SD Card question - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi guys, just a quick question. I've bought a hd2 off ebay, it's come today. I've flashed the Pdaimatejam Wp7.5 Tango v7.8 rom. But currently i've got no sd card in the phone, so when turned on it says storage card not working. I've ordered a sd card off ebay and it should come within a few days. But at the moment is there no other rom other wp7 rom I can flash without an sd card?
Regards,

no... all WP7 devices (not only HD2) use sdcard as main memory

Right, thanks for the reply.
I'll flash in a few days then.

silly me, i had those partition errors while installing & found out that the SD card was not fully inserted.
Also may I ask if do you really need to buy the SD card from ebay? Isn't there any shops in the neighborhood selling those?
I agony of waiting arrrrgggghhhhh

There are shops but they'll set me back almost triple the price. I mean I bought a 4gb micro sd card for £2.60, in shops you would struggle getting that for under £10. It's all about saving money you see

OK, got you on that one.
I roam around the shops here in HK to get the lowest price I can find too

New SD card

I brought a new SD card the other day (made by TwinMOS) hope to have some fun with ROM flashing only to find that my XDA 1 can not see it. I have made sure it is inserted correctly and all pins inside are fine but for some reason it can not read it. I have the PPC2003 running on it at the moent. Does anyone know why it can not see my SD card ???
Problem solved. TwinMOS cards are not compatible with the XDA1. Got Sandisk now and works fine
Hi, could I just ask if it was a 'normal' TwinMos SD Card, or was it from their 'Ultra-X' (high speed) series?
I currently have a Ultra-X and I was trying to figure out why my XDA1 couldn't see it, and just thought to look here. Plan to bring it back to the shop to swap tomorrow...
According to their SD Compatibility List, the O2 xda is listed there, but I guess that only applies to their 'normal' SD cards?
sorry but no idea what type of SD TwinMOS card it was. Just know my XDA would not see it at all but as soon as I put in the SanDisk and reboot then it saw it immediately

Flashing with SD Card

Hey guys!
I have a question about flashing with SD-Card:
Do I have to use 1GB/2GB Cards which are none "SDHC" cards?
Or does our Blackstone support High Capacitiy in Bootloader Mode?

I flashed mine using the 8GB card that came with the phone. I would of thought as long as the phone can read the memory card you'll be able to flash from it.
Ok, if you did it with the 8GB card then it should work. Thanks

That's wrong, as far as I know. My old device was a Hermes which I could NOT flash with SDHC cards. But it was also able to read SDHC cards like my 4GB SDHC card.
That's why I asked
i tried with 2 different 8gb cards one of which came with the phone and both didnt work ,
but my 2gb and 16gb both work

I can confirm this too - and I nearly always flash my HTC's from the card.
But you need make sure that card is first formatted to the correct FAT (cant remember which now, its in the Wiki), and obviously that the phone can see the card. Then all should work fine!

San disk 8Gb sudd

Hi
I have a problem with my new SanDisk 8GB memory. Some times when I am loocking for a file in the memory, it appears as empty. Re booting the phone everything returns to normal, but it is a problem because the alarms that have their sounds in the sd don´t work in this condition.
This did not happened with the 2gb memory that came with the Tattoo.
The memory was formated with the phone but still remains the problem.
Can some one help me?

Thanks for you reply.
The Tattoo is 100% original, buyed unlocked in USA. The microSDHC is a Sandisk 8Gb buyed in USA too.
I was looking for somebody with a similar problem and the way to fix it. Or a good idea to do it.
The original SD 2Gb wooked fine but it is too small.
I don´t know if the trouble is the SD or the phone. The SD may be the guilty

Same thing happens to me as well but only when the card is not mounted (eg when my tattoo is connected to my PC etc).

One thing more. Last night tired of losing the SD and his music I gave format FAT32 (not quick) to the memory with a PC. Lamentably the problem was continuing I didn´t install data from the Android Market (WIFI Connected).
Then I decided change the SD as the next step.
I charged the battery of the Tattoo during the nigth. Phone was ON with the SD indicating capacity 0. But surprisingly this morning the SD was OK!!.
It seems that something has to see the condition of the battery, I will follow this point.
I have/had the same SDcard. I had the same problems after about one month. A few days later the SDcard was undetectable for my Tattoo and my computer. In the moment my SDcard is on the way back to SanDisk for replacement. The problem with this card is that it is only class 1. I think that could cause this strange behavior.

Hi. Well, 3 days ago I changed the 8GB SanDisk memory to a new 4Gb Kingston memory.
Now all work fine. I don´t know if the problem is general for 8GB SanDisk memories or only the one that I have, but the Tattoo is not guilty!!!!!

[Q] Reinstalling WP7 on HTC HD2

Hi, well I'm going to reinstall WP7 because I'm tired if the phone saying "low storage space" so I found my SD card, I'm going to reinstall WP7 and use my SD card to buy apps and other stuff that requires big storage, so I'm wondering, do you need to reinstall windows? Thanks
Yes, WP7 will format that card accordingly so it can be used.

Maybe it´s best to check some of the SD card threads here in the HD2-WP7 subforum - some brands or specific products seem to be better than others. I am quite sure you´ll find something in your local store or online.

32GB Transcend card not recognised

hi, anyone using a 32GB Transcend card?
win 7 was ok with a 2GB Sandisk and an unmarked 4GB card, dual boot with android.
are some roms better than others or is there anything else i can do or is that just how it is?
tried full clean format of card etc.
did you try insert card on already installed WP7 or you flashed ROM with card inside?
you cant only insert card... you need to make hard reset or flash ROM to use new card...
http://www.wpcentral.com/first-offi...-certified-microsd-card-announced-sandisk-8gb
same with my 16g Transcend, WP7 doesn't recognize it while flashing, what I did was use an 8g Sandisk then just made an image copy of that to the Transcend then it is OK, but during the flashing it wont see a Transcend card
you guys need to realize it's not always about the sd card that causes problems. the particular wp7 rom flavor causes incompatibilities. also, you can't copy existing wp7 sd images and expect it to work. just make sure the sd card is formatted in any of the std windows/dos formats...fat16, fat32, ntfs.
also, i've never encountered sd issues with 4 different brands ranging from 8gb to 32gb sizes of sd cards using yuki rom, but these same cards have issues when trying to flash pdaj, ansar, and hd2o wp7 roms.
BTW
if I flash WP7 using the Transcend it wont work
if I flash Android using the Transcend it will work

that goes without.saying. android doesn't have such strict requirements as wp7. as i stated in previous post...other wp7 roms other than yuki rom seem to be prone to sd card issues.

hi,
@dxdy: as i said in my post, i dual booted with android on 2 other different cards ok (by imaging and resizing and adjusting partitions)
bad thing was losing half my sd just for win 7. and i didnt like the idea of swapping cards.
also, the battery issue does not seem to have been bottomed out with its appalling standby times.
thanks though to hjhjhj for that info. that was just what i wanted to know. interesting but strange that different roms see the cards differently.
locking an os to a removable storage card has to be one of the worst features i have seen.
at least with our HD2's we still have other options.
will fire up win 7 again and give it another go.
