Does it matter if it's Korean or Chinese? For the avg person (except hondroid, he's special) that don't know either Korean or Chinese it doesn't matter. Language would look the same.

I just thought the OP could have been talking about a different app?
Btw, I am an average person who doesn't know chinese or korean. Not sure how you can say they look the same. They look completely different. I guess written german and written russian look the same to you too?
OK, above post edited to make hondroid happy.

lol since when do you have to actually know the language to tell them apart when they LOOK obviously different?
Pretty much everyone can look at a chinese writing and a korean writing and discern them as different languages even if they know nothing about the language or have never seen them before.
If a chinese person and a korean person were standing next to each other, noway I would be able to tell the difference but the written forms of their language is obviously different.
wait, why would one who doesn't speak or write neither know which is.which? That doesn't make sense

You wouldn't be able to identify them but you can still tell that they are different because they LOOK different.
Assume you don't know English or Russian, never heard or saw them in your life. If someone showed you a paper written in English and a paper written in Russian, you would still know that they are 2 different languages.
You are assuming that everyone sees them side by side. Obviously if you see the same phrase in both languages you could tell the difference, however, someone who knows nothing about foreign language... Especially symbols, won't be able to tell a difference without a direct comparison.
You need to realize that the average American is culturally retarded (no offense, I'm American) and when looking at other languages, especially symbols, will default to what they consider the most primary Asian race in their mind... Most cases this is China.
I find it funny that you say you can tell the differences in their written languages but not their physical appearance... That seems a bit backwards to me, as we are generally exposed to a diversity of people in our day to day lives but rarely do we see enough of other countries languages to become familiar with them. I for one generally know if someone is Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc... But can barely tell the difference in their written language, the spoken language is different. I can also tell the difference in the spoken language as well... Most times at least.
Anyways, just want to give my thoughts on this very weird and unnecessary tangent.

From wikipedia
For over a millennium, Korean was written with adapted Chinese characters called hanja, complemented by phonetic systems like hyangchal, gugyeol, and idu. In the 15th century, a national writing system called hangul was commissioned by Sejong the Great, but it only came into widespread use in the 20th century, because of the yangban aristocracy's preference for hanja.

Does anyone else have issues understanding the woman's voice on your HD2?
She sounds like a mentally challenged person from India (sorry to be so politically incorrect, but there's no other example I can come up with).
Is there anything I can do to change how she sounds or am I stuck not being able to understand hardly anything she says?
I'm from India...and she doesn't understand what i say most of the times, I have to speak with an American accent for her to understand me. So i bet she's not Indian and yeah, what you said was offensive.

ok....if you have a windows OS on your PC....you can use text to speech(Control Panel--->speech--->somewhere in there) and practice hearing the woman speak out whatever you type. Then you should get used to understanding the woman on the HD2. I guess that would help.

lolerskates, there used to be a tweak I used on my TP2 that would slow the voice down and make it easier to understand (not a whole lot, but enough for me)...however it was part of the settings tool built just for that phone, and I haven't yet seen something like that for the HD2. But that's what I would start looking for in your case, the tweak or regedit (probably won't be a cab) that slows down the MSVC voice...I'm guessing it would work across platforms if you just knew the reg entry it changes.
currently there are only 7 languages available... is there any way to implement more in a future release (custom rom or patch)? i' ve read somewhere that this is a google subject and acer can't do anything about it... (i think a user send an email to acer about it and they answered that)...

The problem is easily solved through market for the keyboard languages.
But the issue of the honeycomb ui, can' t be solved with an application...
By the way, multiling is a nice one, i use smart keyboard but the layout isn' t satisfying in landscape mode, so i'll give it a try...
The keyboard is not the problem... the keyboard has a lot more languages than the Ui.
I´m going to make a call to the norwegian support tomorrow and ask about more languages and especially Norwegian for my part.
I got mine from Scotland a week ago, and hoped it had all the languages as i´m used to from my HTC phones. But no such luck.
This device has now been released in Norway, and i hope they can give me the rom.

I have now spoken to the Norwegian support team and they say that as long as I have bought this outside of scandinavia, it will not support other languages. And they have not got any rom to give out. So I can eathe wait for an official scandinavian update or install what he called a "unlisenced" program/rom from some developer. If I installed from a developer it would not take away the warranty on the product only take away the support on the program.
So i hope someone can take a scandinavian A500 and get out the rom and post it here so we can get support on more languages. The scandivavian models usually have a lot of languages installed.

I doubt it that there is a scandinavian version because acer mentioned that it is google's issue the language support. I bought it here in Greece and installed there are: english, french, german, italian, spanish and two chinese i think.
I'm surprised by the fact that they advised you to install a custom rom... custom rom demands root, root means hacking, can harm the device (if you perform overclock for example or bricking the device if something goes wrong) in any way the warranty is over... as far as i know from my mobile phones so far, there isn't such "dual" warranty, one for software and one for hardware simply because software (especially custom) can damage hardware...

