[Q] "Connecting Network, please wait for a while" - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure if this is the right section.. I apologize in advance. Alright so, right now, i'm using a rooted mytouch 4g without a data plan. Whenever i'm using my phone, a message appears at the bottom saying, "Connecting Network, please wait for a while." I'm not sure if its one of my apps or what.. but I don't remember downloading an apps that constantly needed wi-fi. Any ideas on how to get rid of it?

First of all, this is NOT the right place to open this thread. Here is the place to ask Questions.http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=830.Next time use it.
Now,about your problem.Explain more about this.Do you get just "Connecting Network, please wait for a while" message or you actually can not see your Network signals?Explain..Did not you make a Factory reset and see still have the problem?
You said you that your phone is rooted,no.What ROM you currently running?

Every now and then when I use my phone, the "Connecting Network, please wait for a while" message appears. And when I look at my connections, I have full signal, and my wifi isn't turned on either. And a factory reset? I'm afraid I have no tried that yet. I'm scared to try, since I have no data plan to activate the phone again. I'm currently using CyanogenMod-7-11162011-NIGHTLY-glacier.

So this is about wifi,nk then, first try a FIX PERMISSION in ROM Manger. After giving a FIX PERMISSION see that problem still have. Then report.Hey dude,Factory reset ONLY Erase datas on phone memory. It is like you flashed CM in first time.Notging will happen to data on SD or SIM card.

I tried the FIX PERMISSIONS thing, and it still occurs. I'm about to try the factory reset. So if I do a factory reset, what is it all gonna erase? Is it gonna erase my messages, my apps?

Yup(msg). It will erase everything on phone memory. If you wanna keep your sms, download sms backup app and back up all the sms. Then move that app to SD memory and Make a Titanum back up of that app.If you dont nedd sms bacjing up,then do a Factory reset. If you really afraid, unmount sd card and after that do a Factory reset. That is all

Would moving my apps to the SD card save me the time of installing them again? and would I have to install my Themes too?

You have to installs apps again. To avoid that, make titanium backups of every app you want. After factory resetting, just install Titanium backup and retore backed up apps

The message still appears... sadly. :\. Maybe it's one of my apps that keep trying to connect to the internet?

Did you rest your phone?I mean factory reset? After that, you restored all the apps or just messaging app?

Yeah, I did a factory reset, and got most of my apps back. (Which isn't a lot: Lookout mobile security, Easy task killer, Easy battery manager, temple run, angry birds space.) Those were the only apps I had on my phone ever. I was thinking it might be Lookout mobile security... but i'm not sure.

OH! Nevermind, I found out it was the Battery saver I installed. It kept requiring me to allow certain apps access to internet, so i tried uninstalling it and it worked! No more bothering messages! Thanks a lot, crazykas!

Glad to see you solve it!I was about to ask what apps have you installed.By the way,the is a app called LEB Privacy guard. It can block permissions(such as internet accessing, internet blocking) of apps which we installed.Use it to block unwanted apps.

Where can I get this so called LEB Privacy Guard?

Android market, doesn't remember my downloads?

Hi everyone
So I just flashed cyanogens 5.0 mod and I just assumed android market would remember what applications I had downloaded (yes, I'm an Android newbie) so you can imagine my surprise when only one of my previous downloads showed up!
I have no idea where I got it from but I was under the impression the Google saved my download history in Market? I mean it obviously remembered that one application lol
Any help is appreciated!
It does sort of. On the first boot after flashing a Tom go straight to the downloads and your apparently will show. Install all your Alps right then, if you leave the download page they go away. I hop Google fixes that soon.

No way! So I'm screwed? Well that sucks...
Is there really no other way? If I re-flash it, will I be given the same "chance" to go to market right away, or was that a one shot deal?
I think its one shot but it would hurt yo try.
No luck... I guess I'm screwed huh
Actually another 5 apps showed up in Market after a while, but that's it.
I'm still in shock that it didn't remember all my apps, I mean, whats the requirement?? gah...
Sorry man, at least it will always remember your paid apps even when you switch devices. But for next time if you wipe first thing you do is redownload your apps.

Lesson learned my friend, lesson learned...
Thx for the help!
Actually, when you boot up your phone for the first time (or after a wipe), there's an option for you to select if you want Google to save all your settings. If you don't check this option, your downloads (and other stuff I'm not exactly too sure about) won't save when you wipe or change phones.
I flashed Cyanogen's ROM yesterday and my whole list of downloads were there. Downloading them was a bit of a hassle though...

Yeah I do get that question after flashing, have no memory of getting it first time I started the phone tho.
I always checked that option when I got it, thinking it was a good idea, guess I'll try not checking it next time, but I guess by now the damage is already done.
Hey, I just restored my nandroid to before cyanogen, and all the apps are there now in downloads again.
Perhaps there's a way to save this yet
Missing apps
Actually thing happened to me today after installing 5.0
all of my apps where gone except for the paid ones so what i did was restore from my nand backup copied all of my apps down, and then i went ahead and re flashed 5.0
hope that helps
(hope you did a nand backup before flashing )
thanks

-Restore Nandroid
-Flash CyanMod and Google Apps
-Reboot

Is it really worth the hassle to avoid redownloading all the apps? I'm assuming by now the OP could have reinstalled the apps a hundred times already.

