When I made the Vibrant bible about a year ago, I was constantly updating the Roms, Kernels, Modems, Mods and tweaks. But when I would stop and update the themes people would complain that I wasn't updating the more important stuff. So eventually I stopped the updating of the Themes.
So basically themes are just way too much to keep up with on the bible. They are over 100 Roms and tons of Themes for each. Very very hard to do this. Not something I would be able to do by myself
Serendipityguy has a kernel bible going already and he is doing a good job maintaining it. We could use a ROM one for sure but many of the older ROMs are no longer being supported. I liked and used your old bible when I first got here. Was a big help to me.
ps What's the scoop with your new handle? Getting a fresh start?

Yes I will be starting it from scratch again soon hopefully. I will have a couple more hands doing it with me too, so I can as well focus on my life. Before I had nothing but time, now its a little different. Sorry I cut out for so long I was kept busy building my new data servers to offer androidians and developers cheap website hosting. But since that is up and running good now, I can get started back on this without a problem

Agreed, I have seen some misplaced questions around the forums. It would be efficient, and VERY appreciated if everything was in one place again.
Id use it and it would be a big help to new users, IF THEY WOULD READ BEFORE POSTING, you can find answers to 99% of your questions if you search or use the avaliable guides, my 2 cents. ooops, inflation, my nickel.
Bible was very useful when it was being updated.

Thanks for the complement Woodrube, and about the Vibrant Bible - Reference is always good to have - they are just like options, the more you have the better off you are.
I can see that maintaining a bible thread does take a lot of work, mucho trabajar!
I would love to see the vibrant thread started back up, initially that thread inspired me but once I saw the work load maintaining it, I scaled back to kernels.
I do agree, with everyone one here & I too would love to see this thread pick up. More and more users are coming to XDA for solutions because they can not get this type of reference from the other portal sites and the qualities of posting, feedback and content here at XDA is second to none.
Once 2.3 Upgrade Officially drops for the Samsung Vibrant - there will even be more of a demand for the bibles.
HECK YEAH!!!!
I would definitely appreciate it being present again. I wouldn't have survived my first round of soft bricking my phone without it....
Absolutely!!
Perfect kernel for cm7?
Why do alerts make a grey backlight with buttons lit?
Why won't my ics flash properly? Cashes immediately upon beginning flash in cwm...

If you would be so kind as to bring back the VB, I will attempt to get you anointed as the god of Vibrant. Well, its only fair, you wrote the vibrant bible.
When I first started flashing roms the Bible was super useful, directing me to the best roms and noob guides. Even now I don't check the forums for a couple weeks and have to skim the first few pages of the dev section to see if there are any hidden gems I missed. My contract isn't up for months, and even if I get a new phone once it is up I'll keep playing with the new roms for vibrant as long as the devs keep making em.

On a related note to the longevity of the vibrant, my wife's dropped in some water a few days ago. We turned it off, threw it in rice, and let it sit for almost a day. I turned it back on and everything was good except the home button would trigger every few seconds, making the phone pretty much unusable. We resigned ourselves to the fact we'd have to drop the money to replace it through insurance and I turned it back on to return it to stock, and it was fine. Absolutely fine. I have a feeling there will still be plenty of these phones still ticking a year from now.

If that ever happens again, take out the battery, the back cover, and drop it in a glass of rubbing alcohol...
leave it over night so as to extract all the water from it..
Then, take it out and dry it nicely.
You will want to disassemble it with a tiny tools, make sure as to get every crevice..
After this, it should be fine also..
S little more involved, but almost guaranteed to clear it up.
The most damage is caused when the battery is in, and the water creates a short between circuits.. Possibly killing them.
Battery out, first thing if you every get your phone wet.

