I really need some assistance with some of the settings for CyanogenMod. I just got done flashing the ROM and everything went smoothly, but there seems to be a problem with my data/coverage. The phone is in roaming mode and I can't get the data to work. I have everything configured correctly I think, but I can't get the data connection to work. There is no indication that it is on even though I have it checked. So I can't get on the internet unless it's through WiFi and I can't send/receive picture messages since I have no data.
Would really appreciate some assistance since I really like this ROM but I'm paying for data and it seems I can't use it /:
Thanks for any advice

Sounds like you may not have done a full Wipe/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache and wipe dalvik cache before you flashed. You perform these steps from ClockworkMod recovery before you flash the ROM.
Another thing that could have happened is that you had the USB cable plugged in when you entered ClockworkMod to flash the new ROM. Once you copy the new ROM to your SD card you should unplug the USB cable and then reboot into ClockworkMod.

The bold is something that is so common and so miniscule that many users often overlook it but it can cause weird things to happen when flashing ROMs and other things...

Anytime bud, just trying to help you The moral of the story was, I read your post and that was the first thing that came to mind and you got all salty, no problem though i understand you're frustrated. I would be to. As blake posted, did you happen to have your USB cable plugged in while you were booting into clockwork to flash your ROM and did you also clear cache, dalvik and data? I'll assume you cleared everything since you probably followed a tutorial verbatim on this site or some other site but the USB thing, while so small, can actually cause so many issues...no hard feelings bro
Also, please see above post for the preferred network type information...

I actually just downloaded the zip on my phone and moved it to the SD card with Astro, is this a problem? So I wasn't ever connected to a computer.
And I'm positive I did the full wipe.
The preferred network type says, WCDMA preferred

Yessir, that's what I've got as well...I'm assuming that you actually had service when you were on a non-cyanogenmod ROM?
1. Where did you download the ROM from? Was it from one of the links in attn1's thread?
- i.e. one of the two links supplied here?
2. If so...If I were you I would, redownload the ROM, move it out of your downloads folder (i.e. from /sdcard/downloads to /sdcard/) and wipe data, cache, dalvik and reflash...
3. Again, if I were you, and #2 didn't fix anything I would go back to a sense ROM and see if the problem is still existant. If it's not then idfk what to tell you LOL...but if it is then its probably hardware related...I would also flash BACK to the CM ROM after going back to the sense...
I know seems like a lot of stuff but if you're dedicated to having CM then you might just have to bear with the bs ;(

Guys, I have no idea what i'm doing wrong. I'm trying to flash MoDaCo 1.3a, and when I do, it tells me that it can't open the file location because it's (bad). The reason that i'm trying to flash this rom is because my data stopped working. I can't get on the internet. My Market worked, but my browser didn't. not even with a wifi connection that had internet access. I'm so confused; any and all help is deeply appreciated

Sounds like you have lots of issues...lets keep them seperate.
1. What did you do when Data stopped working?
Are you sure that loading a new rom will help?
What steps have you done to try to fix this? Wipe/Factory Reset??
2. What recovery version do you have loaded?
I assume the update file is on the root of your SDcard, make sure that the card is not mounted. Recovery cannot read the file if is is.

Ditto. And have you tried calling Sprint? Start with a data wipe. If that doesn't work then RUU. If that doesn't work then you need to call Sprint.

yay flipz agreed with me!!! I am as smart as i think i am!!! Hahaha
saying it can't open the rom when you try to flash is because you have a corupt version of the file on your SD card. re download and copy to your phone, make sure it is finished before disconnecting and try to flash then.
also I agree with flipz and kcarpenter call sprint/
I had a similar situation with the data connection.. with a warrantee replacement phone.. browser no workie. So I did the RUU and it fixed it..
Phone: Tmobile Hd2
Base Rom: Energy dec 30 I think
radio: 2.12
magldr: latest
clockwork mod: latest
NAND rom: MDJ cyanogen mod 7 ver. 2.5 gingerbread
Hi, I've tried basically everything. Tried everything I could find for variations for apn settings,
turning on and off data, turning on and off airplane mode, turning on 2g only, hard reset, reflashing the zip rom (works fine when I go back to last rom) and my data worked for a minute when I reflashed the zip rom. It no longer works. I scoured xda and could find nothing!
Anybody have this problem/know a fix for it? Greatly appreciate the help, I like the rom a lot, so I don't want to have to go back to the old one!

