Hp mfp? - Windows 8 General

I have a hp officejet 6500 and i am trying to get the scanning to work. Since consumer preview came out the printer worked with the generic driver. Does anyone know how to do this?
Sent from my handheld Linux computer using electromagnetic radiation.

I have a hp multifunction and I couldn't install drivers from cd, finally I try to put compatibility mode with windows 7 in every exe and msi file in the cd (right click, properties, compatibility tab) and run setup.exe and it works, drivers installed. Hope this help you.

You'd have to be a bit more specific. What kind of scanning? Folder scanning using ftp/smb? Scanning to email, etc.

Try doing a forced driver install. Open task manager, open properties of your printer, click driver tab, update drivers, click let me choose, click 'have disc' find the inf file where you have the drivers, select your device from the list, install the driver.

Windows SideShow BT connection problem

Hi all,
Using Windows7 x86 Ultimate and I am trying to connect HD2 (factory ROM) to a PC.
I´ve already solved de missing BT driver (used Microsoft Corporation Mobile Device Driver).
But Windows Sideshow does not connect.
I got Sync and file transfer working. It seems “well paired”
Even previously I had it working with Qtek S200 and Vista.
But now it all sucks big time.
Any clues?
Thanks in advance.
You need to enable SideShow using the local group policy editor, gpedit.msc

Thanks for the tip.
I followed this how-to
1.Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.
2.Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and then select Windows SideShow in the left column of the Group Policy editor.
3.Double-click Turn off Windows SideShow in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.
4.Select Enable and then click OK to save the changes.

But it was already ok
Even, the icon is not present at the control panel of W7. I had to search and then copy a shortcut.
I believe there is something wrong with the drivers used by W7.
Any other clues?
Is it a Windows Sideshow problem?
Did W7 stop supporting Sideshow?

I gather from the developer preview page on the Microsoft site that this will only work on Windows 7 if initially paired with a machine running Windows Vista!
Also, the Sideshow control panel applet is only visible if a sieshow gadget has been installed. However one can open the applet by searching for "Sideshow" in the Help and Supprt, and navigating one of the resulting links.

Nevertheless, pairing 1st with a Vista machine is not an option.
I had found the WSS applet in Windows7, but the problem remains.
Too bad, it was such a great way to control a HTPC with windows7...

[Q] Adding Printer in Windows 8??

Just wondering if anyone else has had issues adding a printer to their computer/tablet running windows 8?
I have the Lenovo S10-3t (touchscreen netbook) and I have not been able to add my network printer.
When adding this is what I do:
Start Menu - Control Panel - Devices - Add a Device... thats where it hangs... the window pops up saying that its searching and it finds other things on my network but no printer... The printer works perfectly fine when running in windows 7.
I've also tried this method:
Start Menu - Control Panel - More Settings (Bringing up the Old Control panel) -Devices and Printers - Add Devices and Printers ... again this is where I get stuck... Brings up the same things on the network but no printer.
My Printer is an HP Photosmart C7250 All in one.
Anyone who's had similar issues please chime in or anyone who was able to add a printer successfully maybe some tips?
Thanks!
Well after months of frustration (although not so frustrated that I wouldn't still use windows 8 as the primary OS on my netbook) I finally got it working. I ended up downloading the windows XP drivers and software for my printer from HP, not windows 7.... they wouldn't install, but windows XP oddly enough. Anyway, installed that and all is working!
I hope this helps anyone who has issues with printer stuff... try the XP drivers

Elan trackpad drivers

Aside from waiting for official drivers, does anybody know a way to turn off "tap-to-click?" I have an Acer Aspire One, and W8 runs great, but tap-to-click is a pain. I have installed official W7 drivers, and everything works great, except when I try to change tap-to-click in the mouse options I get an error.
"Windows Shell Common Dll has stopped working."
Any ideas?
On X-drivers you can find the driver release: elan 10.6.9.9 which is fully compatible. Or first hit in google when querying "elan 10.6.9.9"

Did this work for anyone? I've tried this and still have the same issue as the OP.
Make sure you have the proper driver active in device manager. Manually remove the ps2 embedded driver. It is working on both my laptops and a friends one.