Our cousin from a slightly different mother launchers in a matter of a week or so. It will be interesting to see what this launchers with (2.2, Bing, etc).
This could possibly fall in line with the supposed Galaxy S 2.2 roll out over the month. It will also be interesting to see how the secondary display instead of soft keys plays out.
http://i.engadget.com/2010/11/02/full-samsung-continuum-specs-leak-out-in-verizon-comparison-char/
This thing is kind of ridiculous. It seems to literally be the same device as the fascinate, but with an added 96x480 ticker. I could see how that would be useful, but the thing just looks silly. If that spec sheet is to be believed, it's launching with 2.1 which essentially guarantees bing as the integrated search engine.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I remember reading somewhere recently that the Continuum would only have a 3.4 inch screen, not 4 inches like ours. I'm sure that was done to make room for the smaller screen without making the phone too big to handle. I dunno about you, but I'd take the 4 inch screen over a smaller one with a ticker screen any day.

Right now I wouldn't change my Fascinate for any phone on any network. I love this phone. I do want 2.2 though lol

Definitely Agree'd!!
Samsung wanted to make sure to compete with itself, just in case anyone was thinking twice about buying an iPhone.
it has a smaller screen and still has 2.1 + bing, so i don't see the draw as the ticker, while a neat idea, duplicates the function of the notification bar, and seems pointless (to me at least)
plus in some of the early videos, it seemed like a fatter phone.
from what's known to be in the pipeline on verizon for the rest of the 2nd generation android phones, i don't see anything enticing.
The only phone that can tempt me away from this is a 4g LTE phone, hopefully it will come next year.

Idk, I moved from an htc desire running cyanogen 6.1 (froyo 2.2) to a samsung mesmerize running 2.1 and there are definitely things I miss about froyo. One of the biggest is chrome-to-phone but there are also many small ui improvements that I miss. The hardware on the Mesmerize/Fascinate more than makes the switch worth it though

This stuff really clutters up the development forum on XDA. Post this in general. This is why most of our devs are now releasing things on other websites FYI. So please, keep it in general or even just the android section. And to say its fascinate related because you wonder what it will do to the development of our phone is complete crap. I could literally relate my last crap I took to the development of this phone if I really wanted to. Kthanxbai

otherwise, just go to rootzwiki and use the adb method. i did that on a buddy's continuum, and that worked just fine too.

Hi my name is 12paq.
I have been modding hard since my Pocket PC days. I have increased to 8-10 hours a day since getting my Vibrant and trying flashing for the first time. Don't blame Odin or Rom Manager, they are just delivery devices.
My wife has left me, my daughter won't talk to me and my dog left me for another dude. (Sounds like all Country music).

Faster maybe, but not as stable. Anytime I check a rom thread people are asking for help, that crap has helped me stay on the wagon. Hate too pull you off the wagon but T-Moble and Sammy aren't known for their well vetted bug free updates. The ones on XDA seem better supported. Many fans here of many Froyo updates. Just wait and don't be the first to try the first version unless you want to play beta tester, a good cause too.
I'm using Tmo stock 2.2 fro Eugene with Klang kernel and it rocks with far less bugs then any crud official. You see the complaints here way more then the successes.
Come on... try it... I dare ya... just once you'll like it...
This **** spreads too. I got one of my friends hooked on flashing custom roms to his old WinMo phone and he's now followed my footsteps and picked up a Vibrant because of how much he loves to play with the new roms I flash every week. I have another friend who's on AT&T who has been following the Captivate forum so he is now wanting to get one so that he can try the xda drug for himself. Haha!

Thanks for the laughs!
We probably scared some people too, snicker snicker...
I have had the vibrant for a couple of months now, and I must say I am very dissapointed.
I had the chance to try my friends' evo and another friends mytouch 4g and I must say these phones are about 10 times better rhan the vibrant...
No lag, gps works amazingly fast and accurate 9.8 ft accurancy indoors on the evo with 8 sats locked. These phones just work right out of the box. The vibrant is a hyped up phone with very little usability because most times I need something really quick the phone decides to crawl and doesn't respond. Build quality is also better on the mentioned phones. Even my other friends htc aria performs faster and better in every aspect and that on 2.1...
Hopefully someone will solve these issues at some point cause it seems to me it is all software related cause on the spec sheet the vibrant looks to be a great device but in real life it is just a lot of frustration...
This is definitely my last Samsung phone and as soon as I get my hands on a used mytouch 4g I will gladly get rid of the vibrant.

