After installing the software update, customers can now enjoy the optimized audio experience of Beats by Dr. Dre Audio™ and new and improved HTC Sense™ experience. Information about these features and more can be found at http://www.att.com/vividupdate. HTC Vivid™ will be the first U.S. smartphone to receive Ice Cream Sandwich as an update and the first to be issued by a wireless carrier. It will be followed by several other AT&T devices in the coming months:
LG Nitro
Motorola ATRIX 2
Motorola ATRIX 4G
Pantech Burst
Pantech Element
Samsung Captivate Glide
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
Focused on bringing the power of Android to the surface, Android 4.0 makes common actions more visible and lets you navigate with simple, intuitive gestures. Refined animations and feedback throughout the system make interactions engaging and interesting. An entirely new typeface optimized for high-resolution screens improves readability and brings a polished, modern feel to the user interface.
New User Features for HTC Vivid
Beats By Dr. Dre Audio™ - Enhance your music and video experience with Beats By Dr. Dre Audio. Whenever a media file is played using the media players or most third party applications, customers will experience richer, more authenic sound. AT&T recently debuted the Beats™ by Dr. Dre™ Beatbox Portable high performance wireless audio system. The superior portable system and Beats accessories are available at AT&T company-owned stores or online.
Face Unlock - Android 4.0 introduces a completely new approach to securing a device, making each person's device even more personal - Face Unlock is a new screen-lock option that lets you unlock your device using facial recognition. It takes advantage of the device's front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then to recognize it again when unlocking the device. Just hold your device in front of your face to unlock, or use a backup PIN or pattern.
How to Upgrade
Beginning today, customers can download the update via Wi-Fi by visiting http://www.att.com/vividupdate. If Wi-Fi is not available, you can download the software upgrade to a PC and install it via sideload. On March 23, HTC Vivid customers who have not downloaded the upgrade will begin receiving an SMS notification of upgrade availability.
Edit: I just learnt that this is old news. Motorola had already published ICS schedule on 15th Feb. Its covered in this thread. Apologize for duplicate thread, but hope that official At&T update press release adds value.

Strange. The press release is from yesterday. Before that it was speculation. Its official now. I don't know about others, but I like to use ROMS that are as close to official as possible + rooted and deodexed. So I am looking forward to this.
Also Atrix is the best phone I have used so far and this means that I am keeping it for at least 2 more years.
Not looking forward to a Blur ICS. Looking more towards the bigger picture of cm9 being awesome. Now if we could get the new Sense 4 on the Atrix....

It's been official for weeks that ICS is coming to the Atrix 4G. Motorola had this information out long ago.
Yeah, it was "Officially" announced by AT&T yesterday but Motorola "Officially" added the Atrix to the list last month.
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Check the link and you will see it is slated for "Q3 2012" and it says the page was updated on "15-February-2012".
And if you look at this thread you will see it was "coincidentally" created on the same day (Feb15):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499788
Motorola wasn't allowed to release an actual statement because AT&T is a control freak.

Agreed. For me its the best phone. I have (mis)used it for the last year and it works great! Its the right size. I am going to keep this till they iron out LTE bugs (battery life etc) and its rollout is substantial. Probably 2 years from now.

That's exactly why I'm pleased that ICS is being released for the Atrix, because CM9 development (official CM9 development, not the Kangs that are currently out) is going to need it for stuff like the hardware drivers. Code that's specific to the Atrix should work a lot better than code that's been cribbed and hacked from other phones.

Yeah I just checked it out. It looks better than GB Blur. But boy do I hate Blur. It's ugly. Along with CM7. AOSP CM9 is a huge improvement. Sense and CM9 are the best.

