When i download and install an App from the Android Market where the Apk installation file is temporary placed? Which path?
tnx in advance
the apk's are stored at /data/app and /data/app-private after you installed the app and will be removed if you uninstall it.
Tnx for the answer mopodo, but if i hard reset the device, can i will use theese files to reinstall them?
i'm sorry for my bad english...

No, you can make a backup to your SD card with apps like MyBackup or Backup For Root Users.
So which is the temp path of the downloaded apk from market?
i want to grab them...

of course you can.
you just have to copy them to your sdcard or pc an install them again, with «adb install something.apk» or «Astro File Manager» (or a similar file managerapp)
a hard reset will delete everything on «/data»
If you have root copy the contents of both folders to your SD card.
mkdir /sdcard/apps
cp /data/app/* /sdcard/apps
cp /data/app-private/* /sdcard/apps
Then after you wipe (I've never heard anyone call it a 'hard reset' before) you can use an app like Astore or ApkInstaller to reinstall them.
If you don't have root then not only will you not be able to read app-private, but your ROM wont have busybox so you wont be able to bash in those commands. In that case use an app like Astro or AppManager to copy non-private apks to the sdcard, but for private apps you'll have to redownload them (without being charged of course.)

Only if they're non-private (reside in /app, private being /app-private).
He's probably coming from WinMo. We called a factory reset/wipe a hard reset.

Slightly off topic lol But i see you said Private does that mean you could manually back up Private apps you buy off market by just copying them /w root access?
When I run the following from an adb shell, with or without SU root:
cp /data/app/* <my location on sd>
I always get:
cp: permission denied
In fact, no matter how or where I cp from or to, and no matter what I am trying to copy, even if I leave all arguments blank, I still get "cp: permission denied" -- I have busybox installed in /system/xbin from /data/local and as far as I can tell it installed ok. Phone is a rooted Sprint hero 1.56.651.2 running stock ROM.
I have also tried to 'adb pull /data/app' and it always find 0 files. None of this is a big deal for me, however, as I am just trying to backup a bunch of apks for free apps in case versions change too much. Mostly just curious...
Any ideas?
EDIT: Both Astro and AppManager handled the (non-private) apk backups fine -- so I have no real need for the cp method to work, but I am still wondering why it will not -- is it the adb shell? must I use a terminal emulator from on the phone instead? something else? Anyways, if I really want to pursue it, perhaps I should take it to a busybox thread at this point...
EDIT2: It appears as if the 'cp' command as I was running it wasn't getting passed through busybox (not sure why). From what I can piece together reading other threads, it seems that if you have installed busybox on top of a ROM that doesn't already have it (like stock, after rooting and recovery setup) than you must prefix commands with 'busybox' when entered, as in 'busybox cp /data/app/* <my location>' and it does work for me that way. Still cannot seem to copy /data/app-private which I thought having root access would allow -- I guess I just don't understand nearly enough about busybox implementation, linux permissions, and, well, linux in general.
You could try an app manager and back 'em up from there.
Just try the following command.
busybox cp /data/app/* /sdcard/<your backup loc>

