Stories about your phone//Brick - XPERIA X8 General

I am intrested in the past times, when the X8 was new on XDA and there were no custom kernels and the bootloader unlock was new. I have heard about many people who hard bricked their lovely phone. When found the devs the date code thing out?

reserved you never know ;-)

In opinion, a hard-brick is all but impossible on the X8. True, a work-around may not be available yet but .... a hard-brick ...? *chuckles*

It's a "hard-brick" when your phone cannot be powered on, and cannot be recognized by your computer.
So the solution is already here, it is to write to the phone with UART or JTAG cables.

[Q] Trying to learn :D Question about bootloader

I am trying to learn the basics in the shortest amount of time and I thought I shall start here. What is a bootloader? and how do you go about getting a cracked one? That will enable custom kernel if I am not mistaken right?

Wikipedia explains better than I do but the short version is that the bootloader is the first thing the phone itself starts when you power it on. After it's loaded it checks the internal storage on the phone and if it finds an OS it boots it.
There are some checks built in to the loader to make sure that the OS is the one Sony supplies, if those checks fail it won't boot. We need to find those checks and disable them before we can use custom ROMs.

It's impossible to say exactly how close they are, it could take anywhere from a few more days to several months. But they are working on it and it seemed to be going well last time I checked. Although there hasn't been a lot of progress reports lately so they're either stuck or they're working really hard.

W8 users ..be warned !

This is to all w8 users ...i seen many unlock bootloader threads which their w8 got dead brick after the bootloader got sucesfully unlocked..this includes me ..so just a warning for w8 users..try not to unlock bootloader on your w8 since it seems to be very risky...just hoping others won't get into trouble like some of us..if it really got dead brick ..well sent it to a repairman and wish..
or this?http://androidforums.com/vibrant-tips-tricks/223806-guide-fixing-bricks-odin-errors.html i didn't try it since my w8 is not with me ..i think it only works for samsung phones...
I have a W8, and I can proudly say that I have unlocked by bootloader with no problems. At first try, you will have bootloop or something like that, but even if it is hard bricked, you can still fix it. I've been using my unlocked phone for about a week. Still no problems.
Currently using:
GingerDX v21 and alfs kernel v05
well..i got hard brick and the repairman cant fix it..gonna try another repairman...=( my phone is only 3weeks old...

I am also the lucky one .
Thread on the topic , i read that users who have numbers on their battery less than a fixed number can unlock their boot loader
So number on my battery is 11W24
The important in this is 24.
If someone with less than this can unlock their bootloader without risk.
Butabove this I don't know.
yea..sadly my w8 got so many other problems ..after repairing from hard brick it spoilt 3 other times ..i got so pissed that i told the retailer to give me a mini ..hehehe

We need more LB support.

Hey guys, just a quick thread.
I think this phone needs more LB support. Has anyone even tried a bypass method for us with LB to be able to flash custom kernels? I know back when I had a Bell Motorola Atrix there was a hack that gave us the ability to unlock our bootloaders. Why aren't we trying to find one for this phone?
I understand that those with LB can't use the official method for unlocking the bootloader, but is there not a hack we could work towards? Has anyone even tried to unlock the LB Xperia Z2? There must be a way.
Besides that, I also think it would be good to have more LB support in android development. For example a CM11 that can be used on LB devices. I'm currently running Miui 4.4.4 and it supports both LB and UB.
Cheers

The best way to support LB is to have a rom version that uses the stock kernel. Hopefully this is what happens moving forward with the release of a sony lollipop update.

I think I saw from some other threads that the reason why we can't work towards unlocking non-unlockable bootloaders is because we need to break sony encryption or something like that?
I don't know, sorry.
We are at the peak of Locked Bootloader Support.
We cant do anything more unless someone wants to spend so much time to do so.
Cracking sonys bootloader encryption results essentialy in an unlocked bootloader hence thats somewhat pointless
We cant unlock a non unlockable Xperia unless as said the encryption is cracked
And sonys encryption is almost FBI level and it may even vary per Z2
Cm11/12 on locked bootloader is possible but its extremly complicated and setting up a rom like such on LB is complicated too
You have to root your device, install a custom kernel to the fotakernel given that its not bound by the bootloader then we have to make a modified rom which reboots the fotakernel then the custom rom that matches

Best to wait for OTA lollipop update then?
If it were standardized, say if CM11/12 took on the responsibility of releasing a LB rom, would it not make the process easier for everyone else?
Just do the same as me, sell the phone and buy another brand like motorola or something like that.
But nobody wants a Z2, hard to sell as hell.

