Expecting four million Notes sold in the first quater 2012 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Analysts are expecting four million Galaxy Note sold in the first quarter 2012.
http://www.etnews.com/news/home_mobile/information/2573897_1483.html (in Korean, sorry.)
Last quarter, one million Notes were sold. That makes total 5 million Notes.
What do you think is the best selling point?
For me, it is the 5.3 inch screen and S-Pen.
I tend to forget things, so I need a device that I can jot down quickly before I forget. Note is the perfect device for me for I can carry it anywhere always.

I'm all about the extra real estate. When I look at my old iPhone and think back on how I used to browse on that small screen, I cry a little.

I have at least 2 friends that are waiting for the GSIII launch, in anticipation that the note price might drop a bit. They both use iPhones right now, so maybe 2 more sales for Q2 or Q3.
One other friend is waiting for info on the Journal for Verizon, hopefully she won't be disappointed.

Just to be fair, that screen was big years ago. Haha.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note.

There is a huge galaxy Note billboard ad in bangkok as soon as you leave the airport

Back then (when I wasnt owning a Note), I would look amazed at how big the S2 was... So I bought myself an S2... when the Note was released, My jaws dropped on how big the Note is, side by side with my S2... My S2 look like an ordinary phone compared to the Note.
Now, having a Note already... I laugh at myself seeing others looking at my Note and commenting how big it is... Though now, I find my Note's screen not big anymore...
I guess my eyes have already used to seeing the size of it everyday, that's why I laughed at other people giving a remark on the size of it.

Just bought my Note today. Still have my S & S2, suppose I should sell them but I still love them both. Samsung really have me hooked.

These are likely our Note2 upgrade specs in the fall

This SGIII is likely a mid spring release.
I'll likely be snatching this up anyway....using concurrently til Note2 breaks sigh....cause, well, the Note IS my lifetime thing now!

Only real advantage I see so far is the quad core, anything anyone else able to find any other real advantages?
Damn, I haven't even had the note for a month yet. And I consider myself an early adopter.
If I can wait a couple of months, or until next year, maybe I can buy the note 3.

Samsung has no right to announce Note 2 until I say so. Maybe in 2 years time after my contract ended

That's alright. I'm salty now. But my note will hold me over until the note 5 comes out. Then I'll be bragging about that one like crazy.
The best part about the release of a Note2 is Note Ones will be selling cheap in the Summer before release. Make a great addition/backup to the SGS III.
Once you go 5.3 inches, you can't go back. I would only consider a super speedy mind blowing note 2

+1 ! Even thought I have a skyrocket, I dread switching back from my GNote.
So true. It's amazing how the 'huge' 5.6" Nexus looks undoable to me!
I'm a big camera freak...so the impending resolution increase looks sweet to me. This'll be huge with the SGS2 crew and Samsung'll followup in style with the Note2! You know the stylus and entire handwriting tech will get jacked too.
Sweet stuff to look forward to for Note owners!

I've wondered that too. SGS3 with a stylus... and how about a qwerty keyboard too ;-)
Honestly couldn't careless about sgs 3 . I came from sgs 2 but man, can't go back with anything less than 5.3" now lol, size does matter haha.

Agree completely. Only a note 2 release would get me excited. No way I'm going back to puny penless phones.

after i got my note..a 4.3" phone looks like a nokia 5800 lol afterall size does matter..iam definitely waiting for note 2..no way going back to small screen
Same here, only I came from a 3.5" screen, so it was an even bigger gap.
Still, going back to something smaller than 5.3" would definitely be a no-go.
It's the same with tv's and monitors.. Once you're used to a high resolution, or a larger screen, switching back to something even a bit smaller will irritate you.
I'm not saying I'm defo getting a note 2, I love my note and loved my dell streak before it, I love a big screen. However I'm still under the impression that I could still go bigger the note easily fits in my pocket, another inch maybe even 2 if there was no bezel at all on the front of the phone, ics on screen buttons have got to Be the reason behind this so they can have phones with just screen. Who knows what will happen in a years time!

Note 2 to have unbreakable screen in October!!!

http://news.mk.co.kr/english/newsRead.php?rss=Y&sc=30800011&year=2012&no=360619
The next Note will have an even larger screen with flexible AMOLED, which is unbreakable! Sounds amazing if true! I want one!
I hope this is true but will put me in a dilemma as I was thinking of getting the note 10.1!
I will get Note 10.1! ..if they will ever release it
If it only was true.....
The note 1 is supposed to have gorilla glass, scratch proof etc. etc. How many have already their screen scratched ?? Battery life improvement with a bigger lcd ?? If we don't use our devices they will last at least a week, that's true !!
I never had the expected battery life they anounced using the phone normally, in fact the ics update made things worse... What's the point of anouncing things that aren't (yet) possible ??
After the latest problem with the update (that they already knew from earlier devices, nexus for example) they still insist in errors from tha past that shouldn't even be possible....... Well i really like my note i just don't like samsung. If they don't solve the problems with the first note before launching the second one .......... But it's all to be in the race with apple...
I'm starting to think i should have bought a zte or an lg.......

