Problem:S-Wont go off
have tried long way of root and diffrent scrips but no matter what i cant / get S-off
Details: Permanently Rooted,
Clockwork Recovery
MikShifted-G v2.1
Bootloader locked
How are you rooted with MikShift if you don't have S-Off?
---------- Post added at 02:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:06 PM ----------
Do you have root? Does it say S-ON when you reboot to bootloader?
Sounds like you have temp root not full root. You need to downgrade to Froyo (Android 2.2) before you can root the Shift.

What version of Android are you on? 2.3.3 ? 2.3.4 ?
problem solved nevermind
use misc.img&PG06100.zip(from 2.2 ruu) to downgrade to android 2.2
then you can get eng s-off

will updating OTA from a rooted phone will unroot my phone automatically ?if yes will it delete everything ?
now i have stock 2.1 update 1 and root
If flashing v2.2 RUU will unroot your phone.
Be aware that 2.2 can not be rooted, so this will be a one way ticket. Ofcorse unrevoked is working to root 2.2 also.

Why you want to unroot buddy?
> I think you can unroot by installing official ROM by using Goldcard method or u may try RUU also but i dont think so that'll work
if you install a ruu, it'll revert to original s-on, because alpharev makes a fake hboot and s-off
hi,
Received my desire z today. And planning to root it. I am coming from wildfire so this is a little different.
My phone is not locked to any carrier. I can use any sim card in it.
my firmware version is : 1.34.720.6
S-ON
Hboot is 0.85.0005
These questions are haunting me:
1.Do i need to do a S-Off to be able to flash custom roms? or is my hboot good enough to install custom roms with just root and S-On.
2.will i have any problems without soff and only root? like flashing radios or kernals?
I am assuming i dont need a sim unlock because its unbranded anyways. correct me if i am wrong. but gfree does sim unlock along with s-off.
I tried searching but dint get any results. please help. Thanks.
The only answer I know is you won't be able to flash anything through the bootloader. That means if you want to flash a radio or any other PC10IMG.zip, you have to find a recovery-flashable version and flash it through your recovery (the unsafe way). Kernels are normally flashed through recovery so that is not an issue.

Oh yeah. i understand that. perhaps i dint frame my question right.
I am going to install a custom recovery. say Clockwork.
But is root + custom recovery is good enough to flash roms and kernels etc or is S-Off compulsory?
1. You need S-OFF to be able to flash custom roms, or clockworkmod recovery.
2. With S-ON (I think) you will be able to flash new radios, but considering that you will not be able to flash clockworkmod recovery you will not be able to flash custom kernels.
Considering that you can use any SIM card you don't need SIM unlock, but if you want custom roms, and kernels you will need S-OFF and clockworkmod recovery
To gain s-off you have this tool, but I have never used it, I gain S-ff downgrading from 1.72 to 1.34 using this tutorial , but you already have version 1.34 so you have to start from step 13.
Thanks. I had one more question. Is hboot 0.85.0005 rootable? Can I just follow the guide you provided?

Yes it is, you can follow the guide starting from step 13, the steps from 1 to 12 are used to downgrade the software to the version 1.34 witch you already have.
Or try to use AMT i think it is easier.
Thanks buddy. Rooted!

in settings it says it has a secure boot status type:samsung
and i used the motochopper method...the loki'd one after for att and casual
That's just the Samsung Knox security software causing that. Use chainfire's cf-auto root method

any luck with figuring out how to downgrade?
Should i upgrade to 5.1.1 or stay at 4.2.2? I am not rooted yet cause we don't have a custom recovery so just wanted some opinions. Thanks

If your on 4.2.2 then stay on it. Btw you can root and have a custom recovery on sm-g530. The bootloader is locked on 5.1.1 which definitely decreases the chance for custom recovery.
G530az is what I have the root method for the g530 I'm not sure will work. At least no one has said it will

I have not seen any evidence that the bootloader is unlocked on the kitkat firmware for the G530AZ as I have not seen any custom rom or recovery for it either I am currently on 5.1.1 but I would like to see what your talking about on the kitkat firmware where would one find custom recovery and such for this variant on kitkat?

On my old s4 and s5 knox came preloaded but i can't find the knox apk on my grand prime. I'm not a newb when it comes to this but i have seen maybe 2 people say they have root without using kingroot and I'm not doing that. I guess I'll wait till we get a revovery. If I could find the source code I could compile a rom but i have never even tried a recovery. I guess I just want the easy way out.

In the above post I'm saying that I don't see a trace of knox on 4.2.2 that's why I'm wondering if I should take the update
Well their is a recovery already for 5.1.1 but it fails the security checks that are in place unfortunately so its dead in the water for this variant unless someone that is uber dev can figure out how the heck to unlock it lol.

Ahh i see, well if its like 5.1.1 at all knox is there but you cant really access it, I have been messing around with some of the sql databases and have found some things of interest and also they lead me to believe that their is some kind of variation of knox installed but, you can use triangle away from the app store to fool odin mode and the device into believing your running stock however when you try to do update from the update settings in the device it catches it there, but still nothing changes on the reboot splash screen etc. oddly enough.
Yeah that's not me. I don't know how different building a recovery is from a kernel or rom but as I said I have never even tried.

I guess we just keep waiting. I just want root for the ram partition and link 2 sd. Wouldn't mind a custom rom but.....
Ya we have root on 5.1.1 also although it's not ideal but using kingroot does get it done then you can use supersume app to remove that junk and replace with supersu.

I just downgraded from 5.1.1 QEZ to 5.1.1 OJ4 and looking to see how far it will allow me to go before running into some road block.
