Any solution for the music skipping? - Epic 4G General

same problem described in these other threads, haven't found a real solution yet. My music skips every time the phone loses signal or switches signal, has been happening to me specifically since i left froyo.
anyone know a fix? it's not the biggest deal but it gets really annoying after awhile, and doesn't seem like a problem we should be having.
i'm use poweramp and i'm on cm9 but it's happened to me on every rom since i upgraded from acs1.2

Are you talking about streaming or playing from your sd card? If you are streaming then nothing is going to fix that. Streaming means you are downloading the music as it is playing so if you lose signal you lose music. You would need to find some streaming music player that would cache a significant amount of music ahead so it had something to play for a few seconds if you lose signal. If it is from your sd card, it may need reformatting or get a faster sd card.

I have this problem too.. And he's right I don't remember it being an issue in froyo. I have the stock sd card and it went through a long period of never messing up so I really wouldn't think it was that.

I've had the same issue playing music from the sd card. It sounds almost like a digital hiccup.

I noticed that something changed with GB and the delay with accessing the sd card.

Most GB audio playback for me is smooth sailing compared to 2.2 and 2.1 Android, but it's unlistenable while using GPS navigation (like Google Nav), sometimes silenced for minutes at a time. And I have the guide voice muted. What about accessing data (on 3 or 4G) or GPS causes this crap? It seems like GB is more efficient about the phone's resources in all cases but this, and it's a really bad step backward from Eclair, let alone Froyo.

I've had this problem since 2.3 but when I switched to cm9 and started using the miui music player it stopped

I have this "issue" too. Playing music with 3g off to save battery, turn 3g on, and it "hiccups" for a few seconds. But once 3g is on it's fine. I also notice while downloading large files (or tethering) over 4g music "hiccups" and skips.

So it is sounding like since GB the radio when searching for signal sucks a tremendous amount of juice which we thought caused a lot of reboots on the GB leaks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

have this issue also. when I'm on my breaks at work and I'm outside (presumably on cell towers) and walk into my building (which has relays for the parts of the building that have no reception) i get a skip during the handoff, or when switching for 4g back to 3g.
during these handoffs i think the processor has to spend a moment too long making sure the phone is a phone and prioritizes being a phone above all else, like being and mp3 player.
it's worst for me when im in a part of the building that has a relay and is near a window. think it switches back and forth between the towers and building relays.
just my best non knowledge based guess.
i generally just run mp3 from my sd card.

thanks for the replies guys! i'm guessing then that there isn't an acknowledged fix yet in the community .
explosivequack, so the MIUI music player doesn't have this problem? I would love to stick with poweramp especially since i paid for it, but if miui player can do pretty much the same stuff then I might give that a try if it truly doesn't skip. thanks.
@kennyglass i'm pretty sure it isn't my SD card. i switched my stock one out for one of the fast ones a year ago, plus it never happened on froyo like the others said so i doubt that's the issue anyway.
i was hoping it was a 2.3 issue but i've been on cm9 since alphas and there's no change. I can always tell exactly when my music will skip if i'm driving on a familiar route because of the 4g deadzones.

Have you tried reverting to the EC05 modem to see if that helps? It is sounding more and more like heavy battery draw while trying to regain signal causing the skips.

[Q] Does the G2 have known FroYo 2.2 AAC audio playback issues?

Trying to decide whether it's a FroYo 2.2 issue or if my G2 may just be a dud.
Streaming radio such as Pandora, Slacker, and Grooveshark are really horrible in sound quality right now via line-out, especially over 3G. I get popping and crackling sounds often in-between tracks and generally the files sound distorted and/or flat.
After some initial research it appears to be a distinct possibility that it's an encoding issue and a known problem with FroYo 2.2 because app developers apparently were implementing pieces wrongly. Supposedly it's been fixed in 2.2.1 which just got released to the Nexus One.
Apparently the HTC Evo had the same issue and sprint recently pushed an OTA fix.
I'd post some reference links both to code.google.com and the HTC forums but as a new user the forum won't allow me to post outside links.
Is anyone else experiencing this? If so it's ultimately it's going to take either HTC/T-Mobile to step up quickly and release Froyo 2.2.1 OTA, for the individual app developers to change how they encode media, or someone to break the NAND lock and enable the use of custom roms.
If not I may just have a partially defect phone...
I've only tried Pandora so I can only say that it doesn't compare in quality to last.fm
I'm pretty shure that's not the issue. I've run Pandora through my G1 and a line-out adapter all the time with great sound quality.
I sould add though that I am also subscribing to Pandora One which gives me 192kbit streams through the mobile app.
Grooveshark and Slacker also both sound significantly better on my G1.

