Okay, so I recently (yesterday) rooted my Note 3, I was running X-Note v7.0 and CWM Based Recovery v6.0.4.5., Samsung Voice was annoying me so I decided to delete it via Root Explorer, it seems it wasn't actually Samsung Voice and upon reset it struggled to boot into the ROM, the background was black, I couldn't access anything but the notification bar.
I was a bit annoyed, but no worries, I'll just re-install X-Note and it'll replace the missing file and I'll be good to go. Wrong. It was exactly the same. So I thought I'll have to wipe and re-install, slightly more annoyed as it's taken me a day to set the device up nicely!
I wiped, re-installed and still, it's the same. I've wiped the data and factory reset five times in a row from recovery, wiped dalvik, formatted, /System, /Data & /Cache separately. Re-installed the ROM again and it still won't work.
It will do the normal long boot, showing the boot animation, then boot into the setup screen, won't let me use Wi-FI, so I skip that and all Google logins etc etc, load the new ROM and it's just black, again.
So now I am soft bricked, I can't wipe, I can't re-install, I cant't lay my stock backup over the ROM. I'm currently downloading Omega v6.0 to see if another ROM will fix it.
Any advice? I'm fast running out of ideas! Is there any way to totally format the internal memory like the Galaxy Nexus had? That way I can do a complete fresh install which should fix my issue. :crying:

I've found the thread here, can I install any on a UK Vodafone N3? Is the first one okay to flash?
Okay, so I have no baseband or IME it seems, I've found this thread and I think it will solve my problem. I am getting zero reception and my phone is rebooting so fast I can barely get into the settings menu.

Any ideas?

Double check your APN regarding the txts - calls however, you may need to fresh flash as it may have caused some coruption - did you dirty flash? if so, probably your issue.

It was a clean flash, which wasn't great. So I restored an older backup which was also crap, so I dirty flashed over it and I've got some call and texts received but it keeps dropping to one bar of HSDPA and then dropping out completely.
Regarding the APN, I'm on stock Vodafone contract. I've not looked into changing it. It all seems in order.

It could be a modem/radio isssue then - I'm not 100% on that subject and would hate to hazard a guess on how to fix, as they can brick your device if you mess up. Safer to see if anyone else chimes in mate, I wouldn't wanna risk telling you something that may ruin your device
I'm sure you'll get sorted though :good:

I've flashed many radios via ADB before, it's no worse than flashing a ROM. Although I doubt it's as easy on a frigging Samsung phone!
I can't see how the radio got messed up though, I'll have to have a look through the dev section for updated radios.
It seems of all the days for Vodafone to have a bad signal day, yesterday was it. After getting into work this morning a couple of work colleagues also struggled to send and receive texts/calls. I text 'web' to 40127 on Vodafone UK to get the correct APN settings delivered to my phone regardless and I'll seems well except a double boot when rebooting or cold booting the phone, but I can live with that.

Folks,
I've been running the ICS Kang project build without any issues (2.3) for the past while. Last night the tablet locked up on me and I powered it off by holding down the on/off button. When I went to turn it back on it now permanently hangs during boot. I can still get into CWM but attempting to wipe either the D. Cache or data hangs. Anyone got any ideas?
Can you restore a backup?
If you can't do anything in CWM then you might have to Odin back to stock....
I can flash a new rom but there appears to be something wrong with the data partition - can't wipe it and tablet wont boot.
You don't happen to have a link to restoring tab via ODIN? I was just browsing for that...

No problem... It should go nice and smooth and once it boots back up check in settings for system updates..
Well, thanks! That did the trick! I am back to the stock Samsung firmware and have already reflashed clockwork. I really don't know what went wrong in the first place, but I suppose that's what you get for living on the 'alpha' edge...
Thanks again! (BTW I did click the 'thanks' button ;-) )
BTW - for anyone interested or suffering a similar problem, in the end this required a full reset - all data was lost which sucked for me as I had all my backups on the device too (don't bother calling me stupid, I've already done it)....
I'm guessing some bug in the ICS KANG alpha screwed the partitions up which nothing short of a full reset could fix...
Sweet! Glad you are back up and rockin'...
phew!
I had exactly the same problem yesterday, and I thought my tab was completely fubar until I came across this post.
I was running the "official unofficial" CM9 snapshot for p4wifi, and before that I ran AOPK build 27, I think. I did not perform a full wipe before going to CM9.
I change roms on my tab very often to try to find the best, so something must have gotten messed up, but it's somewhat odd since it worked in the morning, and then when I came to work it had totally b0rked up on me.
Anyway, this post was a life saver although I lost all my data (didn't keep a titanium backup or a CWM backup on another storage than the internal storage. shame on me).
So - thanks alot raqball!

Hehe, well, I usually do a wipe but this time I read somewhere that you probably didn't need to when going from aokp to cm9, since they are pretty much the same.

