So i was doing a final check before i go ahead and unlock bootloader and start flashing since unlocking voids your warranty with google.
upon inspections, i found out that when i PUSH on the lower left corner on the phone, it creaks PRETTY loudly, it almost sounded like im clicking on my mouse....
Anyone else got this!??!?!
look at the frame of your phone. mine wasn't flush where the chrome and rubber frames met, and had to rma it
no, everything look uniform. Same color and all. it just clicks when i push out.
Also not when i plug in my charger and wiggle it a bit. it makes some noise....i know its not my charging cord cuz i use like 3 different ones.
Thanks,
You can relock the bootloader that's a non issue. I have the creaking clicking sound too but on the left side above the volume rocker. I was going to exchange it but went to the T-Mobile store and the sales reps N4 and the display unit do the same thing. No unevenness in the bezel to case on any of them either. I decided there are worse problems in the world.

i dont have this issue, phone really feel solid!
Have the same thing on the left side of the USB port looks flush but I can push it in a little and it makes a noise doesn't seem to be doing any hard and it doesn't look off so I'm fine with it

I have the same creaking in the bottom left corner, right below the speaker. It creaks if I squeeze the two ends of the glass, or if I squeeze the bezel in that area. I'm slightly nervous that this may contribute to the back glass cracking, but I think that's probably being overly paranoid. I actually ordered a torx T5 screwdriver to see if loosening and tightening the screw in that area makes a difference. I'll post back here once I get the screwdriver and try it out.

Please do. I'm a sufferer as well and just thought a few minutes ago if tightening the screws could help. Because if that's all it is, then... BALLIN'.
But seriously, even if it doesn't help, I think I'll be able to live with it. I mean I don't normally squeeze the bottom of the phone like that.
Patently waiting for a reply
I should have the screwdriver by Wednesday, according to USPS. I will update everyone once I get it.

I have tried the Torx screwdriver for this issue. It doesn't do anything. My first Nexus was really bad with this problem, picking it up would cause a creak...you could even push the bezel at the bottom left corner and it would feel "mushy", as there was some slight give. I got an RMA and the replacement unit arrived yesterday. Same issue, but not as bad as the first one...there's no give on the bezel, but squeezing that left corner can produce a creak. Looking at the teardown on iFixit, I don't see what would cause this other than glue from the back or pressure on the speaker unit.
oh damn, that issue is worst than mines. Good luck on it bro
mines is just pushing in on the corner...i can pretty much live with it since i have my bumper on 24/7 but im thinking about getting a rma.
what do you guys think? rma or no?

If that's the only issue, and it's not that bad, I wouldn't rma it. The chances of getting one with something else wrong make it not worth it in my view.

yea, besides the corner issue, i have the buzzing from the earpiece as well..but other than that. everything else is perfect.
thanks
The creaking in the lower left of my N4 seems to have gotten worse. It's not a huge deal, especially since I normally keep my N4 in a TPU case, but it is annoying. Anyone else notice the same thing? I'm tempted to put a very small amount of crazy glue near where the glass and plastic meet in that corner (ever since a tiny amount of crazy glue completely fixed the screen lift problem with my N7, it's been on my mind for various fixes).
I have the same thing on the upper left corner just above the volume button. Again this is on the plastic surround. If I hold in landscape for example the area my left thumb goes lands right there and it creaks hell. However it won't do it again unless I press slightly on the glass in the same area and it clicks.
These all sound like clips or something not clicking into place.
My volume rocker was loose from day one, now the power button is getting loose the more I use it.
Poor BQ IMO.

Haha. Don't go too crazy. The creaking, at least in my case, is a minor annoyance. It's not a big deal. I've learned a long time ago that there's no such thing as a perfect phone.