I totally agree with what you are saying. I was a bit shocked that he sugested what he did. I will contact one of the stores here in Norway that sells the A500 and ask if there is Norwegian language on the one they sell. If it is that's great....if its not...then Google have some job to do on the gingerbread. We can't live with just those languages.
Edit: Just got of the phone with a norwegian retaler and they could confirm that the A500 that they sell do have Norwegian UI.

1. Favorites is now spelled correctly when set to US English in the dialer! (Can any UK English users confirm if "Favourites" still exists when using UK English?)
2. Disabling of Airplane mode now gives a pop-up confirmation.
3. Polar Office is updated.
4. The ICS theme elements in the dialer seem to have been removed. Back to standard TW.
Any others you've noticed?

Well, yes, I should have said that Favorites is spelled correctly in US English, which is the version I use.
Is it incorrectly using the US Spelling when setting the default to UK English where it should then read "Favourites" as it did before in both?
Too bad, because if it is, the dialer surely has the option to change languages completely, because if I set my phone to use Spanish, everything changes correctly.
I just prefer US English. I have edited the OP to better reflect this.

Thanks for noticing, and I agree. The international "flavor" of this place is something I enjoy!
The comment wasn't intended as a display any nationalism on my part, because (obviously) as you pointed out, I'm not an American, I just prefer (when not using Spanish) to use US English in my phone, which I tend to do almost all the time, and I was just wondering if the error was still there in the dialer, because I know that it was there until KL3, and it sort of bothered me because it showed a level of sloppiness of Samsung's part that they didn't devote much attention to the small details such as UI language, etc.
I wasn't trying to start a war with Canada, because I can see how using the same colors as the US flag, when combined with the similar use of stars (though, in fairness, we are missing 48 of them) can be confusing at times.
Peace.
No need to explain your spelling preference. Apologies for the derailment.

Dear all,
I know there are already many threads asking about if Atrix 4G is capable of two-way call recording, and in short the answer is no due to some firmware issue.
Well, I just flashed the official firmware by Motorola for Atrix 4G model sold in China into my AT&T model, and two-way call recording turns out to be one of the functions by default.
This is not a cooked rom, though there are some cooked roms based on this official rom that also have the same function.
I just want to let you know that ATRIX 4G can do call recording beautifully, without any compromise, even for my AT&T model.
Please kindly not to start the legal debate (or even worse) again, as I just want to share this piece of information with you, and I fully respect your view on the moral and legal implications of call recording.
I missed Dark Force and CM7, but I just need call recording fuction so badly that I have to use this official, bloated room by Motorola. Hopefully one day we can find call recording function in those wonderful cooked roms.
Interesting. Where did you find this "official" firmware?
Edit: never mind, I found it. Thanks for the info!

I'm not a legal expert to make a comment on this, so if any senior member is interested in porting this feature please let me know how can I help.
I registered XDA user account to post this finding because I thought it could be useful to some Atrix users.
I bought my Atrix in the U.S. but I live in Taiwan.
The Atrix sold in Taiwan has no voice recording capability either.
Yet the Samsung Galaxy S2 and many other phones sold here does have such feature by default.
So I assume it is sometimes a decision made by the manufacturer, at least in some countries other than the U.S.
NO in the usa it is totally illegal to record a phone conversatio without the express written concent of all partys involved thus creating a lyability for people who create such software and or implement it

Thanks for your input, and hopefully it concludes the legal side discussion in this thread.
Once again I'm totally fine with how it is in the U.S., and I assume there are Atrix users like me who live outside the U.S. as well.
There's a few apps that work fine on my SGS and not my Atrix. One of them is ANY program that allows you to listen to music with a single (mono) Bluetooth earpiece. That for instance is not an issue on my regular SGS.
Besides call recording, (and bluetooth music) I often wonder if the phone is purposely locking it out, or just bad programming on the STOCK ROM itself?...

Can you guide me, how you were able to do this, are you able to tether in the Chinese version.
i find the search to be great when it works but quite often it picks up the wrong words. i am from birmingham england so my accent is rather different to the american accent it was probably designed to work with.
does it adapt to accents?
if i wanted to play the transformers movie on my device, is there a command i could give for it to do this or am i expecting too much of it?
Well the voice search is simply a search on google, it will also search google maps youtube and other google services for your results, I dont think siri could play a movie, the name is too confusing for that piece of garbage. As for your accent im sure thats the problem. Try to pronounce everything clearly and dont leave out letters like some british people do in words like car, my friend says caaaa lol but im not sure if it adapts to your accent. Edit: I'm just now looking at the settings and all you have to do is press english and it will give you the dialect menu, you know what to pick
thanks mate.
i already have it on uk english but i will try talking a little clearer.
still be good to find out what all the types of commands it understands are. wonder if there is a published list somewhere?
