hey guys,
Going to try cm9 but I'm not sure about the battery fix zip for red lense. I know it is needed if you use a 2.3 Motorola ROM but I've used 4.5.1-134 dfp 188 and 231 without needing it (they're both 2.3.6 blur roms)
I'm using motoginger III, another blur based ROM. Do I need to flash the battery fix? I'm going to use March 30 quarx build of cm9 with GB kernel.

Hi,
i'm using March 30 Quarks and CM9 Kernel (Defy+) and needed the Battery Fix. Without the Fix it doesn't charge. Tried Walter's 4.5.2-109 DHT22 Kernel without Problems. Hope this is helpful. Sorry for my bad english
Phone: Defy (MB525) Red Lens
Try This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There Is a link inside this post in Dev section: [ICS][CM9][Froyo & GB Kernels]06 Apr Epsylon -- 08 Mar Quarx - Defy (Android 4.0.3) i dont have enough posts to give the link
It Fixed My Battery with this While i was on Quarx 30/03

what's the differences between cm7 for defy and defyplus?
Can defyplus used the defy-cm7?
that not the same battery and the kernel is adapted for that
Defy builds uses froyo kernel whereas defy + builds uses gingerbread kernel. to install defy versions on defy +, you need to install bl6 group and flash, however battery may not charge tohundred percent. The defy + builds can be used by defy red lens and regular defy +. Green lens defy will have problems with camera if we flash defy + bulls, green bread mod may work on few roms.
I'm having defy red lens and using cm72 defy + builds with Walter 4.5.3-109 kernel which gives best battery life.

which sbf you used?
I flashed the DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-132 O2.en.DE with CM7 and cannt boot up with the Walter 4.5.3-109 kernel (and any other kernel ).
I can only used the 4.5.1-134_DFP-132 kernel .
sorry for my poor english!
If you have *redlens* defy you can flash Quarx CM72 builds with walter kernel. The 4.5.3-109 kernel gives good battery life which you can use with 0316 builds. FOr ealier releases this kernel will give bootloop (this issue Quarx fixed from 0316 onwards) so you flash 4.5.2.109-dht_22 kernel.
The build can get from http://quarx2k.ru/cm7-nightly-defy+/ you can install CM9 kernel for it boot. Later you can change the kernel for better battery life.
The walter kernels are attached down - which you can flash via CWM.

Thanks!
I flashed the chinese bl=6 2.2sbf
then I can use the 4.5.3-109-11 kernel with cm7.
By the way which build is better between Quarx and Epsylon3 's.
Iam using Quarx 's 0314 now,it's great work.
And I was told that Epsylon will release the cm7 RC1 this week end.
which one would you preferred???

Well, quarx epsylon and maniac have different private builds.all of them have same base with little differences. You can use any of them, they will finalize and merge to stable when it's released.I use quarx cm72 defy + builds.

Hya, I know I am a n00b, but we all have to start . I must be doing something stoopid, as I am stuck at Motorola boot logo.
I have a defy red lenses (confirmed both visual and with log analyzer).
I have installed CM9 kernel, and I can boot latest defy+ quarx rom (30-30)no problem, but once I install 4.5.3 kernel, I am stuck at the big red M.
Also, when I boot CM9 signed kernel, returns 2.6.32.9...isn't this Froyo? Shouldn't be Gingerbread? I must be doing something obviously wrong, but I cannot find anything in the forums....
Which one is it cm9 build or cm72 build? I guess cm9 binaries not updated, anyway Try installing dht22 kernel, cm9 is GB kennel only don't get confused by looking at 2.6...

Sorry, gave for granted I was talking about CM9.
I attach screenshot of the about page with Rom, Android & Kernel detail...maybe I am searching for something that is not there (already there?), and I am already as high I can go? Thx for the help!
For the sake of updatedness, what are the best kernels for Froyo and Gingerbread?
Also, I flashed a GB kernel to try out a CM9 build. Now I want to install the official 7.2 RC. I need to flash a Froyo kernel again right?
There are no custom kernels for the defy as it has a locked bootloader, only the official signed motorola ones, the froyo which came with defy and gb which came with defy+.
For cm7 you need froyo kernel, just reflash it. Cm9 have 2 builds - one for froyo kernel and one for gb kernel. I think the green lense defys may only work with froyo kernel.

What abt the DHT kernel from Walter. I think its not ripped from defy or defy+.
It is used in Motoginger roms
Hi, sorry for my first noob question ...
Quite the same question as the original :
I found here on the github (I can't post link) that 2.2.2-177 & 2.2.2-179 have a different Kernel hashes 2.6.32.9-ga28fcc4 or 2.6.32.9-gb08c3c8.
I thought the latest CM7.2 were containing the lastest kernel id 179.
When I look at mine I have 2.6.32.9-ga28fcc4, which seems to be 177 ...
I'm actually on cm7.2 20120509-NIGHTLY-jordan, from the official nightlies ...
here (on the dowload page from Epsylon3, can't post ...) i found the 179 kernel, would it be necessary to flash it in order to have a matching kernel with the lastest nightlies ?
Only talking of froyo kernels ...

