New SD card - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I brought a new SD card the other day (made by TwinMOS) hope to have some fun with ROM flashing only to find that my XDA 1 can not see it. I have made sure it is inserted correctly and all pins inside are fine but for some reason it can not read it. I have the PPC2003 running on it at the moent. Does anyone know why it can not see my SD card ???

Problem solved. TwinMOS cards are not compatible with the XDA1. Got Sandisk now and works fine

Hi, could I just ask if it was a 'normal' TwinMos SD Card, or was it from their 'Ultra-X' (high speed) series?
I currently have a Ultra-X and I was trying to figure out why my XDA1 couldn't see it, and just thought to look here. Plan to bring it back to the shop to swap tomorrow...
According to their SD Compatibility List, the O2 xda is listed there, but I guess that only applies to their 'normal' SD cards?

sorry but no idea what type of SD TwinMOS card it was. Just know my XDA would not see it at all but as soon as I put in the SanDisk and reboot then it saw it immediately

SD memory Card files disapeared

Hi , all something strange happened to my XDA II SD Memory card!!! , i was installing an application on the SD Card and i went to the SD Card to explore it searching for something while the XDA while installing but i couldn't see all my old files , when i check the memory status i can see that i am using 70MB if the 256MB but i can't locate the files.
can any one help.
I had the same problem with a Sandisk 256mb card.
I've found that it works fine with a Lexar 128mb card though.
So it looks like the XDA2 has problems with SD cards as well as a completely duff bluetooth implementation.

Man thats bad news, have you tried doing a soft reset.
Also if you have a PC card SD reader try running Scandisk on the
card.
BTW as you can see it not a good idea to access your SD card while
programs/files are being installed / written to it.
HTH
Sandisk
ok interesting , i am also using Sandisk 256MB!!!
i tried soft reset and it didn't help.i will try to find a PC reader and see if i can get anything out of it or i might try to use it on my brother XDA 1 because most of the files were used on my old XDA with PPC2002 rom.
Hurray, its not just me then. I have a 128mb dane elec card and 70meg has disapeared. Im not sure if anything was on teh card previously and I dont have a card reader to check. Its most annoying!
Storage Card slot kaput
I bought a brand new generic 2GB SD card and had it working for a day. It just wasn't working anymore one morning I have left my XDA II overnight on the cradle. Now it wont accept any MMC or SD card I put on it. Any idea what could have gone wrong?
When it was still working I tried copying media files on it (in Microsoft knowledgebase they confirmed in order for media files to work in storage cards you have to create My Documents folder did this on the several cards I tested but to no avail)
The storage card I bought was 2 GB, O2 site says XDA II has been tested on 1GB storage cards--could I have burnt my SD card slot?
Maybe the card brand was too generic-- but then I tried other branded SD and MMC cards after the day my slot stopped recognizing and it still didn't recognize Sandisk (512) and Leica cards (64MB)
The SD card in question is still detected if you put it in a card reader then connect it to a PC
Help badly needed, I'm losing so much productivity with very small storage/ROM space

Well, I'm using Kingston 2GB SD card and it works perfect... and it's a high speed card.
You may have your SD slot broken. My slot for example from time to time gets the card disconnected (let's say, every few hours), and I have to pull it off and put back in.
in a sdcard reader undelete tools from pc can recover files from sd cards as they can with harddisk

Flashing with SD Card

Hey guys!
I have a question about flashing with SD-Card:
Do I have to use 1GB/2GB Cards which are none "SDHC" cards?
Or does our Blackstone support High Capacitiy in Bootloader Mode?

I flashed mine using the 8GB card that came with the phone. I would of thought as long as the phone can read the memory card you'll be able to flash from it.
Ok, if you did it with the 8GB card then it should work. Thanks

That's wrong, as far as I know. My old device was a Hermes which I could NOT flash with SDHC cards. But it was also able to read SDHC cards like my 4GB SDHC card.
That's why I asked
i tried with 2 different 8gb cards one of which came with the phone and both didnt work ,
but my 2gb and 16gb both work

I can confirm this too - and I nearly always flash my HTC's from the card.
But you need make sure that card is first formatted to the correct FAT (cant remember which now, its in the Wiki), and obviously that the phone can see the card. Then all should work fine!

16G Micro SD

Just bought a 16GB Micro SD Card, it is not recognised by HD (saying not installed, my old 8GB card is working fine), but the card is working very well in the other phone (LG) and my digital camera.
Any professor could help? Thanks
Just a wild guess that it's an SD-HC card. Certain types of cards will be recognised after some registry tweaks.
*Which ROM are you using? - These tweaks may or may not already be applied
*Does your computer recognise the card? - Could be a faulty card
*Have you run the Card Format utility from within the phone? - All cards need to be formatted first
As always remember to search the forum. And PLEASE do not double-post. You will be lucky if anyone replies to either this thread or the same thread in the accessories forum.
Thank you.
I bought the 2nd class 6 16GB card which is working well. The 1st one is going to be used in my digital camera.