Odd the only driver I have under my Mouse is "ELAN PS/2 Port Input Device", but still when I try and load the settings to enable two finger tap right clicking it get the command shell error - this is legit version of win 8 and the 10.6.9.9
Just checked something. On my aspire one , when I click the taskbar icon it goes directley to the touchpad config and no windows device dialog is opened. I will post some screens of my config later this evening.

I found a working touchpad driver for ElanTech touchpads. Just double click the system tray icon to go into the settings.
Go to the Asus support site and select a recent notebook like the S46CM with Windows 7 x64 (http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=435&m=S46CM&os=&hashedid=vxr7O9ZbnWI09JJm)

Going through the trackpad icon just leads to the main mouse control panel, no matter if I left or right click on it. Tried with the driver you just posted, stock Asus drivers, and stock Samsung ELAN drivers. All do the same thing and crash with the "common dll has stopped working" error.
Anyone know if there are any new drivers that have been released? Since we are nearing the official launch - in just a few days.
( I had given up searching for a fully functional drivers and decided to wait until the actual release )

[Q] Will Windows 7 driver and ccc will work on windows 8?

I am using ati mobility radeon 5650 on a vaio VPCEB46FG and running windows 7 home premium.
When i checked with the Official Windows 8 upgrade tool from microsoft it said that ccc have to be reinstalled, but it showed that device is compatible. The problem is i cannot use the drivers provided by the AMD bcoz of switchable graphics, have to rely on sony for that driver for windows8 compatibility, and they are not releasing the drivers.
So will the drivers for windows 7 and catalyst control center work on windows 8.

I had problems with that on the CP and RP, id might be possible to force the AMD drivers to accept your graphics card as one of their own.
I don't have time just not to go through it all but basically if you look at the amd drivers, you will see an INF file with a list of supported devices and their device IDs, essentially you will replace the device ID of a similar card with your device ID, uninstall the drivers you have, and when you install the AMD ones it should think your device is now supported....
In Theory

ok, we know it is a AMD/ATI chipset, do you know what its based on?
Download the latest AMD drivers for win 8
When you run it, it will copy all the guff it needs to a folder, for example
C:\AMD\AMD_Catalyst_12.9_Beta\Packages\Drivers\Display
you should have two folders
W8_INF
W86A_INF
one is 32bit one is 64bit
lets take the 32bit one, the same applies to 64 anyway
you will see 3 INF files, these are for different versions of windows, id change all three but you should be able to get away with changing
CE146933.INF which is Win 8 version
this file is EPIC in size, the first bit you are looking for looks like this
(This is an example, until I know which card you have I cant be sure which to use)
"%AMD68B8.1%" = ati2mtag_Evergreen, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68B8&SUBSYS_30001002
Note the bold black on the left and the bold red on the right, the red one is a unique ID code for a piece of hardware, the bold black code is a number that is tied to that hardware ID and assigns it a Name, the Green is the important bit and tells it what it install. In short, if that hardware ID was detected it would load the driver settings for the device "AMD68B8.1" using settings ati2mtag_Evergreen
if you look at the very bottom of the INF you can see a list of what those codes mean, in this example it translates to
AMD68B8.1 = "AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series"
What is happening at the moment is that the driver is loading, and not detecting the hardware ID, because its not listed it fails to install
what we want to do is to fool the driver in to thinking that your hardware ID IS in the driver.
in theory its simple, in practice there can be a number of things that stop it working, like getting CCC working may be an issue but there you have it, that's the basics of what you can try, it may not work though so don't hold your breath
I had to jump through a crazy number of hoops to get AMD's drivers working on my notebook's 5650 with switchable graphics - and it's unfortunately all because AMD insist on running pre-installation checks. The drivers work, but they don't let you use them.
It eventually worked when updated my notebook from 7 to the RP, and chose to keep drivers installed during the process. I then reinstalled CCC, as the update wiped it out. My driver version is 8.692.1.0, and is dated 22/01/2010.
Switchable graphics works, but I can't right click on the desktop to open the program. I need to run CCC, and then navigate to switchable graphics.
I highly recommend this approach of using switchable graphics - if it works for you. AMD drivers for this are an unmitigated disaster, and any attempts to get a better situation may leave you worse off. Expect lots and lots of 'Install was successful' messages - even though nothing was actually done at all.
If your Windows 7 GPU drivers are working in Windows 8, you'll see the following in Device Manager:
-When GPU is disabled, "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD" appears in Device Manager.
-When using the GPU, "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650" and the above Intel graphics appear under Device Manager.
Remember that your Intel drivers must be working too - they're part of the switchable graphics. If you see 'engineering sample' or anything next to the driver name, then something is probably wrong.
Anyway, this is just confirming that W7 drivers do work perfectly, if you bypass the OS version check.
If you manage to get W8 drivers to have switchable graphics, that's excellent.
I'll be happily updating my notebook to the full W8 release in about 2 weeks. I am expecting great pain.
The CCC I used was the CCC pro off of their website. I ran all the apps in w7 compatibility mode. Took about 1-2 days. I'm running a never released ati 4600 series so I designed my drivers.... it was very fun

