See if the headset supports A2DP protocol. If it doesn't then you can't.

I think most of the mono bluetooth dont support A2DP

Hi there ^^
I just found an awsome app that allow to have a better sound on our desire (only with headphones). I can now use my Desire like a mp3 player.
It use a bug discovered in the app "freebox mobile".
Here is the link ^^

(the app cost 1euro, but you can try it for 7 days for free)
Now my question is, does anyone know a native working method to do the same trick ?
I really don't like when my Desire is overloaded of apps.
Doesn't work with Dell Streak 2.2.1 kills all sound in bluetooth headset
Installed the trial version of this app on samsung galaxy s2, the paid version is listed as incompatible with the same handset. Very strange. Any suggestions? Is that any other app that can help increase the headset volume on sgs2?
Please make this work with cyanogenmod 7.1.
I really miss it!
Doues it works with bluetooth headsets?

Hi all,
I have an Alpine head unit in my car with built in Bluetooth Parrot module. It works great with my Hero for calls etc but is there anyway to stream music to it?
Anything that reduces the amount of cables I have to deal with these days is a good thing!
Thanks guys.
O.P.

Check the manual for your Alpine headunit, specifically if it supports the Stereo A2DP profile, I think it is called. I assume of course that your phone can pair with other headsets and stream music OK? Perhaps you might contact alpine for a software update, or they restrict it intentionally.

Thanks for the reply and info.
I'll have a look at the manual. I haven't got any headsets but can stream music to my laptop so that end of it should be fine.
Still curious to see if anyone's managed it?...

Just had a quick look on the internet and my head unit does support A2DP.
Just not sure what the next step is? Will contact Alpine if no one can help here.
Ta!

Yes, on Stock ROMs and selected custom roms that specifies support for bluetooth headsets.
Just to report on this topic.
There isnt native support for playing music through bluetooth headset (the profile is for it is HSP - headset profile), its only ment for calls. A2DP is profile is for stereo music but its only in more expensive devices with stereo headphones. Many people addressed this issue http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7906 and its really weird that Android doesnt support this. But not to worry there are ways of getting music on mono bluetooth headset. One way is to pair with earphone, play music and then go to dialer and call three asteriks "***" but call is ended after about 30 seconds. Second way is through third party apps. First one I tried is Super BT Mono but isnt working with pcfighters CM7, but other app that I tested on this ROM is BTmono which is working flawlessly so anyone who is having problem like this the BTmono is the answer.
Does anyone how I can get a mono audio option for sound? I use spotify at work and would like to be able to use only one earphone...but then I miss out on half the sound. I have no issues with PowerAmp, since you can downmix to mono but have trouble everywhere else (TuneIn, Spotify, etc). So anyone know of system wide APK or function that allows for mono audio?
I do this every single day at work with podcasts.
Option 1
A2dp Bluetooth
Option 2
Super mono froyo or BT mono in play store
These "hack" your audio to a non a2dp bluetooth
Edit: I re-read your post and it seems you want better quality rather than the wireless capability. Nevertheless a2dp may still be the easier way to go.

Thanks for the response. I actually got a stereo -> mono 3.5 plug but it doesn't like to fit in the N4...works on just about everything but the N4. I think I'll just look for another stereo -> mono adapter that actually fits as BT wasn't the solution I was looking for.
