Hope we'll get the ICS Update officially! The phone worth it!
I saw that too, asked Motorola if our Atrix will get ICS for sure, waiting for reply...
I wouldnt hold my breath. I am a member on those forums and have been part of their Soap testing. From what Mark has said, he doesnt believe that the Atrix will get the update anytime soon. They are working backwards from the newer devices first then back to the older ones. Since the Atrix 2 was released sooner than the original I would expect to see that on the list before the Atrix itself.
I doubt it. There's no reason for them to update it They release like 20 phones in a 12 month period. Why waste the time/resources updating a model that is already 1 version older.
CM9 is the only viable answer to the ICS question for the Atrix.
They sent me this same thing, one month ago.
Its fun to see this hope of yours....

All you need?
It's an alpha build with no camera support and gapps kinda work.
Guess you have lower expectations from your phone.
This is not knocking the work, but it is far from an "all you need" solution.

It's an alpha.
Even if official ICS comes, it will definitely be after the dev supported ICS roms on XDA hit final release. Mark my words.
i'd be completely shocked if they updated the phone we all paid for less than a year ago. but who knows, if they decide to it'll probably 8 months before they release it.
Don't get too anxious. Remember how long it took for them to roll out updates for Gingerbread. Motorola can do all the work, then get discouraged by the priorities of the carrier.

Look. No CM9 ROM has camera support right now. Btw, I'm running the latest alpha and it is working quite well for an alpha. I just think Atrix owners should start looking to this ROM, rather than waiting for Motorola to push out ICS...of which I doubt they will do anyways.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
All we need is start work on porting Roms/updates from the Atrix 2 to our Atrix's so when they get their 4.0 update we can just port if we don't get one too. And I wouldn't be so skeptical captivate made it to official gingerbread even though infuse which is the closest phone on the network got theirs before with no hope for its predecessor before it. Even if its not official during the past months we've gotten updates off of Moto test servers before they were released.
I think this horse has been beaten enough.... dont you all think so?? We'll get it when/if we get it.... until then, be happy with what ya got available..... OR go buy yourself a device that has ICS available already... or is 100% certain to get the update....

We're here live at Google I/O, and the folks from Mountain View have just shared something rather interesting -- a coalition of manufacturers and carriers committed to making sure their Android devices receive the very latest updates. All four major US carriers (and Vodafone) as well as HTC< Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola are on board, and all will guarantee you timely upgrades to the latest version of Android for eighteen months after release, provided the hardware's capable.

18 months is the period in which an android device will get that promised regular update and support. Obviously.
I'll believe it when i see Vibrant GB source on my desktop
Best announcement of the Google I/O would be if they announced that Samsung is pushing GB to all Galaxy S phones.
I want this announcement. D:
Now the question is: Does this announcement apply to phone that are already released and sold. ex. Vibrant.

ICS probably will need specs that are like the SGS2. So don't be surprised if we don't get ICS, but I'll be happy with GB, since Samsung has to update it.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. The Nexus S is using the same SoC as the Vibrant and google is going to pass at least one major update to it, Ice Cream Sandwich. Plus our GPU is powerful enough to supply the holographic UI.
Look at the N8 for example. The CPU is weak but the GPU can still nicely support the UI along with no lag.
If Nexus S gets ICS and we don't.
I'm going to Samsung's store and saying HERE i dont want your phone and go back home and pick up some other great phone of that time.
their the same damn phones, both should get the same treatment, no?
So I bought the Nexus the day it came out to get away from the Epic. My sister and mother though are still using the Epic and I was looking to help them out and load Cyanogen on it since they JUST released 7.1
I can't help but notice that the Epic is the only US SGS phone that isn't supported. The Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate and International SGS all have it. They really got their hopes up too after seeing it on my Nexus.
I'm sorry for you guys, after having the Epic for almost a year I understand how awesome the community was. I ran MIDnight and ACS 2.1 and 2.2 roms for a while and loved them. I'm really sad to see that there isn't a true AOSP rom yet.
I had been away so long though that I'm not sure where the CM7 development left off on the Epic. Any news on what's holding you guys back?

