Kudos DEVs... you made my photos look kick ass better thn stock rom.
No i mean absolute NO problems detected so far.
I am a noob guys. so even you can figure out with a lil common sense.
Go ahead search it and you'll get it.

It's on my to-do list tonight for the new KF that I picked up from the refurb sale this week! You just beat me to it.

See I have the opposite, it's always hanging up requiring me to hard reboot the system... ICS just does not work :? Am I doing something wrong?

You'd have to provide a bit more information, such as the ROM you're using and whether you wiped properly before flashing it. It does sound like you're experiencing a SOD (Sleep of Death), though.
----------------------------------------------
This post is a great read for anyone new: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552547
The only issues with ICS (known) mostly relate to the lack of HWA (Hardware Acceleration) meaning no flash, netflix, HD videos (except 720p ones using a SW decoder), intense games, browsers that require it, such as Opera or Chrome...
With some ROMs/kernels, some people experience SODs (need to force the power off by holding the power button for 10 seconds), wifi issues and/or sound issues.
There's a new kernel being developed by Hashcode that will hopefully give ICS ROMs a very nice boost, you can read more about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545172
Welcome to the KF community

I ended up getting it working by installing an alternate kernel. Now no issues with any cm9 ROM. Strange that it was the fix but everything is better now...

Latest Tiamat ROM & Kernel Have Me Worried

I have never run the OC'd GPU kernel for fear of damaging my device. I have been running Tiamat kernels since about day 3, though. Today I installed the latest ROM release that includes the Tachi kernel. Whenever I reboot it causes odd display errors at the Motorola logo. The first time this happened the screen would freak out for about ten seconds before the Xoom would reboot. I restored a nandroid to 3.1 and had no problems, so I upgraded from that to the latest Tiamat again. I checked stock rooted 3.2 while upgrading and had no display errors. It seems to be linked to the ROM / kernel. I didn't test just the kernel on the stock ROM, but what would cause this other than the kernel? Just looking for some ideas. The Xoom runs fine after booting.
Here is a short video showing what it does now. This is MUCH better than what it was doing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Uae_Q25pQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
dude..put that thing down, and walk away...my friend lost his arm when his Xoom blew up after one of those glitches!!!!!!
i'm just kidding. that glitch comes with the Tachi kernel, not the Tiamat rom. and according to the notes the developers provided, it's perfectly normal and it stems from updates for the Tegra platform released by nVidia that they integrated into the kernel. so no worries.

What he said. Just chill. It's all good man. Just a few minor graphical glitches. It won't hurt it in the least bit.
That's the best answer we can give you because it's the correct answer, and the only answer as well. The posts before me covered it like a boss.
The graphics glitch, as many have said, is perfectly normal and anticipated by team tiamat.
Now, if during the glitch a strange voice tells you that everyone is against you and they all have to die....call tech support.

Anyone here using CM7 or ICS as daily driver?

Is anyone using CM7 or ICS as their daily driver? I wanted to flash a rom on my kindle and want to know which one would be the best to go with right now. I know they both have their bugs, but which one would be more suitable as a daily driver?
Without a doubt, Cm7. ICS still has many issue's.
Cm7 is what i use. ICS is coming along but cm7 has the least problems right now. Ill upgrade to ICS when most of the bugs are ironed out but for now cm7 is the way to go.
Sent from my CM7 Fire using Tapatalk
Is there any particular bad bugs with CM7, or did they pretty much get rid of most of them?
Running CM7 on two Fire's.
Everything I use works.
Pretty much everything works in CM7, besides the light sensor.
ICS, but then again, I also have my Epic 4G and Transformer.

I guess I will give CM7 a try. The only reason I hesitated was because I thought it was buggy, but based on the responses, it's quite polished. Lastly, can anyone comment on the battery life?

Battery on CM7 is very good. (least in my experience)
I have removed several useless apk's and use a custom kernel, so your experience could vary.
I just switched from the rotted kindle system with golauncher ex to CM7 and I love it.
I've removed useless apps as well and battery seems to be better. Haven't had much use with it yet.
No issues to report with daily use (email, games, internet (dolphin hd))
I made the switch after the latest update unrooted me. Will being on CM7 prevent auto updates in the future?
ive been using ics since video got working...was using cm7 prior both are great, cm7 just has more apps in the marketplace
I've been on the fence waiting for ICS to be good enough for a daily driver, but I can't hold out much longer. If I go with CM7 in the meantime, will it be a relatively painless upgrade to ICS (i.e. wipe and flash), or will I have to revert back to stock first?