Now lets be nice. We havent a reason to be rude. He is unhappy and has a right to be. We dont have to respond to the thread.
I am for one happy with my phone. Gps works! awesome software by teamwhiskey!
Great glasstopia them by mwbehr. Fantastic kernel by the man himself eugene373.
I already learned I dont need samsungs support. Maybe we can help him learn that also.
Well what a friendly community this is...
I felt like venting because using this phone is frustrating. I posted in the general section so if that was wrong let the mods take care of it but don't act like an idiot.
My vibrant is rooted and on official ka6. Rooting has nothing to do with the performance of the device.
Besides a phone should work the right way out of the box without any modification. If you say you are happy then good for you, but you might want to try using other phones and you will clearly see the difference...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I didnt mean to come off rude, I was giving you the solution man.
I have MANY phones. Rooting doesnt help the performance... but apps that need root access do. And yes, voodoo (converting the file system to EXT 4) WILL fix your complaint.
Hazzard99 thank you for the reply. You are absolutely right and that is why I said it must all be software related since the hardware seems like it is supposed to beat pretty much any device out there.
I am fine with rooting and I did it, I just do not feel comfortable to flash any custom firmware yet...

I'm sorry, aren't a ton of the threads in this forum dedicated to people's complaints with sammy/tmo/vibrant? Not a whole lot of us are satisfied with the Vibrant stock. Maybe we can educate him just how simple it is to root this device and put it's fantastic hardware to use.

I understand that the stock version of the phone is truly laggy, and the gps is not that great. But they are many roms or "custom firmwares" that u can flash. They will make ur phone nearly 100x better. Flashing is defnitely worth it. If ur brave enough, you can even add on the ffc.
Dont be scared you dont have to do much but flash the rom of your choice and read up on it a bit.
One of the little pleasures of life Is taking pride in the things that we do for ourselves. I am very grateful for the community everytime I meet someone who has a certain phone and hates it. I let them know that the phone isnt that bad.
Oh and btw I run bionix v and I can underclock to 800mhz and be happy as a pig in poop.

I currently have the Original Droid, which has been a great phone in terms of what you have been able to do to it and it's reliability. My question is; how do the owners of the Epic feel about their phone? Still happy with it? Like the roms that have come out for it? And since I haven't paid much attention to Sprint, up until now, any other phones down the line I should think about? My contract with Verizon is up in 3 months.
Yes if you like a hardware keyboard then get the Epic it's a great phone you won't be dissapointed
If you like running the latest and Greatest software then the Nexus S will be out for sprint in like a month.
If you want a powerhouse of a phone then the Evo3D should be out by June following what they did with the original Evo

If you want a powerhouse of a phone then the Evo3D should be out by June following what they did with the original Evo

I never buy phones on contract, and swapped from an iPhone to a Moto Droid in May of last year. Loved the Android platform, since I'm a programmer and super-user -- not a dumb user, the way the iPhone continued to fail.
I switched to the Epic 4G around October of that year (bought off-contract as well, ESN was clear, but ended up still being attached to an account... got scammed and ported it to Cricket myself). Love the keyboard. Love the screen. Not a bad phone at all. I wouldn't buy it on contract, though, since the new phones are coming out. But in my mind, the Epic is a definite upgrade from the Droid, albeit still not quite as flexible as the original Droid was in terms of development and ROMs (was on Sapphire with Droid -- tried pretty much all the different ROMs for Epic and they're nice, but not as nice as something mostly AOSP, i.e. CM7 or Sapphire). Waiting patiently for Epic's CM7 to be mostly stable so I can try to ROM with that -- having very high hopes for it.
So in a nutshell, yes, great phone. But, the only issue is that the phone will be outdated rather quick, though I don't think we're going to see another contender with a decent keyboard for a while with dual-core processors, etc (re: I'm guessing a year). No comment on Sprint service, but double check with reviews in your area to see how coverage, etc, is before making the jump.

I would stay away from this phone if I were you. The roms I've tried are all pretty good, but never perfect for me. I can tell you the current stock rom is still sub par. I would get the HTC if I you. I know people on here will tell you it's not a good of a phone, but I can tell you it works a hell of a lot better. If you really want this phone I will trade you mine + I'll give you $100 if you get the evo and trade me. I'm trying to sell mine now! my phones of on really good shape, no damage to it at all. If you're interested or anyone else, pm me! But to be honest this phone is not really worth it.

