How To: Enable USB Mass Storage on AOSP ICS roms - Galaxy S II General

Hi All,
This is all information from other threads, but I thought i'd share here too as I and an SGS2 user.
Currently, I am running CM9 and now have USB mass storage working fine How?
1. Flash Siyah Kernal for ICS
2. Install this app: USB Mass Storage for ICS
When you open the app, give it root access. Then, you'll have access to USB Mass storage. Thanks to gokhanmoral's awesome kernel & Bexton's awesome app
If it's not working after those two steps, you may be required to also flash THIS init script, made flashable by desean, originally generated by VAXXi
EDIT: New app version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24084600&postcount=113 that enabled USB mass storage on both drives internal and external Updated first link.

Are you on CM9+Siyah b7? If so, did you have to flash the script to get it to work?

Hey - no, didn't need the init script, it just worked on CM9 and Siyah. I've included it as it's also great work and may help others not running CM9 (maybe issues on other AOSP builds?)
But as in OP, it only works currently on internal storage fr me, not external. Trying to find out why now. In meantime, I use Android Commander to transfer to external.

And you're using CM9 0326? That's very strange...Maybe I should reflash everything.
Edit: Hmm...It works now after I installed a different version of this app. Thanks for the help!

Yup, all good now, found then other app version myself here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24084600&postcount=113 updated first post

app worked fine at first but after a reboot it crashed swiftkey x couldn't load language packs...after removing the app and rebooting again swiftkey worked again
any clue what caused that?

[Release] Clockwork Recovery Port. Latest release V4 fixes graphical issues

I take no responsibility for any harm that comes to your phone as a result of applying this mod.
I suggest people start using genokolar's version instead, available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067490
Clockwork Recovery port based on Koush's 3.0.2.8 source.
Available here: http://www.multiupload.com/DQGL84P3A5
Source available on my github: https://github.com/stockwell/u8800-clockwork-recovery-port (bit messy.. will do a cleanup when I have the time)
BIG THANKS TO 357546 for creating the new kernel!!
v4 Notes:
- Now using 357546's kernel with fixed framebuffer driver capable of RGB565!
- Seems to be fully functional aside from rom manager integration
- Some small cleanups in init scripts and sbin
Detailed Installation:
- Ensure that there are no Huawei rom updates on your SD-Card in the dload folder and unplug the phone from your computer
- Boot to bootloader mode by pressing the up and down volume keys and pressing the power button. This will show a plain violet/purple screen.
- Connect the phone to your computer. In windows it will automatically mount one mass storage device which corresponds to the /cust_backup folder on your phone. If your OS supports EXT3 it will mount multiple devices, look for the one with an images directory and this is the device to use.
- In the images directory rename recovery.img to something else (ie. recovery.bak) and then copy the new recovery image in its place.
- Unmount the mass storage device to ensure all cached writes are completed and then disconnect from the computer. Exit bootloader mode by pulling out the battery.
You now have the clockwork recovery installed. Boot to recovery by holding the volume up and power buttons to turn the phone on.
wow!
hope for a perfect recovery!
Any feedback on this?

good news!!!
seems that the32bpp mode is a big problem
hope to see changes!!!
Good stuff man, thanks for the work you're doing.
good job bro
Thanks for the support! I've got an issue though, I've applied the recovery but when I press the vol buttons and power I am taken to the purple screen instead of the green recovery menu. V2 worked fine though......not sure if anyone else is having the same issue?
VolUP+VolDown+Power=Purple screen
VolUp+Power=Recovery screen
Got it, thanks!

Hey, just a question on that topic - I goto 'Backup Current ROM' and it asks me to install clockmod recovery, and asks to verify what model of phone; obviously u8800 isn't an option on the list.
So.... Aroo? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious
actually you don't need to install rom manager
just follow the instructions in this post

Yep, so just skip using the app entirely. Got it

Either way I better get this up on my site to be mirrored

When you are in recovery after the last step which says so, are you just suppose to take the first option "reboot system now"?
Sorry, completely beginner with these kinds of stuff.
Edit: I guess I should choose backup and restore> backup but when i do so it says "Can't mount SD-card"
I have serious problem by finding the bootloader drivers! The driver update is failing all the time? Do some of you have the driver folder you can give me?
THX!