So do I think. However some people are often saying that they flashed a cm9 or whatever kernel... what do they mean by this.
P.S.: There are some attempts to boot another kernel with the help of kexec/2ndboot, but currently only with minor succes afaik.
I have a Defy, installed the 4.5.1 DHT25 rooted SBF.
Then I install CM9 using the instructions stated in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618904
When I reboot, it goes to flash rom screen, showing error:
Err: A5,70,00,00,3D
Should I install the CM9 kernel as stated?
or as I'm using the 2.3.6 Defy+ SBF, I don't need to install CM9 kernel?
Ya u should install
I think cm9 won't work with 4.5xx kernels

You are using a 2.3.6 DEFY+ SBF? It's bl6 or bl7, either way you can not flash those kernel zips, they are meant for lower bl versions. Make sure you are flashing a Gingerbread (or jordanplus or DEFY+, it's named in many ways) ROM and skip the kernel flashing step.

What the hell? See this - link. Can you see 4.5.x in the middle of the name of every of those stock sbf files? Any ROM built for Gingerbread will work with any of those kernels.
Hi,
That partially answered my query. I would welcome if you could answer my query in some detail.
On my defy with green lens I first ported original stock Froyo then installed GGL ROM. After that I installed CM9-NIGHTLY-120617-Defy.zip but did not install any kernel.zip as suggested by other forums. And then installed gapps-ics-4.0.3-20111217 and most of the things including Opera Mobile, Camera except panorama/FC on stop thereof and GPS and few apps that I use. Opera Mini is not working where I live even via 3G.
Now my question was whether any GB kernel marked for Defy (or even Defy+) work for such CM9-ICS update.
My current kernel via GGL is [email protected] #1 Wed Apr 6 15:55:29 CST 2011.
Is there any other better kernel than the above that you my suggest?
Thanks.

If you flash a Gingerbread kernel (also named CM9 kernel) your camera won't work. Green lens doesn't have compatible drivers on Gingerbread.
Why would you want Opera Mini when you have Opera Mobile working?
If you want a fully functional ROM, I suggest you switch to some of the CM7.2 builds or MIUI Pikachu Edition or WIUI GB. These are all great, stable, fast and pretty much bug-free.
As for the kernels, changing them doesn't help much in my experience, but I do know that Epsylon somehow added some libraries (thought they are onlu meant to fix wifi tethering on CM9 as far as I know) in the Froyo kernel available on his site. You could try it - http://defy.wdscript.fr/kernel/ . (This one: kernel-froyo-222-179-4-signed.zip)
I see that you used the oldest gapps possible, I'm not sure why. Get the latest zip from here (ics version is for CM9, yes) - http://goo.im/gapps/
So, what I suggest to you if you want to stick with CM9:
1 - get the latest gapps, get that kernel and you already have the latest CM9
2 - full wipe (data/cache/dalvik)
3 - install zip - kernel
4 - install zip - ROM
5 - install zip - latest gapps
6 - wipe cache and dalvik (not necessary)
7 - reboot and see how it goes
Panorama still won't work after that, that's for sure, but I don't know what other problems you've experienced....
But why doesnt it work with 4.5.x kernels?
Mine s defy ...I'm using cm9 ( defy + gb kernel build) so cm9 doesnt bootup wid those kernels...why?

I really can't figure out what you are saying. Which CM9 build are you talking about exactly? Which kernel(s?) are you talking about exacly? Would be good if you could give me the links to both, so we can resolve the confusion

its work on DEFY
im on CM9-NIGHTLY-120609-Defy+.zip and 4.5.2_DHT-22_kernel work great
but u MUST flash cm9 kernel ...reboot and 4.5.2_DHT-22_kernel...
i dont know why it happened but i forgot to do it many times and my defy cant get even to recovery
i need to flash full SBF to fix this...i hate when its happened....(i will really glad if there are other way)
i really hope for that u done backup for your apps
p.s.
u must flash DEFY+ version for GB kernel
and DEFY for Froyo kernel
Thank you niksy on your info on kernels. However CM9 works well on defy with green lens except for the panorama mode.
I found the old gapps smaller in size. However after your post I reinstalled a later one.
I prefer Opera mini as it has a smaller mem footprint. Since mini is not working here I use Boat browser mini which is quite comparable to Opera mini in speed,
However I have one issue on CM9 when I copied SIM contacts. My phone book got bloated to over 3 times the size with some of the entries duplicated from 2 to 5 times!
With MIUI/WIUI/WP7 I feel the originality of Android is lost with those boxed icons.
Besides I read in one of the posts in xda that WIUI ICS is based on CM9.
I'm on MS2Ginger 4.0 on red lens defy and was interested to move to CM7.2 with the same kernel. I came to know that Defy+ CM have gingerbread kernel. So I downloaded the Defy+ CM7.2 from http://www.defy-cm.net/defy_plus-cm7-nightly/ and tried with walter's kernel, but the phone got stuck on boot with the M logo. So I went back to ms2ginger. Today I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398031 which provides a CM7 kernel, but even after using it I got stuck on boot. Can someone recommend me how I can get the Defy+ cm7.2 on my defy. Thanks!
You can get cm72 from quarx builds which fixed this issue, there used to be a problem with 2ndint 2ndboot binary files which quarx fixed and probably eppy build is old and doesn't contain those changes.
Goto http://quarx2k.ru and navigate to cm72 and download and install. I have red lens defy on which i always prefer roms work with walters kernel 4.5.2.109_dht_22. If i remember correctly ihad run cm72 with your similar kernel

In Defy > General forum there's a thread about Quarx CM9 builds for Froyo and GB kernel. In the first post there's a patch for Defy red lens using Defy+ roms. I suggest you can try that. Did you took a nandroid backup before flashing that rom, if the patch does not work, try restoring it. I have never faced the battery issue, probably because I used Quarx's CM7 builds. Never tried Fuzz's, and now am scared to..
