[Q] defy + cant download apps, reset, or root - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, so i tried to root and mod my defy +. I was able to root it but when I tried to get the mod on it got messed up. so I had to flash the stock sbf in and stuff. I'm not sure what happened but now I cant root it, and when I try to download apps it tells me there isn't enough space but I have plenty of memory left. Also I cant factory reset the phone. At this point I'm not sure what to do. Is there still a way to get a custom mod on the phone?
Please help, Thanks

You need to do a data wipe. Press vol- and power. You will get an exclamation mark and android. It is the stock recovery. Next press both vol+ and vol- together. You will enter custom recovery. Do a data wipe from there.. That should help..
You are not able to root probably because you flashed the BL7 latest SBF!! Go to setting about phone.. Does the version ends with .2310 or .231 >? If yes then it is still unrootable and if its a diff version then data wipe should renable root capability..

[Q] Cant upgrade to 2.3

I have a rooted Droid 2. It is trying to to the update to 2.3. it does the update and then reboots. During the reboot it fails with a "The software update failed!" message then finish's booting. The phone still works, just can't do the upgrade. I should say that after I rooted the phone that I deleted some of the blot software without doing a backup. Is there any way to fix this? I was thinking about downloading the 2.3 sbf and then loading it. Will that work and if so where can I get it and how do I load it. Remember I am a DFU when it comes to these phones and Unix so I will need a little more detail on how to recover with a new sbf.
Thanks

You can't update unless all the original software is on the phone. You can either put the software back or go into recovery and wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset.
so if rooted and bloatware is still present you can upgrade?

Going into clockwork through Koush's Bootstrap (must be rooted) or stock recovery. Turn phone off then while phones off:
Hold Power+ Home Key + "X"
Then press magnifying glass on KB
Where do I get the KB and how doI install it?

KB = Keyboard. All D2 users have one
Wait, 2.3 has been officially released to the D2? I can't find it when I check for updates.

Ok, I got you. The Koush method is not required, just an option. So I will just:
"Stock recovery. Turn phone off then while phones off Hold Power+ Home Key + "X"
Then press magnifying glass on KB".
If I perform a Titanium backup of my phone before I this then after the recovery and update will Titanium restore me back to 2.2 or should I just use Titanium to recover my apps?
Once you update you can't go back to 2.2

This is only for the 2.3.2 VZW update (from 2.2.0) not android version 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
That's the mistake I made with the update. I thought I had Gingerbread on my Droid2 before everyone else.
The OP can restore the bloatware apps by finding the APKs and using Root Explorer to put them in the /system/app folder.
Where can I find the APK files?
I finally got it fixed. I ended up reloading the 2.2 sbf. I followed the instructions posted by Darkonion at this link.

[HELP] Root Problem

Hi,
I rooted my Nexus S but somewhere around got lost and panic. So don't have any backup. Will try to explain everything in order to see if anyone can help me.
Followed this h**p://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/ guide and did everything. was going well. But after the bootroot step things got messy. Now I can only enter recovery mode, and even upload ROM's. But none of the Back, Search or Home key on the phone work. Even tried to install Stock Google 2.3.3 but it doesn't install at all. Anyone can say if it was the Bootrood and how I can revert. Or is my Nexus S bricked...
Thanks and sorry for the bad english.
R.
For hacking Nexus S, I would suggest doing it from the Android Development forums for Nexus S rather than a website. And Recovery, you aren't supposed to be using Back, Search, Home key.. its the volume buttons and power button.
What Recovery are you using? Clockwork or Stock?
using clockwork. the buttons don't work after. when i install any rom. after. and the stock roms just don't install.
Bootloaderversion - I9020XXkA3
Baseband Version - I9020XXKB3

what are the steps you are using to flash a ROM? just asking to see if you're doing it properly. list what ROM, and Clockwork 3.0.0.5 correct?
Tried already CyanogenMod7 Nightly #12, Axura-1110-NSE, GingerS-ROM-v0.7-signed and the GRI40 2.3.3 (stock).
Yes, my ClockworkMod is v3.0.0.5.
I manage to install the rom's, but the problem is after. Looks like the screen isn't calibrated. And none of the Home,Search,Back and Options 'keys' work. Just power, and the volume. but if the phone enters in standby mode I can't get him back. Any way to just put it like factory again. In other words, is it possible to 'Unroot' or just get the stock working?

Screen not being calliberated is a 2.3.3 problem with yellowish tint. To fix this you need a kernel supporting Voodoo Color. And yes, download a nandriod backup and restore it. You can find the backups on the Dev forum.
already wiped everything from the phone.
the problem is that none of the keys after work.

Wiped Dalvik / Cache / Data? Try downloading a nandroid backup from the dev forums then Nandroid Restore, and for a LAST RESORT. you can try Odin but I never used it for the NS.
If not then, you seriously messed up your phone by doing improper instructions on that website (or. the website did it wrong)

nandroid restore: download one.. put it in clockworkmod/backup
then go into backup/restore in recovery
dalvik wipe is in advanced in recovery

Never heard superoneclick of creating any such prob! Try wiping cache from stock recovery... Btw were you able to root?? There are few other options you may try if you were able to root. If not then try wiping cache and if that do not work, backup things(only SMS and contacts if not rooted) and do a data wipe!!