Feel free to just have a poke around and see what it can do. At the moment the only really useful thing is backup and restore.
I'm not sure why it won't mount the sd. I should mention that it does not use the internal 'sd-card' so you'll get that error if you don't have an external sd-card inserted.

I didn't think that drivers were needed, it should just come up with the mass storage device. From what I remember there are two other devices that windows detects but cannot find drivers for, but don't stress about that as it's not needed. Try it again and see how it goes, it may have mounted but you were stressing about the drivers so missed that it was working.

My U8800 appears as a READ-ONLY CD-ROM drive when it's connected through USB. "The USB Storage Is In Use Screen" is on.But i can't write anything my sdcard or internel card.
Under device manager, it shows up as Android Adapter USB Device
I tried : MIUI , Oxygen , CM7 but same reason
And I use CWM 4
What can i do about this ?
If someone tells me how to solve this problem, I will donate him $10

Hi there. This is my first reply to a problem. I think i have it figured out.
Check this:
Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development:
On this screen make sure USB debugging is unchecked.
When you plug the phone into your computer, then a dialog should pop up on your phone asking you to enable USB storage mode. Tap "Turn on USB storage".
It may ask you to confirm. Tap "OK".
Good luck. I hope that helps you.

It's very much difficult than that. Well the only way to restore your usb problem is going back to stock and after that you only can install a 2.2 custom rom, after you switch to 2.3 your problem will appear again! If you go to "device manager" on windows when U use 2.2, U see that the phone is corrected installed, but when u connect with 2.3 rom, the device it's not corrected installed and therefore only mounted as CD-ROM... I know that, 'cause I have the same problem and tried all this options. I installed usb drivers that huaei give us on their site, but the problem persists. I tried with both CWM recoveries and both work good on 2.2, stock or custom, but not on 2.3....
Last but not least, go check your imei on system, almost sure U got a 0 on that too, as me. So this is some problem with 2.3 roms that "f*cked up" our phone. Altough usb problem is reversible when installed stock rom, the problem with the imei persists after a stock rom install...
Hope it help some people somehow!
(sorry for bad bad english)
Try uninstalling device drivers, then reinsert the phone and let it install.
What do you see on the CD rom? The sdcard contents?

Did U check your IMEI? Please confirm that, 'cause If U have IMEI=0 and usb problem as me or other guy I know, maybe the problems are related to each other, and forget easy options, i tried almost everything, almost sure that when install 2.3 roms. it changes some values and the phone goes nuts, 'cause if you use 2.2 it works correctly as a normal usb device!
Snake_boss, same here...
Imei 0

Tested with cm7, oxygen and miui
Everything works perfect with stock rom or Flb (the one I user now)

OTG supported by Defy?

Hello, I saw some videos on Youtube referring to how to make your own OTG usb. Will Defy support it coz I various tasks to do if its possible ;/
S3nt fr0m my D3fy/w1u1 GB st4BL3
The answer is no.
AFAIK for OTG to work, we need some changes in kernel and that is not possible for us.