You can upgrade directly from CM7 to the ICS rom, which is based on CM9. It's recommended that you do a wipe of the cache, dalvik cache, and factory reset. I also like to wipe system as well, just for good measure.
I have been using the ICS rom since the video fix, and using it as a daily driver. I have virtually no problems with the device. The only thing I noticed doesn't work is USB mounting through system, but I use ES File Explorer to easily get around that. Everything else is working without issue.
ICS Video is only partially working. Still some work to do on that front. So if you are a media junky, best to hold off.
YouTube works. SD only. HQ video's will not play.
Netflix does not work
Qloud does not work

yes, flashing a non-stock ROM will prevent any future OTA updates from amazon.
as for the topic at hand, i'm running the latest ICS build and loving it. is it truly at "daily driver" quality right now? if i'm to be honest, no. it's certainly good enough, though, and since ICS won't be coming to my aging thunderbolt any time soon (if ever), my fire is the only way for me to get a taste of some yummy sammich action.

Which rom for kindle fire is the best so far?

I have tried CM7 but it is not very smooth.
Is there any rom better?
For ICS rom, I have tried the Hashcode Zone one but after flashed the rom, my fire just stuck at the booting animation......so I have only flashed CM7 right now.
Personally I love running whistletop's cm7, it runs super smooth for me, and most importantly HW acceleration works as well as all video (flash, HD YouTUbe), which you currently loose with CM9 until the devs get HW acceleration working. Until then, I'm sticking with CM7.
I've been running Whistlestop's CM7 since late January and it's been great-- no wifi issues, SOD, etc. I'm holding out for hardware video acceleration (and hopefully USB OTG) before I move on to ICS.

ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed recommendation
Since yesterday I am using the ICS CM9 Kang ROM Themed. Before I was using the CM7 barebones. The ICS CM9 Kang ROM is fantastic. It is extremly fast and responsive. The Hardware UI acceleration is not working yet for HD and some times the system frizes. But I can only recommend the use!!
Try this ics ROM at this link:

To me CM7 is the best ROM since everything works. The build in THIS post seems to be slightly better than the other CM7 builds that I've tried.
I've been using jackpot Clavins CM9 on my KF since mid January and love it. While the hardware acceleration doesnt work, everything else runs great. Very fast and newest builds have eliminated SOD issues.
Is there a specific ROM that is Clavin's CM9, or are you building yourself from his github. I see a lot of guys taking his source and making their own ROMs, but nothing specific from Clavin.
Any other opinions on this? I am looking for a ICS Rom which one works the best and is the most stable?
I'm using MIUI from the miui.us, and it's pretty awesome. Still needs some work but sounds like they all do - most issues just seem to be display formatting needing a little tweaking.
You kinda gotta be an MIUI person though, it's a little Apple-esque, not for everyone, though I find tablet usage may be a little less polarizing...

I haven't exactly tested ICS roms extensively, but I'm currently using...
NRGZ28 Energy ICS KANG Rom
I really like it, and the most recent issues fix the Sleep Of Death issues they were having. I would definitely suggest it if your interested in ICS. Get it, flash it, see how it feels and if there's anything that you do that the lack of HW Accel effects. If not then your good.
It comes with NovaLauncher, and since I have a copy of ADW EX, I tried putting that over top of Nova, but I found it to be more sluggish. I would suggest staying pretty much bare bones on what the rom gives you, maybe adjust the awake clocks a little (down clock to 1.0GHz for stock, or under clock it to press the battery out a little further).
MoDaCo would be my suggestion otherwise. It's just Gingerbread, so it's the same old Android stuff. I've never been a huge fan of CM7, but that's just me

I agree that's (IMO) the best ICS ROM at the moment. However, Sleep of Death is still an issue. I'm not sure whether I'm terribly unlucky or what, but I get it every single time I attempt to shut down the KF, no exceptions, ever since 3-15 came out. Never had a SOD on 3-13.
Either way, I second that ROM as awesome among ICS ROMs.
Me likey.

Very happy with it, but am closely watching hashcode's kernel development thread.