Given that the OP has 375 posts on XDA to your 2, chances are he/she is not a troll (the jury is very much out on you though). Yes, there are many threads as to why there isn't CM7 for our phones, the point still stands that CM7 is stuck in 1st gear (Alpha build) due to the fact that there is no source code released for Epic due to no official GB. The culprits remain the same: Samsung and Sprint. The devs literally had nothing to work with, so the fact that there is even a working Alpha build is nothing short of a miracle.
CM7 is not stuck in alpha in any way. In fact, it's mostly completed. The current release is labelled as an alpha, but it's coming along very well, and is stable.

True, I did not have it right as it is nearly fully functional and not an alpha build that it was months ago.
From CM7 wiki:
"The current buglist:
Overlay for Video Recording
Video playback for certain encoders
Wimax
Other than those (relatively) minor bugs, this rom is nearing a somewhat completion."
Would love to give CM7 a ride, but will wait a bit longer for hopefully a stable GB modem without random reboots and working WiMax (which I still use on occasion).

It's not too early to say that SE 's poor customer support days are over. They are working on ICS updates to their single core devices already. I am sure we've already been really satisfied with the bundle of updates being rolled up by SE, but this is incredibly good news.

I'm still mad about the face unlock thing. No James Bond retinal scan? Lame.
Good news though. It's about time SE got with it.
Awesome, Really gives me confidence that SE is not that bad after all, Never been a fan of using another ROM, As I love Sony Ericsson's, I will use another ROM once the Xperia Play is no longer updated or supported by SE which I hope never happens while I use an Xperia Play as my primary device.
I always had confidence in SE. <3 this company and their phone. Now, if only we could get it as stock ICS and not with their UXL overlay. Maybe with ICS it'll be much better looking, have to wait and see

Your timing error is what made the article irrelevant though. Your outdated article greatly contradicts the new one that SE made ... making people believe that there is no such ICS update when really SE confirmed the updates after the launch of ICS source codes.
It's like positing an article about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus telling people it's a 8mp camera and not 5mp but using a 2 month old article as reference....

Samsung is rethinking the update not T-Mobile...... If we didn't get an official gingerbread update we most likely won't get an ice cream sandwich update. It will most likely only be going to the original galaxy tab and the I9000 if any.

Per this article and other, similar articles, Samsung is reconsidering. Not T-Mobile. The difference is, Samsung may roll out ICS for Galaxy S on other carriers and not T-Mobile, just like GB. Hopefully Samsung will atleast throw us a bone via Kies some day.
Squeek those wheels!
Yes the article sounds good but!, like someone above posted "tmobile [or samsung] hasnt rolled out gingerbread for the vibrant YET" !!
We need to up the pressure on both tmobile and samsung they cant afford to loose "millions of users over a dumb update" !
An thats what they are worried about!
So do what I do to every inane tweet by either tmobile or samsung retweet while working in the words > "...gingerbread for the vibrant..#shameonsamsung #boycottsamsung.."
Can I make a difference alone? no But Millions of us can!
Give them hell!
p.s. This is also the same for the pathetic excuse the cyanogenmod team came out with for them stopping support for the vibrant ie the 911 problem. The 911 problem was that way from day one with cm roms so cut the bs! The truth for the cm rom team is they got pissed off by someone and decided to screw all of us vibrant people over for the crap from one person!
yes different excuses but same results were getting screwed!
I most assuredly support cm rom team and all of the other developers on XDA but what happened to the team spirit? Come on guys post a disclaimer about the 911 and get back on the updates!
PLEASE!
No hope for us vibrant users. They are talking about international galaxy S, and probably US carrier versions that officially got gingerbread.
Ya this won't happen for the vibrant tmo doesn't even carry it anymore, they already have are money we had to ***** to even get froyo that had to be installed via kies mini. If one of the other us variants gets ics that would be are best bet, then again it won't be a easy port it never is.

i'm sure samsung said this just to keep all the outcry to a minimum as possible. delay, delay, delay until the people give up and move on. it only makes sense to release a non carrier aosp version rather than figure out how to shrink touchwiz being that this is mainly targeting the tech savviests out there.

I admit Vibrant will probably never get an official Gingerbread or ICS update. Samsung is certain to skip us if they update international Galaxy S to ICS. That doesn't mean we should throw in the towel. Tweet them, who knows we might end up getting an update to either 2.3 or 4.0.
Make your voice heard.

That doesn't mean we should throw in the towel. Tweet them, who knows we might end up getting an update to either 2.3 or 4.0.fd sdsd sds dsdsd dsdsds

Wooooooooooooooooops.
As I wrote 2 topics earlier on that Atrix may get ICS officially from Moto & Get ICS from Motorola Officially [Raise Your Voice]
There were many people who criticized us those who were hopeful that Motorola will listen to us, Motorola will give ICS support to our beloved Atrix.
Now what! Motorola has said officially that ICS for Atrix will rollout in Q3 2012.
See the Motorola Official Android Update Page!
Thanks all those who tweeted to Motorola. Thanks those who left their comment in official Motorola Atrix forum! Thanks those who posted in the Motorola Facebook page. Thanks those who didn't let Motorola forget our device!
CHeeers!! Guys! Atrix Rocks!
If you work for motorola, I want to hug you!

No I don't work for Motorola. I'm just another Motorola Atrix user who believed in Motorola.
My two cents: it won't roll out until next year. Plus I don't see why people want a skinned version of ICS. CM9 ROMs are coming along smoothly and at a quick pace.
Sent from my Atrix 4G(LOL) on CM9.
See, jokersax and i spoke that it was going to happen, Y U NO believed? LOL
Soak may start in Q2.

It's nice when you can believe in them =D. Although by 3rd quarter, I would prob have a new phone, this news will make me STRONGLY consider another motorola IF they have a quad core. =)
The moto forum is now saying Q3, 2012 for rollout. Surprisngly though, looks like the Canadian Atrix is staying at 2.3, whereas all other countries with the Atrix are getting official ICS.
And why not in 2015? I think by Q3 2012 CM9 for Atrix wiil be stable as a lots of other tegra devices will already get the updates and the kernel sources will be available.
The only hope is that leaks will be available much earlier

Different from blurred GB, which is slower than froyo, ICS may be faster and smoother than CM9, thats the plan at least. And it WILL happen this year.
Im not a moto dev, but ill hug him for all the ones who want to do it! LOL

Lol!
Lol! Seems I posted it 10minutes earlier before the official Motorola has tweeted it to the world

If you google a little, youll find that motorola is going to launch 2 tegra3 phones with 1.5RAM
The plan is to update all the phones with 1GB RAM (or more) to ICS
This may be a problem to the ones who got a Droid3 hoping in get ICS because it runs omap4430.
Still at least for the american atrix, it will come, and if it happens, i know what to do to get it in other countries(officially!). =p

Please tell me that was a typo... Blurred ics smoother than cm9? Again... Please tell me you were high in saying this.

This is great news. Particularly for those of us who are closer to stock because of kernel (disappearing widget) issues and because we want to use the lapdock. I am glad I went ahead and bought (well got for free) my wife an Atrix since her contract was up....this will give the Atrix some additional life...

LOL theres like a month i dont go high. Yep, my MotoFolk said that to me. But no unlockable bootloader, only ICS update.
Still, i think its kinda hard Motoblur being Smoother than CM9. Lets wait and see.

Q3 2012? Rofl... I suppose it's better late than never (and I was giving LG crap about their Q2 dates), but considering the state that Joker's and the others work is on, I will not lose any sleep over this.
I'm sure by then the updated kernel will help provide a better experience for custom ROMs, but I'm very happy with the current state of things. CM9 all the way!

We ALL want official ICS support for the Atrix, because of the required drivers for running ICS smoothly!p

and an updated webtop! =D
Q3.... to little to late... sorry, will be well on my way to a Samsung GS III or GS II Skyrocket HD by then. But I guess for those in other countries where the Atrix is still a fairly new device, this is good news.