DON'T LISTEN TO THIS GUY. His intelligence is showing with trying to trade you for a lesser quality phone. The evo shift does not have an amoled screen or the gpu power the epic has. This phone is amazing and will be amazing for atleast 2 years. This phone will hold up to the dual cores of this year hands down. I've been with sprint for 9 years and they keep getting better. Development could be stronger but we have gotten EVERYTHING WE NEEDED FROM OUR DEVS HERE. CM7 is in progress and there is a stable alpha.

It's a great phone now. Got mine for the second time on friday and updated that evening ota. I also have a Evo and Evo shift and had the dual core Atrix(hype at this point imho).
The Epic is my favorite although i do prefer the keyboard on the Evo shift cause its smaller which is odd but rue

Well maybe you like having to spend a million hours to get the phone to work, but for me, not really. It's almost a full time job trying to get this thing to work right! I agree the hardware is great, but not worth the fight to make it work right. I've spent hours flashing this thing since the new update and I will tell you I still have problems with this phone. If you would like me to list all the problems with my phone I would be happy to do so!

YOU have issues, the vast majority of people are capable of flashing a ROM correctly and troubleshooting any problems they might have, don't dissuade someone from purchasing a phone they want because YOU have problems using it correctly.
I really do like my phone and the ROMs are smoke'n.
They have been having a bit of an issue releasing Froyo that doesn't have some level of suckage.
We're expecting a 3rd try this week.
What balances that are the AWESOME devs for it; they popout an updated ROM with the latest update in no time at all.
Everyone is spot on in regards to hardware keyboard, I find myself (I HAD to have a real keyboard) actually using the swype keyboard way more than the physical one. Go figure.
Some GPS issues; though each update makes it a bit better.
There is a reason that this phone is the #1 selling PDA phone.
Having all said that, in a few months there will be some really powerful stuff that will just blow the doors off anything currently available. If I were in your position. I'd go for a multi-processor phone.
Good luck
I say get an evo.
Theres a whole lot more going on with the evo development that its a much more flexible phone.
Our phone has a lot of potential, but with a fracyion of evo/droid devs its harder for the epic to get there.

Check out the hardware keyboard fix from mkasick - it's implemented in SRF 1.1.0 and its accompanying kernel, Twilight Zone 1.1.0. If you don't want to leave your current ROM, give Twilight Zone a try. The fix is an adjustable one - so you can set the value as low as you want. That should completely eliminate any issues you're having.

These forums speak for them selves. You don't see half the problems in the HTC forums. Also if you have BOTH phones you would know how many more problems there are on this phone. I would wait for the nexus s if you want a sammy. I would not choose this phone again if I had it to do over.

I do have both, and have had few issued with either, I made the choice to stick with the Epic as my daily driver because its a much nice phone hardware wise and significantly lighter. I find it difficult to believe you would have any of the issues you're having if you properly flashed it.

I can't even tell you how many times I've flashed this phone trying to get an optimal set up. I have found that over all I've had less problems with the stock rom, but it is still a lot more buggy than the evo. I would just give this phone to my girlfriend and take her evo, but I don't think she would know what to do if the phone went haywire on her. Hers is stock and I've had far less issues with it than this phone. The only times I had any real issues with her evo is when I tried to mess with it. Trust me man, I thought I was the one screwing up this phone, that's why I'm trying out the stock hardware! All I'm saying there are a lot more issues. Trust me I bought this phone for the same reasons as everyone else! I'm just getting sick and tired of having to Odin the damn thing everyone 3 to 4 weeks! I thought a program may have been causing it, so now I'm trying stock ROM EC and I've only rooted it. I've downloaded XDA, Poynt, Blow up, and the Chase apps. These are the only apps I have on here now, so I was hoping that it was maybe an app causing my problems. Today I had my first problem since going to my current set up. I've been talking about it in this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12464672#post12464672. I'm hoping that it's something that I just needed to reboot my phone. The only other thing I can think that made my phone go black screen is when I use the media player and play videos. I'm hoping it's not one of the apps, but I haven't been able to replicate the problem today. I'm just saying that my girl doesn't have any of these issues with the evo and right now I'm basically on the edge with this phone!!!! I also don't want to shell out a bunch more money for a phone so I just kind of have to deal with it and hope I can find a solution, but I would not recommend this phone to anyone after what I've been through! The Nexus S may be a different story since it's stock, but not this phone!