But if you use superonelick you don't need any boot menu!! I mean stock boot menu is always already there and custome recovery can be installed only after rooting!! Follow these steps to root:
1.) Enable development. (settings>applications)
2.) Enable install app from outside market(settings>applications)
3.)Install all moto drivers(Let me know if you don't have)
4.) Connect your phone to computer via USB. Keep it ON.
5.)Open superone clcik with admin right
6.) Clcik root!!!!
Now you should be root!
Mmm superoneclick do not could do that, i think is a other problem.
Make a backup with titanium and flash a SBF with rsd lite.
After all, try again root the phone, sure you are doing the correct procedure.

Thanks for replies, Problem solved. I just did Try wiping cache from stock recovery and hard reset.

Issue returning to stock.

Hello,
I was running CM10 on my Note 10.1 GT-N8013 and I wanted to revert back to stock, so I downloaded this file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847706&page=5 (post #41) and ran it in Odin and it passed.
Now, however, I am stuck on the "Samsung" logo at boot, it just keeps flashing blue (which I'm pretty sure is normal). I've let it sit for about ten minutes now.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

1.Install CWM through odin.
2. If still Stuck at boot, enter CWM (holding Volume up + power ).
3. Wipe Data, Cache & dalvick.
4. Reboot.
Should reboot normally.
You do not need to install CWN you can boot into stock recovery by pressing volume up and power button it will boot into stock recovery do a complete wipe please see QnA section I have already posted a topic for that.
Would be good if you post on the right sections and search first as it spams

But wiping through stock recovery will wipe all his internal memory, unlike CWM.
Even when you do a factory reset in CWM it will wipe your internal memory or may be I am wrong you can try CWM if you like first and then this

I hope you ran triangle away while rooted to set your flash counter back to 0... It seems to be the 1 thing most people skip when explaining how to get back to stock but what you need to know is if you return it to Samsung for warranty repairs it will be sent back to you unrepaired or you will need to pay $$$ as its warranty has now been voided...

Well, I guess I'll just have to re-root. At least now it won't be a massive pain in the ass, since I know what I'm doing this time. Thanks for the heads up.
Hi do i need to run triangle away if I install stock rom also ???
If you installed CWM then its a MUST to run triangleaway afterwards... Stock rom to Stock rom shouldn't raise the flash counter so no, you wouldn't need to run triangleaway...
thanks no i did not root or install CWM just did a stock to stock upgrade and then downgrade there is a way to find the flash counter can you tell me how to do it

Rooted stock rom? Then, yes, but follow the directions to check your status beforehand. Make sure your counts match.
No it was the stock German JB rom and then back to untouched ICS Indian rom.
When I boot into Odin mode I do not see any counter it just says official and some things like that

Sorry, can't help. I'm rooted stock US with CWM. I'm not sure that what I saw is what you'd see. Read the TriangleAway instructions. It will clarify.
It should say Official as that's what you have, an official stock rom... Above that there should be more info, if there is any numbers above 0 then you need to run triangle away....

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to restore if you can get into Download mode, unless either your USB port is messed up or the restore image is corrupted. Check the md5 of the stock restore image you're trying to use, and try a different cord and/or a different USB port on your computer.
Also make sure you're not trying to downgrade to BOD5 or earlier if your bootloader is BOE1 or above, because you can't downgrade.

Make sure you got installed buisy box and safe strap . Install recovery from ss , go to super su and update and make sure is granting the app . Now install NI2 SS flasher for lollipop and make sure super su grant access . Run NI2 and go in the ss. Full wipe then install whatever rom and whatever match firmware with no bootloader then reboot.

Try booting into stock recovery mode (hold home + vol UP + power), and clear cache from there and then reboot.
If that doesn't work, do the same thing but do "factory reset" from stock recovery.

In the safestrap , wipe and just flash the rom then the bok3 firmware ( your choice for rom and firmware , bok3 or pb1 ) . When is done and you see the SS home splash just reboot to download mode ( if not working do it manual ) and odin the og5 bootloader just in case https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347768483. Done , wait 5 minute , if not working reboot recovery manual and wipe data , factory reset and cache. Is this clear enough ?

A reset will resolve just about any issue caused by software. You might be looking at a hardware issue.
Install a system monitor app of some kind to see if any processes are really busy.
It's a long shot, but the only thing that comes to my mind is to remove the microSD card: if that resolves the issue, it means your processor is busy chewing on indexing all the media files on your microSD card and may be getting hung up on a corrupted file. If that does nothing, you might have bad RAM or something.

Yes, for being slow I'm pretty sure was the SD car as I removed it and it feels more smooth, do you know if there is a way to keep the SD in the phone?

First, try opening the SD card on your computer and searching for files of size "0 kb", (that's zero). If you see any media files that are zero kb, delete them. They are corrupted and are causing your phone's media indexing to get stuck in a loop. Symptoms of this issue are slow performance and the phone running hot from trying to process the file continuously. A battery-use examination or performance monitoring app will reveal "android media process" as the offender.
If this does not resolve the issue, you need to take more extensive action. First, copy everything on the SD card to your computer, then format the SD card using the phone, and then copy the data back to the freshly-formatted SD card. Then double-check it for files with a "0 kb" size.
If the problem persists, a last resort would be getting a new microSD card.