Sure I could have done that, but I'm used (from the windows mobile world) to flashing my phone at least once a week, and I'll probably keep that up here so I want to make sure I have a simple way to restore my applications afterwards.
I appreciate the help everyone, I'll try to re-flash later and see if they show up
Flashed CM 5.0 beta 3 now and went straight to market and voila, all my apps are present! :-D
Thanks everyone for taking your time to help me!

Problem with CyanogenMod

I really need some assistance with some of the settings for CyanogenMod. I just got done flashing the ROM and everything went smoothly, but there seems to be a problem with my data/coverage. The phone is in roaming mode and I can't get the data to work. I have everything configured correctly I think, but I can't get the data connection to work. There is no indication that it is on even though I have it checked. So I can't get on the internet unless it's through WiFi and I can't send/receive picture messages since I have no data.
Would really appreciate some assistance since I really like this ROM but I'm paying for data and it seems I can't use it /:
Thanks for any advice

Sounds like you may not have done a full Wipe/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache and wipe dalvik cache before you flashed. You perform these steps from ClockworkMod recovery before you flash the ROM.
Another thing that could have happened is that you had the USB cable plugged in when you entered ClockworkMod to flash the new ROM. Once you copy the new ROM to your SD card you should unplug the USB cable and then reboot into ClockworkMod.

The bold is something that is so common and so miniscule that many users often overlook it but it can cause weird things to happen when flashing ROMs and other things...
Also, @OP dial *#*#4636#*#* then go to phone information and scroll down...what option do you have for "Set preferred network type"?

Anytime bud, just trying to help you The moral of the story was, I read your post and that was the first thing that came to mind and you got all salty, no problem though i understand you're frustrated. I would be to. As blake posted, did you happen to have your USB cable plugged in while you were booting into clockwork to flash your ROM and did you also clear cache, dalvik and data? I'll assume you cleared everything since you probably followed a tutorial verbatim on this site or some other site but the USB thing, while so small, can actually cause so many issues...no hard feelings bro
Also, please see above post for the preferred network type information...

I actually just downloaded the zip on my phone and moved it to the SD card with Astro, is this a problem? So I wasn't ever connected to a computer.
And I'm positive I did the full wipe.
The preferred network type says, WCDMA preferred

Yessir, that's what I've got as well...I'm assuming that you actually had service when you were on a non-cyanogenmod ROM?
1. Where did you download the ROM from? Was it from one of the links in attn1's thread?
- i.e. one of the two links supplied here?
2. If so...If I were you I would, redownload the ROM, move it out of your downloads folder (i.e. from /sdcard/downloads to /sdcard/) and wipe data, cache, dalvik and reflash...
3. Again, if I were you, and #2 didn't fix anything I would go back to a sense ROM and see if the problem is still existant. If it's not then idfk what to tell you LOL...but if it is then its probably hardware related...I would also flash BACK to the CM ROM after going back to the sense...
I know seems like a lot of stuff but if you're dedicated to having CM then you might just have to bear with the bs ;(

[Q] update package unavailable

My Bravo constantly gives me a " 'INFO' The update package is not available at this time" message. It is very annoying. I have 2.2 update and phone works great, other than the poor signal now. Also when I go to about phone > system updates, it says an update is currently being downloaded. But it's been like this for a week. Is there a way to clear cache or make this message go away. Sorry noob question but I did try searching this out before I posted.
MotoBravo, If you have not done a factory reset since you did the update that is the place to start.
Hey thanks for response. Stupid question but will the factory reset revert me back to 2.1 ?

No, but it will erase all your personal data/apps on your phone (your sd card will still have its data though).
Backup your contacts and apps first!
Well I'm backed up except for .apks , but they wont let me transfer. I'm in debug so dont know what the problem is . Damn I got old.

What did you use to backup? I recommend buying bandroidx's bootstrap recovery to back everything up, or getting titanium backup for just your apps
Yeah I had Titanium already so went that route. Did the hard reset and all is well. Close this baby .

[Q] LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing - possible SD Card issue?

