Have you tried looking for a place that sells replacement back covers? These days you can find just about any replacement part. Personally, I think if you paint it, it will end up looking worse than it does now because you will need to sand down the area where it has dug into the plastic. Or is it metal?

m1l4droid said:
I don't think I can find that in Iran, and it's gonna cost a lot.
No, the entire body is made of Aluminum, except for the sdcard cover and the sides.

you can paint the whole back body with black paint and leaving a strip that goes through the acer logo.....
if you want to look it hot then use the combination of black and orange .... it looks hottt....
dont use glossy paint,it doesn't look so good cause I also have painted my mob with day
and there is another solution you can go to a car paint shop and there you can select which colour you want
believe me the car paint looks really cool ......

Have you thought about having a really dark cover over the tablet? I'm sure it can hide the bad scratch on the back.

m1l4droid said:
Great! Someone with experience! what's wrong with gloss black?
Actually, I need to take my car to the repair shop. I may just ask the repair guy there.
Orange and black seem interesting... maybe I can create a flame pattern on the back, right?
Click to collapse
gloss paint will make a reflection and
it doesn't look good I've tried that but it doesn't worth it.
so I switched back to the non glossy dark black with the neon strip and a decal on the back....
but alas! I lost my phone just after 5 days from painting......
now making design to paint. my new one. ..

m1l4droid said:
Damn! That's unlucky... okay so should I use another type of paint to get non-glossy or it's just determined by the number of clear coats?

bro there are many types of colors available in market specially in car paint shop you can ask your car guy for that
other solution is to go to a sticker designer shop
you can make you own sticker for whole back panel by just some photoshop work

m1l4droid said:
Great, I'm going to the car paint shop today... having my car fixed. I know the guy so I will ask him.
For back panel's sticker, I was thinking I can do an Android logo, on top of the Acer logo so it also can be saved.
Thank you mate, you have been a great help! I still have one question, can the same paint be used for the plastic parts of the back? I mean the sdcard cover etc..
Click to collapse
yeah you can use it on plastic ....
remember to cover unwanted painting area with a plastic cello tape....
dont use paper based or any fiber based tape because they suck all the paint and it will left a patch there and that looks ugly....

m1l4droid said:
Great progress! I talked to car paint guy, and he said he can do it for a reasonable price! I will sand the uneven parts now, detach the back cover, remove the buttons and cover it with masking tape and he's gonna take care of the rest. I'm still thinking about the Acer logo... Not sure to have it painted over, or cover it with something... like a circle, or as I said before an Android logo... I'm thinking about that...
Click to collapse
a circle or a cube is a great idea......
well regards to your painting
if you can give me a straight pic of back of your tab I'll try to photoshop it.......

m1l4droid said:
Thanks, I'll Photoshop it myself, if I decided to go with it but for now I think I'll have it painted over.

Ok...........

be sure that painter is not using any thick colour
otherwise it will make a fat layer on the panel
today I m also gonna paint my mobs back panel
my back panlel got an horrible 3 inch scratch
I'll paint it to original colour and I've printed the logo also....!
I m using the paint that is used in almirah painting

Now, I need some suggestions. Should I have the sd card cover painted over, or keep it grey? Still not sure about the Acer logo...

bro I have a idea see if acer logo is coming out easily by a needle
if not then please cover it with masking tape and remove excess tape by blade only cover acer logo then you can start painting..
and before sanding old paint see if. paint is going off easily by spirit or by the nailpaint remover
It will save a lot of time ..

UPDATE: Hmm.. I took a second look on your pictures, I wonder how do you tend to paint over the buttons? Or, probably you can live with the top two button being icon-less, but it wouldn't be that great if the bottom green/red phone buttons are all covered in paints. Gives a close shots on how you handle the buttons
That's really cool, man! I haven't seen anyone do anything like that to a Vario yet. Right on.
update
I am still not happy with the result. I couldnt wait for the paint to fully dry... So I allready put it together, and I think I damaged the paintjob now with my fingerprints....
but... Its allready better then before
Im going to redo it soon
The Pimpin' looks good but I am wondering what is on the pad below the phone..... I have been twisting my laptop around trying to get the best angle to see things, but to no avail..... your handwriting is not the best!!

