Samsung UK Facebook "Still testing" - Galaxy S II General

Well here is their update via Facebook re ICS
http://www.facebook.com/SamsungUK

They also tweeted-
" Samsung UK is working hard to bring Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) to our Galaxy S II customers. We are unable to confirm exact dates as the software testing and approval process is subject to several variables, but we are working as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience."

Q1 eh?

I'm actually glad it isn't out yet and they are testing rigourously.
The official ICS in other countries are absolutely shocking. Its CRAP. Buggy can't believe they called it official and released it. ICS is simply not ready and if it takes them to actually say screw 4.0.3 and wait for 4.0.4 source then I'm fine waiting. Because ICS options on SGSII isn't anywhere near good enough. Last Gingerbread update blows it out of the water.
I'm happy waiting. Even until Q2. Tbh there isn't that much of an "upgrade" for us. Maybe a few features but can the SGSII get any faster?

I second that...
Had LPQ and LP2 installed for a while and none of them are up to GB 2.3.6 performance's...
We have a saying in Brasil that goes like this: "Hurry and perfection are enemies"

I agree with what your saying but us unbranded uk are still on 2.3.4, would be nice if they gave us 2.3.6 while they are "still testing"

O2 UK ICS has been released. It's LP3

I know this is a modding forum but the information behind a statement isn't called the source code. It's called the source of information
I had a bit of a glitch with my SGS, which was running 2.2.1 official via kies (uk, unbranded release) As i had warranty, i sent it off to be checked, and had been gone for a few weeks now. When 2.3.3 was released and then pulled from kies, i had only just sent my phone away. Just got it back 10 mins ago, and what do you know........i now have 2.3.3.
kinda interesting since samsung pulled it from official sources before warranty even got hold of my phone. So i wonder how they are getting hold of 2.3.3 (unless they paid ol samfirmwares.com a visit) No issues so far though, going great

this is what i thought may have been the case. But if there was a genuine problem with 2.3.3, hence it getting pulled, i wonder why places kept it. In saying that, there are people out there that havent experienced a problem at all running 2.3.3. Just thought id share anyway
So if they pulled it then it could be some time before we see the update on kies.
I wish they would ever get a move on.

Kies will get update after Samsung pass it to the phone providers and they customize as they want .

TW4 would be a valid reason to postpone the update a bit (plus bugfixes from 2.3.3 plus Google Talk voice chat implementation).

Sorry, but why would Samsung include TW4 in SGS when they have just released SGS2?
Anyway, if you want TW4, there are plenty of custom roms that have it.
Because they wont sell more sgs2's then sgs's, thats why..
Well, all should have realized by now that the stated "camera bug" can hardly be the reason that SGS users still have to wait for the update, it's been too long now. They simply realized that there are a lot bigger problems with it and listening to my friends that managed to get the 2.3.3 over KIES there is much room to doubt Samsungs official explanation.
If you're lucky they go for 2.3.4 (which you can only hope for because 2.3.3 has a nasty SSL library regression), but considering they released the S2 this week I don't think they care too much about the S1 for that to happen... only time will tell.

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather interesting -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC< Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable.

18 months is the period in which an android device will get that promised regular update and support. Obviously.
I'll believe it when i see Vibrant GB source on my desktop
Best announcement of the Google I/O would be if they announced that Samsung is pushing GB to all Galaxy S phones.
I want this announcement. D:
Now the question is: Does this announcement apply to phone that are already released and sold. ex. Vibrant.

ICS probably will need specs that are like the SGS2. So don't be surprised if we don't get ICS, but I'll be happy with GB, since Samsung has to update it.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The Nexus S is using the same SoC as the Vibrant and google is going to pass at least one major update to it, Ice Cream Sandwich. Plus our GPU is powerful enough to supply the holographic UI.
Look at the N8 for example. The CPU is weak but the GPU can still nicely support the UI along with no lag.
If Nexus S gets ICS and we don't.
I'm going to Samsung's store and saying HERE i dont want your phone and go back home and pick up some other great phone of that time.
their the same damn phones, both should get the same treatment, no?

