Just bought the Galaxy Tab 7.7 P6810 - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

After going through many tablets and what not... I decided to go ahead and get the galaxy tab 7.7 P6810 wifi version. I was opted to get the p6800 but I don't think I could carry that around all the time so I will just tether it when I need it to my galaxy note.
I ended up selling my htc evo view, then my asus transformer prime, and now I'm returning my ipad 3. (I really couldn't tell the difference between ipad 2 and ipad 3.. I mean some apps and text was more clear but overall general use, it was the same.)
my tab 7.7 should be here today... what to do first.
So.. is p6810 same as p6800 without the 3g radio? As far as firmware and custom roms go... can you use either or? Or do you have to only used dedicated software for each device?

Firmware is NOT compatable between the two models, except for the a custom cwm recovery thats been ported over you'll find here.
Double check before flashing making sure you have the correct firmware for your model, or else you could be soft or worst case hard bricked.
Im using noob rom and works nicely, had cooked up my own but was having a few issues on implementing sone mods, so happy with this rom until ICS, whenever that comes......

[Q] Just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000

Ok i've recently bought a new samsung galaxy tab GT-P1000 in england, its unlocked to all networks, running froyo xwjj3, i absolutely love it, it meets all my needs perfectly,
now i'm fairly new to the android world, ive been a devout iphone owner for years but figured it was time for a change, i had a good understanding of the "jailbreaking" world of the iphone but i'll be honest and say the android world of ROMs totally throws me off, like for instance is there a ROM which will make tab any better or faster? themes that maybe make use of its larger screen?
basically what i'm asking for is any type of help that u think would be useful to a rookie, apps and games, anything that can make full use of my lovely new machine?
also on a side note, i have an Orange Livebox router in my house and my samsung connects with it fine only after i press the wifi button on the box and then suddenly drops the signal at any specific time, what could be the cause of this?
thanks so much for any help
Congatulations and welcome to the family
A lot of us share your love to the Tab and motivated to make it even better.
If Tab meets your current needs you might not need any modifications. The easy way is just following Samsung notifications about available updates and simply enjoy your Tab.
If you want to be on the edge of XDA development and ready to take risk of testing latest releases of firmware you need to go through reading of the Development forum.
It might be a lot of reading but it would save your from frustration when something goes wrong.
Luckly, development is in very good state right now and your can choose fast firmware that is tested enough for everyday use.
to update the tab you will need kies (which sucks)

Just read a few threads in the development section here , I was a complete novice not long ago , I now have a custom kernal + rom and my device is rooted. Some of the roms are better but jj7 is just fine - you can update officially from jj3 using kies as its genuine samsung software
For nice themes grab adw launcher from the market and then add some themes for it... google is your friend

thats the thing tho, i have been reading up and looking, from what i can gather 90% of the customs roms on the samung galaxy tab are for non UK users who want to make phone calls from there device, we can already do that in the UK so what types of ROMs are beneficial to us?
also ive heard launcher pro is better for the galaxy tab rather adw launcher, is that true?
thanks for the help by the way

I'm on this rom, I think she is less laggy than older. But for improve smoothness, I have installed another launcher.
The archive is strange, but i have root my tablet with the same rar for kh5...
My Imei doesn't change and my simlock is "safe".

Just loaded up this firmware. Looks good so far! No noticeable changes that I can see though. Took a long time to boot up the first time, but that's to be expected. Any lag and/or stuttering issues (scrolling from homescreen to homescreen, webpage zooming etc.) that I experienced in the earlier firmware still seem to be present. If there are any improvements, however slight they may be, they seem to be more of a placebo effect.

Sadly, no.
However, having said that, Tablet Talk is something that I have been using. Basically it synchronizes SMS between your phone and your tablet, so you can read and respond to your phone's SMS, but on your tablet. The Tablet even shows caller ID when your phone rings! Now if only the developer would take it one step further and allow the tablet to answer the call over speakerphone... Of course you could just answer the phone with a bluetooth earpiece anyway.
thanks... i bought the 8.9 as there are conflicting reviews that gsm voice is supported and i was hoping that it would be supported... i guess i have no choice but to sell my 8.9 when the 7.7 is released.
and hope i dont have to wait much longer... some sites indicate that 7.7 would be release in Nov and so far the sites seems to be correct on the Note and i'm hoping that they are correct with 7.7. Note is now available via online retailers.