Pls write your opinion about ICS ROM's which you are using, what is good, what is wrong . Its will help to make choice for others .
I'm using Flexreaper 6.1.
Good: smooth, fast, Acer ring is nice. Root is OK. TiTanium Backup is OK. No SoD.
Problem : Have random FC of apk's to black screen. In opera mobile have some big spaces on top and end of the site (xda). Face lock not working. During using stock browser have a lot black blinks of screen, look like that tab is off, but after 1,5 sec its o.k.
P.S. Try to solve Opera problem with different settings. nothing help
Looking to other Rom's, but update of civato is almost the same,as he sad.
Thor write that new rom possible in few days.
Icylicious...no SOD, haven't had a FC issue at all. Tried Flexreaper, but had sod. Though i really like the ring, Icylicious is just more reliable on my machine.
basically everything works for my a500 on Icylicious Rom
well this statement has probably been beaten to death on these forums, everyones silicon is different, the best way to see how a rom is, just to try it. Some kernel tweaks make work wonders for some and others may bring your tablet to halt.
Other than that if theres any themeing done just check out the pics on the devs topic for his/hers rom
This made specially, that no need to search 1000+ posts in Dev threads. And not make garbage posts there. So, I not push, who want help to other peoples, welcome.
Thor's v96
Very stable occasional force close but no more than when on HC.
Only thing missing is camera, but that should be on the next release.
Also has occasional screen wakes but that was due to my Lotus Traveler install, and since removing and reinstalling (and an update to the Traveler version running on the corp server) it has resolved.

Taboonay ICS because everything works as far i tested. Stable and fast. The best battery live, 69% left after 3 days. No sleep of death. No unexpected wakekups like on thors rom. Only needs a overclock kernel. It is so usable now. Finally the perfect rom for me.
Also using Taboonay. If I didn't know better, I'd say this might as well be the official RC since everything works so flawlessly. Face unlock works, no FCs, nothing really funny besides a few random speaker pops. I'm very pleased.
Taboonay 3.0.1. Works great and is very clean. Personally I have noticed it handles my company exchange accounts way better than the previous stock 3.2.1.

[Q] Which custom rom is the best? (stable)

I have the Energy ICS rom installed right now and don't like it at all, its just not that stable, on the other hand I don't like the carousel concept. I would like to install something close to stock that isn't going to run my battery dead real fast and the best compatibility with the Kindle Fire's hardware. There are just so many different ones out there, it doesn't have to be ICS, Honeycomb is fine. I was just hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks

Tri4x, out of curiosity were you using the 3/15 version of Energy or the 3/19? I flashed 3/15 on my kindle, and I loved the interface, but once it started getting sleep of death I thought "well I guess I'm going back to stock".
When I saw the 3/19 update in action I was actually really impressed at the improvement. Lack of HW Accel does suck though.
b63 Already suggested MoDaCo if you would prefer a stock rom, I've considered flashing back just to get HW Accel back. It's a really good rom, feels very smooth.

I've been using Energy ROM for about a week and not a single time have I thought about going back to stock, not even due to lack of HWA (yes, I miss netflix from time to time, but since I don't really watch that much TV/Movies on the go I guess is just a particular case where I am not that much affected) plus since changing to ICS I find myself using more my KF as a real tablet and not just a glorified e-reader.
Using 3/19 release of Energy and not seeing a lot of issues others are reporting (SOD only a couple of times)
Just my 2 cents
Hi all!
After reading around and searching for custom roms for the KF, I still do not completely get to the point. This is what I understand
- Stock ROM mods only play around with some installed apps, google market, root
- CM7 is Gingerbread and supports HWA
- Energy CM9 is based on ICS and lacks HWA support (currently on my KF)
What I don't understand is, why CM9 cannot use the kernel from CM7 or Stock.
Does ICS rely on certain kernel features? Or what is the reason?
Thanks.
P.S. If this is an RTFM in any way I'd appreciate being directed to the right point.
I'll put ashes on my hair myself, than.

The second I know. But I could not find out why it is so important to use a newer kernel.
The first link sheds some light. I'll dig deeper which parts of the Android framework are responsible for the userland <-> kernel connection and how they are "version" (GB / ICS) relevant.
Thank you for the links. I did my first Linux port for a custom ARM HW 13 years ago. Russel would never send links. Got flamed more than once ;-)