CM11-20140307, OTG - gives current withount mounting
Hi!
First of all - I would like to thank all you people creating this ROMs, fantastic work!
I encountered a problem that I failed to resolve with my google search skills.
[ I am running cm-11-20140307-NIGHTLY-mb526.zip (2.6.32.9 Kernel), BaNkS's 2-27_GApps_Minimal_4.4.2_signed.zip on Defy MB525 (Bayer module). OTG cable made by Akyga company.]
I can't use OTG service. I see no reaction in Catlog when plugging cable combined with three different card readers (+3 different memory cards). Two of them however light their LEDs up. Third one does not. Huawei E173-U2 modem lights up if it has no SIM in it. Sansa Clip+ player charges as well when plugged to Defy. Externally powered 3,5" HDD is not recognized by Defy as well. All of those devices I tried to connect "live" and with rebooting of the phone. No result.
Is this because all of those devices may be incompatible with MB525? Or maybe there is something I have to do to activate it, beside just plugging in the OTG cable? Going to settings>storage is now pointless as "mount sd card" is inactive (grey).
I am a bit confused, if it even should work on Kernel 2.6.32.9, because in the opening post of Quarx 4.4 topic ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47185185&postcount=1 ) there is OTG mentioned under Kernel 3.0.8, download link leads to catalog with zips with kernel 2.6.32.9 and the "List of known issues" is all about the old Kernel as well. Maybe I am trying to do something impossible without 3.x Kernel?...
And by the way - is there a way to get into the bootloader, like it was before upgrading recovery to suit KitKat? There was an option to overclock CPU, that did not need to use RAM, like SetVsel does.
Thanks for attention!
I think there is a way

Thanks! I will consider procedure from the first link (warning mentioned there made me rethink my needs). The second one is one of the first things I've read before even trying OC. Worth mentioning anyway.
BTW, I still did not succeed with mounting anything via OTG. Tried about dozen mounting helper apps (not much sense, but much more hope). With no result.

[Q]Kitkat and USB mass storage mode

So I used a HTC One X for two years and I used it a lot as a Dropbox synced external USB mass storage device, so am kinda interested in getting my S4 doing the same thing. Pretty much out of the box I left it updating and it's now a shiny S4 running 4.4.2.
Sadly, after the update it seems that it is somewhat crippled.
Apparently, the thing to use is USB mass storage enabler, for which it needs root. So I rooted using Autoroot (and triggered Knox 0x1) and installed Busybox, which is all working well. I also found that apps cant write to the SD Card, so I fixed that too....
However, all the different ways I have tried the USB mass storage app, the best I can get is an empty USB drive.
I've trawled through a series of other threads and blogs, but they all seem to recommend using the same applications and techniques, which seems not to be working for me.
Any other suggestions greatly received.

Thanks to jjdoctor. Works like a charm. I have a Samsung S9505, Kitkat 4.4.2, rooted with Knox 0x1.
I installed SManager from google play.
I downloaded the scripts to /storage/emulated/0/documents/scripts/massstorage
I opened SManager and navigated to the above script directory.
I selected the "Mass Storage" script.
I enabled "su" (green skull and crossbones second from left) and "bg" (looks like an &, second from right)
I selected "run"
Black screen with lines of text (it's a terminal) and it then appeared as a USB Mass Storage device.
Even does not dismount it from Android, which is nice. I hate to think how that's gonna blow up in my face at some indeterminate point in the future. Almost tempted to add some conditions so I can use it as a toggle.... but for now its awesome.

[ROM][Lollipop][Omni 5.1.1] P5wifi (DISCONTINUED)

Hi all, here I wish to continue porting OmniROM from the P4/P4wifi over to our device the P5/P5wifi.
*Please note that this is simply a port of an already built rom. It was not built from source therefore anything that you may find to be broken will more than likely remain broken until it is fixed in the parent ROM.
-Many thanks to the builder of this rom @AAccount. His hard work made this ROM possible. :good:
-Thanks to @jolinnard whose kernel is being used in these ROMs. :good:
*On first boot the keyboard will not be showing. The fix is simple. Go to settings>Language & Input. Tap on Current Keyboard and flip the toggle next to Hardware. The keyboard should now be fine.
Working:
Everything works on the P5 AFAIK
Not working:
SELinux---------Need a recovery that supports it.
To those looking forward to a P5 3G rom then please note that there will not be one any time soon. AAccount has stopped building for the p4 3g so that means we don't have a 3g rom to port anymore. So unless AAccount starts porting for the p4 again there won't be a P5 rom.
Flash Instructions
Wipe data, system, cache, dalvik if coming from another ROM. If ugrading to a newer build then a simple Dalvik and cache wipe will do
Flash the ROM zip
Flash GAPPs (Thanks to @jolinnard)
Flash SuperSU
Reboot and enjoy
Original ROM thread
Credits
@AAccount - for the ROM
@jolinnard - For the kernel
@decatf - for his work on the p4 kernel which is used here that delivers great performance
If you helped out and I missed you in the credits then send me a PM and you will be credited
This port has been discontinued!!

