch screen
Android ICS - Not working touch screen
WM6.5 - WWE rom working touch screen
How odd! Personally I'd consider getting it changed, might be on its last legs, also, make sure you squash the bottom right corner around the power button, its well documented that the cables are behind this location, the glue holding it together separates and can allow the cable to come lose, you can usually tell its coming apart when there isn't much of a power button to push

i Solve this problem with a hard presure in power button.
Now is working good!
you can use a hammer too ^^
but it's a bit more radical !!
good new for your device (and for you too of course)

The problem with the slide (left-right), ie. I can not to unlock my display. Since a few days ago I can not move the slide, i I have to turn off the phone (to remove battery), I worked reset, modified wallpeper and screen saver but nothing. Now I hold on my calculator, or some other program and it is only solution that I can to use my phone. Otherwise, touch screen works normally on all parts of dislpay. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
Weird...

Are you sure your touchscreen works normally on all its surface and only unlock slide is a problem?
It seems very odd, never heard something similar...
Yes,it's wierd.. Maybe you could describe the problem better when it doesn't work etc. it could be some touch drivers problem

I used to have similar problems . Have you updated to the latest rom from HTC. It can be downloaded from their website. ( be sure to back up all your personal stuff first of course)
Good luck
Yes I know that seems very odd, but it is, my touchscreen works normally on all its surface and only unlock slide is a problem. ''Touch drivers", how and where I can to find drivers? Last night I looked different solutions, similar problems on many forums but without success. I found and installed little program 'xda shutdown' and it is work.....with that program I turn phone to sleep.....when I need to use phone again I push button 'home' on the phone, and slide works normally (no button shutdown, because in that case I cann't to move slide left or right). I forgot to mention, I have Windows 6,5, rom 3.14.479.2 (04666)WWE (I think that is last officially rom), radio 2.15..50.14. I hope that I now gave you more informations. Thanks in advance.
sounds like a common hardware problem of the HD2. the power/end call button is one of the most used buttons and has been known to cause pressure on the touch screen+connectors underneath, which can eventually damage the touchscreen.
you are now using a way to turn off the screen that doesn't involve the power/end call button. also, you are now using a way to wake the device using a button other than the power/end call button. funny thing is, this is exactly what is suggested (as a workaround or troubleshooting step) in almost all of the many many threads that talk about the problem mentioned in the first paragraph!
search some more and most common permanent solution suggested is to have it repaired!
Thank you ASCIIker, do you think that this is now a only solution, there is no way to get things back as before?
hello people, I lve had my nexus 4 for a while now, never experienced any problems with it on 4.3 neither with 4.4.2, just the overheath thing when browsing websites and such, but recently ive been getting this unresponsive touch in the middle that's not letting me send messages or organize the apps on my main page, I'll explain a little below.
When I slide my finger from top to bottom, just in the middle of the screen my touch seem to go slower and then it like makes a jump and won't recognize the touch in one part, that happens all along the middle of the screen is not just a blind spot, when I write a message and try to send it with the keyboard open, it won't let me touch the "send" bottom I have to minimize the keyboard to be able to send it because the bottom is just in the area where my touchscreen is not working correctly.
I downloaded multi touch tester to verify my touches and I found out that if I make a touch in the middle where I have my issue, the multi touch is recognizing 2 touches at the same time, I'll upload the picture to show how is it recognizing my touches in that specific area.
I'm actually using stock nexus 4 with stock KitKat 4.4.2, I haven't root or anything ever, is the first time I have issues with this phone in the touchscreen, I've also been experiencing some touchscreen freeze where I can't touch anything because it won't work and I have to lock screen and unlock it again for it to start working again.
what I have already done?
I have restart my.phone a couple of time and won't work
i have factory reset it and won't work
I have full charge it with USB and laptop and won't work
and that's about it, I'm sure is a software issues because my phone hasn't drop or anything it just started random and sometimes the phone start to work correctly with no issues but most of the time its not working properly and is frustrating.
PD: sorry for my bad English, not native speaker.
well is not letting me post pictures cus I'm new.

I am facing the same problem. You got any fix for this? Please help....
If you've already did a factory reset I doubt it's a software issue. However you can use one of the guides here explaining how to flash a clean stock factory image. This is the last solution that will eliminate any software sided failure.

I am also facing the exact same problem for the past two days, My phone is in perfect condition, not dropped or anything like that.
I think I did some google play updates which where pending for long time.... Do not know what is causing this.
Anyway have started to uninstall the app updates manually, lets see.
A flashing will rule out all software issues. Check whether the touchscreen is working. Enable developer options, then select "Show pointer touches" and the other one just below it (too lazy to check up and tell you what it is; pardon me )
If you're getting normal touch response over the entire screen, then you're facing a software issue. Anything else implies a hardware issue; this may or may not fix itself (somehow; gremlins.)
In either case, let us know what happens. Cheers!

Say goodbye to that display. I have to get my display replaced too (clumsy fingers grumblegrumble) and the LG guys say the display unit costs 3750 rupees to replace... Get it done ASAP.
Greetings!
If it is a software issue try re-flashing the stock factory image might as well work