Every now and then it seems it will let me load google, and then it won't let me load any other pages. It displays that 3g is up,

The very first splash screen you see is not touched by Magldr installation, so it remains as it was. As for your WM ROM, it's gone. Completely.
Anyway, check your APN settings against the settings found on this page...
http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
Maybe there is a discrepancy?
As for letting you load Google every now and then, I think that's probably a cached version of the page. Whenever I've had data problems, I've always ignored my home page and tried a different page to see if I do actually have a data connection. I usually just click one of the links at the top of Google (Images/News etc..)
Tried the APN, can't get it to work, period. Tried the apn, tried turning on and off data, on and off for airplane mode, resetting, and im not sure what else. Do I need to clear my cache and data and reflash? can anything else possibly be the problem? could it be that I forgot to flash DAF before clockwork mod?

I doubt that CWM has anything to do with this. It really does sound like the APN settings in the ROM you installed are just wrong. Did you actually check against the ones on the page I linked you?
Other than that, I can only suggest trying a different ROM. Clearing data out before flashing is irrelevant, as flashing will itself clear everything like that.
I manually re-entered all the apn data MULTIPLE times. And tried several variations; and for that link you sent me, Operator: - T-Mobile (Internet)
GPRS APN: - internet2.voicestream.com
Username: - {blank}
Password: - {blank}
DNS: - 216.155.175.105, 216.155.175.106
thats what it tells me for tmobile data, and I cannot find anywhere in apn settings that say's dns, which makes it all the more confusing.
I tried the settings that another person posted that worked fine on the last rom I was on; wifi ironically works (it didn't on my last rom) and now my data doesnt work.

If you've tried the exact same settings on 2 different ROMs and it works on one but not the other, then I'm afraid the only answer is that there's a problem with the ROM. You could search the thread where you got the ROM from, and ask in there if it's not already answered. The only other alternative is to give up with that ROM and try a different one.
Sorry mate, but that's all I can suggest.
Had same issue
Hi, I had the same issue when I updated, using CWM, from MDJ's v. 2.3 to v. 2.5
I spent almost a day to understand that probably during the flash something went wrong and at the end I decided to flash the non-CWM rom, and magically all my connections started to work again.
( I did some debugging of the problem because I couldn't even get root (before the update everything was fine) and I had to manually fix permission and at the end I discovered that busybox was broken ( continuous seg faults) )
Just so it's clear, this issue can't be related to CWM. CWM is something that you can boot into, instead of Android, but it does absolutely nothing - doesn't even run - when you boot into Android. The only thing I can think that may be relevant is that I know a ROM has to be made "ready" for CWM. Maybe something in that process is causing a problem. You guys really should make the ROM devs aware of this, if you haven't already, in order to stop the problem.
Data works for a lot of people from what I got from the thread for the rom I'm using. Which is all the more maddening, not knowing if I did something wrong or what. Could it be possible that my data is not working because my flash memory is not partitioned?

I'd expect the majority of people using the same ROM to have no problems with data, or the ROM simply wouldn't be available as it would be useless. I really don't think that partitioning would have anything to do with this problem.
What ROM is it? Could you post a link to the thread?

Okay, I can see quite a lot of people on there saying that they're having the exact same problem as you, but no-one can offer any help, so I can't see a solution.
The only thing I can suggest is that you use a different ROM. For some reason, that one just isn't going to work for you.

