Hi, i have rooted my kindle fire recently ( i had to do it manually because the KFU failed to root it) and installed the google framework and google play APK's manually.
but whenever i try to purchase an app, it force closes. and then it force closes every time after that when i try to open it again. when i go to clear the app data for it it will open again, but will still force close when i try to download an app
i also tried to install the app market version 3.4.4, but that always force closed as soon as i tried to open it
maybe i didnt root it right or maybe its not even rooted? how can you tell if its rooted properly. it als wont let me push anything to /system/. it says its read only or something
Edit: nevermind, i solved it. i had to put the kindle into recovery mode, mount /system/ using clockwork recovery, and then push the vendor.apk and install it while still in clockwork recovery
A little more detail please

I have the same thing going on. Can you elaborate a little more. How did you push it while in recovery? Did you have to make it a zip? I can only find zip files to open and since it isn't a zip I can't find another way to open the file.
Thanks in advance.

I was using the Stock rooted. I followed the first part of the thread and it didn't work for me so I followed the second part and this is were I get lost:
8 - Under "Path settings" Check the box "Up to Root"
9 - Under "Root settings" Check the box "Root Explorer" Tap "yes" on the popup and tap "allow" on the super user window.
10 - Under "Root settings" check "Mount File System"
11 - now your ready to copy the files. Tap back to go back to the sdcard. Tap "Select" on the top toolbar. Select by taping the three .apks you copied over. Once all three are selected Tap "Copy" on the top toolbar
12 - Tap "Up" on top toolbar. Tap "system". Tap "app" and Finally tap "Paste" on top toolbar.
13 - Reboot your kindle and you should now have the Market working on your kindle.
Root Explorer is not there? hmmm, I must be missing something.
in es file explorer -> settings -> scroll down to the section root options ->
first point is root-explorer -> second point is something with file system -> check both

Assuming you have es file explorer installed just do what b63 said so file explorer will have write permissions on the kindle and drag and drop those 3 apks that were in that link 2nd page into the system/app folder and than reboot.... dont try to install them or anything like that just drop them in the app folder and reboot
Thanks guys I got it. I should have made my name NoobCake. What I was missing was....
I didn't understand that I needed to hit the little system folder next to the back arrow at the bottom of the Kindle to check the Root boxes. Once I found that it went great and Market is working good.
I really appreciate your help and to have it so fast is awesome. You guys ROCK!

After I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 my Gmail Widget went missing. Please help me getting in it back.
You need to reinstall using the .apk manually. Download a root explorer (ES File Explorer is a good free one). Go in settings and give it root access + mount for writing. Then, go into the /system/app folder, find the Gmail.apk file and open it. Hit uninstall, then install. If this doesnt work, rename the Gmail.apk to something like Gmail.bak, reboot, and then rename it back to Gmail.apk.
You can do this off adb / term. as well if you know how
gmail missing now?!
Okay, I went to try this, and uintalled Gmail.apk, but now it's gone so I can't re-install it. Ack! Help! Please!
Okay, for anyone else who makes the same mistake and doesn't back up the apk before installing... reflash the rom for the full ota update, and it brings back gmail! yay!

Hmm, I've tried this and still no. Even tried the re-flash with OTA update, no luck. When I select/open the Gmail.apk, it doesn't give me an uninstall option, just install. Here's what I've tried:
1. Open gmail.apk to reinstall (no uninstall option)
2. Rename gmail.apk to gmail.bak, reboot, rename back to gmail.apk, no luck (tried reboot after rename back to .apk, too)
3. rename to Gmail.bak, reflash with OTA update (which does bring back the gmail.apk)
Other thoughts?
Thanks!

Ok, solved it by:
In a terminal
su -
cp /system/app/Gmail.apk /sdcard/Gmail.apk
rm -fr /system/app/Gmail.apk
reboot
Open ES File Explorer
Open (install) /sdcard/Gmail.apk
Voila!
I apologize for this (seemingly) really easy question, but: How do you do this?
"Go in settings and give it root access + mount for writing."

