1. Favorites is now spelled correctly when set to US English in the dialer! (Can any UK English users confirm if "Favourites" still exists when using UK English?)
2. Disabling of Airplane mode now gives a pop-up confirmation.
3. Polar Office is updated.
4. The ICS theme elements in the dialer seem to have been removed. Back to standard TW.
Any others you've noticed?
The getting called screen is back to how it was before KL1, phone icon is back too. I'm talking about KL1 dev-release.
Ha ha, favourites is the correct spelling here in the UK and favorites is the bad spelling.

Well, yes, I should have said that Favorites is spelled correctly in US English, which is the version I use.
Is it incorrectly using the US Spelling when setting the default to UK English where it should then read "Favourites" as it did before in both?
Too bad, because if it is, the dialer surely has the option to change languages completely, because if I set my phone to use Spanish, everything changes correctly.
I just prefer US English. I have edited the OP to better reflect this.

Thanks for noticing, and I agree. The international "flavor" of this place is something I enjoy!
The comment wasn't intended as a display any nationalism on my part, because (obviously) as you pointed out, I'm not an American, I just prefer (when not using Spanish) to use US English in my phone, which I tend to do almost all the time, and I was just wondering if the error was still there in the dialer, because I know that it was there until KL3, and it sort of bothered me because it showed a level of sloppiness of Samsung's part that they didn't devote much attention to the small details such as UI language, etc.
I wasn't trying to start a war with Canada, because I can see how using the same colors as the US flag, when combined with the similar use of stars (though, in fairness, we are missing 48 of them) can be confusing at times.
Peace.
No need to explain your spelling preference. Apologies for the derailment.

Greetings, I am sure I could discover all about MIUI if I looked hard enough, but I thought it might be useful if we had our own Nexus S place where someone like me who has never used or seen MIUI in action could hear from those with previous experience.
I understand its very different from normal android but in which important ways? Are widgets the same? Is the market the same? Will we still have Voodoo sound and colour? Does the app drawer still apply? You see where I am driving at!
please share knowledge and questions...
I have very limited experience with miui I'll admit but I can answer a few of your questions. Most things are the same however it has its own customer launcher and home replacement for which there is no app drawer. All apps are placed on homescreens for the minuit launcher however you can use adw or lpp and have an app drawer back.

Well its just like any other ROM, kernels will have to be customized for it. I'm sure someone will release a voodoo sound/color equipped kernel for it soon.
Its definitely a switch but one worth giving a shot. I tried it on my Evo but couldn't get Swype working and at the time I was more in love with Swype then I was with any ROM so I gave up after only giving it a few hours. I plan to give it a much more fair chance this time but its a little difficult getting things set up when half of everything is in chinese lol

I personally love MIUI. The lockscreen, when they get it, looks fantastic and nice. The menu screen is extremely different. If you look at the pics you'll see what it looks like. That takes some time getting used. All the apps are on the homescreen now, similar to iOS. You can create folders to organize them. You can also add all the widgets you normally get from the market, on there. The messenger has been modified, it a very good way. It looks really good. Everything else is the same.

one thing that strikes me regarding the original MIUI ROM being chinese natively... is that AOS is supposed to be roughly international No?
even if it installs as Chinese, you should be able to go into settings and change it to English?

MIUI is fully customized. And no this isn't the case, its set to English by default and the MIUI ROM is a hybrid of English and Chinese.
The English language pack is now available (~30MB) in the MIUI thread.
Simply, it is an iOSish Android ROM.

Download issue can be solved by switch the download mode to start download under any network.
Open Downloads app -> Press Menu button -> Select the right one to switch to start download under any network
Refer to the MIUI forum, since the new UI is still under development, so the custom lockscreen not integrated yet on the first release

Sounds like it's all gone pear shaped. The main English porting for MIUI is no more, the site is gone.
Some of the details are from the @MiuiDev twitter feed:

MIUI itself is still in development as usual by the original Chinese devs, the English translation has hit a major speedbump (brick wall?) with this however.

I was around the site for a bit. It's known that markhuk is not very stable. He usually just flips out from random thing. He yelled at members so many times for reporting a bug, banned a few country by IPs, threatened to give up the project at least 10 times before.
The dude thinks he owns everything on there and everyone who helps him are nobody. I'm actually quite happy that the majority of the dev splits and form MIUI.us. At least the English version of the Rom is not in Mark's dead grip. Also, less drama from this dude.

Site down or not, as long as we can get translators to translate from Chinese to English and update the roms with the translated text, then the updates can still roll out somewhere somehow. Basically everything having to do with English translations is down.... right?

I like MIUI as well as CM and Sense roms--it is what flashing is all about--each has their own unique look and qualities
So where does one download MiUi English version then? And is it 2.3 based? I tried one last week and it looked quite unstable. Couldn't even find the FM radio. Quickly flashed back to CM7.
What do people recommend?
You need to go to the Forums/Nexus One and dl the latest deodexed chinese rom and English pack
Flash them back to back from sd card like any other rom
You will need to wipe data and caches at least 3X for everything, I do five.
Do a nandroid first and would redo sd card as in reformat outside phone and repartition ext3 1gb. Back it up first
I found this helps if having issues
I, like some, need to dl VM Heap Tool from Market and set to 48
If launcher is still laggy use ADW
You may want to reboot after initial flash to set space and also run a2sd commands