Hey Guys i recently dropped my device into some water, no biggie device still worked and everything, but it was an excuse to get a device with slightly better Bin, so i filed a insurance replacement. So i figured i had already screwed it up, why not take it apart before sending it back.....
As with probably everyone we have all seen the IFIXIT tear-down of our device and they had some issues taking it apart, and even damaging the plastic bezel on the housing. So i was intimidated, but i wanted to see if it really was that hard.....
Guys its NOT HARD AT ALL....The hardest part is the plastic on the sides is actually pretty soft, but the only damage i had was before i heated the device up i tried trying to pry the speaker cover off with just a screwdriver (bad idea). This gave me some very very slight damage where i was prying against the plastic. With the heat and then pry this wont happen. (the adhesive is ridiculous by the way, some very strong stuff (I blame 3M)
Step 1: Heat up device with a hairdryer at the bottom speaker cover, your going to need to get it pretty hot (be careful, your speaker is under that)
Step 2: With device still nice and toasty take a spreader ( i used a guitar pick, but i was thinking a hot razor blade slid under might be more effective)
Step 3: Gently work spreader under speaker cover and work from one end to the other, I used a razor blade to get a gab and then work it off, wasn't to hard since the adhesive is warm and easy to peel off the cover. (be careful, you still have to use that adhesive to put it back on, or use another adhesive)
Step 4: Once bottom speaker cover is off take your spreader and place it between the black part of the housing and the silver part (essentially the phone is placed in a aluminum shell, and you need to get it out).
Step 5: With Spreader placed between the chases gently slide from one end to the other, on the right side by the speaker cover is a white tab, slowly leverage this tab separating the black housing from the silver housing, then pry up from one side to the other tell you get a decent gap.
Step 6: Take your separator and go a side of your phone, doesn't matter which one is done first, just like the previous step, place your spreader between the black housing from the silver, and gently slide from the bottom up, if your doing it right you will hear 3 clicks and that side is separated.
Step 7: Take your spreader and repeat Step 6 on the other side until you hear three clicks.
Step 8: Take spreader back to the bottom and gently pry up pulling the black housing out of the silver Back housing, while doing this you may need another spreader to pry the bottom and then go around the sides to make sure it comes out freely.
Man, excellent photos showing us the goods. What i wanna know is that the heck causes the power button to sink in the way it does. Seems hit and miss with these. Some people get very responsive power buttons, others get mushy clicky feels. Weird.
I couldnt do that to my phone. Were you able to put it back together and have it still look good and function as before?

Iiiiinteresting. I remember when the HTC One X was new, i took that think apart and bent the casing of it and ended up cracking the plastic casing. Made me sad, then i found all the parts on ebay to get it back to "mint" condition. Exciting. :good:

If you have a gap, there is no need to take the phone apart.
Just get some super glue in there and clamp tight.
And here are the OEM replacement parts if you screw up
http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html
I was wondering. Is it possible to ONLY touch the body (ie the housing + speaker grills) and replace them? There are a lot of people who scratched their ones and may want to replace the outside.

In the picture, it seems you have thoroughly torn down the entire phone.
Some people may wish to simply change the speaker grills or the rear case (metal + plastic sides). On a scale of 1-10, how hard would that be?
I wanted to do a case mod that preserved the original style of the ouya but also increased cooling. what i did:
1. grind out the plastic bracketing that holds the weights in and support for the pcb so the inside base is flat
P7161819 by l3Wild, on Flickr
P7161822 by l3Wild, on Flickr
2 cut the corners off a standard 60mm case fan and then place it into the base of the ouya, (it actually wedges in perfectly) plus a little epoxy to make sure it doesn't move. The weights also wedge in between the fan and walls of the ouya perfectly snug, but again i added a little epoxy for good measure.
P7161823 by l3Wild, on Flickr
P7242308 by l3Wild, on Flickr
3. i created a little groove with some little pieces of plastic that i glued to the center of the fan for the pcb to wedge into.
P7242310 by l3Wild, on Flickr
4. found longer screws and also some spacers which i grinded down to the right fit. i also had to grind out a hole for the power connection, but that was it.
P7242315 by l3Wild, on Flickr
put it all together and boom, super stealthy stock case mod with an extra fan!
to really finish it i would like to replace those metal spacers with an acrylic spacer that goes around the entire thing, give it some decent grooves or perforations, because i don't want to loose the new top venting i have.
That's a pretty awesome mod mate, I like it...
Can you tell me about the airflow? Do you get good output from the gap under the lid now? Does it feel warm and how often do you notice the Ouya fan come on now that the new fan is in?
Also, how much noise and air does that new fan shift?
This is almost exactly what I had in mind but my fan was under the lid where your gap is so it also draws air in through the bottom and out of the top!!
5 stars lol

I feel some decent flow coming out the top, and it does not feel very warm, that tells me it is keeping the whole thing pretty cool.
Here is a pic of the connections in back btw.

