Aslong as you remember to do a full wipe in CWM and flash ICS kernel your good to go.

I too am on CM7 and tried to upgrade to Official Sony ics beta.
I wiped user data, dalvik cache, battery stats and cache partition through CWM. Then booted in fastboot and flashed (1) boot image (2) user data (3) system in that order.
Boot image and userdata were successfully flashed, but when i flashed system image i got the following error
FAILED (remote: Image won't fit, partition too small!)
I already wiped user data i dont know how to sort this error.
Any ideas????

Maybe flash to 2.3.4 the update to ICS might sort it, I don't know a lot about android but there's always an anwser
Or u could try flash system first

Also I thought if I ever go back to stock, will my bootloader be locked again?

No, your bootloader is separate from the ROM itself

Are you sure your fastboot commands are right?
For the boot image, you type "fastboot flash boot ..\folder\boot.img"
for user data, it's "fastboot flash userdata ..\folder\userdata.img"
and system is "fastboot flash system ..\folder\system.img"
If you enter "fastboot flash boot ..\folder\system.img" because you just pressed the up key for the previous command, then edited the file name (lot of people screwed up by doing this) then fastboot is attempting to write a system image to a kernel partition.
You have to use the commands to flash each image to it's correct matching partition.
Sent from Asgard

move all the img files to your fastboot folder then shift + Right click, open command window, then do
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img (I think)
fastboot flash system system.img
Flash .42 or .64 stock first.

Well I just did what you are trying to do. You must first revert to stock with flashtool. Then flash ics beta with fastboot

Weird, I opened a cmd window with shift right click. Make sure you are not selecting any files when shift right clicking.

CM7 is gingerbread based on the original AOSP Android, not the Sony modified one.
If you want ICS vanilla-style, get CM9.
If you want official Sony ICS, you can either try the beta or wait for official release.

problem with recovery

ok so i rooted and unlocked the bootloader. after that i installed rom manager, flashed the recovery, and than tried to flash the romracer's CWM and now i keep getting the triangle with the android when i go into recovery. any fix for this?

In /system/etc.
That's only if you had Tenfars recovery installed beforehand though. Might want to make sure your downloading the right version from RomRacers thread. Also make sure your downloading the one one the right side (the CWM flashable one) and not the fastboot version.

Just reflash ROM Manager CWM in the app, and use that to flash Aura. Should work. Rom Managers version works, most just prefer RomRacers.
Have you tried installing RomRacers CWM via fastboot? Instructions in his OP (the .zips on the left side).

I had the same issue..
Download ES file explorer and go to settings..
Select "Mount file system - Mount /system as writable"
Delete or rename install-recovery.sh.
Boot into fast boot (power and volume down) press up volume when u see fast boot.
Plug in usb.. start fastboot
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
You will now have a working CWM.
install-recovery.sh cannot be renamed/deleted because the file system is read-only
so how do i delete it? >.<

Do you wipe data/cache and do a factory reset before flashing new rom? For me, it get stuck at boot screen if I flash a new rom without wiping.
Wiping data and factory reset is so important. When I tried to flash my first ROM it also got stuck. Try using 4ext instead of twrp.

There are several more partitions than the ones you listed. Try a different recovery. If that doesnt work, you might return to stock Froyo and try rooting again the right way. I think the problem stems from the method you used to get get the engineering bootloader installed. It will always show S-Off, regardless of the state of the flag. It's possible that because you started off by going through HTC Dev that something is off. In fact, as a test, try flashing your boot.img separately through fastboot and see if it boots.
I tried that and it didn't work even when I relocked the boot loader from the HTC dev site and switched the eng boot.IMG to an updated one and got s off with gfree it boot froyo but would boot any ROM that I flashed with cwm and twrp still yet to try 4ext can't find the file for glacier specifically

Try 4EXT, it it may fix the problem. Heres a link to the APK. It will install the recovery itself after you install the apk, open it, and click install or whatever it is.
Link for the apk is here --->http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk
Or you could get it from the google store.

I have a Nexus 7 wifi, It is stuck at the Google screen boot looping. It is unlocked and has TWRP 2.5 which I can access. I have tried every tool kit to no avail. Need some help please!
dont use a toolkit
get to a command line and figure out whats wrong by trying to flash a factory image, or run factory reset in recovery and see if it fixes it.

I tried factory reset but it fails. I tried to flash a factory image through side load but it fails.
If I go to advanced wipe and do them one at a time they all work except data.
It appears to have nothing on intrenal or external storage.
One other thing is when I try to mount the system in twrp it asks for a password?
I have never setup a password so I don't understand this.
Thanks
Did you encrypt your device?

No, not at all that's what's so strange.
I purchased it new and it started locking up and after an attempted factory reset here we are.

Factory reset would wipe data partition leaving nothing in data. Makes sense that it wouldnt let you wipe that when there is nothing there.
Try flashing a factory image from fast boot. Not from recovery.

Would it not have to be loaded on the device? I tried it with a tool kit and it gets to the end and fails on verification.
I don't remember what version it was so that doesn't help. I think it was 4.1.2
But not positive.

