Hi
My imagio Start and back keys are stuck!!!
anyone else with the same problem!!!
Stuck Buttons
This is an issue with the Imagio. The only real fix is to have VZ send a replacement.
There has been a discusion on it here at PPC
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=99190
And, if you look on the VZ forums there are more people talking about this.

yeah- like the guy said- a whole thread dedicated to the subject. and then you find out that even though you pay for insurance instead of getting a new phone they send you someone else's old phone that was broke and they fixed for you. nice. when my end button got stuck down i ended up ripping it off and fooling with it until it unstuck. had to use a little adhesive (totally lame) to make the cover stay on the actual button. definitely does not work as good. after that i started looking into all the ways i could to avoid using those buttons.
xda shutdown.
volume app's.
etc.
Mine stuck within the first 30 days so I made them give me another brand new one. They tried the certified like new thing with me but I wouldn't accept that. It did take a fair amount of *****ing on my part before they gave in.
Why would I pay for something new that doesn't last a month and accept a refurb?
So my point is, if your phone breaks soon after you bought it, don't accept anything less.
Also, I'm on my 3rd one. Verizon's policy after the 3rd one within a year is to get you into something different that's new and of "equal value" if you want. However, they will not openly tell you that unless you insist on it.
I'm on #2 and I am tossed between using the buttons as little as possible or as much as possible.
Added to Wiki
Hi guys, have just referenced this issue and thread in the Wiki. Hopefully some more travellers will find the info and offer some assistance.
freakin buttons
My wife and I both have Imagios. I have had mine replaced once already the buttons on the replacemnet are stuck and a new one is on the way. The buttons on my wife's are now stuck and she has a replacement on the way.
Verizon is telling me that they no longer let you get a different phone after 3 replacements. I would yell and complain, but what phone do they have thats better?
Add me to the list. Windows button decided to get stuck last night. I will say that it was particularly cold (36F) and I had been outside for some time, thus making the device fairly cold. When I depressed the button, I noticed that it was hesitant to move, then made an quiet yet audible *click* and that was that. I have a feeling that the defect lies in the membrane beneath the button and when exposed to cold, it becomes inflexible and cracks. I'm debating whether to actually go to the VZW store or call the customer service. If I actually go to the store, will they likely give me a new device (if stocked) or do they have refurbs in the store? So long as the refurb is in brand-new condition, it doesn't matter to me as I have a feeling this will just happen again. While I love this phone, I'm hoping warmer days will make this a non-issue. In any case, it's a bit of a bummer when virtually every day I have impromptu debates with a droid owner about who's phone is better. Last night, I lost.

I am with you on the debate. I want to yell at Verizon to make them let me get out of this phone, but I wouldn't know what to get. I actually like this phone a lot. I like that I can goof around with it and possibly get android on it in the future.

If you have proof of purchase (IE original packaging, maybe a receipt), it may be worthwhile to contact HTC directly. I would assume that the phone was purchased w/o a plan and/or you're not a current VZW customer anyway. I would assume then that any defect/warranty issues would default to the manufacturer. I believe HTC has a 90-day warranty.
Hi
i tried conatcting local HTC india ,.,.,. they cant help.... can i get replacement on ebay or anywhere ... plssss its urgent
stuck buttons avoidance
I have a solution that seems to have ensured I don't have this problem. I placed a screen protector from my mp3 player across the buttons (since most screen protectors for the imagio only cover just the screen itself), and then using an xacto knife i carefully cut the excess mp3-screen protector around the outside edge of the send and end button and along the bottom of all the buttons such that the remaining film secures all the buttons together.
This seems to have some effect in stabilizing the buttons and making sure nothing snags on them or prys on them and it seems to keep my phone from having the problem reported here. I've had mine on for at least 3 months and not a single button problem.

What exactly did HTC say?...They warranty these phones for one year, and they were released in october, so its not out of their hardware warranty period.
Is the ESN on this phone valid? Something isn't adding up here.