It's not too early to say that SE 's poor customer support days are over. They are working on ICS updates to their single core devices already. I am sure we've already been really satisfied with the bundle of updates being rolled up by SE, but this is incredibly good news.

i honestly wasnt expecting ICS for SEX devices
I'm still mad about the face unlock thing. No James Bond retinal scan? Lame.
Good news though. It's about time SE got with it.
Awesome, Really gives me confidence that SE is not that bad after all, Never been a fan of using another ROM, As I love Sony Ericsson's, I will use another ROM once the Xperia Play is no longer updated or supported by SE which I hope never happens while I use an Xperia Play as my primary device.
I always had confidence in SE. <3 this company and their phone. Now, if only we could get it as stock ICS and not with their UXL overlay. Maybe with ICS it'll be much better looking, have to wait and see

Your timing error is what made the article irrelevant though. Your outdated article greatly contradicts the new one that SE made ... making people believe that there is no such ICS update when really SE confirmed the updates after the launch of ICS source codes.
It's like positing an article about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus telling people it's a 8mp camera and not 5mp but using a 2 month old article as reference....

Hope we'll get the ICS Update officially! The phone worth it!
I saw that too, asked Motorola if our Atrix will get ICS for sure, waiting for reply...
I wouldnt hold my breath. I am a member on those forums and have been part of their Soap testing. From what Mark has said, he doesnt believe that the Atrix will get the update anytime soon. They are working backwards from the newer devices first then back to the older ones. Since the Atrix 2 was released sooner than the original I would expect to see that on the list before the Atrix itself.
I doubt it. There's no reason for them to update it They release like 20 phones in a 12 month period. Why waste the time/resources updating a model that is already 1 version older.
CM9 is the only viable answer to the ICS question for the Atrix.
They sent me this same thing, one month ago.

It's an alpha build with no camera support and gapps kinda work.
Guess you have lower expectations from your phone.
This is not knocking the work, but it is far from an "all you need" solution.

It's an alpha.
Even if official ICS comes, it will definitely be after the dev supported ICS roms on XDA hit final release. Mark my words.
i'd be completely shocked if they updated the phone we all paid for less than a year ago. but who knows, if they decide to it'll probably 8 months before they release it.
Don't get too anxious. Remember how long it took for them to roll out updates for Gingerbread. Motorola can do all the work, then get discouraged by the priorities of the carrier.

Look. No CM9 ROM has camera support right now. Btw, I'm running the latest alpha and it is working quite well for an alpha. I just think Atrix owners should start looking to this ROM, rather than waiting for Motorola to push out ICS...of which I doubt they will do anyways.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
All we need is start work on porting Roms/updates from the Atrix 2 to our Atrix's so when they get their 4.0 update we can just port if we don't get one too. And I wouldn't be so skeptical captivate made it to official gingerbread even though infuse which is the closest phone on the network got theirs before with no hope for its predecessor before it. Even if its not official during the past months we've gotten updates off of Moto test servers before they were released.
I think this horse has been beaten enough.... dont you all think so?? We'll get it when/if we get it.... until then, be happy with what ya got available..... OR go buy yourself a device that has ICS available already... or is 100% certain to get the update....

Well. It's not a first time when Samsung promising an update and than delaying it for ages. In my pinion we can expect 4.2.2 to be relised after note 3 arrival. That why I'm a happy user of custom rom. Alliance Rom 3.1 is the best I've tried till now.

Well I'm no more waiting/excited for the update(4.2.2)..just rooted my phone yesterday and I'm enjoying custom roms(thanks to the awesome developers who make those cool custom roms)..samsung you can keep the update till next year even if you decide to release the update after announcing note 4..i wont mind it

Android 4.2 is overrated in my opinion, there's nothing really major. If anything, Android 4.2 is known to be buggy and battery life is worse compared to 4.1 which is very stable. But it's great to be on the latest version of android....