Okay seems to be a problem with twrp 2.5 as far as the password I'm downloading 2.6 now.
Use fastboot to flash new recovery and system partition. You run fastboot commands from your computer not from recovery and your device needs to be in bootloader not recovery. It does not require you to load it onto the device prior

[Q] Can't remove multirom

I have a Nexus 7 WiFi 16GB running stock rooted and 2 custom roms via multiboot.
The custom roms stoped booting and now if you select any rom in multiboot it just boots the stock.
I tried to remove multirom (by reflashing boot.img to the device) and there were no errors but multirom remains.
I then thought I would reflash everything, bootloader, recovery, system the works. All of these processes reported 0 errors but the systems remains exactly the same.
I have also noticed that if I make any changes to the stock rom (install an app or change a setting) when the device restarts it's not there. It's as if the system isn't persistent.
Can anyone help???
Almost sounds like something in the file system got switched to read only.
What are you using to flash the device?
When I was playing with Multirom I think all I had to flash using Wug's was the stock kernel found under advanced options in order to remove multiboot.
The whole thing about making changes to the system that fail to persist is almost like root is borked or the bootloader is locked.
Does anyone know if its even possible to lock the bootloader once rooted?

4. Uninstaller
MultiROM uninstaller: multirom_uninstaller.zip
Flash this ZIP file to remove MultiROM from your device. It will erase all secondary ROMs. If you don't want MultiROM menus in recovery, re-flash clean TWRP, but it is not needed - those menus don't do anything if MultiROM is not installed.
Could've sworn there was an Q&A section

I had the same problem trying to remove multirom, it just wouldn't budge!! I found the best way was to just erase everything on the tablet with fastboot commands and then just re-flash a stock image of Jellybean.

I have ran:

Start again but follow it in this order. But you also need to flash a stock ROM too. Your only doing half a job.

fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata

Going back to stock ready for 4.4

I want to go back to stock to get ready for the 4.4 KitKat it's update. I'll probably flash another ROM anyways but I'd like to try the stock one first. So I'm running aokp, ktmanta kernel, rooted, and philz touch recovery. I know I need the stock recovery, stock ROM, and stock kernel to get the update. Now how can I get those without wiping SD card (which happens when flashing factory image). I don't care if the system is wiped but I want all my files, data, pics, and vids on the SD card saved. Anybody can explain how?

Hi,
The only problem will be your apps, because you won't be able to restore it data without root. However you can factory reset on recovery (probably in your case clean for new ROM install), then just flash boot.img, system.img and recovery.img. I did it many times already, and they never failed to work.

Can I flash these through recovery? Because I'm not sure how to do it using commands. I have wugs toolkit. I think it has the option for flashing stock boot, and recovery but I'm not sure if it has stock system. Plus I don't think root will be an issue because I'm unlocked (obviously since I'm running a custom ROM lol) so it shouldn't be too hard to reroot it. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I don't believe you can flash .img with recovery, the only way would be using "dd" command via a terminal/cmd when your tablet is connected. Using the commands is easy, I'll write a script later for installing it, but for now do the following:
Open a cmd on the folder you have fastboot.exe (Wugs toolkit is a good idea) then copy the .img files there (not the zip neither the .tar.gz, extract both and you'll see some .img files, copy them all), plug your Nexus 10 turned on recovery (after the factory reset for clean install) and type:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Hope this helps,

Ok I've made cwm backup with philz recovery just in case and titanium backup of all my apps. Now Im gonna copy them to my computer as a precaution. I think I might just copy all 20 gb from my tablet to the cpu and then do a stock image flash and be done with it just to be safe. It'll take forever to transfer all the files but its better to be safe than sorry. But before i do that ill try this way. Im just downloading all the required files for wugfresh toolkit so i can do it.

Im using wugs toolkit and im gonna use flash to stock and unroot option. But i dont want to lose the sd card data so if i delete userdata disc inside the factory img zip will it still work but without wiping sd card? thanks
ok nevermind. I was able to extract the stock image and get the seperate images now im gonna open the command windo and flash them as soon as i copy my backups to the cpu first just in case. Thanks for your help @XxLordxX this is pretty helpful because now i know how to do it by myself without relying on a toolkit.
ok i finally did it. Im turning it on now hopefully my sd data is still there or im screwed. It was too much to backup
And all is good YES! thanks a lot for your help.
This thread can now be used to discuss 4.4 if people want to
So I'm trying to do the same thing.
Downloaded the factory files from Google, got it all flashed and booted up and config'd. But here is the thing. If I reboot into fastboot and then go to reboot into recovery (which I want to be stock recovery) it just gives me the android with a red triangle...
I have seen this before but I can't remember how I resolved it.
I tried manually via fastboot flashing recovery but to no avail.
Thoughts?

So I'm trying to do the same thing.
Downloaded the factory files from Google, got it all flashed and booted up and config'd. But here is the thing. If I reboot into fastboot and then go to reboot into recovery (which I want to be stock recovery) it just gives me the android with a red triangle...
I have seen this before but I can't remember how I resolved it.
I tried manually via fastboot flashing recovery but to no avail.
Thoughts?

Thats actually a good sign. Thats the stock recovery. If you need to get out of it just hold down power button for 30 seconds. But now you should be ready for the ota update.
Just hit power then the up down keys. That will show the options
Flashed stock on mine yesterday. Now waiting for KitKat update