I would say to do a full wipe (cache, dalvik cache, data, and reset to factory setting) and reflash the rom & kernel combo of your choice. Also update your radios to the latest and then update your profile under menu\settings\system updates. This should get the phone up and running better and stop the need for constant reboots. As for the widgets saying "problem loading", I get that as well and I think it is due to moving the widgets in question to your sd card. If you put them back on the internal memory of the phone that shouldnt happen anymore. If you are worried about taking up to much internal memory with widgets just set up the aps2sd and you will be able to put more of your apps on the partioned portion of your sd card and save more internal memory. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps. I would like to save your EVO and not make it a chew toy for anyone!
I agree with adam, try a complete wipe, even flash calkulin's format all.zip (search for it) and flash the latest radios and re flash cyanogen. You'd be amazed at what horrors can come from not wiping the dalvik and cache. Speaking of which, try out amon ra recovery if you already haven't.
Sent from my hand.
I agree with Adam1422. It sounds like you need to do a full wipe and clean install. Do not use Titanium/Launcher/ADW/anyotherprogram backups. Save files like pictures, music, documents off your SD and format the card. Do not reuse settings or data from programs. Go into it like you just bought the phone. That will probably clear up all of your issues.

Not if you do your due diligence, read up on how to do it and then perform the steps carefully without rushing. We were all n00bs once, my friend. Sure there's some tension when rooting for the first time, but there's one hell of a rush when it works. You'll be fine.

Not that I can think of, man. Good luck. Come back if you need help.
you are in the right forum to fix your phone...
it is not the phone.. but I agree with others.. you need a fresh setup done.
or even try a different ROM...
the hard part has been done for you.. ROOTing...
you need to go learn about the ROM you like... and how to install it.
learn about: wipe, recovery, nandroid backup, ROM, ...
this needs to be learned anyways for your life with EVO, because you wanted it rooted.
ps.. to fix this.. you are going to loose all your data and put your phone almost back to stock form. dont worry.. contacts and calendar should be backed up to google if you told evo to do so.

Where can i direction to do the procedure?? whats the first step??
here is a good place to start reading:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html
I would like for you to try a new ROM... that is Sense ... so that you are able to use it more to what the EVO was.
this ROM is stable and has everything working:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793471
once you have done one Flashing of a ROM.. and working..
you can easily do others as you find interest in them.
more side reading for afterwards:
there is the rooting procedure that I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
since you are already rooted.. this not needed.
but you should read the first page.. for your knowledge
here is the main forum for evo on xda.. for development. lots for you to research on new things for evo:

Step-by-step instructions for how to do this, plus flash ROMs and stuff, can be found here:
http://htcevorooting.x10.mx/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
Ask your friend what method he used to root your phone, plus check which recovery manager you're using (reboot your phone into recovery, it should say which manager it is. If you're still running CyanogenMod there should be an option to do this if you choose reboot instead of shutdown when holding the power button.)
Hai,
I just recently rooted my Nexus 4,
First I:
1. I flashed the latest nightly franco kernel on there
2. Installed the latest CyanogenMod ROM
My signal was working fine, then;
3. I installed some apps from the play store
4. Rebooted my device, and then the signal was gone
Waited all night and it didn't come back to me :crying:
SO, I removed the ROM and restored via the clockworkmod method,
and NOW i am only running the franco kernel, and when i try to activate the CM ROM (via ROM manager) i get the same signal problem.
Any way to fix this?
I want to have CM 10.1 Mod and Franco kernel running togther
P.S. I'm a n00b so go easy on me :silly:
Thanks for your help :fingers-crossed:

Sounds like CM has a default APN, and it doesn't work for you plan/carrier. You need to get the correct APN (Access Point Name) and put it in your phone. To get to your APN's go Settings->Wireless and Networks->More...->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names
I don't know which APN you'll need, try searching the forums for something like "[Your Carrier] APNs". They differ depending on plans as well as carriers, so make sure you grab the APN for your plan.
*EDIT* I misread your post. I didn't see that all you did was install some apps and reboot between the time it worked and didn't work. My advice might not help. I would still look into it if you haven't though. It sounds like that is what's wrong.