I personally can't wait for ICS with Blur... ics by itself (the cm9 roms at least) so far doesn't seem to have Facebook sync, I have found a few work arouns with haxsync and other programs, but its always nice to have the official tried tested and true applications.... I have had my atrix for about 3 months now, came from a LGP500, and when I first started using blur I didn't really think it was anything special, but when I u/l and modded my phone to ICS cm9, I really miss the functionality of blur, all the little extras help, like different options when you plug into USB, social updates, etc. plus the website for blur.... .2

GOOD NEWS! for Galaxy S owners, the Gingerbread man will be coming to Samsung Most popular smartphone (Galaxy S) Flag-ship.
Remeber, Earlier this Month, Samsung Mobile India Twitter feed tells the fact that the mobile will get Android 2.3 (Screenshot below), The company kept it short and simple with a brief tweet: "Yes we will get gingerbeard on GalaxyS." but no other info announced from the company about the update. As we know Samsung has released the Froyo to All users on Many worldwide Carriers on 11,November 2010 and All of them is Now enjoying Froyo and Waiting to taste the Gingerbread.
Well, Today we Got a Confirmation That Samsung Galaxy S is Getting Another Update probably on February,2011 may be Earlier and this update will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread onboard. Leaked ROMs and Videos may start rolling-out on January so Stay tuned, Enjoy your Froyo... Gingerbread is coming on the way to Make "YouMobile".
Gingerbread brings with it an improved user interface which is slicker and more streamlined, along with better power management. It also boasts one-touch word selection and copy/paste, support for multiple cameras and goodies such as NFC (Near Field Communications).

This is a joke for sure.
My S has Eclair, till this time there is no official froyo upgrade available for my phone and samsung is going to release gingerbread the coming February?
Are we talking about Samsung or about the comedy channel?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This is the difference between porting (having to program the drivers for about everything) and having a native release (like HTC on N1).
Now that NexusS is in the hands of Google, we can expect faster release!

Froyo has been out since October/early November, officially released by Samsung. Blame your carrier if your not getting the update. Contrary to belief, Samsung is quicker than HTC when pushing out updates, it's just that HTC devices have a much larger userbase on XDA, hence the quicker porting/updating.
2.2.1 has been out officially since September as well on N1,

N1 is the base on wich they developped the update, don't you think it's normal it gets prior updates?
It is also pretty usual that all the "clones" of N1 will get theses updates pretty fast, since HTC only have to put their bloatware on it and it's pretty much done!
Thanks! Hope this is true.
Is this website a reputable source?

Both of these are hardware dependant and both the Galaxy S doesn't have. The multiple camera support is for using with taking 3D pictures and/or recording 3D movies. And NFC is there so that android devices can attempt to get ahead of the iphone5 which is said to support it but these needs a dedicated chip.

Google can not give the gingerbread code out to companies until it has been officially released.
Meaning no company will have any advantage in the race for gingerbread.

I have had one problem with this phone since purchase in September. You need to try a custom rom with a kernel upgrade, not like there is any lag in stock JPU.
I don't get how so many people complain about this great device when it can be pimped out within 30 minutes.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Some Galaxy still don't have an official Froyo update yet. And the ones that do are still laggy. The 2.2.1 is finally a ROM that isn't laggy but its not official its a leak.
If Samsung comes out with Gingerbread they will screw it up. I'd rather have the community come up with a basic Gingerbread that works. And the community will do it long before Samsung does.
dude this is samsung, we all saw what happened with froyo and all the delays.
I have little hope for a febuary release, i say it's closer to june
2.2.1 is a revelation. I have put it on my galaxy s and its no longer laggy, really smooth, new market, lock screen wallpapers etc. Finally its transformed the phone into the powerhouse it always had the potential to be. I urge you all to get 2.2.1 ASAP!
Another phone looks to be coming in April, (via BGR). Hopefully we also get 2.4 as soon as this launches, and that we don't have to wait...

Should be interesting. Also, I had not heard of a ViewSonic phone before this article, and I am not sure if I am liking its design.
Nonetheless, based on what you said, it's good to see others come along and hopefully compete with Samsung, especially since so many people do not like or want a Samsung phone - other than to have Samsung's beautiful phone screen.

Well, the way they're treating N1 owners right now is rubbing me the wrong way, but I'm willing to give them benefit of the doubt. In fact, they could be just waiting till 2.4 is ready to give it to both Nexus 1 and Nexus S. We buy the Nexus phones partly because we are supposed to be given updates on a first priority basis. If Google decides to hold back 2.4 from us for another phone, they will have lost an Android supporter in me.