I know how you feel. That said, especially considering how useful the Tablet Talk app is, native GSM calling abilities on the tablet are kind of a moot point for me now, (unless of course I wanted to go out with only one device).
For me, if I were to sell my 8.9 in favour of a 7.7, the biggest selling points of the 7.7 are HD SAMOLED+ screen and 1.4GHZ Exynos processor; the GSM phone abilities come as an added bonus really.
Now, as for the Galaxy Note, I'm sorta undecided on this device. I really want to like this device more, and I think it's really cool. I understand what Samsung is trying to by consolidating the functions of both phone and tablet, and for some people, this will be the perfect match. For me, I'm not so sure, and here's why:
Primarily, I'm already paying for two lines, both of which have grandfathered unlimited data, which are worth more than their weight in gold, so as long as I can hold onto that unlimited data, I'm happy to continue paying. One is data-only, and the other is data+voice. So, it makes sense that I would have two dedicated devices. Otherwise I would be just wasting the other line. This actually happened for a few months while I used the original Tab as my only device; my data-only SIM card just sat neglected and gathering dust...
My other issue with the Note is size. I have the GS2, and I can honestly say without hesitation, this is the best phone I have ever owned. I won't go into all the details why, but for the sake of this argument, the size of the GS2 is absolutely perfect! I have held the 4.5" Infuse before for comparison, and though it has only .2" over the GS2, it feels massive! I can only imagine what a 5.3" behemoth must feel like; not for me...
I already knew that the 10.1" Tab was too big for me. I had the original 7" version, and I loved that form factor. It may have felt a bit chubby compared to the 10.1 and 8.9, but for the most part it was like carrying around a small book; I liked that. Don't get me wrong though, I love the feel of the 8.9, but it doesn't have that "book feel" that the ol' 7 had...
I have a sneaky suspicion that the 7.7" - 4.3" dynamic duo will ultimately be my winning pair.
I know how you feel. I agree having a 7.7 and SGS2 would be the perfect match.
I'm having SGS2 too (for my local line) and I'm holding a BB for my foreign country work line which I'm trying to replace. I thought the 8.9 (if it had gsm voice) would be perfect. Unfortunately, it doesnt. So when I'm travelling, I'm carrying 3 devices now and trying to make it just 2 and very likely I will replace my 8.9 with 7.7 when it is launch.
ah for me the 8.9 is as small as i can go seeing as i do a lot of pdf studying on this device. 7.7 would just kill my eyes.

It seems to have all european languages, including French yes.
I don't know how easy it is to make a flashable rom from the dump, I'm not a developer.
Well, could you start a thread with your dump, maybe we'll find more help to make something flashable ?
Thx !
I'm looking for an update of my P7300XWKI1, and you've probably got it !

galaxy WiFi 10.1 Rom question

friend has a galaxy 10.1 wifi tab. No 3g service or carrier. What can you recommend for a Rom that is stable without many issues if any?
Can he flash a Rom that is made for sprint or verizon? Also, will the custom Roms for the galaxy 7 inch work?
I'm coming from thunderbolt world, so i know nothing about samsung or tabs.
thanks
The 10.1 has its own forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1050
And, no. The ROMs for the 7" will decidedly not work with the 10.1 unless you just want to brick your device.