Alright thanks, I'm gunna try that.
Also, if this helps; during the time that my service was down, in settings there was no option to turn my data on/off, it's like i had no data...
*EDIT* also one more question, do i have to wipe data and cache when installing CM via ROM Manager?
Tell me you did a full wipe on the recovery before flashing anything.
And You flash the ROM first before the Kernel.
Yeah I wiped everything, the ROM is working fine now, should I flash the kernel now? I don't want to run into any problems again

Yep. Although I suggest to wipe dalvik and cache to avoid some problems.

Reboot into Recovery. Main page go to Wipe Cache Partition. For dalvik, From the main menu go to Advanced->wipe dalvik cache
I have CWM, not sure if other recoveries are laid out like that so if you have a different one, might not be those exact steps.

Sweet, I got it to work. Thanks!
Okay, so I recently (yesterday) rooted my Note 3, I was running X-Note v7.0 and CWM Based Recovery v6.0.4.5., Samsung Voice was annoying me so I decided to delete it via Root Explorer, it seems it wasn't actually Samsung Voice and upon reset it struggled to boot into the ROM, the background was black, I couldn't access anything but the notification bar.
I was a bit annoyed, but no worries, I'll just re-install X-Note and it'll replace the missing file and I'll be good to go. Wrong. It was exactly the same. So I thought I'll have to wipe and re-install, slightly more annoyed as it's taken me a day to set the device up nicely!
I wiped, re-installed and still, it's the same. I've wiped the data and factory reset five times in a row from recovery, wiped dalvik, formatted, /System, /Data & /Cache separately. Re-installed the ROM again and it still won't work.
It will do the normal long boot, showing the boot animation, then boot into the setup screen, won't let me use Wi-FI, so I skip that and all Google logins etc etc, load the new ROM and it's just black, again.
So now I am soft bricked, I can't wipe, I can't re-install, I cant't lay my stock backup over the ROM. I'm currently downloading Omega v6.0 to see if another ROM will fix it.
Any advice? I'm fast running out of ideas! Is there any way to totally format the internal memory like the Galaxy Nexus had? That way I can do a complete fresh install which should fix my issue. :crying:

Sammobile, but if you want a faster download grab one from dejmbey's thread in the dev section (pre-rooted)

I've found the thread here, can I install any on a UK Vodafone N3? Is the first one okay to flash?
Okay, so I have no baseband or IME it seems, I've found this thread and I think it will solve my problem. I am getting zero reception and my phone is rebooting so fast I can barely get into the settings menu.

Radicalisto, you are my new best friend! :victory:
Okay, so the ROM seems stable enough. I have data service as I'm writing this through the network, but, I can't receive texts or calls, I can call and send texts out, but I can't receive any in return.
Any ideas?

Double check your APN regarding the txts - calls however, you may need to fresh flash as it may have caused some coruption - did you dirty flash? if so, probably your issue.

It was a clean flash, which wasn't great. So I restored an older backup which was also crap, so I dirty flashed over it and I've got some call and texts received but it keeps dropping to one bar of HSDPA and then dropping out completely.
Regarding the APN, I'm on stock Vodafone contract. I've not looked into changing it. It all seems in order.

It could be a modem/radio isssue then - I'm not 100% on that subject and would hate to hazard a guess on how to fix, as they can brick your device if you mess up. Safer to see if anyone else chimes in mate, I wouldn't wanna risk telling you something that may ruin your device
I'm sure you'll get sorted though :good:

I've flashed many radios via ADB before, it's no worse than flashing a ROM. Although I doubt it's as easy on a frigging Samsung phone!
I can't see how the radio got messed up though, I'll have to have a look through the dev section for updated radios.
It seems of all the days for Vodafone to have a bad signal day, yesterday was it. After getting into work this morning a couple of work colleagues also struggled to send and receive texts/calls. I text 'web' to 40127 on Vodafone UK to get the correct APN settings delivered to my phone regardless and I'll seems well except a double boot when rebooting or cold booting the phone, but I can live with that.

I walked into Carphone Warehouse yesterday in a strop and nearly bought a Nexus 5 instead, if they'd have had the 32gb version I'd be messaging on that right now. Good job they didn't have it in stock, haha.
Thanks again Radicalisto. :victory:
Lmao! - No problem man