If you want to port or start with omni source? Nice to See your work for our Tab 8.9.

Hey! Maybe some day I will back to Omni. I'm planning to erase my Gtab of Google stuff and enjoy a clean Android experience.

Awesome!! Erased my internal sdcard by accident last week. Luckily I have the same files on my Nexus 9 so I was saved. This port works great for me. Should I even port for the P5? AAccount stopped building for the p4 as of May 23. Reason being that 3G doesn't work but oddly enough it does work on the P5 using our modified KK kernel and your data_on script.

Did you try with advanced wifi configuration? Try not use dhcp to assign wifi. Use a fixed ip. I had the same issue and that was the solution.

I have no such problems. My WiFi connects just fine. Try turning airplane mode on for a moment then turn it back off and try connecting again. Could it be the kernel? I'll p.m you a kernel to try and see if it fixes anything later on. Any logs?
OP has been updated with links to the new build released by AAccount today. According to him there were no major changes, just the usual Omni sync.
thanks for the unexpected gift! unfortunately i have problems with the zip package, it can't be opened/flashed, redownloaded 4-5 times from pc and tablet, same, checked the MD5 and it matches...am i the only one having troubles with it?

Nope same overhere.
Made a backup but transferred it to pc so I've got a problem! TWRP and no flashable zip on the internal sd...
Edit: used the sideload option with ADB and used the omni-5.1.1-20150706-p5wifi-HOMEMADE ROM
Got also problems with the WiFi connection. My network uses 192.168.2.xx range

No you are not the only one. This was reported to me earlier today by another user. I'm in the process of uploading a new zip to androidfilehost and another to mega. They will be up soon.

I'm sorry to hear that. You can use adb to push a zip file to your sdcard for installation.
Use this command
Code:
adb push romname.zip sdcard
Or you could use sideload to install one as well. in twrp go to advanced then select adb sideload and connect your tab to your pc. Open up windows command prompt and type
Code:
adb sideload romname.zip
This should get a rom installed to your tab.
File has been re-uploaded. It opens fine now and should work fine.

tnx for the quick answer. I've been able to sideload your first rom but it has lot of fc when installing or updating the apps from the playstore. Setting cpu to 1.2 had no result.
I will try your new uploaded file tomorrow.

I have absolutely no problems with the ROM. No force closes or anything. Can you try a clean install of the 0716 build and see if it fixes anything?
Just before your re-upload I installed aosp-5.1.1-p5wifi-20150513. (Jollinnard). This ROM runs better than the UltraPlus I had before.
What are the advantages of your ROM over Jollinard's?

There aren't any huge differences but here are a few notable changes
1) Ability to change battery icon
2) Battery color changes based on charge level
3) Pre rooted
4) Performance settings app included
5) Omniswitch recent
And a few others nothing big. IMO I prefer the browser in the omnirom over the aosp browser and the omni keyboard over the Google keyboard in the aosp ROM. But that's personal preference. Try both and pick a side *twix ad*
how i can use this rom for the p5 ?
thanks

Edit the updater script and at the top where you see p5wifi simply delete the "WiFi" part so only p5 remains. Save the file put it back into the ROM zip and flash. Or you could simply flash the p5wifi recovery and you'll no longer have to worry about editing the script.
For future ROMs I think I'll remove the assert lines in the updater script so nobody else will have to worry about them.