[Q] So Many part numbers

I'm in the market for a used 7" Galaxy tab. I want to be able to flash ICS on it so naturally I looked at which devices have ICS ports already posted in the development section.
It looks like those that have ICS support also have cellular data (which I don't need.) so I started looking for used Galaxy Tabs with a cellular modem.
I found some decently priced Sprint Galaxy Tab 7" and the Tmobile Galaxy tab 7". but it looks like these are not considered to be P1000 so will they work with Cm9/ ICS?
Also, how is the GPS chip in these units? I have a Galaxy tab 8.9 and the GPS is the best I have ever seen in a tablet/phone with a full lock in under 3 seconds.
Tmobile galaxy tab 7" is SGH-T849
I am using one that I flashed with Overcome 4.1 ROM with JPZ modem and using it in Australia
It becomes exactly like a P1000. I can get 3G/HSDPA speed, I can make and receive phone calls, everything like a P1000.
thank you for the response. Have you tried cm9?
CM9 has been ported to the Sprint Tab, (in fact to the Verizon tab as well,) the kernel is not perfect at the moment, so while the Tab won't be bricked, you may experience a few more issues than if you had a GSM tab. Bear in mind, both of these are in alpha, so they have issues. As with any Alpha, Beta, or work in progress, things will not be nearly as smooth as they will be once the rom is in RC (release candidate) or final. Also, you will probably want to keep tabs, (no pun intended,) on the rom's progress and keep flashing newer versions to get enhanced functionality and stability.
Here are the two posts in the dev section about ICS on the Galaxy Tab. They are both the same rom, they are created and worked on by the same devs. They just represent different stages of development. I would suggest reading through both:
The Current Work in Progress:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385153
(This seems to be the more current build)
The Alpha 3 Version of the above ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322059
(This is updated with each new Alpha, rather than on a rolling basis like the thread above)
I've never had any trouble getting a GPS lock in my Sprint GT7, I have on occasion used it as a GPS navigator (via Google Maps Navigation,) while in rental cars. It never steered me wrong, (pun intended.)
I hope this info makes your choice easier. Good Luck!
Thank you. Lots of good information.
If you haven't bought one, and don't mind paying a little bit more, I think you should get the GSM version (usually the T-mobile one is a bit cheaper?).
You see there are a lot more custom ROMs on GSM than CDMA, so more choices.
I think mainly because GSM is widely deployed worldwide, so we get more devs participating in that hardware.
I haven't used CM9 on my T-mobile tab, but I am 100% sure it will work. Just haven't taken the plunge.
Yeah, I'm trying to find the GSM version but the cheapest I've seen is $275 used.
The Sprint version is readily available for around $200.
This is going to replace my Pioneer navigation unit in my car so audio out via the dock is important. It will connect to a 4 channel amp. Reliable GPS is a must.
I have an 8.9" Galaxy tab which I love but it's too big and expensive to put in the dash permanently and there is no easy way to make it removable at that size while still making it look decent.
A 7" original galaxy tab is the perfect fit. Even the 7.0 plus is slightly too big.
Anyway, I'll keep looking for a cheap SGH-T849, one is bound to pop up at some point.

How do I get ICS on here

Hello
I just bought a 7.7 on Verizon. Primarily for SD Card & LTE. But I have major issues with lag on my training videos. I think if I upgrade to ICS this might help. I know Verizon is not releasing anytime soon....
Any suggestions? I Have been searching for 2 days now and just really confused. I really dont want to return this thing. I also bought a Nexus 7 and have had no issues with lag but the 7.7 is so much nicer (expect the lag)
thanks
Do visit this site and find P6800 ROM http://www.filefactory.com/f/16e5683c3e667a17[
For ICS, download XXLQ2 ROM. (Latest)
Happy flashing!

You have a Verizon tab. It's a different model, with different hardware. The 6800/6810 firmwares will not work for you. In fact, they will probably brick your device. Do NOT Download any file for the international, GT-P6800/GT-P6810!!!
Over at the development forum, you will find CM9/CM10. Those are independent from Samsung/Verizon, based on Google's ICS/JB code. They are currently the only choice of ICS+ for the Verizon model.

phew..thanks...I was just about to...I am returning this thing and will wait until they update it...thanks everyone
You can use iocerra's cm9 and cm10 builds for ics and jb, but they don't have lte so that might be a deal breaker. Or you can root, install titanium backup and freeze/remove some apps to see if you can reduce lag. Or you can wait. All good options, depending on what you want / need.