I bought mine on last sunday, i say i wont replace it for years! It's the best phone i ever had... and dude... i had lots! I was addicted to apple products, then i bought galaxy nexus 2 months ago and now i have the note. Its awesome...
Got my note upon first release in November, I love it dearly, but I want to move on. I think I want something bigger.... I'm waiting to hear about the Nexus Tablet... hopefully that thing is all I expect it be be, and I will use that as my phone

Yep, if it wasn't for insurance...... Can't find a screen protector with the right size for it
What I love is the fact that people equate flexible to unbreakable.
I bet if you sit on a flexible screen the wrong way so as to fold it it would break. Reminds me of all the talk when CD's first came out, they said they were unbreakable, my car and the sun proved them wrong in the first week of owning one.
I will be happy if they have a flexible display as I wont be tempted to upgrade.
But like I posted elsewhere I cannot see it happening. What makes the Note unique (besides its size) is its S-pen, as the s-pen requires sensors behind the screen to detect the button presses I can not see how they would incorporate that is a flexible screen.
But I may be wrong
From how I read it the only reason they are using the flexible screen tech is because its much thinner, this will either allow a thinner device then the current note or keep the dimensions giving room for a larger battery. That mockup prototype has nothing to do with the note 2 and I cant ever see a phone design like that. If you put any decent force on it in that folded position the thing would break unless it was made of rubber.
I dont expect it to actually have a flexible screen unless its some type of flip foldout multiscreen design which I doubt it will have, this would make it a true phone tab hybrid if its in the note form factor but could extend out to a tablet. This will probably be the note 3 that does this I wouod think and not something out in october.
Note 2 will likely have a 5.5-5.7 inch screen hopefuly around 1080p with a 3000mah battery or slightly larger if possible. The physical size wont be much larger then the current note but heavier due to the larger battery as larger capacity equals more weight. Being a note it will have a stylus for sure and the phone going by this release will have the same quad as the gs3 maybe slighlty higher clocked, not the faster arm v15 duel core.

guys i dont want an unbreakable screen and stuff....i just want sammy to not foolishly waste the marvels they create!!example: the note:its by far THE BEST phone ive ever used...screen unbelievable: the day i bought it, another guy was buying the s3 and i didnt even feel bad, my phone was looking way better than his..
but i say waste their marvels coz: that ungodly black crush issue. heck almost every note had it in that store and moreover their dealers denied it, saying it was absent when all you had to do was open the calculator app and see the ugly banding right there..they refused to accept and said it was 'the design'..
and photos taken in the dark have this issue too...
other than this this phone ROCKS!!!!! I mean the size is just coooool..never slows down under any kind of multitasking, never heats up, battery is superb..
just wish for note 2, they COMPLETELY get rid of this issue!!! note rocks!!
my note2 = note - black crush + stable ics !!!! ( dont get better than that!!!)
I will never waste more money on another updated note...its never worth it lol this note is perfeft size. Any bigger would be stupid but tk each their own. I got my note sim free so i paid a gud amount for it. I wont be sucked in with tiny updates and 12 mp camera, just another stunt to make folks spend more money.

I'd love a slightly larger screen. It'll likely be 5'5"...but anything short of 6" would be fine with me.

Irritated

So I ordered my 16gb Note 10.1 last week and went and picked it up yesterday afternoon. I opened the box at the store to check the "body" of the device to make sure it wasn't split along the sides and no odd creaking or anything. Everything looked good.
I get it home and discover that there's no S-Pen. It's not in the box, not in the back of the device, nowhere to be found.
The unit shipped directly from Samsung. I called the store and they said I could return it, and they'd order another one if I wanted or I could have my money back. The other option was that I could call Samsung directly and give them the low down and have them send me another S-Pen.
I chose to call Samsung and they apologized and said they'd send out an S-Pen right away. Sounds good, except that it's going to take 7 - 14 working days to arrive! Really?!?!?!
I specifically bought the Note 10.1 FOR the S-Pen and note taking capabilities. I am involved with multiple activities (my job included) that require me to take notes. This is a significant problem for me.
Yes, I know I can just buy a stylus and wait it out but it irritates me that the unit got shipped without one of the "selling-points" of the product. I understand they can't QA every single unit but come on, a CORE part of the device not being included? Really?!
Okay, I'm done ranting now.
I really like the unit and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, ONCE I get the S-Pen!

