So I am going on a cruise in two days and obviously am bringing my phone. I was hoping I could turn everything but wifi off as to avoid roaming charges. I know i can turn data off but am not sure how to turn off the actual phone itself. Any suggestions?

turn off data and dont answer any calls...or call verizon and have them deactivate the device.
Oh, I didn't realize it was that simple. For some reason I thought that if the phone is looking for a signal in roaming, since it's out of country, that it would charge me. Thank you!

what about airplane mode? disables the radio (including calls, texts, etc) but still allows wifi and all other use of the mode. most custom roms can enable it by holding the power button and selecting it, otherwise find it under network settings.

I'm in the Dominican Republic now. Phone is in airplane mode and I just turn on wifi and other radios/sensors as needed.
Also check out grooveip + Google voice for free calls.

For some odd reason, my rooted d2 is losing the 3G, requiring a reset. This usually happens when the phone returns from being locked. Not every time.
Is this a stock rooted D2 or are you running a custom ROM?
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
no custom roms
The only mods I made are rooting, clockwork recovery. I have not used any roms. I googles it, and found that many people (read mostly about droid x) have the same issue. They also do the same thing (power down, and reboot). *228 does not fix this, its a froyo issue.

i have the same issue.. 3g disappears a lot, im rooted with no roms
3G dropping with WIFI enabled
Mine does this too, and is also stock 2.2 brand new and rooted, but I think it was doing it before rooting. Have you tried disabling the WIFI notfication? I think maybe it keeps dumping 3G when it detects WIFI available in the area. When I disable WIFI it seems to hold 3G OK.
Tried It Today

I tried this today, and I will update if that helps. For others trying this, first you need to turn on the wifi, then UNCHECK (so the check mark is not green) the Network notification box, then turn off the wireless. Thanks.
If you get a WIFI connection with internet, your 3G icon will disappear. It's supposed to be like that.

+1, that sounds like the problem to me, as when it wakes up from a lock the icon would switch from 3g to wifi
works like a charm

Not a problem, let us know if you need anything else
check what mode you have the battery saver on if its on maximum battery saver it will shut off 3g to conserve battery life
Hello everyone..
here is my problem....
I no longer have cellular service from sprint, lets say sprint disconnected it...
ok so i have my evo and a bunch of things i can still do with it.
but! why is it that i cant turn off just the "cellular" radio without it going into plane mode? keep in mind im not talking about "go into wireless mode and uncheck mobile" that only turns off 3g and leaves the phone COMPLETELY ON.
i mean, i dont have the service why do i still have to put it in airplane mode (and on evo's you cant use bluetooth while on that mode)
is there an apk that i can delete so the "phone" feature is gone and no longer shows my the strength bars without the need for airplane mode? its annoying to have to turn on my "PMP" and have to see the airplane on there.
you can use titanium backup to uninstall the phone, then keep mobile networks unchecked and your good to go
edit I think it may still search for signal

installing them wouldn't solve your problem, now I'm thinking delete the prl and set it to roaming only but that would drain the battery fast, that's a toughy, lemme think about it a bit
edit it would be easy if you didn't need bluetooth
Nope, there's no real way to do it. You bought a phone, not an iPod. Live with Airplane mode or get service.
you could kill the radio process in os monitor, unsure of its exact name though
edit ill 2nd dr on this one, theres no good way
Get the app "Network" by Mangelow. It has a button to turn off just the radio.

I was looking for something like this too. In an area with very little signal, having the radio on is just annoying because it never gets signal, so it drains battery forever, even more because it is constantly scanning. This is perfect for that.
Now if someone could make a widget for this switch...
How does the battery drain? If sprint disconnected your phone it won't keep searching for a network. I have my old phone that laid for over 5 days without charge when I hot my evo... that was both the moment and intercept

It will still actually be connected to the network, you just wont be able to make calls or get texts. This is required for all cell phones, so you can still call 911, or call the carrier to re-activate the phone if you ever want to.
I am running .588 and I restored my data after coming from the original gb (.573) leak. I loose my 3g connection at least once a day. Sometime when I toggle the airplane mode it works and I connect back to 3g, but i that does not work I just reboot the phone. Anyone else having this issue? We need feedback to see if its a hardware or software issue in gb. The reason I cannot confirm if it is s/w or h/w issue I received a replacement phone when the .588 came out. I cannot compare both builds with same device. I am going to revert to .573 to see if it continues. I will post back with outcome.
Thanks in advance

I have had this issue also. The toggling of airplane mode usually works for me too. Although yesterday it didn't and I had to reboot the phone.