I did. Sure I like the eye candy. But I don't like the fact that there's no app launcher. Everyone has different likings. This isnt one of mine
Use ADW--you don't lose the unique pull down bar or any other MIUI features
I have used it with a solid black wallpaper and lose some of the iphone look
I think there is an icon theme also?
He does sound a bit all-over-the-place.
Paul O'Brien from MoDaCo has gone to the extent of purchasing additional physical hardware in order to supply them with a server which is pretty epic on his part. Looks like it's not going away any time soon.
I like some of the things that MIUI tries to do, but it has issues with a few things that I need it not to have issues with.
Hi all. i had manage to find out that our sgs2 can change the theme of the message looks .just go to hit the menu button and select skin from the show all tread sms view , u will be able to select a few kinds of looks from there. cheers!
Ha, had no idea that was possible. Thanks!

nice tip.
but... i did this on my first SGS2, then i had it returned and got a new one.
now when i click the menu button, the first entry under "settings" is "message font size", and not "message skin" as i believe it was called before.
is it just me, or does this not work with the newest firmware?
Some firmwares have it and some don't. KE7 and KF1 did but KF4 and KF2 don't. But my battery is so much better on KF2 I'm willing to lose the message themes.
ok thanks for the answer. seems like a silly thing to remove, but i'd rather have the battery life.
I'm pretty sure my KF2 had it, but after my update, which as far as I know was supposed to just be for the browser, I lost the ability to skin...
Now usually I wouldn't care, but I hate the iPhone-esque skin that I'm now stuck with... I wish Apple would sue for stuff like this instead...

Dear all,
I know there are already many threads asking about if Atrix 4G is capable of two-way call recording, and in short the answer is no due to some firmware issue.
Well, I just flashed the official firmware by Motorola for Atrix 4G model sold in China into my AT&T model, and two-way call recording turns out to be one of the functions by default.
This is not a cooked rom, though there are some cooked roms based on this official rom that also have the same function.
I just want to let you know that ATRIX 4G can do call recording beautifully, without any compromise, even for my AT&T model.
Please kindly not to start the legal debate (or even worse) again, as I just want to share this piece of information with you, and I fully respect your view on the moral and legal implications of call recording.
I missed Dark Force and CM7, but I just need call recording fuction so badly that I have to use this official, bloated room by Motorola. Hopefully one day we can find call recording function in those wonderful cooked roms.
Interesting. Where did you find this "official" firmware?
Edit: never mind, I found it. Thanks for the info!

But the equivalent instructions and download sites in English is found right here in XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15020775&postcount=2

I'm not a legal expert to make a comment on this, so if any senior member is interested in porting this feature please let me know how can I help.
I registered XDA user account to post this finding because I thought it could be useful to some Atrix users.
I bought my Atrix in the U.S. but I live in Taiwan.
The Atrix sold in Taiwan has no voice recording capability either.
Yet the Samsung Galaxy S2 and many other phones sold here does have such feature by default.
So I assume it is sometimes a decision made by the manufacturer, at least in some countries other than the U.S.
NO in the usa it is totally illegal to record a phone conversatio without the express written concent of all partys involved thus creating a lyability for people who create such software and or implement it
however personally i think it would be usefull evidence against vindictive ex wifes

Thanks for your input, and hopefully it concludes the legal side discussion in this thread.
Once again I'm totally fine with how it is in the U.S., and I assume there are Atrix users like me who live outside the U.S. as well.
There's a few apps that work fine on my SGS and not my Atrix. One of them is ANY program that allows you to listen to music with a single (mono) Bluetooth earpiece. That for instance is not an issue on my regular SGS.
Besides call recording, (and bluetooth music) I often wonder if the phone is purposely locking it out, or just bad programming on the STOCK ROM itself?...

lol since when do you have to actually know the language to tell them apart when they LOOK obviously different?
Pretty much everyone can look at a chinese writing and a korean writing and discern them as different languages even if they know nothing about the language or have never seen them before.
If a chinese person and a korean person were standing next to each other, noway I would be able to tell the difference but the written forms of their language is obviously different.

You wouldn't be able to identify them but you can still tell that they are different because they LOOK different.
Assume you don't know English or Russian, never heard or saw them in your life. If someone showed you a paper written in English and a paper written in Russian, you would still know that they are 2 different languages.
You are assuming that everyone sees them side by side. Obviously if you see the same phrase in both languages you could tell the difference, however, someone who knows nothing about foreign language... Especially symbols, won't be able to tell a difference without a direct comparison.
You need to realize that the average American is culturally retarded (no offense, I'm American) and when looking at other languages, especially symbols, will default to what they consider the most primary Asian race in their mind... Most cases this is China.
I find it funny that you say you can tell the differences in their written languages but not their physical appearance... That seems a bit backwards to me, as we are generally exposed to a diversity of people in our day to day lives but rarely do we see enough of other countries languages to become familiar with them. I for one generally know if someone is Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc... But can barely tell the difference in their written language, the spoken language is different. I can also tell the difference in the spoken language as well... Most times at least.
Anyways, just want to give my thoughts on this very weird and unnecessary tangent.

From wikipedia
For over a millennium, Korean was written with adapted Chinese characters called hanja, complemented by phonetic systems like hyangchal, gugyeol, and idu. In the 15th century, a national writing system called hangul was commissioned by Sejong the Great, but it only came into widespread use in the 20th century, because of the yangban aristocracy's preference for hanja.