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this will do...
All of a sudden today my MT4G with LauncherPro Plus keeps refreshing or restarting or something on the home screen. Sometimes it does it every minute or so other times it does it so rapidly the home screen isn't even showing up before it does it again.
Worst part aside from the annoying bright flash every time it happens is that it kicks me out of apps to do it.
It's not a Force Close and no errors pop up it just refreshes to the Home screen as if I hit the Home button or restarted LauncherPro.
I am so confused.
I have no new apps recently, but I did Root a few days ago using The Unlockr's Visionary root.sh method. Had no problems when doing it and phone has been fine since until this. No custom ROM yet, still on Stock 2.2.1 while I research which one I want to get.
I already wrote to the LauncherPro people who thought it might be because Keep in Memory was checked, but it isn't checked so no help there.
There was one point when I unmounted my SD card to put it in the pc to get to the files because this issue kept kicking me out of Astro and I couldn't get anything done. And while the card was out, it did not do it. As soon as the card was back in though it started up again.
Sometimes restarting LP will help, but other times it will make it go more frequently. So frustrating.
Can anyone help or at least point me in the right direction. I have a video of it if that will help to post it, but it doesn't show much, just the home screen restarting several times. Also happy to provide any more info anyone thinks might be helpful it stopping this.
Thanks so much!
Jen

Uninstall didn't work :-( it's still doing it. Not quite as frequently but bad enough I am still getting kicked out of apps. I'm wondering if it is even a launcherpro issue since I never had a problem before yesterday. Any and all suggestions, help, advice and ideas welcome. I'll try anything this is driving me crazy!
Lol try the Uninstall method but instead install another launcher then press the home button to choice the newly installed launcher and see if that works ?

Tried ADW Launcher and it did the same thing :-( Guess it is not LP after all. I put LP back and reboot. As of now it is not doing it, but I am very afraid to reboot or do anything in case it starts up again LOL
Can't help wondering if when I flash a new ROM it might stop altogether...

well depending on what ROM you have installed (Im assuming stock froyo after reading the OP), just run the ROM Manager app and then "reboot into recovery". from there, the recovery screen comes up. you can then "wipe cache partition", then "advanced>wipe dalvik cache". finally, "advanced>fix permissions" and after its done you can then reboot your phone. this USUALLY fixes a lot of problems with FC's and other issues

Update: It has continued to do it, not constantly, and seemingly randomly, but yeah, not totally fixed. Going to flash the new CM7, trying to fix other issues, maybe that will help.
I did try your above advice, wiped the caches, fixed permissions... it was stable for a few days then started up again. Really bad at first, like I wasn't even seeing the screen before it flashed again repeatedly. That was about a week or so ago... Now it is still doing it but every couple minutes instead. I mostly don't notice it unless I am in one of the apps it kicks me out of when it happens. Really really annoying. hopefully the new ROM will help.
Has anyone else been having this problem or found a solution. I've been trying to flash a new ROM this weekend, but can't stay in any apps long enough to prepare the phone for it. Titanium Backup and ROM Manager keep closing because of the launcher restarts. Not force closes, they just exit out and go back to the home screen which just keeps refreshing. I can't stay in Apps2Sd Pro long enough to move apps, can't stay in the market to update apps, and can't uninstall anything, I can't even stay in Astro long enough to do anything. It's driving me insane and I really want to make sure as many apps as I can are moved to the SD card and backed up to flash the new ROM. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Getting rid of OTA updates on a rooted device by freezing "Software Update" apps

Getting rid of OTA updates on a rooted device by freezing "Software Update" apps
I have a rooted Galaxy s10+ with android pie. Doesn't freezing "Software Update" system apps of my android by Titanium Backup make booting problems for my device? Is it safe for me to freeze those apps? I ask because I've heard freezing some system apps like "Device Care" stops the device from booting. As other fellas I get ota update notifications and I wanna get rid of them by freezing those apps.
not a soul to answer?
dont know, never used it on this app
why dont you just hide the notifications?

because they come back, of course I tried that. you cannot just hide their notifications. They are system apps which android doesn't let you to hide their notifications. you can even stop the apps with some apps but they come back. I just wanna know the answer to my question because all other ways has already been tried and they were unsuccessful.
You can freeze the software update without issues, or at least you could back in Galaxy S4 days. Pie might work differently than lollipop.

lol that is very nice of you. If you don't mind messing with your Android Pie you can do it now because I just wanna see that the OS boots after freezing "software update" apps using Titanium Backup

Some ideas:
Autonotification blocks permanent notifications permanently .
Or make a Nandroid backup with TWRP and restore if necessary.
Or use TWRP file manager (or aroma file manager https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108) to backup packages .xml file (should work also on PIE) in the data/system folder, which contains information About enabled and disabled packages.

Thank you, I still wanna wait for someone who has done the freezing way. No TWRP on my mobile and I also want things to be done clean. don't like any overload by other apps like autonotification.

Ok.
Always know that having root without having a custom recovery (TWRP) can be very risky because, in case you or some root-app make your phone bootloop, you cannot recover easily (And you lose your data).

Thanks for your advice. Yea you are right but at the moment s10+ was just released and its TWRP wasn't working properly. I'm an advanced user but I just don't have enough time to do it all over again let alone getting back up gets much time itself.
Still waiting for the answer folks ?
SO basically you are asking someone else to potentially F*** up their phone because you are not willing to try it yourself ? Sorry, but that's how it sounds....

Of course not. Some people have enough time to try different software and ways to make phones better. Some even have recovery software like TWRP which can undo if something go wrong. I'm asking them to share if they had the experience I mentioned. I was one of them a while ago.