So I'm curious. If your job and activities require all this what we're you doing before you got your note? Under performing?
Not saying it's not messed up you didn't get a pen, but if you've been doing your all your job functions and activities for X time before you had a note I'm sure you'll survive another 5-7 days.
I got a note that when I pulled the pen out the little plastic tension piece inside the slot came out and then the pen would fall out if it was in the holder. Shoulda made Samsung ship it overnight.
Well THAT would irritate me too, since it´s not a 299.- $ device.
Even if they sell 20 million devices no single one with faults should pass QC.
I bought 1 SII, two SIII, 1 Note, 2 Note 10.1´s and they came all PERFECT, no broken seals, no creaking, no scratches, mechanically and by the hardware in perfect function and no faults by the software (never ever had one single firmware related crash or update probs out of the box with no single Sammy device)
In mobile electronics a defect rate of 5% or below is considered outstanding performance. The missing S-Pen is bad QC as it obviously shouldn't have shipped without it. But to put it in perspective, Samsung's sold 30MM SGS3's so it would be excellent if no more than 1.5MM had a defect. Someone who got one of the 1.5MM probably would disagree.
Is it a HUGE deal? No. Is it going to prevent me from doing my job? No. I can use pen & paper like I've been doing or I can go buy a 3rd party stylus. It's more of a convenience thing AND the fact that it SHOULD have been packaged with it. By my counting on / planning on / looking forward to being able to use the device, it just made it more of an irritation.
I completely agree that 5% being "jacked up" (hardware, software, defects, missing parts, etc) is acceptable. It would have just been better if someone else experienced the 5%.
As for Samsung products in general, never had an issue with them before. Home theater equipment, cell phones, etc.
Sorry, you're within the 5%.
The opinion that Samsung is solid in all their mobile devices is not correct at all. I also have a Samsung 7 Series slate and this thing came with its screen lifted big time as soon as I took it from the box. Getting it fixed by them was a [email protected], and this was not an isolated case. If you go to TabletPCReview.com, you'll notice that around 35% of all these slates came with the screen defected. I was in that big margin.
Being inside an even smaller margin should feel really crappy...
Now, for a solution, these tablets work with any WACOM pen, so if you have one for any other tablet or convertible then that should work flawlessly. It will no feel as nice as the one that comes with the tablet (as this one has a rubber tip and all others I know come with a hard one) but it should work the same way.

There's another solution. Many Best Buy stores stock the replacment pen. You can buy one there and keep it as a spare or return it when your missing one arrives.

That is incorrect. There may be some Wacom pens which work with the GNote 10.1 but not all. I have an Intuos 3 and the pen for it will not work on my GNote 10.1 it has no effect what so ever. With that said you can use your finger. It is surprising how presice you can be on the GNote 10.1 with your finger.
Yeah, if there was a big hole on the bottom right of my tablet where the s-pen is stored, I'd be annoyed too.
sadly, it's all academic now... my kayscase flip case really doesn't allow me to get to it, muchless see it.

Get a grip. That doesn't exist for any product manufactured anywhere.

What is a "phablet" anymore?