I'm not gonna say that flashing isn't a complicated thing. But that's your choice and if you really want to experience amazing ui then it takes time of the individual to figure how and what they can and can not do. That's why there is 1 click root. Flashing is not meant for everyone so if you don't have the time that's cool but don't blame the phone for your short comings either in time or intelligence or pesistence.

Trust me I've flashed this phone many times. I'm sorry to tell you that when you flash Roms and kernels there are still going to be some problems. I realise that you may want to flash Roms and kernels to make the phone run a certain way, otherwise there wouldn't be multiple roms or kernels to flash if everything worked perfect with one. You're showing your ignorance if you think that a flashed rom and/or kernel is going to be problem free. There's a reason why there are constant updates to the roms and kernels.
I'm just tired of doing it and you should be able to use the phone, without it crashing, without having to mess with it. I don't think it's too much to ask for the phone to not crash when it's stock. Maybe I need to go to full stock with out root. Maybe that's what's causing the phone to mess up. That's my next option!
Edit: I wish I could see other things you've bought. Just curious what type of repairs you had to do to them...
Not sure why you would expect something to NOT work correctly out of the box? You make a valid point it shouldn't work correctly stock..........

Whatever you do, do NOT get the Epic. Even if it's free. The keyboard TO THIS DAY does not work properly. It still misses keys and it's not layed out all that well either. I came from a g1 that had a keyboard that ACTUALLY registered keys, even if you type faster than my grandma. Please do not get the epic, get the evo shift or wait for something else on Verizon.

Don’t get me wrong, Im the happy beneficiary of rooted stock. And for the folks that are all about the phone geek thing knock urselves out, Im enjoyin the reads. But let's be honest,GB isn't a warm fuzzy balance of enhancements for time invested.
After couple of functionality tweeks like rooting for bloat reduction, Froyo is highly functional and solid. I personally have a limited amount of free time...which incidentally is maximized by my highly feature-laden rock solid DX...and while Iapplaud u bleeding edge cowboys, I'm gonna stay put...til Moto releases GB and somebody here gets it rooted.

Technically with the locked bootloader everybody is running a Motorola released version. This new version of gb that was released was by an ota to a few phones. While not a full fledged update to gb it is very stable and reliable. I have been on it and have zero problems. All of my apps appeared. And no bootloops. The directions for everything that needs to be done are very well done and there is almost a zero percent chance of truly bricking your phone. And with sbf'ing and everything I had to do to get to gb it only took me about fifteen total minutes to get there. Enjoy your stable Froyo and popcorn and I will enjoy my stable Gingerbread.

What's the point? Why do you do things that you do? It's simply because this is a development forum for people who enjoy this stuff. We enjoy flashing things and learning all we can about this stuff. It is fun for us. The reason people have issues is almost 100% user error. That means that they forgot to do something. Or didn't fully download a file. Or did something in the wrong order. There's almost never a problem with the software provided to us. The files work, people just make mistakes

+1. With the locked bootloader and no way for people to try to flash the radio or kernel. It has made this phone nearly impossible to hard brick. I only know of one. Every other person has worked through there problems by the helpful people and guides on this and other forums. You stick around here long enough and you will be eating gingerbread instead of popcorn.
Edit: I should say no way to flash a custom kernel or custom radio.