Hi
The problem is i got the phone from my sister who lives in US.... i live in INDIA!!! bangalore to be precise!!! So HTC say they wont help.... my sis will be back after 6 months... LOL
Ps whats ESN... is tht the IMEI!!!! well its GSM unlocked thats as far as i know
Here's an idea: Call HTC USA and pretend you're wherever your sister lives in the US. Explain the issue (leaving out the bought as gift, sent to india part) and then when they say they'll fix it (which, if the phone isn't stolen or otherwise they will) send it to your sis in the US and have her send it to HTC from a US address. I'm sure with the large number of questionable phones floating around india/asia they're hesitant to replace it. When in doubt, lie. You purchased a product and you deserve coverage. Don't let their resistance stop you; you're certainly not doing anything illegal, simply circumventing their "security" measures.
Spam taken care of, not linking to topic to help him spread his 'cause'.
This may have been discussed before but I just wanted to inform you guys on my experience.
So I purchased my EVO 6/16 and I absolutely loved it!! At first glance it was everything I expected an more. I looked a little closer at the device and I noticed quite a bit of things
1) Screen was not properly seated
2) Battery life was somewhat suspect (even with NO task manager and NO syncing)
3) a bit jittery when swiping from one screen to another (compared to that of replacement and my Nexus One)
4) Random buttons seemed to have been activated when pressing the power button (mostly the camera button)
5) Screen responsiveness was a bit off
So the above issues were just a few I noticed from my OLD EVO. Now this may be somewhat of an "Placebo Effect" of getting a new Evo. The phone they gave me today feels a bit different. Both phones has the Build (003) I jotted down all of the numbers I could and nothing seems different as far as build is concerned, however we all know quality control in different batches can vary from time to time but not by much (or at least shouldn't)
REVIEW OF EVO I RECEIVED 6/22 FROM SPRINT:
I went to the Sprint store on Monday 6/21, to exchange my OLD Evo because I was a lil disappointed with the above issues they inspected the device and said you are right the screen is not seated correctly. Of course the screen responsiveness worked perfectly for the rep lol. The manager came out and said he'd put me on the waiting list and I'd receive a new one as soon as they came in. I got a call less then 24-hrs later stating they had some in. So of course I jumped for joy dropped my son off at daycare and went to the sprint store to grab another Evo. It took about an hr because of the amount of people up there. I handed over my old Evo and got a new Evo. I asked to hold both in my hand because I read somewhere were a sprint rep tried to act like he exchanged a phone and changed all the stickers inside to make it seem like it was a new phone. So after I looked carefully at the numbers I had written down I held both in my hand and compared the screens. Rubbing my fingers on both screens on the left hand corner and side. As to no ones surprise what do you think happened!! DUH, the damn screen was coming up and the manager says, "WHAT THE HELL". So of course I get the new Evo and I get a brand new charger and kept my old one for my troubles per Manager.
So while keeping the above issues in mind, the new devices is showing absolutely NO light leakage and when I say NONE I mean NONE! No left corner. NO leakage above the 4 soft buttons, no nothing! Phone seems very responsive to every touch where you barely have to tap the button and it'll activate. This may be caused by the screen being properly seated unlike the previous one I had. Battery is still suspect however that is something I am willing to live with because I know what the phone can do and what it takes to perform those task. If anyone has any additional questions please PM me or ask here.
I know this is pretty lengthy but I really need to start giving back to XDA because, indirectly, you guys have done so much for me.
There all different
I called the Sprint store where I bought my phone, just a moment ago, and told them about how my screen is also starting to come up, you can see light around the edges of the phone, as if the screen is comming up and letting light out. not only that but even when I turn the phone off, and its real dark, I can see light underneath the soft keys, NOTHING IS TURNED ON THERE SHOULD BE NO LIGHT ON WHEN THE PHONE IS OFF!!! ya, kinda had to get that through to someone. anyway he told me to call a "repair" center, (which hes an idiot for telling me this) and that theyd have to "Diagnose it" - Or, "Look at it all bug eyed and say, HMMM.. a couple times, or Yup..." and tell me I need to replace it. Or what also might suck, is I dropped it a few days ago, from like 2 feet, didn't throw it, slam it, it was just a light drop. So there are a few chips around the edges of the phone, wounder if theyll try to tell me thats why its happening, even though it was doing this 3 days after I bought it. June 5th, so anyways I ended up calling the repair store before truckin over there, and they told me "No, you take it back to where you bought it, You dont want it repaired you want it Exchanged!
Hmmm.... Interesting, I could have sworn I told the other dude that! I know nothing Great Sprint Masta! So anyway they told me theyd have a shipment in tomorrow, and that No, I cannot get on a list nor could they "order" me one. Wounder if theyll be there tomorrow.