I had three people tell me the Note 3 would be too big. I would hate it. This, of course, was based on their opinion of holding the Note 2 and being put off by the size. I get it, it's not for everyone. It may not even be for me. Two years ago, I know it wasn't. But today, I might be coming around.
A relative of mine had the first Note. At the time I had the Evo 3d. I remember being so put off by that monstrous phone that I thought no way could I deal with something as big. But then I got a Galaxy Nexus. And now I've held the S4. And I see the G2. And I have to wonder, is this really a HUGE phone anymore?
Below on the left are the phones I've owned with the GN being the current. On the far right are the current choices for top in the Android world. Is the Note 3 bigger than average? Yes, but not so much anymore. Now it just seems like it's ahead of the curve.
So is this really a device in a different category due to it's size, or is this just progress?
My original smartphone was the Droid eris. I then moved to the Galaxy Nexus, and at first i thought the screen was pretty big, but I got used to it within a week lol...
fast forward to last week, when my nexus died... I have me beat up old eris and I cannot wait to have a big screen again lol...
yes, the note is big, but that much bigger than current phones, whereas the original note was gigantic compared to the current phones of the day.
I have the Note 1 and think its great, but like you said people go what the hell you need a phone that big. Then I show them how much more I can do because I have a bigger screen and 9 out of 10 people after go, "that not so bad after all". Just need to think beyond only calling and texting
Handling it should be no problem for you seeing that you're used to a gradual increase in size...and if you think note is big see the z ultra in person XD..you won't understand till then
3 years ago I bought s1 and everyone told me that my phone is too big to use comfortly.
Ergonomically, there is a huge difference and more relative to hand size and finger length. The main function for a lot of people is phone and text. Most prefer one hand operation most of the time in that regard. Previous size progression did not breach this function for most people until the phablet, hence the term.
Phablet is a fair and accurate term for most people. Either choice depends on the user and nobody else. If I did not have a tablet, I would get the N3, since more display and IMO, a better all-in-one if no tablet. I though have a Excite 7.7, TF300, Nook HD+ and iPad 4. I will stick with the S4, but would not be surprised if there is a S800 refresh of some form for the S4.
I have the (original) Note, bought it when they first came out, before it was even evident that any of the US carriers would offer it. So I didn't even have a chance to see one in person before I ordered it. I mocked up the phone by gluing two pieces of corrugated cardboard together, cut out to the same size as the Note. It fit in my pocket, and didn't feel awkward holding it to my face, so I ordered it. Once I got the phone, I loved it, and wouldn't go back to something smaller. However, I also don't want anything larger, as I do feel this pushes the limits of what comfortably fits in my pockets in certain clothes or activities. In fact, I wish they would have rounded the ends of the N3 more like the S4 just for that reason. But it really took no time at all for the size to seem normal to me. Of course, I grew up holding the Bell "trimline" phones to my face, so the Note is an amazing shrinking of technology from that perspective. When I first got the Note, I did get occasional "is that a tablet or a phone" questions, but not so much any more.
Size is not a big factor nowdays even more for those who seek the best experience
I am in full agreement with most of you on this matter. Basically my thinking and reasoning is this: I want the best (IMO) smartphone but at a reasonable size, so I want to look at Galaxy S4, LG G2, Sony Z1,Nexus 5 and Note 3. But hey, these mobiles are quite big and in my case in which I have small hands, it is difficult to operate them in one hand. So in essence, all these smartphones are big for me so the size factor is almost eliminated and therefore I am only after the total power, experience and functionality from those smartphones! Therefore I think Note 3 is the winner! Not to mention that Z1 is almost reaching the Note 3 dimensions but having only 5 inch display, so Note 3 at least is exploiting the big screen at an optimum level compared to its size! Now I hope the battery life of this beast will be great and at least to be on Note's 2 range.

This is exactly where I'm at. I just want the best phone. And at the moment, the Note 3 looks like it. It just happens to be a bit bigger than average. But I think much of the stigma of holding the "phablet" to your head is gone with the Note series. I mean, is it maybe a half inch longer and quarter inch wider than the S4? Not so noticeable anymore.

I cut out cardboard last night for the Note 3 size... Glad I'm not the only one who obsesses over things like this.
I think we've become desensitized to devices the size of the Note (all three are similar as is OG Pro). I've been using a N2 for eleven months and it’s become "normal." It's not normal though. One-handed operation was and still is a pain in the a- and I've got fairly large hands. I was recently visiting some friends and family in another state and they all had iPhones (at least a dozen of them) in various shapes and sizes. I felt like Gulliver with my N2.
I would never buy anything larger that the Note to use as my only phone. I have a large tablet so don't need my phone for the majority of my consumption. I'm betting others increasingly have 7-10" tablets too. And at least with a Note you can justify the larger screen as anything smaller would make multitasking and inking impractical. What’s the justification for the XZ Ultra?
So what problem does something like the XZ Ultra or even the One Max really solve? They create a portability problem if they are someone's primary communication device. I guess the problem they solve is not having to buy and/or carry both a phone and a tablet. But a 5.9-6.6" display is still too small for a tablet which is why the 8" form factor is the fastest growing. And God knows 5.9-6.6" is laughable as a communication device.
It kind of reminds of pre-gas crisis times where gargantuan SUVs were the biggest selling segment and people that didn’t need them bought them purely because "bigger was better" and the statement they made - “mine’s bigger than yours.” I think phones larger than the N3 will find their niche but I think once the novelty wears off people that buy them and use them as their primary device will come to their senses.
Other phablets are just "big smartphones." The Note is an honest to goodness productivity machine. There are plenty of options in terms of larger smartphones, but there is only one (well 3 now) Note.