Hey there, I just saw your post.. this part about:
"reflash the rom for the full ota update" to bring back gmail - I was under the impression that I already flashed the ROM for the 3.1 OTA.. did I not? Or do I just have to do it again?
Just putting the Tab into Downloader Mode and select the 'left' option, and select the 3.1 OTA file again ?

Not sure which guide you followed, but I followed this:
galaxytabhacks.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-hacks/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-10-1
I re-flashed with hc-3.1_ota-full_sam_tab_10.1.zip, but I don't think you need to if you backed up your Gmail.apk to /sdcard
If you didn't back up the Gmail.apk file and it's gone, you'll need to either re-flash with this file (under step 5 in the page I linked to) or reset to factory.
Hi, I've tried everything stated here it doesn't work.
I can't rename the apk. file as it says it's a file system read-only.
In a terminal
su -
cp /system/app/Gmail.apk /sdcard/Gmail.apk
rm -fr /system/app/Gmail.apk
reboot
Open ES File Explorer
Open (install) /sdcard/Gmail.apk
Can someone further explain this steps? maybe I did something wrong.
*******************************
It's fine I made an mistake, on the es file explorer, I thought I gave it access but apparently I did not. Thank you.
When I followed Step 5 again, the menu I got was:
- No
- No
- No
- No
- No
- Yes - Install /sdcard/update.zip (not the <samsung_root.zip> file like it's supposed to be)
- No
- No
I even recopy/pasted the .zip file from my laptop into the root folder of the Tab 10.1, and redid it - same listing. I'm not sure why it's not showing the file again..
I rooted my Kindle Fire and the only thing that isn't working is the Google Play Store. I used Kindle Fire Utility to root my device. When I open up Google Play, it says:
The application Google Play Store (process.com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I've tried installing the apk various ways but it's the same result every time.
Any helped appreciated.
Did you move it to /system/app and chmod 755 before installing?
I had this problem for awhile myself and it took me hours to find a solution. What I did was after I rooted my kindle and flashed it over to cm9 reloaded I noticed gapps was not working. So to fix this I rebooted Into twrp and reflashed the gapps zip rebooted once more and my problem was solved. Hope this helps

Flashing insecure stock rom 6.3 did the trick.
It was working. I could navigate through the market and look for apps but when I went to install Spotify, it went back to that error message. After that, I try opening the market and it shows the error message.
I'll be honest; I'm a little lost on what everyone said above. All I've been doing is downloading the apk's from the Internet and throwing them on my downloads folder. I open ES File Explorer and download the apk's. Is there anything simple I can try?

Just set up the es file manager set as rw and drag and drop the 3 apks into the system folder and reboot the kindle

I also wanted to ask; aside from backups or maybe those 3 APK's I just moved, is it safe to delete anything, like the zip file ROM, to free up space on the internal storage?
i assume you mean the sdcard partition
yupp - it's safe - you can keep a backup on your computer if you like
Just got the phone, updated to MDL. Stock root and TWRP recovery.
SU is installed. Downloaded and checked root with Root Checker - root affirmed.
Only mod so far is Hotspot with the MDL Odexed through TWRP.
Installed ES File Explorer, and it wont allow me to delete or rename system files (specifically ui sounds).
ES asked for and was given SU permission.
I am only good enough with Android as far as I can follow instructions in these forums - I know nothing beyond that.
Any ideas what the problem may be? I was considering getting Root Explorer, if that will work, but I dont want to drop the 3.99 if the problem is elsewhere or can be fixed.
Thanks for your help.
(And what I am currently trying to accomplish is silencing the camera (or more specifically, editing/saving the feature.xml file to allow menu switching of sound : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261789 - it wont let me save the text edited file - I assume it;s the same problem that wont let me delete/rename.)
Thanks. Without you guys I'd be straight Sprint/Samsung stock - aint nobody got time for that.

Thanks, but that was actually the first thing I tried - it brings up the rename dialogue, but then after change and "ok", nothing is changed. Same with Astro and Root File Manager.
Thanks, though.
Anyone else?
Try pressing Menu and then going to "Root Explorer" and then "Mount R/W"
From there, make sure the path shows RW instead of RO. Click ok.
Exit out of ES File Manager and come back in and check the Root Explorer Mount R/W again to see if RW stuck. If it did, try to see if you can delete.

