Hi all,
I have tried several add-ons to improve my Cingular 8125's contact management capabilities. Here are a few:
- mNotes to sync with Lotus Notes (didn't work, removed it)
- Inesoft Addressbook (wanted bigger contact pics)
- PhotoContacts (wanted bigger contact pics)
- finchSynch (for Thunderbird integration)
- couple other things, forgot...
I'm still not entirely satisfied, but it's better than before. THe one thing that is really messing me up right now is that I think I have a problem with my contacts database. When the PDA soft boots up, it gives me this error "Error: open database failed - contacts database". I click ok and go on. I'm still able to browse my contact list and contact people on it. But when I edit a contact and press ok, the phone locks up. It ends up automatically soft booting. This has happened with Inesoft as well as PhotoContacts.
So I'm wondering:
1) What is the underlying problem? My best guess is somehow a messed up contacts db
2) What can I do to fix it? Assuming it's a db problem, any way to rebuild?
3) Has anyone seen a problem like this?
Thanks!
Sorry to hear of your problem. Is you phone synced with outlook on your pc? - if so you should be able to restore from there. Your contacts\appts are kept in a file on the root directory of your device called pim.vol. Copy that to your storage card or desktop then rename the original - say to pim.vo and then try to restore from outlook.
Have fun
Hi,
I have a Sony K750i and I want to import my contacts into my new phone, VPA 1605/Compact III.
The problem I face is that when I transfer from my contacts on my sim (using the VPA's built in sim manger) it creates the contacts as single entries into my contact list, for all the different classes of contacts. IE Mobile/Home/Office etc etc.
It lists my contacts as:
Mr XYZ/m
Mr XYZ/h
Mr XYZ/o
This is a pain and not much use to me.
I can however beam my contacts one by one using Infrared. It transfers the contact as a .vcf and retains the format. But that's real slow when you have lots of contacts.
I also tried bluetooth and could not transfer contacts from K750i>VPA, but could transfer contacts from VPA>K750i. hmmm? Weird! Is there a problem with bluetooth when transfering contacts?
Surely there must be a way of transfering my contacts into the VPA and keep the correct format?
Does anyone else have this problem?
What about a third party phone manager that sits on a PC and can transfer contacts?
I'm at a loss on this one.
TIA
Try Mobile Master Professional, www.mobile-master.com. It can sync the K750i with Outlook and then you can sync Outlook with your Pocket PC.
i copied all my contacts from k750i as vcf files (using fma phone manager software) then added all contacts into a zip file, sent zip file to tytn, unzipped file on tytn and saved to contacts.
that way you can get all of your contacts across in one go! simple!
hope it helps!
Thank You
Thank you for your help.
I can't find the Contacts folder on the VPA Phone.
Using the inbuilt file manager.
TIA
not sure about your phone, but on the tytn it asks if you want to save to contacts when you unzip...
Database
Hmm I get the picture..now! lol
But how do I get rid of the contacts I don't want that was created by the importing of the sim.
Apart from deleting them one at time.
I have found a couple of database editors, but can't find one for WM5
Grrrrrrrrr
EDIT - SOLUTION!
delete the pim.vol at the root and soft reset your phone. This creates a blank contacts database file. Pim.vol also stores your Appointments, so if you delete it you will loose those as well.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks to all that helped.

Click to collapse
it need to click on every VCF file - in a case of hundrets of contacts this would be inconvenient.
but I have found solution to synchronize W800i / K750i / D750i into Windows Mobile on Pocket PC without using Outlook, little tricky but working:
1. export Phone Book with free software MyPhoneExplorer to one CSV file
2. change header (first line) of CSV from:
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile","Home","Work","Fax","Other","Street","Postcode","City","State","Country","Info","E-mail","Web","Company","Birthday"
to
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile Phone","Home Phone","Business Phone","Business Fax","Home Phone 2","Home Street","Home Postal Code","Home City","Home State","Home Country","Notes","E-mail Address","Web Page","Company","Birthday"
3. rename changed CSV file to: contacts_20081003.csc (date is unimportant, but you must retain format: contacts_RRRRMMDD.csc)
4. pack it with zero compression to ZIP format
5. change ZIP's extension to *.PIB
6. download free PIM Backup 2.8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
7. run this PIM Backup from PDA, select "Restore" and select created *.pib file
8. in CSV import settings set "," as delimiter and additionaly map "Last name" to "Name"
should work
Doesn't work for me!
Hi,
I tried tester2's method on my HTC Touch diamond 2, it seems very logical but the HTC doen't seem to comply with it; I get a lot of posts with no names! So when I open any of the posts it has a phone number etc, but I cant get the name part to work. It seems the mapping doesnt work correctly althought i did map "Name" to "Last Name".
Any ideas?
Thanx, N/
Hi all,
When I choose [people] then [Add favorite], in which map and file(s) does the HD2 put this stuff ? (XannyTech ROM V1.3)
It doesnt put it in a file, it adds meta data to the 'notes' field of that contact.
For example, if you have outlook on your PC, add someone as a favourite, then open their contact card on the PC and in teh notes field you will see something like
<HTCData><!-- Please do not modify -->
<Favorite>actionid:CallWork</Favorite>
</HTCData>
If that person is a favourite and also a facebook contact you will see
<HTCData><!-- Please do not modify -->
<Favorite>actionid:CallWork</Favorite>
<Facebook>id:#########/friendof:#########</Facebook>
</HTCData>
That is why favourites and facebook linked people persist after hard reset, so long as they are synced.
Thanks Sam !
So can I extract and restore this favorite data (incl. photo) from a stored SPB
backup ?
You dont even need to extract that data. So long as you have backed up the contact list, as soon as you restore it you should find the favourite people tabs automatically filled, and as soon as you connect the 'me' contact card with your facebook account, all your contacts that are linked to facebook contacts will get teh facebook contact image and access to the albums and such like.
Oh one thing I missed out, the favourites are added to a contact category of 'HTC favourite'
I'm not sure exactly how it knows which contact to put on which shortcut, but ive flashed new roms four or five times, with another two or three hard resets, and each time as soon as i sync outlook the people favourite shortcuts are there again.
OK fixed with 1 more little step for each favorite ..then all is allright !
Thanks !
after the update to android 2.1 the following problem occured:
when i search for a contact through the google search widget, touching the resulted contact leads me to another (different) one
i.e. searching for a contact beggining with letter "A" leads me to a totally different contact
i've already tried the following:
1) clear contacts storage & google search storage through application manager
2) tried several key combinations
3) reset to factory defaults
anyone else have that problem?
p.s. contact search through native contacts app, works fine
I am a CyanogenMod 7 user, and I manage well all along.
I cannot find sleek solutions to few problems, so decided to ask -
EDIT: it seems send via bluetooth is inactive for some files in File Expert, my mistake.
2) A contacts app that allows me to add birthday to contact - I dont want a reminder or something, I got my phone synced with birthday cal already. Most apps will open the default edit contact dialog when it comes to that. The less FB and twitter integration, the better - I'd gladly take the HTC contact app or something similar if there is any chance
Contact Editor adds it, free on the market.
3) Send/receive vCard added option - I use go sms. Handycent sms has it embedded , but it does not support well Cyrillic contacts and most of mine are Cyrillic, so it is a must.
I know I can get all three if I go with Sense ROM, but this will eat a lot of space, so this is las resort.
Thank you