I think your solution will work, bcoz windows is saying that graphics card is compatible with windows 8, but only thing it says is ccc has to be reinstalled..

Does a usb gamepad work in win8 tablet?

I have a Lenovo lynx win 8 tablet. I connect a usb gamepad. I see that it is recognized as usb generic gamepad (although in device manager I don't see a gamepad). The same gamepad work ok in nexus 7 tablet. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong? Perhaps I need some kind of drivers? In control panel I don't see "gamepad" or something like this, as I see in pc. Thanks,
It is this: http://www.e-shop.gr/product?id=PER.701667
Did your gamepad came with a driver CD? The gamepad should work with the tablet...after connecting the gamepad, open device manager & see if it shows any unrecognized devices

It didn't have a driver cd.. I go settings-change pc settings-devices , and when I connect it, it is recognized as" Generic usb joystick " without to have an option to change any settings or something..
If I go to control panel from desktop interface, I don't see any gamepad or joystick icon to click.. Is it the same for every tablet with win8 this or only mine?
Of course they work, your running full windows 8, its no different from your desktop or laptop if you have one. Even RT on the arm tablets has a degree of support for them (mainly the Xbox controller as 3rd party manufacturers aren't allowed to release drivers and windows itself has few drivers)
What make and model is the controller? It is most likely a driver issue or possibly user error (sure its not listed in with mice and keyboards on device manager).

That means it has been recognised then. That should be the only entry.
Otherwise if its still not working in any games then you need to give us the make and model like I already asked. EDIT: Just noticed link in your post, hit google and can't find a single site not in Greek or any reference to that controller actually existing anywhere but Greek shops, certainly no info on drivers etc. If it doesn't work plug and play I think your best off getting a known brand controller (my personal preference is the wired Xbox 360 controller, play and charge kit for wireless controllers doesn't work btw, it has to be the wired one, Logitech also make a few popular models)
It is a cheap Chinese gamepad. It probably sell with different brand in many countries. The funny thing is that it is working perfectly in android without any driver (which I didn't expected, didn't bought for this), and is not working in the win tablet (for which was bought and expected to work)
Android does come with alot more drivers out of the box than windows does surprisingly, but at the same time its much harder install more.
Are you sure the gamepad doesn't work in any games because if its listed in device manager under HID's like it is then it should work. My 360 controller is only listed in HID's and in Xbox accessories (and of course your isn't an Xbox accessory).
Id go into a game and actually see does it recognise it.

You go into control panel>All items (sorry I dont know where it is on the new view, I always use the old style)>Devices And Printers. Should have a gamepad near the top, you right click it and it has "Game controller settings".
Something you can try for drivers is go back to device manager, find the gamepad, right click it and update driver software, see if windows just happens to find one online which matches.

Perhaps I must find something to remap buttons or something to make it work with some emulators and games.. I had something like this in the past.. Now I know that it does work I search more.