Clicked on root explorer and it gave a (paraphrased) "ES File Explorer has been given superuser privileges for interactive shell" (or something close to that), but I cant find "Mount R/W" anywhere.
And trying various things keeps giving me "device not supported" errors. Again, a paraphrase as the message isnt on screen long enough for me to get the exact wording.
Thanks again for the help.
Is this what comes up when you click on root explorer?

No. Nothing opens up. Same settings menu screen, there is just the message that appears below, then disappears, about "superuser permission granted.
I also have same issue where it tells me superuser access has been granted. However, about 15 seconds later I get another message saying "Sorry, test failed. This feature can not run on your phone."
Hmm, that's definitely not right. Try going to the Application manager, to ES File Explorer, Clear data, Uninstall, then re-installing it through Play Store. See if it still does that.
You should definitely get that screen when you go to root explorer.

Nope. clear, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot... and still getting the same results. Bah.
Does Solid Explorer also fail to be able to delete?

Thanks Apex. Solid Explorer worked. Thank you for not giving up on the ideas.
While I am glad I found a solution to deleting the files, I remain a bit concerned about the ES File Explorer problem. It make me think other problems exist that I just haven't hit yet.
Case closed!
Great, glad that worked out for you.
Alright all you legacy device lovers, lol, go get your HTC Mytouch 3G devices (probably all sapphire devices, haven't tried on others) that are stuck on that annoyingly persistent Google Sign-In screen outta of the junk drawer and get ready to get some use out of it. I've really only seen a few solutions, touching the four corners, lol, really? never seen that work but its everywhere so it must have at some point, and some other vague or ineffective methods. I have done this over and over just to make sure it wasn't some sorta fluke or lucky button press. That being said i no longer have the devices cause i was unlocking it for a friend that used too many wrong pin codes, so if you see some mistakes, plz let me know.
But first, let me cover my a**, lol

LMAO, Alright now that's over with. I can say that, although seemingly complicated, if you mess this up then you should have left it in the junk drawer cause its pretty hard to mess it up. I will also include the steps taken to get custom recovery and cm6 on the device as well. The main thing is getting the right files.
It was running Android 1.6.
View attachment 2167592
These are the files you will need:
1.Rom Manager 2.5.0.4
2.Universal AndRoot 1.5.3
3.Root Explorer
4.Terminal Emulator
5.My html hack.View attachment html_hack.zipl
6.Cyanogenmod 6.1
7.Gapps zip
Put all these files at the root of your sdcard, extract html_hack.zip to the root of the sdcard and insert into phone..Also add at least one picture to the DCIM/Camera folder.
Alright, Now that you have the files lets start the fun stuff.
1. Of course power device on normally.
2. Once at the "Click the Android to start" screen, Press Emergency Dialer in the bottom left.
3. Dial the Test Screen Dialer Code. "*#*#4636#*#*".
4. Touch Phone Information at the top.
5. Press the Menu button when the Phone Info screen pops up and touch View Sim Address Book.
6. If you have contacts stored on your SIM Card, just touch any of them. If not add one by pressing menu i think.
7.When the edit contact screen comes up, click the image at the top left that is the image for the contact
8.The gallery will come up, press the menu button and touch Capture Image.
9.When the camera app opens, click the gallery shortcut in the top right corner.
10, Long press on any of the images in your gallery and touch Share on the right.
11.Press Messaging from the list that pops up.
12. In the Recipient field press any random 10 digit number and in the text field enter "Google.com"
13. Hit send, of course it will not send and give you some network unavailable message. now click "Google.com" in the message you just attempted to send, which will bring you to the Browser.
14. long press the menu button, and in the text field type "content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/html_hack.html"
15. Now click the Root explorer link and it'll show a warning about unknown sources, click Settings.
16. Touch the Unknown Sources checkbox and while you are there click Development and enable USB Debugging.
17. click back to the web browser and click Root Explorer again and Install.
18. Once installed open Root Explorer.
19. Browse to your sdcard and click the Universal Androot file and install.
20. Once installed open the app, make sure android 1.5/1.6 Superuser is selected and click the Root button.
21. Now click back till you get to the browser again and install Root Explorer again and open.
22. This time though you should see the superuser dialog pop up. Of course click Allow.
23. Again browse to your sdcard and install Terminal Emulator, and open it. Allow superuser.
24. Alright now for the awesome part, in terminal emulator type:
Code:
su
am start -a android.intent.MAIN -n com.android.settings/.Settings
Which should open the settings menu.
25. Now navigate to the Wireless menu and enable WIFI and select a WIFI connection.
Thats the bypass. alot of steps right, lol, but it works.
26. Now press the back button all the way back to the "Click the Android to start" screen and procede with activation.
alright Now you are in your phone.
27. Go to the stock Market app and download Busybox by Stephen and install the app. Install busybox from the app.
28. Now go back to root explorer and browse to the sdcard and install Rom Manager. Open it and Allow superuser.
29. now click Install Clockworkmod Recovery and select the appropriate device. This will probably kick you back to the home screen.
30. Open Rom Manager again and reboot into recovery.
31. From CWM Recovery select install zip from sdcard and select the Cyanogenmod 6 zip file. Let this complete then reboot. This will of course take a while.
32. Once booted back up click the android then skip and skip. Then confirm the location stuff.
33. Open Rom Manager again and reboot into recovery and pick install zip from sdcard and select the gapps zip and install.
34 Once it's finished, reboot and you are all set. Root, Busybox, CWM Recovery and cm6 with google apps is yours. Congrats.