Or just do your research and don't get a locked device.
Actually I think it shouldn't be too difficult to install cm11/12 on LB. There is a method which has worked now for some months on the Xperia SP which let you run any ROM on the stock kernel. I think these modified for LB ROMs load a custom ramdisk at a late point in the boot process. I'm not familiar with the way it works but I guess with some reasonable work amount it might be doable for the Z2 too. If someone is willing to try to port it pm me, I can provide you with the usernames of the people who made it on the XSP.

The easiest way is to change your phone to an unlock BL allowed: yes one.
If it was easy to run custom kernels on a LB , having an UB or LB would be practically the same...
I also have an unlockable phone, but it's my own fault for not researching better before buying the phone. i never had sony phones before, i should have researched more. Since the security of the z2 is very high i'm not expecting to run customs kernels anytime soon, if i ever need it it'll try to sell my phone and buy an unlocked one...

So what about this? Why not just give it a shot for CM11/12?
As I said previously I'm currently running Miui on 4.4.4 and it gives you an option for locked or unlocked bootloader in the Aroma installer.

miui is stock based hence why it works on LB
Its extremly hard to get any custom kernel to run on a device to have it work on LB as said its pointless bugging people about it.

Oliver and letama are rhe ones behind CM10 for Xperia S
Is far as i know they have a smaller custom kernel in /system Most of the rom uses the stock kernel i think.

I think 42 years of brute force testing is how long it should take i thinm.
Unless someone can get a lucky catch.
Hah, well hopefully people support LB by including a stock kernel version for all roms (especially with release of official lollipop stock kernel --soon?--).

Xperia z5 premium root, bl & roms!

Okay, i am making this thread so people can find the answer for their questions here, some of these are the questions i was wondering too, but mostly these questions are what i think most people are wondering. And as always i want the answer to be heard from many people, so i really can be sure and know all about it!
ROMS..............
So, anyone got any idea when custom roms like cyanogen get compatibility for xperia z5 premium? how long does it usually take? and how do i get my current stock rom on my pc so i can customise it myself, and not die in waiting for cyanogen ? When the first cyanogen comes, it will be laggy, as everyone knows... Is it worth flashing? Can flashing ROMs break my phone, even when done right? Are they too risky for my brand new flagship beast?
ROOT..............
When do EASY one click rooting apps like kingroot, kingoroot and iroot work with the z5 premium? Does the "dirty" unlocked bootloader root made by androplus for xperia z5p work for the latest software update? When will the legendary locked bootloader root come?
BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED......
Okay this is what i can answer on!
Will the camera quality go really bad?
NO, it won't. Only in low light it will be terrible, only in low light! It is EXACTLY (for me) the same as locked bootloader on normal lightning. YOU CAN BARELY SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!
is the boot loader worth unlocking??
This is a hard one. Its different for everybody, someone LIKE ME thinks its worth it, some others think its not. (tell your opinions pls)
FOR ME IT IS. As with unlocked bootloader you will be getting root before the locked boys.
What does change?
For me, nothing really. No experience has changed for me, but everyone uses it differently!
Okey so thats it for now its sunday night soon, post your questions down below, ill answer IF I CAN xd. if i don't know the answer, other people will answer it (HOPEFULLY) please ask and comment below! Thank you guys!
And by the way, will there EVER be a android 4.x rom that works on z5p?
Android 4.x ? Are you kidding me? Nooooo of course there wont be...
Unlocked bootloader exists and so does root. We dont have locked Bootloader root yet.
Cyangenmod? Wont be for while I think.
Id just be happy you have a good device, unlock the bootloader and root.

No-one in this section will have that device as this forum is for the g935/f etc.
No-one can port without a device to work on (For testing etc). XDA doesnt allow blind building due to the possibility of potentially bricking peoples phones. If i tried to port a rom to your model without owning it, you flashed it and bricked your device - would you be ok with that?
If you have the device, the best thing is to learn whats required and do it yourself...
