And no this is not a Kies update post but I expect it will get deleted or moved wihin minutes as usual.
For those of you running Windows 7 there is an "optional update" for new Samsung drivers. These are: Mobile USB modem, Moile MTP device and Mobile USB composite device. I found them through Windows update and as they are optional I was not notified of them. You have to plug your SGS2 in to the USB and start Kies to install them and it will require a reboot so save any data first. Hope it is of use.
doesn't work for me.....when i plug my s2 in, occasionally the MTP drivers install and then it says restart computer after installation. but after restarting the mtp drivers start installing again and then it says cannot be installed
My mtp drivers never install either.. Everything else does except that

I cannot connect to Kies or root, it just hangs on the "daemon started successfully" step. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple times. Any ideas?
Did you go to the "about" in the setting and tap build number over and over to unlock developer's options and than turn on usb debug?

Same thing happened to me. Here's how I fixed it. I uninstalled the drivers from my computer, rebooted, did a factory reset on my S4, installed S4 drivers on PC, and plugged in my S4.
I have the same problem. Only, mine used to work fine until I rooted. Ever since root, I get the "Hardware ID missing" error when I connect to my computer.
Details:
I have AT&T S4.
OTA Update applied before root.
Rooted and Custom Icon removed according to steps 1 and 2 HERE
I've tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers
With USB Debugging Checked and UnChecked
I have not tried the factory reset because I really loath setting my phone back up again.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the motochopper instructions saying to perform the root before ever connecting to your computer.... unfortunately, I had already connected to my computer before reading the instructions.
Any suggestions to get a USB Mass storage or USB as Camera connection back would be greatly appreciated.
Grab the app USBdeview and delete any previous drivers that are still associated with your phone. That should work if the problem is on the pc side.

I registered onto this forum just to say this WWOOOOORRKS!! I got this problem from a failed root. It kept saying "Hardware ID missing" and wouldn't allow me to access the SD Card anymore.
What I did specifically:
1) Download and start USBdeview. (unable to post links since I'm a new user)
2) Plugged in my Samsung Galaxy S4.
3) USBdview will highlight all S4-related drivers with the color green. Please right-click "Uninstall Selected Devices". (if you have a USB mouse connected, obviously don't delete that, but EVEN if you do, just unplug and replug to reinstall)
4) Unplug Samsung Galaxy S4.
5) Install Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones. (unable to post links since I'm a new user)
6) Plug in Samsung Galaxy S4 and wait for new drivers to install.
And after that, it worked for me. Hopefully you have the same luck.
Hi
Whenever i connect my phone to my pc it starts to charge but i'm not able to browse the phone in explorer (it shows nothing).
In device manager i see the samsung driver with a yellow triangle
I tried a lot already:
-auto update
-manual update
-uninstall and search for new hardware
I also tried it with kies, same thing it doesnt find the phone.
I tried uninstalling everything from samsung and whatever i could find.
Still the same problem i tried kies drivers i tried more specific drivers all failed.
On my windows 8 boot it does work (another drive so they shouldnt cause trouble to each other at least i think)
and at my work on windows xp it also works without any problems
What do you think it might be?
Try installing the latest Java s/w. Also for drivers go to samsung's official website and manually install drivers.
It would work if instructions are followed properly.
Since your phone is recognized by Windows 8, your phone is alright the problem is with the OS.

Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable... Now go into your device Manager. ..
Uninstall all the usb drivers and reboot your pc... Once it reboots it will automatically start installing all the required USB drivers again...
Now see if your phone is detected in your My Computer...

So I got another Nexus 4 for my sister. My computer didn't have a Nexus 4 toolkit, so I thought I didn't install any drivers on my comp, so I downloaded Nexus 4 Toolkit and installed the drivers. I connect her phone to my comp. It installs the adb driver and says device is ready. I go to My Computers and I don't see it there. I uncheck MTP. Computer proceeds to try and install and random driver and said it failed. I check PTP. Computer successfully installed driver and ADB works. ADB doesn't work for MTP.
So I uninstalled all the drivers thru device manager and through Wug's toolkit. I rebooted my computer. I reinstalled all the drivers. I connect my sister's phone. Same issue. I connect my phone. Same issue.
I go install the drivers again on another computer in my house that guarantee has no drivers before. Same problem arises. I tried my phone too, and it doesn't work. I am not running stock. I am running SpeedX ROM.
Help please?
[THE FIX]
1. Download Wug's toolkit
2. Use his Full Driver Installation guide to uninstall all drivers.
3. Install PdaNet Drivers, following the instructions given (Pick LG instead of "others")
4. After installation, turn off usb debugging, and open device managers.
5. Connect phone, making sure it's in MTP mode.
6. Observe in device managers that something popped up (Should be something something subbranch Nexus 4 with a yellow triangle)
7. Right click> Update driver
8. Browse my computer for driver software
9. Let me pick from device on computer
10. Pick the MTP USB Device
11. Let it install.
12 Done!
on my nexus 4 dont work any usb connect not for MTP Data transfer or ADB
When i wanna install mtp device with google driver it says device cant be started
when i wanna install it per device manager with usb_driver.rar files it say driver cant be installed
i tried google drivers and clockwork driver package and the rar file.
I am assuming that you are on Windows.
1. Go to device manager with your device plugged in.
2. See whether it is showing anything Nexus related or something like Generic Android device
3. If there is, right click and Uninstall the driver completely
4. Unplug the device and restart your laptop/PC
5. Plug in the device again and see whether drivers ate installing.
If it is still not installing, you could try with going to fast boot mode. For this:
Unplug the device from laptop
Turn off the Nexus 4
Restart in fastboot mode - hold down Vol down and Power simultaneously.
Once it boots to fast boot, plug into laptop.
The fastboot method might get the drivers installed, but I've seen that it is PTP and not MTP.
Try and see it works!

i already said, that it tells me driver cant be installed error
Bought new N6p 64gb
Updated it to latest version by OTA.
Now, i'm trying to connect it to PC (win7 ultimate) and it's not recognized.
Have also Nexus 5 that working great with MTP but the Nexus 6p won't no matter what I tried.
Enabled debugging, tried to install latest Google drivers... Everything.
Still, can't see it in Windows to unlock and root.
Spend two hours to figure out what is wrong. Windows says the mtp is installing but after few seconds gives me an error that it didn't install.
Help me please.

Did you select usb for mtp from the notification?
It's Android's issue!
Enable Developer Options!
& when plug OTG to phone, go to menu "Select USB Configuration" & 1st select Charging & Again select MTP mode!
You really won't believe it. After being frustrated with the N6p and opening this thread, I plugged the phone to pc with usb cable, shut it down and then booted into bootloader. PC recognized the phone as adb. After that I just powered on the phone normally (into the Android os) and waolla, PC recognized it right. Checked twice and both (N5 and N6p) working as supposed to be.