Understandable... but unless the Dev. says no wipe needed, I would always suggest it, even when it's virtually the same ROM, thread, Dev., etc...
At least it wasn't too hard of a lesson.

When i press vol up/down it takes ten seconds to pop up. Sound does not work at all whether calling/playing music. Settings f/c when I attempt to click the sound menu. I believe everything else is working fine.
Tried reflashing stock firmware countless times... Tried flashing numerous custom 4.4 roms.
Australian bought phone if it makes any difference.
Please help as Im stuck using a spare iphone 4 and its killing me! haha.

I believe the best thing to do now is to flash stock ROM and make sure to full wipe everything even internal memory.
If you have external memory, back up what ever you think necessary to it, the remove it from the device and keep it out.
That clean start well give you a good indication whether the problem is based on a bad flash or there is something wrong with the device.
If everything is running smoothly, we will see about flashing custom ROM.

Yep its what ive done, reflashed stock completly and removed sd card. Still no dice - running complete stock 4.4 still with this problem.
Could this be an EFS problem?
If it were an efs problem you wouldn't even boot in most cases.
Can you describe how you flashed stock ROM? Maybe you did it wrong.

NEE region? - if so it has issues with 4.4.2, @nex7er had the same issues, and if you're using SweetROM I believe he pm'd not-i the fix for it. -- It can be fixed though.
Maybe completely wipe it (System, Data and all) and then Flash stock with Odin?

I did post the reason on the last page what I think it might be...... if you're in a Nordic region or even have a nordic model it's a common problem, if you search around you'll see others that have the same issue (notably ne7xer). -- If it's not that, then it's a warranty job due to faulty HW
EDIT: you could try a complete wipe including re-partitioning, but that's a bigger job that you'd want to do in all honesty.

Could be my last option considering knox is tripped..
Got a link to a tutorial for re-partitioning?
Grab a PIT file for your device; - then you flash firmware with Odin / PIT file. - I have never done it, nor do I fancy doing it, but have a read (journeyman posted asking how and done it, it's in this section Q+A) - I can never remember whether you flash the PIT first then the firmware or both together. I wouldn't want to hazard a guess just in case though.
But if you've tripped KNOX, then yes, seems like it could be your last option, unless you have tried some various custom ROMs? ( I know sweetROM seems to be the master fix for any issues peple have on KK atm) could just be a stock issue currently that will more than likely get a fix at some point.
EDIT As yours is an AU phone, possible it could be a HK model? - from KOGAN? I know some AU users have had HK models from them.
EDIT2: When I flashed HAL ROM, @theresident stated in his how to OP that we needed to format /system during install - It's possible this may also fix it, but that wipes your entire system obviously and *IF* it doesn't boot up you then have issues
EDIT3 : quote from HAL ROM OP
Instalation:
1. Copy the zip to the phone
2. Reboot to Recovery/CWM
3. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
4. Wipe Cache
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache
6. Mounts and Storage then click "Format /System" (This won't delete any of your data)
7. Install.. wait one minute and ROCK !!!

You are hijacking.
Anyway,
1. Install es file manager or any file reader with root.
2. navigate to /System/etc/permissions
3. open "platform.xml" file to edit
4. look for the stack that has "WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"
you will find something like <group gid="sdcard_r" />
5. make sure these lines are there, if not, add them
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
<group gid="media_rw" />
That's it

I had the exact same problem! Phone would boot into the rom, or stock and freeze after about a minute and reboot itself constantly. I had the updated version of TWRP and was flashing the new 1/30 Mahdi build and it happened after I did that! I tried flashing stock roms, aosp roms, and eventually did a Flash back to stock method, which non of them worked. I took the phone into T-Mobile and did a warranty replacement, got a new one overnight. Not sure if it is related to Mahdi or not, but it happened after a supposed successful flash.
I tried my TWRP Backups too, and those still restarted on me. Nothing helped me..Tried wiping the sd card, format the whole card, wipe cache, fix perm..
Hopefully you have a warranty or figure it out!
Good luck.