Gold card SD card brand/model compatibility.

So here's my problem. As far as i can tell i am reproducing the steps to create
a gold card to the letter. However after spending close to £30 on SD cards and
getting nowhere I'm pretty much either the most unlucky S.O.B on the planet
or I'm doing it wrong, which i really don't think i am at all, I am very methodical
and re-trace my steps two, sometimes three times.
If i am just unlucky, there must be a way to tell if a card is capable of
becoming a gold card. What exactly are the requirements for a Micro SD card
to retain the HEX'd info without failing to mount? It can't be random chance
that every time i click 'save' then exit from HXD my pc/phone refuses to read
the card as a mountable, formatted file system.
another thing I've noticed is that the Information you write over in OFFSETs
01 (or whatever it is) to 170 are replicated in the second block just after it.
Is that a security back up of the CID security check on the card? because
I can't see why the card would have it twice if it had no intention of using it.
I'm probably wrong about that but It was worth mentioning.
Really my question is what EXACT make and model number has worked for
people? If enough people post in this thread with the data I will make a database
that i will maintain for people who; like myself are having serious problems
finacially getting a gold card sorted out.
So please post as follows:
Manufacturer: blah blah
Model: ohh blah
Model Number: sdsdsd
Batch Number: sdwe23e
Don't worry if there is missing information. Just post as much as you can.
If there is more or different information than i posted please post that also.
Thanks.
Confirmed working:
transcend 8gb class 6 card
ScanDisk Mobile Ultra 8GB
i got it working with a transcend 8gb class 6 card
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-microSDHC-Memory-adapter-TS8GUSDHC6/dp/B001IAMME8
didnt work first 4-5 times tho
kept trying and it worked
i would suggest instead of buying soo many cards, you keep trying
So you format the card in phone.
Take the card out, into the PC reader.
HEX edit and save.
Remove.
Boot phone with the card in.
And if it fails, repeat?
Also, noted the make and model of your card, thanks.
eh i didnt have a sd card reader at the time so i edited the stuff via sd card in the phone

I've heard it works either way.
When you have edited the card and it's in the phone, can the phone read it
or does it come up as blank?
Also, in the quides where it says "reboot with card inserted" does that mean the boot console
or a normal boot? Sorry for the 101 questions btw.
It works with the stock SD card that come with the phone. Your best of having a card reader and plugging it into the pc to edit certain parts. Just do exactly as you say and you will be fine.
I have a tmobile hero also and my problem is the fact that the goldcard bit seems to work and my pc can read the card, but when following the tutorials and doing the backups, it fails, i hate tmobile
ah and Im using a ScanDisk Mobile Ultra 8GB, tried it with the stock 2GB and same problem

Same here,... SD card that came with handset worked fine.
Initially failed when using Windows 7 64bit but was fine with an old XP machine.
Hmmm i've had the same problems on 2 Kingston microSD 2GB cards, the whole procedure was fine but when it comes to the testing, when i tried opening the drive, they said i needed to reformat the card. Hmmm are there any sequences of steps on how to do it or so?

dude your the man ive tried 4 cards about a hundred times with no luck but never tried the other option (think it was physical disk) and it work first time
I did it with two different SD cards and it always worked on the first time. I did it with a card reader.
- SanDisk 2GB (HC)
- Sandisk 8GB (HC)
I've tried it with:
4gb Lexar
2gb PNY
2gb SanDisk
2gb Kingston
Using these steps:
wiki.cyanogenmod[dot]com/wiki/Howto:_Create_a_Goldcard (I'm not special enough to post links I guess...)
No luck at all with any of them.
Any pointers would be nice as I too would like to not have to purchase more and more SD cards to get it to work...
ok, I think I got the gold card right, but I wasn't able to use it to root the phone...
Either I didn't actually make a gold card, or the phone is just a real pain...

[Q] Microsd card not being recognised.

The 8gb card that came with my Desire HD works perfectly as you expect. But i wanted to upgrade so i bought a class 4 Kingston 16gb microsd card.
So i unmount the card, take it out, then put the new one in... and when i go to storage management it has unknown for everything. When i take the card out the OS says "Card removed, insert new one", i put the old one in and it works perfectly.
I then reformatted with windows and made it 16kb fat32 and the exact same thing happens.
The card works perfectly on the computer and is not an ebay fake.
Any suggestions?
Edit- i just loaded up CWM and it easily saw my sd card. So i dont know whats going on there. I partitioned it using CWM and now am installing a different rom and hopefully the problem will be fixed without me even knowing what the issue was.
Still any suggestions will be appreciated.

Most of the steps you took, make sense to me, but I am not an expert on this.
One question, can you let all of us know what the result was, after you flashed a different ROM? Might help someone with similar issues.