Complete BS. I can tell you from experience that the Sprint employees at the stores know pretty much nothing about anything.
Call Sprint's hotline directly and explain your situation. They should be able to order one for you and have it shipped directly to your address. That's how I got my EVO in the first place. When every store was sold out and it was no longer available online, all I had to do was call in and they ordered it and sent it out next day.

Yeah that is certainly a step you can take. If the store is unable to assist thats just more fuel to take with you when you call Sprint and let them know how you were treated in the store. Bet you'll have a new Evo by Friday lol.

I did call the hotline, I dialed *2 and talked to a fella and he told me the same, just take it up to the one that I bought it at and have them exchange it. I guess they play favorites.
Ya, I called em again, they told me all I can do is have them hold one, IF they have any, I think I'm just talkin to the wrong people about this. thanks for the input.
I bought mine from Radio Shack.
Do I need to deal with them to try to exchange mine, or can/should I just take it to a Sprint store directly and see if they will exchange it there?
Also, I've heard/read that HTC has pulled all the EVO's and is "fixing" the assembly line and expects to have "fixed" units available soon.
Assuming this is true (yes, I know), do you think they will replace the "defective" units after the 30 days, based on the 1 yr mfr warranty?
Or do I need to push for a replacement before July 3?
?????
okay heres what im understanding so far, sprint will replace/exchange my evo if it has light leakage or/and glass separation? please correct me if im wrong, so when i go to my local sprint store i wont look like a fool

+1... Im in the same boat.
Sprint online order center told me that for the glass separation n light leaking I should get a replacement from sprint dot com (being the place I got my phone from) n that going to a local repair store would only mean I get a refurbished evo the rep said "if you paid for anew device n its defective you should naturally want a new replacement not a refurbished unit" so I agreed the phone is still out of stock at sprint dot com n as soon as it goes in stock I was told to call them n demand my new replacement. Further more the rep said even if I go past my 30 day limit n the device is still not in stock that I will not pl pay for anything because it was defective to begin with.
I went to a sprint repair center and the guy told me it is a normal thing for the phone to have a light leak and that the glass was normal. He said he has a Evo too and his is doing the same thing. I showed him how my glass is up and does not have an edge like the other side of the phone and he said that the phone is fine... WHAT THE HECK... no it isn't! It has lifted some since I bought it.
All 3 of ours are having the glass problem and mine has a half blown speaker. Sprint said to take it into a corp store so they could put a note on the account, so I did, but sprint.com is still out so I can't replace them.
Another week and a half and I'll be getting close to the 30 day mark. I hope I get some working ones by then!
I know it is not normal for the phone to be glowing in the dark...

Coming from having 2 faulty Heros and having to deal with CS, your best bet is to use *2. Lately Sprint's CS has been amazing after horrible reviews. Let them know your problem and they will take care of it. I have had 2 different options. Either have Sprint overnight me a replacement phone. Or have them note my account and I go to the local Sprint store to have it replaced. Both have worked flawlessly.

Once you go into the store and speak with a manager politely ask him when your 30 day satisfaction guarentee started. Its unfortunate that you have to mention it but I am sure once he see that you are still within your trial that will light some fire under his a$$. Not only will he think he'll lose a new client but a new client that bought an EVO. Should work...
i'm not sure if i want to wait for the software patch for the screen since some people aren't having the issue. It won't fix the screen lifting issue anyway. Mine is very slightly raised at the bottom barely noticable but i'm woried that it will get worse over time.
I also purchased mine at Radio Shack and am wondering if I need to exchange it there or go to a sprint store.