i already have done wp.ko method ... no profit.... it doesnt work... when i uninstall system app and reboot it come back again.... sdfix and root uninstaller is not working also........
after activating wp_mod.ko with insmod-command you have to do another command in terminal as su :
mount -o remount,rw /system
now the wp_mod.ko takes effect und you can edit /system (carefully)
after rebooting the device /system is writeprotected again and you have to renew the command

Do below steps for a permanent system write access
Do step by step very carefully. After this, install root uninstaller(Search Google play). If installed, uninstall & reinstall after this.
1 install TWRP
2 Boot into twrp
3. Select the "Mount" option on the main menu and tick system
4. Go back to the main menu and then go into the "Advanced" option. There will be a "File Manager" option
5. Navigate to the folder you saved the .ko file in and copy it (just touch the file and it will bring up the menu)
6. now navigate to /system/lib/modules and copy the file there by hitting the "select" button on the bottom right.
7. Navigate to /system/lib/modules and insure the file is there. Now touch it to bring up the menu. select "Chmod" option and enter in 644
8. reboot the device
9. Once booted fully open up Terminal emulator and type:
su
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
10. Once that's done open up a file manager app with root access and mount as r/w and navigate to /system/etc and look for the file install-recovery.sh*
11. edit the file using a text editor, adding the line insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko towards the bottom of the file
12. reboot and enjoy r/w on boot without running the command every time.

Thanks for the reply, man, but is there any tutorial I could follow those steps? I mean is there any videos or somehow? because this seems too much complicated to me, as I am still new to android world after getting addicted to Nokia mobiles..
Do games run smoothly on this phone since we're talking about moving the to SD?

Yeah, it runs smoothly epically. I didn't face any lag problems except for asphalt 8. It just lags on high graphics, but works fine for both medium and low..
Still waiting for someone to help me doing the up procedure. :/

Fist make your SD writable. Then install GL to SD.
Google for GL to SD tutorial.
Don't wait for anyone, Google is a good teacher.

Yikes, never HTC again after my experience with this phone. Buying the s5 tomorrow, hopefully I don't regret it.

What happened that changed your mind on the 816? You've always seemed like you were enjoying the phone.

Might just be bad luck for me, but my headphone jack stopped working, my sim card slot broke, and my SIM card spring broke. Also I didn't like the limited storage and awkward buttom placement.