Should still be under warranty with LG. I'd call their support and give them the serial number to see if it still covered.
As far as the LG Warranty goes, all I did is walk into the store and show them the issue at hand, and he put in a order for a new one sent overnight to me. They send you a prepaid label and a box to ship your old one back(phone only). The new phone I have appears to be brand new, with all the crazy plastic protection on it... not sure if it is a refurbish or not. Didn't cost me a penny, as I have the JUMP w/ protection plan.
Running an Australian N9005.
I was running Temaseks unofficial CM11 build just fine. Got bored and wanted to go back to a more Samsung styled phone.
Decided to flash X-Note. As I'd used it before CM11. It worked fine then.
Attempted to flash X-Note but it wouldn't boot, stuck at initial screen with the Kernel warnings at the top of the screen. Was told it was because I hadn't got the new 4.4 bootloader.
I was told to follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46223545&postcount=2
Which I did.
Using these download links and instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49931269
That fixed the boot issue. I suppose I'm not on the 4.4 bootloader.
However when I booted up the stock Polish ROM, the initial Samsung Setup Wizard would crash at the end of the setup and force me back to the start of the setup. Tried ignoring it and just flashing the custom recovery and then XNote. Same issue, the setup wizard in XNote crashes as well.
Someone then told me I should try repartitioning the device using a PIT. I don't know what that is, but it was suggested.
Using this ROM: https://mega.co.nz/#!QVwlVDgJ!QyAxmDMcsIA-56cX_28Ua2aPZLcJATVvdM07LOs0V10
And this PIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50614669&postcount=77
Completes successfully.
Same issue............... That being a third separate ROM (official? at that)....
Samsung Setup Wizard crashes...
I even tried flashing XNote and removing the setup wizard just to get past it. That fixes it for about 10 minutes or so. After about 10 minutes of use the phone freezes and I have to hold the power button to force it to restart. If I leave the phone off, it still freezes, as soon as I try to unlock it it freezes and need to force restart.
I really don't know what to do now... Any help guys? I'm trying my best here...
Please, if you need any more information, please ask.
Might not help, but have you wiped your phone clean using custom recovery ( data, cache, dalvik, internal sd ) before flashing xnote or factory reset on recovery when on stock?

Yes indeed. I'm very confused...
So... I don't want to get ahead of myself, but my phone seems to have sorted itself out...
I decided to just send it back to the carrier to get it replaced. So I decided to just flash the official Firmware again. (I accidentally left repartition ticked)
Once it started I thought... Oh ****... But I was sending it back anyway so who cares. (the carrier said they will just swap it for me if they can see it not working)
So I let it finish and turn it on to see what happens, run through the setup to make sure it still crashes at the same spot so I can show them... and it doesn't crash... wtf?
So I flash the custom recovery and XNote... And it seems to be working now. Now freezing, no nothing... I... I don't know...

Quick Sanity Check here. I mainly just want to confirm that I have all my ducks in a row before I pull the trigger on installing my first ROM on my 3 mo old S5. I have flashed ROMS in the past on other devices, but it has been 3 years or so, and then it was on the first day I got said device. I have been using my S5 for a few months now, and I don't want to lose any of my accumulated data. So here goes.
Running Stock 4.4.4 on G900V
I am Rooted via Towelroot, and I have installed Safestrap recovery. I also completed a Nandroid backup.
I completed a Titanium backup of all my apps and system settings just now.
I plan to flash the MOAR Rom to stock slot via Safestrap, and upon completion, do a restore from Titanium.
My hope is that by doing that, I will wind up with a custom ROM, but with all my contacts, sms messages, Apps and app settings, which is actually the entire point of this post.
Am I right in assuming that if I follow those steps, I should be good?
Your advice/confirmation/response will be appreciated!! Thanks!
Wow.. 40 views and no one knows the answer to my query? I just need a quick yes if my hunch is true, or if I'm off, just a no and a few small words or correction. Thanks will be given!

Make sure to backup call log, and the sms in titanium as well. The easiest way to keep everything the same app and data wise is to wipe all partitions besides micro sd and data, and then flash do a slightly dirty flash. Thats what I did, and it worked just fine. Just make sure to back up, and after you flash, make sure to odin the oa8 kernel as well. Also make sure to flash the kernel before first boot. Btw my phone took a while to boot up, so dont be too worried if it takes longer than 5 minutes. Mine took like 10-15 minutes, and has been rock solid since. Hope this helps!

Thanks Thorkle! Are you sure I only need to flash OA8 Kernel? When I look at JKRuse's instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/vzwstock-based-tw-rom-t3024731
It mentions that it is important to flash the entire firmware, not just the kernel...
"6. flash VZW_BOA8_RETAIL_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5 Make sure it is the retail firmware and not just the kernel"
Of course, the link that is provided to said firmware does not work, and I have not been able to find a working one on the net so far. Anyone who has a link to that firmware, please share...
I got it installed and working. I am loving this new ROM!

Several people that have restored data, even in TIBU have run into problems. The suggested method is a full wipe and clean install. With that being said I resorted some data with TIBU and never had any issues.

So far it seems to be working very well for me. I only restored data from about 10-15 apps, none of which were red in TIBU. Messages, Contacts, email, etc.
So far, my phone feels much smoother than it did on 4.4.4. Battery life is good as well. I fell asleep with 55% last night, and about an hour after waking up this morning, I noticed I was at 51%. That is a marked improvement. Here is hoping that sentiment holds.

if you look at the URL for the firmware, then look at the other URLs to download files in that post it will give you the clue to fix the firmware link to make it work. TIP: add a t to the end.