How long have you used the phone? I'm afraid the hinge may become loose with time.
Arcadia310, when did you receive your phone?
Thank you. I posted a reply. But yeah, his is rock solid unlike mine. If I turn mine upside down or at a slightly inclined angle it just flops open.
I don't know about you guys but I think the phones are supposed to be loose. You you guys see how hard it is to hold the phone only on the top portion? Do you really hold it that way naturally? And about the people texting while laying down, your index finger don't naurally hold the top portion of the phone?
My hinges are loose, but that's only if I really try hard to prove it. But if I hold it naturally, I have no problems.

I'm sorry but holding my phone upside down for half a second or having it like this "/" while im in bed typing/reading what have you it should NOT fall open I don't care how much you try to tell me it should. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NScoVqYjMgE
I wish mine was like that .... this has been a bad experience for me.
Mine is definitely defective... radio shack had a dummy unit.. I picked it up, flipped the keyboard out... turned it upside down and held it by the keyboard, and it didn't even budge until I shook it. I'm about to call T-Mobile for an exchange.
If your hinge is very loose I highly recommend exchanging it for a stronger one.
Hopefully T-Mobile doesn't give me any crap.
now I get to wait with a ****ty loaner flip phone while the g2 I bought via t-mobile phone support is shipped back to t-mobile and another g2 is shipped to me.... awesome!
I was more than psyched for this phone and this has really put a damper on things.
Edit: By the way Blackprince..., maybe you'd be singing a different tune if you're brand new phone couldn't even hold itself open. The loose hinge video may appear exaggerated, but thats exactly how mine behaves.
Mine is loose but it doesn't affect me much, just like arcadia said my index fingers holds the screen up but It does tire my fingers. I bought it on sunday at radioshack and at first the screen wasnt as loose as it is now.
I'm on the phone now with tmo adding insurance on my phone then getting a replacement soon.

I was able to get customer service to send me back a new phone to my other line which was the one I wanted initially anyways, but the first rep I spoke to had told me that I couldn't get it without paying the off contract price.
Not only that, but he gave me the $252 price for the phone instead of the 300 something I was going to have to pay for it prior and switched my data plan to the 19.99 one, waived the $18 upgrade fee ONTOP OF shipping me out my new phone express shipping, too. I totally spoke with his supervisor and said he was awesome. I don't even have to ship this new one off until I get the new one in.
So my experience has actually been pretty good all around save for a defective unit. I'd keep *****ing till you get someone who doesn't suck...
Thank you, this is good to know. The lady I spoke with "Sure" there was no other way. If I can get something like this worked out to replace the one I've got, i'll be a lot happier.
I did the same tests as you and if i hold the phone upside down it opens and swings but you know what? Why the hell would i hold the phone like that in a day to day use I have no problem with the screen at all because when you hold the phone normal it works like ti should and your right people need to grow up and stop crying over something that works.
My phone has never open or closed on its own and i had the phone since 9/30

These type of comments arent needed. Not all of us use our device the same way. Although I do have the hinge problem I'm not crying about it. Sure the phone works GREAT. ITs an awesome device but people payed for it and if they aren't satisfied then it is for a reason.
Nobody here is crying just stating their experience, kid.

I think it should be very clear by this point that all hinges are not created equal.... I.E. some people's hinges are far looser than others
With that said, you should quit telling people to "grow up" because it works when you use it right...
Frankly, who is to say what using the phone "Right" is? You telling people that their grief is nonsense because YOUR phone works the way YOU use it is bull****.
Soooo.....Its a rainy day in good ol' Orlando, FL and as me being the genius that I am, start to get out of my car, I forget my phone is on my lap. So I grab my laptop bag, and start to exit my car and I watch in slow motion as my beloved MT4G slowly fall torwards the ground. I don't know if the gods interviened but it fell at such an angle that it hit the ground screen first completly flat. So to my delight I pick my phone up and see 1.) its cracked to smithereens and 2.) I can't even see picture on it. So now im stuck with a phone that keeps going off notifying me of things I cant check.
So after that whole pointless story my question to you all, Is there away to get away with this with a warranty exchange? If so is there anyone thats actually gotten away with it? Also if I call T-Mobile tommorrow if theres no shure fire way to get away with it, would they make me send this one back if I pay the deductible? (Premium Handset Insurance FTW) Thanks in advanced everyone.