I listen to pandora all the time in my home and I've noticed a difference in audio quality. Sometimes it's noticeable, sometimes it's not.
Strange. I'm not worried about it. The quality isn't bad, just not as good as it should be. I'll wait for the ota(if it ever comes), and complain if it still occurs after that.
There is definitely a quality difference between Pandora on this phone and Pandora on my other Android phones I've had... it's been stated in other threads that there is a problem with Froyo and whatever codec Pandora uses to stream.
So at this point that means it's up to hoping then.
Guess that means it's time to pledge my $20 to the full root bounty so I can eventually installs 2.2.1 myself...

The new blur is far far far superior to the old blur. Much smoother and snappier. GB in itself is very smooth, even without overclocking. Its worth a try.
Agreed. Sorry to come off that way. Between folks semi bricking their phones and posting a thread about it. I kinda was like o_0 . I used to not like blur. But now stock GB at 1.25 GHz is great.

Put my phone on GB this morning. Cant comment on its battery life. I came from fission 2.6.1 and this seems alot smoother. I also got a 300point boost on quandrant. I have not OCed it yet but I am sure I will soon.
Exchange setup is different that before which threw me for a little loop but got it figured out.
Hope Pandora works ok this. on 2.6.1 after I unplugged my headphones pandora would pause and if I waited several hours before pluggin headphones back in and playin pandora again it would play the cached song then would close. Wouldn't give me a FC but just close out and then I couldn't get it to work again unless I rebooted phone..

i never had this issue on any of the fission ROMS, it may have been the version of Pandora you were running. the only recent issues i've experienced with Pandora is how it will sometimes kick out of the "station" and go back to the selection list. if you're walking along, you don't know if it's buffering or quit or what!!
new blur is big improvement. still hate the app force-feed of backup assitant and city ID, but nothing a little rooting can't take care of.
Ya that is what my pandora is doin. but it wont let me select a channel then. well it does but it kicks back out to station selection.
On GB haven't had that issue yet. I have had it close. so I am sure its Pandora's problem.
Has anyone got Corperate Sync to work on this GB. I can not get it to work I get failed to logon message everytime.
OC'd GB and got 2235 on Quandrant FYI 400 higher than I seen with fission i was getting 1800's at 1350.
But I run underclocked/undervolted just needed to try it out
when pandora acts like that (can't choose a channel), i usually quit it and open it again, seems to fix it, for a little while at least. not sure if it's a network issue.
pandora hasn't FC'd on me yet (knocking) and the headphone/phone call "coordination" seems to work better (unplugging headset pauses music, etc.). something weird that seems to happen is after i plug in a headset, pandora pauses, but only eventually. i don't think it's instant, usually it's like 30s or something.
Bluetooth and regular media volume are know linked together vs before headphone jack and bluetooth were seperate. Use headphone jack for car and bluetooth for my S9's. Kinda a bummer since I blar my music on S9's because i use them at the gym and then when I go to plug it into my car my car speakers about blow up LOL..
Has anyone seen the keyboard and botton 4 buttons not light up. Its a hit or mis if they light up on me. I noticed it last night when I was tryin to type in the dark. the lights are lighting up today but early this morning they did the same thing.

Music skipping?

My epic keeps skipping while playing music. Its only once every few minutes, but it throws you out of the mood. It happens with multiple players - Mort, poweramp, stock. I'm on ACS frozen, so voodoo audio is on there. Some of the files being played are ogg, as well as mp3. Anyone have any ideas on stopping it?
I had the same problem before, switching roms solved my problem.

Same problem on ACS frozen? What did you move to?
Raise your minimum cpu clock speed up to 200mhz, if that don't work I know the gingerbread leaks are good for audio

I was on Bonsai 4.0.1 rom when my music started skipping and I flashed to CK Urban Regeneration Rom & the problems stopped.
I have used stock ROMs and along with Bluetooth flakiness this is my #1 issue with the phone. I have only found one odd thing that seems to help with it, although it's not a cure-all.
I stopped reordering the apps in the TouchWiz drawer. You see, when they repopulate after boot, they aren't in perfect alpha order. I was using TW to reorder them and when I stopped doing that (strange as it sounds) skipping almost went away completely.
Unfortunately it still comes back. BG processes, CPU or RAM, I have no idea what the cause is. But I can hope GB will fix it.