While I share the philosophy of the OP (waiting for OTA and z4root-esque rooting), I don't agree that anyone should avoid applying GB. I did that sort of thing with my WinMo phone and if I felt the need to GB now, I absolutely would with no worries about the quality of the rom.
And with the potential for a long break without being rooted, I may just do that. I'm not up to speed with a lot of this, but will a root for the OTA be possible and will it take some time? I needs my AdFree, Tether and CacheCleaner.
I'm not trying to go against the tone of the thread here by saying this, but I have Gingerbread and am really not looking back. Stock Froyo was boring, everyone will agree with that. From there you had either ApeX or rubiX (or later Liberty). I ran all three actually and settled between Apex and rubiX Focused. Apex is/was good for battery life and overall stability. rubiX Focused is/was good for speed and stability, battery life was a bit less than Apex. But to me Gingerbread is the best of both worlds. 30-40 hour battery life PLUS the much improved (for most) Quadrant scores and overall speed and snappiness is like rubiX + ApeX. (video here)
I guess all I'm trying to say is that *when done properly*, if you flash from your favorite ROM to Gingerbread it's completely doable without any hitches or hangups. The thing to remember here is this: you're going from your favorite build/ROM/setup to something completely foreign. When I first flashed 2.3 (the most recent OTA, deodexed & rooted) there were some things I complained about. Then, with time and just playing around with it, I figured them out. I think most people are "having issues" with it because it's really that much of a change. It's not the jump from 2.2 to 2.2.1. It's a whole new setup, interface and all. I think it's the process that scares people, and that's understandable, but just remember.. it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to brick your phone. With SBF, you'd almost have to be trying to mess things ups. Find a decent guide and give it a shot. You can always flash back to your current setup.

Just a heads up, be careful with Wireless Tether on 2.3.. or even 2.2 if you're going over 5GB. People are saying that's being watched now.
I didn't really say "what's the point", I said the reward for time spent seemed dubious.....and I said I applaud the efforts and am the beneficiary of them. But damn there's lotta varying degrees of success. Part of my trouble is my PC's incompatibilty with the DX drivers that prevents me from sbfing....which seems like the safety net.
Buy beyond that I haven't read anything that puts GB so very much up the foodchain from froyo ....boring? Froyo is boring compared to GB how?
And zippy? My DX is very zippy...
Maybe Im not running enough stuff ;-)
I have to say, extended battery life has my eyebrow raised...that'd be welcome.
To be honest I was thinkin about loading the dx drivers on the DAW side of my dual boot XP box...down side is that boot is offline with no antivirus etc to maximize the resources for the studio ....don't wanna **** up a well-oiled machine....which brings me back to sittin in my chaise lounge on the sideline til GB is as easy as rooting &deodexing was.
Thx for the civil discourse.

I am definitely getting better battery life. The other day I calibrated my battery and had to wait for 1 day 13 hours and change before the thing finally died. Also if the drivers aren't working for you try this. http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html
just put it on a cd and go. It is linux. I haven't used it since my windows 7 64 bit system did the job for me just fine, but I have heard a really good response with this. Also, if you have any questions about it the guy is really good at answering them.
Since you are on stock....you are really in the perfect position to upgrade to gb the easiest. Root, Droid 2 Bootstrap, wipe, run the 3 files from tbh, wipe, and reboot. Off you go.
Just to note TBH has put out a rooted version of the GB leak....
I have blur_version.23588.p1 p2. And p3 plus the droid 2 bootstrap. So ur sayin I'm good to go from 2.2 rooted stock froyo up to GB without needing any sbf connection to my PC, right?
This is a good time for me to phuck around w the phone cuz Im off this week.
Couple of last questions :
I bought power amp...am I gonna lose it?
Does the camera settings issue mentioned recently apply to me on this load?
What does OTA stand for?
Can I get back to froyo 2.2 without sbf?
How many pecks in aa bushel?
Thx

1. No it will redownload after you flash
2. Yes. No idea why or how to fix
3. Over-the-air. It is an update sent directly to your phone from Verizon.
4. No. But SBF'ing is not difficult at all, it's just the idea that scares people and that people make stupid mistakes
5. I think two, or four maybe. But that is completely unrelated. Look it up

Got an abort on the first file. (Good place to get one I guess). These files were downloaded to the wifey's laptop and copied over.
One distinction ...instructions here included "wipe", but the instructions from the modderX site did not mention wipe.
Furthermore there are 2 wipes .... I tried wiping the cache...no joy. The other wipe looked too scary..sumpin about reset factory blah blah blah.....
Its good to be on vacation.