The airplane mode does not work for me. Someone recommended to use an app called signal refresh. My main concern is if its a s/w of h/w.

I have this problem, as well. I used the Monster SBF to get to .340, installed GB, and restored only user apps with Titatium Backup. Airplane mode works for me sometimes. Every now and then my phone will go into airplane mode and lock up, forcing me to do a battery pull...
I was on the old gb leak and restored data in clockwork after moving to the new gb. I haven't had the problem yet today. (Knock on wood)

Same
I'm seeing the 3G drop as well. Of course i only notice it since i'm tethering my wifi xoom to the droid (method irrelevant). Airplane mode works for me.
Mine drops out and stays out all the damn time. Sometimes airplane toggling is enough, sometimes I have to re-boot the phone and then toggle airplane mode and other times just turning WiFi off works well enough. It happens on my Wife's D2 constantly as well. We've missed plenty of calls (google voice pops up letting me know I have messages from missed calls even though the phone didn't ring and we have big problems texting throughout the day).
We're both going back to Liberty right now cuz this is BS. Hopefully this will get fleshed out for the final OTA and I can see why Verizon hasn't approved either leak yet. And even more hopefully it's not the new radio, and if it is hopefully SBF-ing back to 340 will fix it. If it doesn't, do any of the older SBF's work with the 340/588 bootloaders and also contain older radio firmware?

Update:
re-flashed GB. went two days with no signal problems, but this morning I lost my 3g connection. I have a feeling that it has to do with the hand-off between the wifi and 3g connection. I have tried to duplicate the issue but I cannot duplicate it. Also one thing I notice is when my 3g is not working and only shows the 4 grey bars I cannot make outgoing calls but calls do come in. Weird....
Javiggan69
I have been running into the same issue on both of the leaked versions.

I have been searching and reading and I have notice a couple of people are having the same issue. Have you tried to call your phone when the 3g is down?

It's one of the issues. Not fixable now.

Its a known bug? I have looked everywhere to see if people were having the same issue and couldn't find anything.

I am getting this also on the leaked GB :/
Took me TWO reboots to get 3G back!
Yep, it's all over. Despite what some may claim, the leaked GB(claimed OTA) is not without bugs.

That blows. I have also notice that my wife's phone does the same thing, its a Droid 2.
Thanks

has anyone noticed when this happens that your 3g icon and the signal bars go from blue to a white/grayish color? i have to reboot mine eveytime and then it works perfectly fine for another few days.....
Mine do that, but they turn blue one I starting using data
I have AT&T Galaxy S4 32gb running lastest firmware MDL. (stock rooted). Today I randomly lost any data going to my phone. It still showed I was on 4G with 3-4 bars but I tried to open Pandora and it would not connect, I also tried going to the PlayStore about 45 minutes later and it did not connect. I disabled Mobile Data and re-enabled it and all is working fine.
I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?
Canadian S4 here, just happened to me. Rebooted, toggled data on and off, still didnt work, finally had to turn airplane mode on and off to get it to work again.

Carrier related most likely nothing to do with the phone. If it was software MORE people would have the issue.
Hello i have some problems with my N910C Samsung Note 4
-First when i try to call someone screen is turning off .
-When i try to send voice message on whatsapp screen is turning off and when i try to listen my voice message the sound is coming from headphones not from the speakers.
-My phone has network problems i try stock rom and e robot but there was no fix. LTE never working when it change network to LTE i cant even call and anybody cant call me. When it switches to WCDMA/GSM works for a while. After that when put it in my pocket or leave it on the desk or something after 30 minutes noone can call me its all disconnects from the networks. I need to close and open again .
Only works in 2g mode
I already tried some solutions. I changed my sim card. i bring it to service they even changed some parts related to signal didnt work. I flashed a few roms and a few modems, kernels didnt worked. I checked all sensors everything works perfectly.
Now my phone is not working good. All of my friends calling me even my phone is open they cant reach me.
Please somebody help me ..