Well in windows
'adb pull' is used if that helps
I`m trying to setup app2sd.
1. i wiped both SD and cache and data
2. installed latest Desire ROM
Did all these steps with no errors
adb remount
adb push 04apps2sd /system/etc/init.d/
adb push e2fsck /system/xbin
adb shell
chmod 755 /system/xbin/e2fsck
chmod 755 /system/etc/init.d/04apps2sd
mkdir /system/sd
Sill no more than 100 MB free space
I tried deleting /system/sd to recreate it because it seams i have 2 directories: 1 is called SD and the oder is called sd with a squre next to it. No matter where i try i cannot delete it because it is in use.
When i try all newly installed apps dissapear and i cannot access them anymore (need to re-download from market)
I tried booting into recovery, but there the sd folder does not exist.
Also booting takes 3-4 minutes and it always boot's twice (1 time reset)
Any ideas?
Any luck on this? I was planning on trying to setup app2sd on a desire rom using this method too..
Apologies if this has been discussed before, I have been researching this for a few days now and have tried every single method that has been advised but was unable to replace the hosts file from my Desire with a custom one. Seems the methods used for the Hero and other Android phones do not work on the Desire. Has anyone managed to replace the default 'hosts' file with a custom one?
My Desire IS rooted. I have tried the adb push method after deleting original file and remounting, I always get an error, something 'cannot allocate space' or similar. I have also tried using Root Explorer, again it says the file is too big. If I make the hosts file smaller by removing some data from it, it copies it, then the phone restarts itself and then when i check, the old hosts file is back (the original hosts file only has one entry for local host 127.0.0.1). I also tried editing the hosts file on the device using Root Explorer, I save, then the phone restarts and all the changes are lost. I seem to have tried all the possibilities and had no joy.
And before you ask, yes, I tried installing the AdFree app from the market, it doesn't seem to do anything, and sometimes it does restart my phone as well.
Any advice how to sort this out would be much appreciated.
are you doing all this in recovery mode?
Hello,
i have created a patched Adfree app for Desire
Adree now loads the hosts-file to
/sdcard/etc/hosts
i have removed /system/etc/hosts
and symlinked to /sdcard/etc/hosts
after the first start klick on "revert" and then on "Update & Install Hosts"
after that you can edit the Hosts file in /sdcard/etc/hosts and it will be used by android system
all files attached
(start in recovery using recovery script,
after that run the install script - STEP1 inside,
reboot into System
run install Script - STEP2)
please tell me if it wont work for you

But i have some bug: get java.io.EOFExecepion error when i try to update.
ect/hosts folder on sd, installed apk by rootexplorer
where is the problem? I have just pushed my custom hosts file to /system/etc in recovery and it works without any problems.
Just mount /system in the root recovery and push it...
my hosts is from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664532

seems to be a random error.

@ aslocum
the problem is, that you cant update the file if the system is running. but if u symlink it, it is possible
How many times do you update the hosts file? The hosts from the thread I linked is really good and optimized. better the the adfree one.i do not need to update it till we get full write access...

you are right, it is not necessary to update the hosts-file all the time,
but i like it to add / replace the file even when im not near to a PC.
i thought it is a solution, and i want to share it with all the others.
No offense to you sometimes im also in the mood just to make something work and others wont understand why
Most times its also fun to make things work

Hey kingchris,
Thanks for your efforts in creating the patched version. I have installed your apk, put the hosts file on the sdcard in /etc folder. Ran the app, clicked revert, it said Success, then Download and install Hosts, it went ok, now it says 'No need to update, your system already has the latest version. I click ok, but it doesn't seem to block any ads. Not sure what to do. Does the app have to be running in the background to work?
Trying to run the install script I got the following:
C:\adfreepatched>install-adfree-windows-step1.bat
C:\adfreepatched>adb-windows.exe shell mount /system
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -

Sorry for being such an ignorant
i have created a new version of the fiel with a step1 and step2 batch
boot into recovery.
run recovery-windows.bat
run install-adfree-windows-step1.bat
reboot into your normal system
install-adfree-windows-step2.bat
then start adfree
if you get the Error Message try it again.
i think this is not an error created by the modification,
this is a problem on checking and downloading the hosts file
i made an error in the first script
in the script i wrote adb mount but it has to be adb shell mount
Uninstalled the program, deleted the /etc/hosts from my sdcard and started all over. If i boot into recovery mode and I get to the green recovery screen, I can no longer type any commands from the terminal window. If I reboot into Android, I run the two install commands and here are the results:
C:\adfreepatched2>install-adfree-windows-step1.bat

C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe shell ln -s /sdcard/etc/hosts /system/etc/host

ln: /system/etc/hosts: File exists
C:\adfreepatched2>install-adfree-windows-step2.bat
C:\adfreepatched2>adb-windows.exe install signed-Adfree_patched.apk
812 KB/s (39004 bytes in 0.046s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/signed-Adfree_patched.apk
Success
The program is installed on my phone, it says Update found, i press ok, then click on Revert, all it does is it restarts my phone. Here, I went and replaced the 1KB hosts file from /sdcard/etc/ with the one in your folder, then when I clicked Revert, it said Success! Your hosts file has been restored. I then clicked Download & install hosts, and it said Success! your Android device should now be AdFree, however you might need to reboot to clear your cache. I rebooted the device. Ran AdFree again and it says your good to go! No need to update, your system already has the latest version.
So I guess it should now be working?
I installed a few 'free' apps from the market to see if I get the adds, and sure they are there.
For some reason, I still think it is using the /system/etc/hosts version instead of the version on the sdcard.