Doubt it. I got to do warranty exchange with mine even tho I had a nick on it because the phone had some faults that I told them were a problem for me. So they can only do warranty exchange if the phone had a fault of some sort, usually. And yes they probably would. You would have to file a claim with asurion. The deductible is 130, but when you file a claim, if its approved you have to shell out another 50. Im pretty sure thatz how it iz. I read that on their policy section

My evo had a problem with the power button, when pressed instead of clicking, it got kinda stuck and mushy and I needed force for it to power the phone.
also the micro usb would stop charging if the cable was moved sometimes.
I took it to the sprint store all rooted thinking the button could be replaced easily but the guy said it couldn't be done.
so he gave me a brand new sealed evo with 2.3 (for free) and now I'm waiting patiently for root access again
did some research online and found alot of people complaining about bad usb ports, has anyone here had any problems with it?
Yeah.....Tons! But like others, we choose not to take in our babies as it'll be castrated with 2.3. Even though my usb also has issues it doesn't justify $100 or stock giggitybread. Plus my launch day Evo is still goin strong

Yeah when the rep told me, give me a minute to activate your new phone I was petrified.
But my brother paid $180 for it in the local classifieds with the hdmi cable and two batteries along with a separate charger.
At least I got some peace of mind knowing I have a new phone that won't breakdown in the near future... I believe that the evo devs will find root soon, if they don't? Life goes on
Really tired of people crying about root as if the devs were at their service.
Patience is a virtue
Edit: I didnt pay the $100, the sprint store that I go to is the best in the island and its worth the 45min drive having one 5 mins from home.
Every phone I've had with insurance has been replaced when faulty (No user/water damage), they usually tell you to come back in 3 days while the phone is shipped to the store(refurb).
this time they pulled out a brand new evo on the spot and gave it to me.
the store next to home always blames the user, having bad power settings, Its always a network issue while the other phones in my home work, etc.
The last time I got into an argument with a rep infront of 15 + people, it was a clean argument about the problem, no cursing or anything. Then this other smartass rep walks towards us and tells me, please quiet down we have customers that demand respect.(in a serious *****y tone)
I told him I demand service rather than excuses
And to begin with I wasn't talking with you.
He got pissed and went into the back room after all the customers stared at him for what he said.
Got my phone fixed that day and they asked me for a 5 star review if I received a quality call. I gave a 0 because the operator asked how the guy who told me to shut up treated me.
I had the same problem with my phones power button out of the box. I went to best buy and picked another one up. I told the rep not to update it cause it was a shot in the dark. He said he just got that one in that morning so i knew out the gate i was getting GB. I hope the hard working devs can do something. Im just patiently waiting my time. My tablet is out for service due to a bad motherboard so i dont need the hotspot right away.
Could always buy a good used EVO with root and sell your new one back to Sprint or on Craigslist to get your money back.
Never a problem on mine but my co-worker has been through 3 EVO handsets. One was the power button and other was the USB port not charging properly.
I just got a replacement due to my first Evo power cycling. My power button on this one is definitely more mushy. Hope it doesn't break down the road.

I wanted to throw mines against the wall... when the button wouldn't pick up I pressed it multiple times causing it to wake and go back into standby.
(by mushy I mean that the button would work, you wouldnt just feel the click it makes and sometimes it would fail to wake the phone)
The craigslist of puerto rico is called clasificadosonline lol...too much hassle, I rather wait patiently rather than crying/demanding root access like a ton of people here.
I really think the $7 insurance is the best protection one can have these days.
Thank god the sprint store I go to has nice reps and one if not the best manager in the island.