I'd be shocked if we didn't get the 2.4 update, at the time of its launch. Especially since 2.4 doesn't seem to be Ice Cream, but rather a touch of Honey glazed over Gingerbread.
While I am kind of new to Android (and smart phones in general), I cannot see Google keeping this update from us NS users. Although, I am a little surprised that the N1 hasn't seen Gingerbread yet (OTA from Google that is).
Just curious, how many updates did the N1 get from the time of its launch, and what Android version did it start with (Eclair or Froyo?).
I'm really surprised the N1 hasn't seen GB officially yet. I would be curious to see 2.4

Google has confirmed that it will update the existing Nexus S handset to new Ice Cream Sandwich Android software in the next few weeks, but has also said that its original Nexus One is ‘too old’ for the upgrade.
Google’s Hugo Barra confirmed that the latest version of Android will be delivered as a free upgrade to the existing Nexus S handset “within weeks”. He said the search giant was aiming to get the software to owners of the previous flagship phone shortly after the release of the new Galaxy Nexus handset next month, well in time for Christmas.
Owners of the first official Google phone, the Nexus One, will not be getting the upgrade, however. Barra said the hardware was simply too old to run the new operating system.
Google launched the Nexus One, which was made by HTC, in January 2010, and closed the phone’s support forum on 1 November last year. Some fans, however, had hoped that aspects of the latest version of the Android software would still be compatible with the phone.
Barra also responded to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s attacks on Android phones. He had said that users “needed a computer science degree” to use Android.
Barra retorted that “Android, especially this new version 4.0, is an incredibly intuitive platform – the best one we’ve ever built. There are power user features, but there is no need for an instruction manual or a computer science degree”, he said.
Barra added that criticisms in some reviews about slowness of the operating system were based on one faulty device at the launch event in Hong Kong. Barra said the new Galaxy Nexus offered 60 frames per second and was “buttersilk smooth”.
“The operating system is thought through with the needs of the next three years in mind; it’s a wholesale revamp of the way people interact with the phone,” he said. “It’s something we’ve designed for the masses; it continues to cater for power users really well but the entry level users will be able to use it really well too and make the phone their own.”

This is absolutely ridiculous. Our tablet came out in November of last year. It's less than a year old, and Samsung is dropping us already despite being a member of Google's so-called Update Alliance.
Guess Samsung hasn't changed at all from the old days.
If this pisses you off like it pisses me off, maybe we can shame them if we complain enough on their Facebook and Twitter pages, I already did:

In the end, if Samsung drops us like yesterday's garbage, at least we still have our great devs here, like we always have.
I feel very lucky to have the developers!
Updated the post with the Samsung Facebook and Twitter feeds that I complained on.
With Samsung's "galaxy this and galaxy that" devices with different hardware specs you cannot expect the samsung team to come up with updates to each and everyone of them. That is a big nightmare.
As for me I will never again make a mistake in buying a samsung device. Support for an expensive device from samsung really sucks!
And to discover later that the device is not really up to quality and seems "untested" thoroughly adds to the disappointment. Example is the warming of the GT after some time of using. I have to mention that after using a rival tablet(I won't mention the brand) no similar warming happened .

Can't we just get the damn drivers and source code... I trust the Dev community way more than any mfg

If we can get the driver source code, we should be able to build ics for tab, just like almost any modem computer can run linux...

After the official Gingerbread update for the GT-P1000 I am kind-of glad that Samsung are not touching the ol' 7".
I too prefer to put my faith in the development community. Look at Technomancer's CM7 port. That ROM really kicks some ass.
Opensource FTW!!!
We know that the Galaxy Tab is a powerful device as much as other devices that has been upgrade coming soon. This movement isn't good for Samsung because everybody will not trust in them. I think they have the best hardware in the market, but actually there are other companies that have work too hard, as Sony Ericsson.
shame on samsung
Just tested alpha2 of the first ics port - no network for data yet, but smooth feeling on p1000 - glad I bought that one ;-)