you have to open a second Command,if you are in the green recovery console
and run the step1.bat there
if you type after you have done all the steps
cd system
cd etc
ls -al *host*
you should see something like
lrwxrwxrwx 1 0 0 17 May 13 04:43 hosts -> /sdcard/etc/hosts
then its rights
I got that, thanks, but please read the second part of my last message and tell me do you think that is ok? I have installed Adfree, it says it is up to date, but it is still not blocking ads, apparently.
sould be right now
That's what I thought, but is there another way to tes apart from running apps that use adds? I tried by putting a few sites taken from the hosts file into the browser, and it opens all of them I have a customised hosts file on my pc as well, and it works like a charm.
then use your customized one. idk if the files from adfree uptodate. but i can say it will work
Finally Adfree working

Thanks a lot man, seems to be working ok now, I have had so much trouble getting this to work, finally working.
I have successfully updated adfree with your file. Thanks so much.
Sorry to ask a silly question...
because when I boot into the recovery mode, I can see several options available but I cannot choose them.
I hold volume down & power on, then I select "recovery" & press "power" again that means I choose this option then it goes into recovery mode, right? In the recovery mode, I cannot choose anything because if I press any button it simply turns off the monitor! What should I do??
(I take out the battery to complete the reboot........... There must be some other ways?)

Hi all,
I am having issues activating app2sd ver2 with Kyrillos 8! After flashing the ROM, i removed the script "Hybrid Data2SD" inside the /etc/init.d and pushed the script "Apps2sd" ver 2. After that i rebooted in recovery, created ext partition, wiped data. But even after that i cannot see that partition in TB! Is it such that in G3MOD 2.0, TB will not show the partition irrespective of the script.
When i looked at the log(app2sd.log) of app2sd inside /data/misc/app2sd, i could see some errors like shown below :-
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /system/sd failed: Device or resource busy
mount: mounting /system/sd/app on /data/app failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /system/sd/log on /data/log failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /system/sd/dalvik-cache on /data/dalvik-cache failed: No such file or directory
Should i manually create the folders inside /system/sd? Could anyone tell me as to what is that which i am doing wrong in order to activate app2sd ver2?
PS: I have raised this query in general as well as dvpmt forums of Kyrillos, but didnt get any response.
Thanks in advance!

I updated to 8.1 !! And still when i check the log folder inside "/data/misc/app2sd.log", i see the previous errors which i have stated in my earlier post. And inside the /system/sd there are no folders, whereas as per the script it should have folders like "log","app" and "dalvik-cache".
I just want to enable App2sd in this ROM! I tried with the G3MOD app also to activate App2sd, but still doesnt work! When i check via G3MOD app, it says the app2sd is not activated whereas when i check in KMApp it says its been activated!
For me Hybrid data2sd feels sluggish and thus i would like to use App2sd! Could you just share the steps to be followed to use App2sd in kyrillos 8.1. I havent copied the folders to sdcard and so i guess i havent enabled hybrid data2sd! After flashing, i have just created partition and waiting for a solution to enable app2sd!

I did the same steps, and got the error in the log file which i have stated in my first post.
And I guess Hybrid data2sd is not an init.d script. Hillbeast says that deleting won't disable it. You need to delete the fs.data2sd from the G3MOD config folder.
Now after trying link2sd, it looks cool to me! If i just delete the script of data2sd or app2sd from /etc/init.d, would it make sure that none of them will be getting used.