Think you need to rub the whole phone down with wet and dry sandpaper, very very fine paper you can get from car repair shops. once that is done and its silky smooth, then apply the paint in thin layers, leave 20 minutes between each layer and do 3 or 4
Then leave for 24 hours and then apply a coat of clear laquer, again 3 to 4 coats with gaps of 20mins, that should leave it finished to the same standard as a car :>
Hmm.. you have seems seriously spoilt your paint job. I did a search, and it seems that sanding your paint with rough and then ultra fine paper may do the job. Take a look at this
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/09/27/Scratched_up_DS_Lite_Mod/
Or if you want, you can do a ultra mirror glossy one. There is a tutorial here, seems very difficult, especially Wizard's back un-even surface.
http://www.mnpctech.com/case-mod-paint-computer-pc-case-mod-how-to.html
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=89422
I wonder how much paint job it the cover can sustain. You don't want it to look like this
http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157594221854345/
i see you have modified the flash as i have posted few months ago haven't you? or yours is like this from the factory?
should have done a glossy black or glossy white instead. that would be sweeet!!! but good work thou even if its appear still rough.. admire your braveness..
On IMG_14884 it shows a very nice app where it shows the processor speed and I belive also shows temperature? well I want it :-D I got to have it :-D now... also my paint is coming off but I think I will take it appart and take it to a car coach work to get it respray it :-D... but I think i'll do it silver colour original because of the buttons...
Also it would look better if you would find and eletrick blue wall paper and I would also suggest you to get the windows live messanger installed there too :-D have you tried it? I can't live without it now ;-)
P.S.
Hum! Holand is my favorite country best people best culture
awesome im not the only one
i just recently painted my 8125. i did it because it was scratched and getting worse no matter how well i took care of it. for some reason the paint chips off constantly. my process was the following
i did not take my phone apart.
1.taped off the screen
2. taped off everything from the bottom of the top lid down.
3. sanded down the phone to a primer look on the top and a bronze look on the side. (i have come to realize if you dont sand you phone like i did not do the first time you will have yourself a flaking monster)
4. SAND THE PHONE IT WILL LOOK HORRIBLE BUT IT WONT FLAKE
5.painted using Krylon Fusion White Satin.
6.Dry for 24hrs
7.Clear coat
8. Dry for another 24 HRs
9 repeat the steps for the back lid and camera lid.
notes
i had to sand down the back lid which has that rubber thing that has been falling off my phone and it finally got lost.
using a exacto knife i could have left the buttons but i was too lazy to do it.if you decide not to take the phone apart like i did then dont go paint happy because you will see the thickness build up. remember one coat of paint and one or 2 light coats of clear seal will make it look authentic.
if you decide to paint your phone black, like i did the first time, for what ever reason its harder to see the screen in light places. but it looked way brighter in the night.
tips what would be cool is if i had plastic model car decals of some cool designs to apply after the white paint and then seal with the clear coat. i couldnt because there isnt a hobby store in town.
i wouldnt had done it had i not seen the casino royale movie where that chick has that white phone.
i will post pics as soon as my back lids are done drying
PATIENCE YOU NEED PATIENCE!!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!

I've been meaning to paint my k-jam for a while now but have never got around to it. I'm still unsure on exactly what type of paint to use. I don't want to use just normal spray paint, i want something that will make it look like i bought the device like that.
I was also thinking of trying out Alsa Corp's thermal color changing paint. http://alsacorp.com/products/eclipse/showcase/6-l.jpg http://alsacorp.com/products/eclipse/video/eclipse_sink.wmv
I think i'm gonna have to make a trip to a hobby shop and see if they can help me out to find the right type of paint.

SEX1 Back/battery cover solution

Hi everybody,
I´m still a student here in this uge high school of tecnology, i learned a lot and know for the firts time i think that i can contribute with something form my one, straight form Portugal.
Well as all the SEX1 (black) user´s I encounterd the back/battery cover problem! It´s scratch very easy... on the second day of use only by putting it in my jeans pocket it was already showing bit´s of aluminium... I had a lot os phones till now and with none something like that happend but also... and i never had one with a aluminium back (chique) ... and front cover so the 600€ maybe not all lost in the process...
Well i found on google a mate that polished his one almost to bronze... but i tougt to myself that it had exist a solution more simpler and i found one... simple and great...
Simply wipe the paint of with a normal soft steel woll swab, those that mom´s use to clean the grease from the pan´s, it doesn´t ruin the aluminium, it doesn´t scratch it, and the aluminium stays with that awsome shape... Really nice! Think almost better that the original black. Heard people saying that the will buy new ones form ebay... the problem will remain the same... they will scratch sone or later...
Cheers|

Looks nice man! I have the silver one, and man.. it looks awul..
I'm not understanding..
So you used the pads to basically sand down the aluminum, and then paint it over or something?

The pads take out the paint, without scratching the surface, and leave de foil naked, witout the black ou grey paint... for me it´s better than as in original
So basically, the entire cover is actually made with black aluminum, and that it's not silver with black painted over?
Edit: What I mean is, how is it that you're taking off the paint, but it's still black in those pictures?
Sorry, I'm just a bit confused.

Lol it´s silver as seen in the pic´s...
But it´s a dark silver...
I think the color on my monitor is off, but I see it clearly as a dark dark dark black
Anyway, it looks real good after what you did with it.

I was really scared to this, but it really worked! Thanks man!

looks great! I think I will try it myself. I never thougt it was that easy!! Thanks for the idea
Anyone else tested this? Thought I might try this with my silver cover, but don't know if the result will be as good as this?
Hi, good to know that people from where I live do think of some good things, after all... hehe.
I have a balck one too, bought it on ebay about 9 months ago, and it already came with some scratches on the battery cover.
I thought of buying a new one, but after seeing your post I'll try that instead.
Thanks again.

steel wool works too
I did not have brillo, so used a soft steelwool obtainable from any builders merchant/paint shop/hardware store and it works a charm.
Nice uniform dark metal finish, only a couple of shades lighter than the original (unscratched) black - imagine the surrounding metal of the front cover being a shade or two lighter - same finish, sheen and proffessional look!
Shows finger prints, but not scratches!
thanks very much for this!!