Used the Galaxy Tab P1000 before... changed to EVO3D (Asian edition cannot be hacked)... regret it to the max... who the hell wants to unlock the bootloaders from htcdev.com and void their warranty.. .definitely not me...
HTC, nice build quality, but really for a 1.2GHz dual core, it still kind of laggy... probably my hacked out Tab P1000 works much smoother... plus, with all the hacking and flashing and bricking my device TWICE, still manage to get warranty repairs by Samsung...
had the EVO3D for only 2 months.. just got rid of it and bought the shiny new Galaxy Tab Plus... this dual core tab really kicks some ass... and manage to root it easily...
multi tasking on the fly.. do you see the bar at the bottom, click on it and easy access to mini apps over your current running apps.... Nice...
I am never a brand fanboy, been using HTC since like forever, but the increasing "LOCKED" bootloaders philosophy by HTC is getting on my nerves... they forget, many gadget freaks are buying Android phones for their "customization and being open source"...
at time being, will stick to Samsung, and will put my faith on XDA developers to bring this device to the next level... long live XDA Developers...
Who needs samsung when you have a bunch of cool devs on XDA
Samsung did not release even 2.3 for Russia..This is funny to wait ICS)

Same here. Never had a Gingerbread update here in Australia (but that's my carrier's fault, I think) so jumped straight to Overcome and haven't looked back, apart from the odd dabble in CM7 and a quick run with Honeycomb.
I'm more than happy to wait for the devs to release an ICS build which will probably end up better than anything Samsung could've done anyway.
Alright, so many of you know that Motorola announced that it would in fact bring a software update for Ice Cream Sandwich to the Atrix. I emailed Motorola a few days ago and asked them when the update would come out.
This was the answer I received to my ETA question:
"The Ice Cream Sandwich(Android 4.0) Software Upgrade rollout for the AT&T Motorola ATRIX begins on the third quarter of 2012."
I guess that would mean we get ICS (officially) sometime this summer?
See this link for more details: https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Yeah, we've only known about it for 2 weeks now

I personally can't wait for chicken curry french fries for the Atrix.

I personally can't wait for Neutrino to be CM9 (ICS)!
But, I'm glad Motorola is going to release ICS for the Atrix. I figured since they were focused on newer devices, they wouldn't bother anymore. Even the Atrix 2 is out now.
I don´t really care where it´s from as long as i get ICS on my atrix. It still has a lot to give.
Thru use of deductive reasoning (lol )
One of the main speculations in the past as to why ICS wouldn't come to the Atrix was because of the webtop, and having to code a new webtop to work with the Motorola Code?
Since Canonical is openly advertising Ubuntu for Android, and the important line that its 'laptop environment' isn’t dependant or intrusive to the OS loaded to the phone. Maybe Moto is simply giving us ICS for the phone, with the Canonical software loaded. thus abandoning its proprietary 'webdock' for something that can be used across its entire lineup?
Thoughts?

That would be amazing... A bit hard to believe considering Moto's past, but still worth dreaming about.
yes
that is amezing i am really waiting for it thanks man for telling me this
Since Moto is heavily marketing the new RAZR with a very similar lapdock, I am fairly certain they worked out the issue with webtop and decided to throw us dinosaur-riders a bone.
However, the truth is - once I saw video of the new Asus padfone I was ruined. As soon as they are reasonable my Atrix and all its docks and accessories will be up for sale with no regrets.

The jokersax ICS ROM is AMAZING! Go try and it! It is still on Alpha but I have not experienced any bugs so far.
It depends on how good the stock ROM is as well, but custom ROMs are always usually superior.
LG Optimus 2x just got the ICS upgrade (Korean update) :/
Since the Atrix and the LG o2x are similiar... (date)
Thank you for reviving an ancient thread, and giving me a mini heart attack for a second thinking there were actually official news...

Why not naming a thread "I just got the ICS update !!!" with the following content "on my Galaxy S2" to be sure we all die...

You guys do realize you're now doing the exact same thing? Bumping the thread with offtopic posts and possibly giving others heart attacks.