The wifi and bluetooth radios are in the top edge of the board, so now they are actually peaking out through the gap I created, and I am noticing better controller function for sure!
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
as soon as i posted that i realized that the whole board is lifted up because it all sits on top of the fan.
geez, too good.
very clean. do you think you noticed performance improvements? that being said, i'm not sure my ouya has ever gotten to the point where it was extremely hot. I remember my computer acting dodgy when it would heat up beyond comfort. maybe this is just more of a precautionary thing? or just aesthetics?
No, I don't think there are any performance improvements, it is more for aesthetics and insurance

Thanks BDG, and hey I've been meaning to ask you about some acrylic work to go with it. I'd like to replace the metal spacers I have, with something like this:
The holes on the side preferably drilled at a 45° degree angle and the thickness would have to be 3/8". This should offer a little more protection for the internals and refract the led light better¡

I could take a look at it, if you send some dimensions over, but there are a few issues.
1. The acrylic comes in 1/4" or .22" sizes I may be able to find the 3/8" but usually the thicker pieces come in large sizes.
2. I can' t do the 45 degree angle, because with the laser I have to cut in a flat plain.
We may be able to figure something out if you are still interested.
Ok, this may sound really stupid, but I've been trying to open the damn case for like 1 hour and I just can't do it. I chipped my fingernails trying to open it and I don't want to use anything else cuz I might sctratch it. I wish I had one of these plasitc opening tools..Any ideas ?

Dude... It's not hard at all. You can be a little rough with it. It is just plastic clips secured to an internal aluminum frame. Put a towel down on a flat surface, put your tab face down on the towel. Then take a thin object like a CC and work your way from the bottom where the USB port is up to the top and back down the other side.

By CC you mean Credit Card ? Even that is too thick to go through the gaps. The only thing that can do that is a nail but I chipped all of them trying to open it I see that it was very easy for you. Just put your nail in it and push, I do the same but something is wrong with this case.
Sand down one edge of it.
There's not a Nexus 7 I haven't gotten into (and I count over a dozen) in less than 15 seconds using the CC or a thin guitar pick. Once you get it in (I start by the usb) just slide it along. Easy peasey.
Maybe you're being too 'gentle'?

I finally managed to open it with a plastic spoon The spoon broke though...
That's generally a fairly brittle type of styrene plastic.
Do the CC or hotel room key thing in future. Almost no risk of damaging yourself or the N7 with a sharp, broken edge.
Glad you got it open, though...
Hey all!
So I received my new black S4 a couple of days ago and had been enjoying it a lot. That is, until I tried to clean the gap between the bezel and the glass that is accumulating dust over time. As I searched the internet on how to do that, I found out that the corner of a piece of paper would do the trick since a lot of people do this.
So one evening I did as I read on the internet and indeed, a lot of dust came out and I was happy. However, the next morning when daylight shone on my precious S4 I realised that the piece of paper I had slid through the gap also caused it to scratch the very side of the glass!
I was quite surprised that a piece of paper was able to do such a thing but the thought of a papercut made it somewhat obvious.
Now, the whole left side of the glass has an extra white line (aka the scratch) running along the side of the glass (it looks as if it's just beneath the glass). It is only visible when light is shining in particular directions on the phone. Still, I'm quite pissed at myself right now for doing such a thing.
So does anyone else clean the gap with a piece of paper? Did you guys notice any scratch/line along the side of the glass afterwards?
(Sorry if I'm being too OCD about this, I guess I have to find a way to get over it )
well, you've got every right to be oc coz our s4 is a premium phone haha
I never did try using paper.. What i use is a scotch tape and push it carefully with something thin like a needle but thanks for the info my friend.. This has given me a heads up

Hmm, that could have been a better option now to think of it. The thing is I didn't feel any friction at all while I was sliding the paper through it so I thought no harm would be done.
Anyway below is shown what I ended up with.
It does look like dirt between the glass and the bezel. However, I just can't remove it so I automatically assumed it must be some damage to the side of the screen beneath. I wonder what's actually at the bottom of the gap.
Still not able to digest this ;P