Looks like you could bounce a laser off that one. Yeah, too shiny for me. It is also kind of a fingerprint/smudge magnet. Nice work though.
It looks great! Personally I wouldn't do it to mine right now. The ipods have a shiny back like that too and it lives finger orbits and scratches.

You must work at a body shop or on cars as a hobby. That just screams it to me. I have plenty of gearhead friends that do the same type of thing. Nice work btw! The best I can do is change oil and brake pads on a good day lol! I did just redo the gasket on my oil pan and it wasn't too bad plus changed one of my O2 sensors. That was a royal pain without the proper wrench.... anyways, sorry to ramble on good work! Might have to steal that idea. Ever think of doing the same to the phone bezel so it would match? You'd have to be EXTREMELY careful though.

How did you do it? Did you use automobile metal polish? Do you know what type of metal its made out of? I was thinking about doing this a little while back and forgot about it. And I also want to etch some custom art into it as well. Make it more personalized
I would also like to do the trim piece but it would be tricky to do it without touching anything else, and I don't see myself taking it off.

That is straight G bro. I'm going to do that too because the clown that I got the phone from surface scrated the hell out of the back. I do keep a velcro patch on the back so I can stick it the my center consel it keeps it from getting sratched anymore too.

you should have finished it off with wetsanding with 4000 and then polished it with a rotating cloth and some oil (but not to intence, the oil can make the metal dark and ugly if u let it heat up too much from the friction)
i polished a piece of metal like that one time, made it clearer than my bathroom mirror
but still nice work

[GUIDE] Repair Xperia SP's aluminium frame

Hi there,
Here's a small guide which will help you all to repair your phone's aluminium frame , the inexpensive way using household products. At times people tend to drop the phone which causes the aluminium frame to chip off. Follow my steps carefully, and you'll be able to repair the damage.
NOTE: Do it at your own risk. I'm not responsible for the damage caused.
Things required:
- Toothpaste (Not gel based) (Preferably Sensodyne)
- Black acrylic paint
- White Glue (mainly used for Art & Craft projects)
- Cotton Swabs
- Tape (Scotch Tape or Cellophane tape)
- A solution of equal amount of Rubbing alcohol and distilled water. (For cleaning purpose)
Procedure:
Take bowl and mix 2 parts of Toothpaste with 1 part of White Glue and 1 part of black paint. This way you'll obtain the colour for the black frame. For white frame add 1/2 part of black paint only. You'll have to adjust the above ingredients a little bit to obtain the right colour.
For reference
Black Frame

White Frame
Tape up the sides of the back panel and screen leaving the affected area.
You'll have to add atleast 2 layers of tape.
Take a cotton swab , put the paint mixture and dab it on the affected area. Leave it overnight so that the paint dries off.
Using the rubbing alcohol solution, wipe off the excess paint.
And voila !, the frame is repaired.
paint
what about just the paint, i have the black version, it's not that visible but the paint is kinda grey on the sides and the frame under is black, is there any method to cover that little black area to make it greyish again ?

Well I had repaired my phone this way a week before making this thread. So , I didn't really thought of making a thread in the first place. But when I had it, I was really late to click the pictures and show my tutorial in a pictorial way for better understanding

can you show the pics of your phone how does it look after repairing it by this technique.

I dont know what glue to buy,and I forgot to buy the rubbin alcohol Dx
I am probably going to the mall today, and will see if I can buy the remaining ingredients.
Can I buy the white glue for sticking wood parts(it is hard as rock when it hardens),it is called "drvofix" in meh country, and use it for the mixture?
Thats the only hard, white glue I know of.

The silver colored 'xperia' is faded away. if you have any trick to bring it back it'll be good .

Thats quite impossible unless you use loads of printing and stuff.
Maybe a Xperia Logo of the same size and resolution printed on a Sticker Paper and cutting it out with precision, pasting it on the back of the cover along with some masking tape around the sides of the template and spraying the template with a Silver Car Paint should work, I think.
Car Paint is available in spray cans at car care shops.
Note - I haven't tried this out. It's just a thought.

Oh,I had sold my SP some time ago xD.
I did it,but it didnt look natural at all,so I took it off. .-------.
I didnt think that anyone cared,so I thought there would be no point in replying.

Change your grand to new look GYS THIS IS AWESOME ;)

First of all I am really glad that I removed entire silver coating (paint) at the side of my phone,an I discovered that it's stunning and no more worries about phone getting ugly due to peel off of silver paint
How to do it : peel the first layer using some hard material it will simply peel but dont push too hard use a coin or tablet strip
now second layer can be removed by rubbing with some cloth so simple but crefull dont use knife etc may get scratch:victory:

Its not golden its just a paint u can easily remove it by rubbing using a cloth...And after removing entire paint its not pure black it's just like a chrome finish material i doubt it as made of some sot of metal like material(like chrome):highfive:
