Sign This Groubal ASAP! - Wildfire General

Hi guys! I am not only posting in this forum, I posted the same thing on some other forums too.
THIS MEANS A LOT TO ME AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIKE ICS & MIUIv4!
As long as you have a phone with a ARMV6 CPU, please, have a heart, and sign this Groubal now!
This Groubal focus on requesting Qualcomm to release the Ice Cream Sandwich drivers compiled for ARMv6 phones. If the Groubal is signed by large number of people, a complaint would be brought DIRECTLY to the company of Qualcomm.
If you signed this, you already made a difference in the develper world. Let's show Qualcomm what we want!!
SIGN NOW!!
THANKS A ZILLION!!

Acording to the keywords, you're asking Qualcomm to release drivers for the GPU.
The Wildfire doesn't have a GPU.
Still signed it, because why not

Sorry, wrong section... should be Wildfire S...

Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean support for the HTC Desire Z? Email HTC and Qualcomm!

Hey
If you want Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean support on your HTC Desire Z device, you must email HTC and Qualcomm:
http://www.htc.com/us/about/contact-by-email
http://www.qualcomm.com/connect/contact (more info in the 16-1-2012 Update)
Another intresting link: http://www.qualcomm.com/about/businesses/qct?sid=3076
(Reply to all the emails they send you: If you don't, they will simply discard your query)
The biggest "problem" right now is camera as the framework has changed. The source code for that driver must be given so it can be adapted to work for HTC Desire Z.
Ive communicated with HTC several times on this and they have replied basically that if there is enough demand, they will comply. They do have to communicate with other venders, specifically the one that makes the camera.
Now I want to make something clear:
DO NOT ASK HTC FOR A RELEASE OF ICE CREAM SANDWICH/JELLY BEAN FOR THE DESIRE Z
You must understand that HTC is a company for profit: They release new hardware with new versions of their operating system to gain more money. This is normal and understandable.
If they keep working on old hardware, they lose time for new hardware. Money = time.
We are just asking that they release the source code for the drivers (even "as-is") This way the community can work on it and release updates by its own without having to wait on HTC or Qualcomm.
Another intresting section might be the HTC Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update: The hardware inside the HTC Desire HD is very similar to the one in our HTC Desire Z. You could also ask in your email towards HTC to release the update for the HTC Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update which might also help HTC Desire Z development.
I repeat: EMAIL HTC AND QUALCOMM FOR ICE CREAM SANDWICH/JELLY BEAN SUPPORT: RELEASING THE SOURCE CODE TO DRIVERS Together, we can make it happen and help developers of ROMs
The actual "enemy" may be Qualcomm as I emailed them and have yet to even recieve a "Thank you for contacting us" email.
The chipset used is the Qualcomm MSM7230. From what I gather from this page: http://www.qualcomm.com/connect/contact their email is [email protected]
Try to write them as well. If they see there is demand, they might release the driver as is (it is worth a shot)
They released one (see Update below) so keep those emails hammering their servers
Thanks
Update [2012-16-1]: HTC are kind enough to reply to all our emails but they technically do not create the camera: Thats in the hands of Qualcomm.
Update [2012-18-3]: Qualcomm has released the source to the GPU drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1550442 .
Update [2012-29-6]: Updated the post to also reflect Jelly Bean support.
Update [2012-02-7]: Added also to ask for the HTC Desire HD Ice Cream Sandwich update.
Update [2012-31-7]: We have to help the HTC Desire HD users. They were our only hope. Check this thread out as well : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29591436
If you recieve replies, post them here.
Right now, as most of you know, the only thing NOT working in ICS ROMs (besides small glitches) is the camera.
Email HTC. It will speed up the process and help the devs.
emailed them a quick request but imho even if all desire z/g2 owners will request an ics it wont happen
Dear Customer,
I understand you would like to see drivers released to allow the G2 camera to work with Ice Cream Sandwich. I know how handy it is to customize your device and I will be happy to advise. I wouldn't be able to comment on what could be released to the developer community, however I do appreciate your feedback on the matter. I know some ROM developers are currently working on camera issues, however I am unable to assist with this process as it is outside of our scope of support.
Let me know if I have successfully answered your question, please click here to complete this.
Sincerely,
Douglas
HTC
*This is the reply I got. Although, hopefully if enough people send emails, we'll be able to pressure them into releasing the camera driver. Sending them another reply to their email...
Just wrote a friendly email waiting for a response.
Remember, we are NOT asking HTC to make ICS for our phones.
We are asking for the source code for the drivers. (especially the camera)
I think ICS also does not support Tmo USA wifi calling, but of course that is only important to people using Tmo in the USA!
Here is my message to HTC Hope this helps the cause!
Good day,
I own a HTC Desire Z handset and I must say it's an excellent piece of hardware.
I believe there will not be any further updates made to the Android software on Desire Z (specifically Ice Cream Sandwich), however, many developers over at XDA Developers forum and Cyanogenmod Team are working hard to port Ice Cream Sandwich to your handset and require the source-code for drivers in order to accomplish porting the new software on the Desire Z.
I humbly request as a loyal (and paying) HTC customer to please assist with this matter. I have known HTC as a company that listens to its customers and has previously released Kernel source-code in order to assist open-source developer community.
I know many other Desire Z users have made similar request and I hope that this message helps change HTC's stance towards supporting this device and not consider the request as out-of-scope.
Thank you.

Okay, got another email in response, and they just gave me a link to the HTC Dev form, where you can submit another request asking for them to release source codes for drivers.
I'm submitting another request right now... I'll post again if I receive another response...
Just sent my request to HTC
Ok I did it...,how can we spread this around?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z
Sent a request as well but hopefully the dev community will figure it out before HTC comes around to maybe releasing the drivers.
Someone should probably post a new topic in the DZ/G2 ROM development section. I think a majority of the posters there don't bother reading general...
Maybe make sure with the mod it doesn't get fussy over it. But it's true, general doesn't get a whole lot of attention compared the people that are posting in ICS topics in development everyday.

Its not development. Its asking HTC for source code.
Although it might not seem very different, it is Belongs here
Good job guys. Keep sending and replying. Lets hope HTC give us at least SOMETHING.
Regular users cannot develop things as they dont have (or want) the knowledge. But as regular users you CAN ask HTC to provide source code so the developers can make things easier and faster for you, the regular users.

It wont be releasing source code to driver "as-is" wont be much problem. They just package it in a big .zip file and upload it (no comments or anything)
They send me this:
Dear ....,
We appreciate your interest in HTC devices. This option is not available at this time and is proprietary. We do not have any information at this time about future release of this. Please visit .htcdev.com/contact. to leave comments about this feature.
Feel free to contact us again should you have any further questions. If you feel more comfortable discussing issues by phone, you can contact Technical Support at 1-866-449-8358, 6 am to 1 am EST, 7 days a week.

Just sent the following comment to HTC. Tried to be as nice as possible. Let's see if I get a reply.
Hi team, I've been using the desire Z phone since December 2010 and I absolutely love the hardware. Apart from a little less ram, this Ojo en is great. The developer support for this phone is awesome and the credit goes to you guys. Now I'm aware that asking you to officially released an ICS updates might be too much coz of monetary factors but that's why we have developers support of Android. There are awesome developers over at XDA forum hard at work to port ICS to DZ. All we need from you is the ICD source code and camera drivers for ICS. Please show it to those OEMS how to make business put of open source and be fair too. Waiting patiently for you to release the drivers.

Come on devs please do pm & discuss guys..
I am ready to make a donation between 20-50 usd for an ics for our DS 5!
Great news, hope that Michał Gapiński whats to help us.
Though the DS5 is not my primary device anymore, I still support ICS to DS5 initiative.
Kudos to the devs.
One thing is porting a ROM with all necessary drivers on hand and it's a whole other animal to reverse engineer closed source drivers.
That being said I eagerly anticipate any development

If it is adreno 200 I could use my Sony platform to it, donno what is the cost of the device - if it is big it makes no sense to me now, I am out of cash after going to Warsaw to see euro 2012 match.
The device is cheap costs not more 100 usd second hand

What is the point in this thread? Why slate dev's they do all of this wonderful stuff for free and they have no reason to upload their creations other than because they are awesome people and they share it with us. SO DON'T EVER CALL DEVS LAZY AGAIN!!!
Anyway as far as I know the drivers are not supported by a 2.6 linux kernel. Dev's would have to make an entirely new 3.x kernel to make the drivers work. I'm not a dev but I'm certain it's a massive ball ache to do.

Sign petition for Exynos 4 Sources

Someone asked for a petition for the release of the Exynos 4 sources so I created one for you to sign.
And so you don't have to say it, the petition is useless sense Samsung won't release a thing exept GB leftovers.
Now sign and hold your breath!
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/release-of-the-exynos-4-sources/
Seriously? Not Gonna happen!!
Oh we tried that already. Even the media ****storm that the SIII Petition Thread and the SII Thread (and others) created wouldn`t help. They did release useless junk and a new petition won`t help in my opinion. Check out this thread for more details on how Samsung screwed us yet again:

Yes, **** Samsung and its ignorance of scene wants and wishes. How dare they not release source code for proprietary hardware.

It won't gonna change. We are only a small percentage of their customers so it won't matter
So the only to do I to do not buy a Sammy phone ever again if you feel you've been screwed up. I'm feeling this way. Sammy won't see my money ever again. And the money of the people asking me for tech guidance.