I replied to your comment in kyrillos thread...
I said try deleting the files that you place into your sd card to enable hybrid data2sd when you flash kyrillos. This might be the reason. I'm not very advanced when it comes to technology so i'm limited to how i can help

So, before I do a firmware update (In this case 4.2.2 to 4.3 OTA) I do a Titanium backup and a TWRP backup and copy both sets of backup files to my PC; it obviously makes no sense to only have backups on the device you are backing up. I upgraded to TWRP 2.6.0.0, did a full backup, and as usual I went to copy my backup files over to my Windows 7 computer using Windows Explorer and I can only get a couple of the files to move over. No warning, no error, no nuttin. This has always worked before......Did something change, and if so, how do I fix it?
I see from another post that TWRP changed the permissions of the backup files in the latest version of the program, and in my case the location as well. The workaround is to a) change the permissions on all those backup files, which I could see the nightmare problems that could cause later on when doing a restore and/or the security issues or b) doing an adb pull.
SOLVED.
The adb pull did the trick. All files were transferred over to my PC.
I had several issues getting adb to work:
1) I had an old version of the SDK installed on my PC which was causing a devices not recognized problem or something similar.
2) I didn't notice the message about verifying the RSA on my phone, which once verified, fixed the phone "offline" problem.
3) The screen lock on my phone was coming on after its timeout and locking me out from seeing the phone.
reverted to twrp 2.5.0.0
Same problem here with Google Nexus i9250 / twrp 2.6.0.0 / win7 64bit. Tried to copy backup of (BOOT/SYSTEM/DATA) via MTP or ftp from Nexus to PC. Only the first two files (boot.emmc.win/-md5) were copied. After downgrading to twrp 2.5.0.0 everthing was fine.
I had the same problem. It is caused by strange suid permissions set by TWRP. Solved it using chmod 0664 /data/media/0/TWRP/... (as root)
I was not able to adb pull before changing the files' permissions.
More details here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44120545&postcount=14
(Google found that HTC One thread first, so I didn't search any further)
Type this in Terminal Emulator:
su
busybox chown - R 1023.1023 /data/media/*
That should solve all permissions problems.
I had no trouble at all by doing the following:
Access the sdcard from /data/media/0
Copy data.ext4.win and system.ext4.win to a temporary location.
(The "Set UID" and "Set GID" permissions were automatically removed. If not, you can change them from here.)
Copy the files to PC using MTP.
The remaining backup files from the TWRP directory can be copied normally.
Done
Note: You can instead just change the permissions on these two files inside the TWRP directory, but I did the temporary location copy just to be safe.

Did you plug/unplug your device after running this command? There shouldn't be any problems. Furthermore, now you should be able to copy your TWRP and TiBu backups successfully to your computer. It's a pretty straight forward process.
Im on twrp 2.5.0.0 with Android 4.3. I cant copy the BACKUP folder directly to my PC with the default windows explorer because the backup isnt stored in /sdcard/TWRP. How can I fix this? I used to be able to do this without adb push/pull...

Since my original post 3 months ago I updated all my programs to 4.3 friendly versions as each was released (superuser 1.0.2.1, Windows drivers, TWRP 2.6.3.0, etc.) and now I don't need to do adb pulls any more and I can just copy and paste files from my phone to my pc and all files are copied over without missing any of them. Now I see the updated programs are already starting to show up for Android 4.4; here we go again.
Now see 0 / legacy emulated

I'm sorry, I made a mistake there. The correct command is:
su
busybox chown -R 1023.1023 /data/media/*
I wrote 1013.1023 and it's 1023.1023

Hi just wondering, Is there a way to cancel this command (just add a +R maybe) I did it on my phone and I think it may be the cause that I have a Legacy emulated 0 path problem Ive searched around and cant seem to find a solution. Thanks

What's the problem? That's a valid path.
Legacy emulated 0

I have an external sd (sdcard1) = /storage/sdcard1 so gr8 but then I have emulated (??) Storage/emulated/legacy and Storage/emulated/0 and sdcard0 storage/sdcard0 they were complety different folders been reading around seems to be a problem with cm when I go from 4.2 and over my phone is a e970 att, cant delete the emulated folder... already erased all my data previously, any help will do,I'm almost sure it had nothing to do with the chown command but had to give a try.

No, it doesn't have anything to do with this command since it's just a way to set different permissions.