Weird. I'm not using TW though. It feels very much like a cpu priority thing though. Something grabs the cpu for a few MS 100%. I tried setting my min speed to 400mhz and Its changed. I won't say its better, but its changed.
Yeah I noticed this yestrday. I'm on eh06. I was tethering to my computer playing battlefield 2 and playing music from the epic at the same time and every few minutes it would choke.
Like you said, its no biggie but it does change the mood lol
It doesn't bother me though, because I'm pretty sureits just. Random spike in cpu usage. All cpus do that

I had similar issue before. I think it's due to some error collecting overtime. I had problems when I had srf for more than a month. After I odin the phone, skipping went away. Also try formatting the SD card. Mine had corruption that I didn't know about. So I did a backup for important stuff only. After odin and freshly formatted SD, skipping issue was gone. Also I recommend stay away from overclocking/undervolting. I believe some bug is causing error which it accumulates over time. I think I saw someone saying from another thread that undervolting too much causes error that you need to odin to clean up.

Has anyone found a good solution to this?? I had the stock Gingerbread for about a week and didn't notice any issues with the music. I switched to CleanGB rom and started getting the skipping when playing music. Different music players, setting CPU mins/maxs differently doesn't seem to make any difference. I know I can go back to stock, etc... but I really don't want to wipe my phone and start all over again if not needed. Everything else seems to work great except for maybe the Wifi not locking as well as it should.
Thanks, Stephen
I've noticed on EI22 that I would get a little skiping when i pull away from home/work, just as i get out of wifi range.....when it drops the wifi and searches for a new access point/connects to 3G is when i hear the skipping. I just kill my wifi and 4G when i hop in my truck so neither of them are hunting around as i'm drivin around jammin to obnoxiously loud music playing from my sd,slackr or audiogalaxy. works for me - Currently running ERA Legendary ei22 rom/ei22 modem with latest IAP Kernel @200min/1340max w/on-demand gov

You may want to try changing the bit rate of the music you are trying to play using a program on your computer. I could not post a link because I am a new user, however google is a fast and easy way to find one.
problemis when I listen to music im usually driving, and if im driving im usually using navigation/maps...
I had a suspicion it was related to data pulls, so Im glad to see some sort of confirmation.
I was also using poweramp which i ditched.

CM9 Music Player?

does anyone know if this is dead or if the dev is just taking a break?
it appears to consume power like nothing i've ever seen, aside from that it's utterly amazing and i'm curious why it seems like it gets no love =/
I'm guessing its a memory leak that's affecting battery life. after playing songs for a while the gap between tracks gets longer and longer until the app is almost unresponsive

Yea, tbh, after realising that it didn't seem to be working great and that it didn't look nice (yea, I really care ), I dumped it and installed Play Music from the Play Store (well actually it was Google Music when I installed it ), oh and BTW, I live in the UK and you can install it in other countries, I cannot remember quite how (I think it was through the website, but I am sure you can find an apk on XDA).
Hope this helps.
Yeah I'm not sure about development on it since it may be official, I bet there is some going on. I've also noticed the 'gap' between tracks and along with that, it sometimes will still play after pulling out headphones and I've had it start playing out of nowhere. I'm sure it's not abandoned, I'll see if I can find anything about it.

Bluetooth audio skipping

I bought one two days ago when my note 4 spontaneously died, and while I'm super impressed with performance I'm finding that it utterly blows at Bluetooth audio!
It skips and stutters so much!
I did summer searching and it looks like they've been aware of it since November but I can't find any record of anyone saying it's fixed yet... Is there any indication its going to be solved soon?
Playing music from it is probably about 1/3 of its purpose, I'm not going to put up with this indefinitely.

What kind of bluetooth device are you using? I've got 5 different bluetooth devices (4 headsets and my car) and I dont have any issues with it at all (unless I'm running a CM rom, but it's been a while so maybe it's been fixed in those...)
It's just a question of curiosity really.
I think they tried to fix it in the latest build (March) but I still have some skipping on my Moto Stream. It seems less frequent and distracting than previously.
I tried the Android N preview and funnily enough didn't have any obvious skips but not sure I tried it for long enough to be sure. I think others have said they still have problems on the N Preview.