I cut out cardboard last night for the Note 3 size... Glad I'm not the only one who obsesses over things like this.

The phone is just a feature
Bah, I got the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 3G (T-311). Why bother with tablet + phone? Just carry one device. But seriously, it really depends how important the phone function is to you. For those who only take the occasional call, the bigger the screen, the better. The Sony SBH52 handset will take care of the rest.

Talking isn't the limiting factor to me. I don't talk much, I text, email, and browse much more. I could hold an 8" screen up to my face and talk, but it would be an issue fitting that into many of my pockets or keeping on me for certain activities. The Note is about as big as I'd want to go for someone who prefers to just drop it in a pocket & go.

Short answer: Cargo pants/shorts
What I did was get a belt pouch that was designed to carry a small tablet. Easier to take out while sitting down, and no wardrobe malfunctions. 8) It leaves my hands free, which is the important part. But again, it depends on each person's needs. I wanted one device to do everything, including remote desktop.

I suppose if I could or wanted to wear cargo pants to every thing I did, that would be an option. It's rare (read: never) that I'm interested in sporting some kind accessory to carry my phone in. For those who are willing to dress around their phone, then sure, size isn't really an issue. May as well carry a full tablet around. Heck, you can make calls on a laptop if you want.

Yeah, 8-inch tab is about the biggest that can be held in one hand. Even then, it is a bit extreme. It's kinda like heading back to the days of carrying a ghetto blaster. Totally retro, man!

I agree. I've been a Samsung user for years, and I have to say that the gradual changes that they've made with the S series and now the Note series have been nothing but benefits. It's crazy, I didn't even know until recently that Samsung offers phones even larger than the Notes: the Mega has a 5.8 inch screen in diameter, and the second one in that series is at 6.3.

If you don't care about one handed use, and i don't, then the biggest practical phone is the one that still goes where your current phone goes.
I could easily go a bit bigger than the note 3. I know several girls who have the note 2 that carry the phone in their purse and there is no reason they couldn't go bigger as well.

Companies patent things all the time that never see fruition. Obviously, Samsung is thinking about the next generation, like with any product. But I would take most of these patents and renders with a massive grain of salt.
I love it. I don't like that I paid so much for a device and Samsung's treating it like a 2nd class citizen. I guess with it's numbers it'll never get the official support that the S10/Note10 gets, but it still irks me. The S10 just got the DeX support that the Note10 has.. why not the Fold? Saw a story this morning that the Note10 and S10 get wireless Android Auto support.. why not the Fold? That type of thing. But I do love the device, no regrets.
Edit: Your Phone Companion now supports "Phone Screen" on the fold.
18 Days in with mine now, use it as my daily driver, no signs of wear or damage. I do look after it but then I look after all my stuff. Extremely pleased with it!
I'm on my second one now. Got one on contract then sent it back as the guilt of owning one was so bad. Anyway, got over the guilt and got another one on contract. It is such a lovely device, especially when you open it up and you are dazzled by the bright and colourful screen. If there is one thing I don't like it's the weight as it does weight down your pocket!
Love it! 9/10 Have had it since launch day in the U.S. and it is my daily driver. Fantastic piece of hardware. The only things that bother me are the top notch and slow to get updates. Other than that it performs flawlessly, looks great and has had zero problems. Yes it's damn expensive but it is cutting edge and I believe it to be the better design from the other folding phones we are now seeing. It's a keeper!
F*cling love this phone, a phone when I need a phone, a tablet when I need a tablet and DeX is brilliant btw!
A not perfect device but with unique features: no other foldable promised with pride on great shows has in fact still reached this model on the market .. I like innovations and I had already bought the Note Edge in 2014 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix in 2016 among others.., Galaxy Fold makes itself loved because at the same time it is a narrow phone and a tablet, and because it has the specifications of a top of the range
i Very love it
So far love it had it since Tuesday now Saturday I wear baggy Jean's so not a problem of it in pocket
I just bought one after umming and ahhing, I got a pretty good deal on a new one almost $1000 ( New Zealand Dollars) off retail as well as selling my old note 8 with 256GB dual sim.
I must say pictures do not do the device justice, it is simply gorgeous.
I also own a note 10 plus which i intend to keep as an office workhorse whilst the fold will be my " leisure" device.
I can imagine if the fold 2 came with an spen as well as the new flexible glass screen i wouldnt hesitate picking it up.
Overall im very pleased
I expected that Samsung will show the foldable version plus spen...but in unfortunately they didn't
no spen until foldable glass is thick enough to support it.
i really love it to be honest
Love it, have it now for 4 weeks and really really love it.
