Optimize Epic for better Gameplay? - Epic 4G General

So, I've had the original Fruit Ninja on my Epic forever. It has never had a problem, always smoooth.
The "Puss in Boots" variant however, has always had hitches/lag during matches.
Fruit Ninja just updated on Android, and I now have some very considerable lag.
I'm running CM9 B1.
I realize that this probably has more to do with the App than the ROM. But is there anything I can do to get my silky smooth back?

This belongs in the APPS section.

Does it? Because, I'm asking how to alter my device to run an app better.

Gpu overclocking with the samurai kernel? Our gpu runs at 200mhz you could push to least 300mhz which is standard on newer phones I think anyways. Or a simple overclock to 1100? . I've purchased fruit ninja for 10cents so ill try it and see if I have the same results .

Yeah, I ought to mess around with that.
I've seen some buzz about it, though never played with it enough to get it working. Would Chainfire 3D do anything? (if it's even compatible with our ROM).

Yes its compatible it helps with 3d gaming so yes =] it does make my n64oid look better. But the best bet would to push the gpu a little more and it will run like a beauty.

Nice.. working on majoras mask just recently started on zelda games.. havent been a long time fan but once i knew i could play old games on my epic i did just so .
I used the beta EGL driver it allows for plugins and shaders.. tho i havent quite dug that deep. I use both Voltage control and Control Freak which earthbound helped make to work with his kernel. I prefer the samurai kernel when i could care less about battery but when i really want some Blife i use intellidemand. As for i/o it varies between vr and noop. vr when it peaks it outpreforms but can also go vice versa. And noop just seems like the all-around i/o.. being a very good true linux i/o.

Majora's mask is one that I've not played. In time =]

[Q] Can you Overclock the Droid 2?

Hey guys, I'm kind of new to the forum. Sorry if this is a frequently asked question, but I just was wondering if you can overclock the Motorola Droid 2 and if it's even worth it. Thanks!
If we could we would. The simple answer for now is No because the Bootloader is locked so we can't flash Kernels to OC

But yeah, basically just get ready to hurry up and wait. People will be working on it until someone gets in.
For now you'll just have to be glad you live in the future and get to carry computers in your pocket I guess.
Does this information apply to Droid 2? Everything I see on this post looks like it refers to the Sholes (Milestone, Original Droid) and not the Droid 2 (different hardware).
Heya. I'm the developer of QuickClock, another overclocking app in the market. I was wondering if many Droid2 owners had tried it out? I've added support for a bunch of devices that I don't have direct access too, so I'm hoping to get some confirmation that it does indeed work as it should.
Thanks much,
Paul
I was going to oblige you and try out your app, but it wasn't a free app.
I'm not going to pay to beta test it for you.
Mike
If you google droid 2 overclock, there are several sites with instructions on how to do it.
Root your phone and get the Droid 2 Overclock app by JRummy16 in the android market. Only $1.50 and worth every penny.
Many options, including profiles (screen on/off, temp, etc)
Choose your voltage (Ultra low, Low, Medium, High)
Overclock up to 1.45GHz (my phone can only take 1.35GHz on ultra low voltage)
*Be careful when overclock on low voltage. DO NOT check "apply on boot" until you know your cpu can handle what you have overclocked too, or you could be facing bootloops.*

It's definitely a great app; the customization options allow you to tweak the overclocking settings exactly to your liking, and the extra features (ad blocking, memory management) are a plus.

Good lord that app has a lot of features. It's pretty funny that my D2 is faster doing things @ 300 Mhz than my Eris @ 768 Mhz.
I'm keeping mine at 1GHz max but at very low voltage. I had some trouble running Hungry Shark 2 at anything higher. I tried all voltages so I don't know what the problem is since everything else ran ok even at higher clocks.
Anyhow I like to make a profile and run the priority/threshold down low to 10 or so. Makes it real responsive to touch & fling so it feels faster even at lower maximum clocks.

Linpack: 36
Neocore: 54.2 (although I saw it going as high as 62)
Enjoy
that's a bit of a downer on the computing side!
my n1 consistently gets 38-40 linpack. figured the dual core would do much better...
do these programs recognize the dualcore processor yet?
I really don't think they actually recognize the dual core models.

You are absolutely correct - must've had a brain cramp!
At what point does the android kernel begin to support multi-threading? I'm guessing we'll be seeing huge performance gains with 2.3/2.4 and as app devs begin building mt support in to their apps...

Open mouth, insert foot! DC means everything to the "tech heads" that know how to use it and build mt support in to their apps - and that includes the google devs.

That's fantastic. Let's try that again, though. What did you Nexus S pull when it was completely stock? 1500 or so?
Otherwise, as has been said already, the benchmarks are likely only taxing one core at the moment, as I doubt the kernel on the phone is setup for auto-aggregation, etc. Even if it is, apps written specifically for multi-threading will be significantly faster.
I love the Nexus S as much as the next guy, but let's revisit this conversation once the Atrix launches and has had a chance for some real dev support, shall we?

It doesn't necessarily have to be the app that supports multi-threading. If the kernel supports it then it would assign a core for the apps to work on based on the workload. This would speed up the system regardless of what the apps for designed for because the apps wouldn't know any better. Regardless though, it wouldn't help the benchmark if it is only one process. But then again, if it does everything you want better the last phone, does it matter? (I know I know... we all want our big numbers)
With any luck we'll find out today.

But in the case of benchmarking apps it would, because they are specifically designed to use all available resources. If they are single thread, they aren't using multiple cores.
These are some of the highest benchmarking scores I have seen out of the box, but I don't think they are optimized to use DC's yet.

Froyo supports dual core fine. It just doesn't support breaking up apps threads to schedule across both cores unless the app is multi-threaded.

You only use both cores when you need it, and 99% of the time the Atrix does not need to utilize both cores. You will see them kick in working full time when using the lapdock. I use System Tuner with Faux 1.0GHz and mild UV on Nottachtrix 1.3.1. Everything runs fine as far as CPU utilization goes.

I know that you only use both cores when you need it but when you underclock to let's say 750Mhz or lower, the second core will go offline after a while and stay like that. If you play a game or watch a video, the second core will still stay offline and one way to find out is to go to the "Times" tab in System Tuner, and you will see that the second core has not been working at all even when you play intensive 3D games or watch HD videos. This happens only when you underclock.

I believe the second core has to work when you are playing 3d games and watching HD videos regardless of the frequency. I basically want both cores to work at 750mhz but the second always goes offline and it never comes back. Even when browsing you can feel that its slower due to the second core not working.

strange I don't have that. Maybe because I'm running gingerbread stock based Nottachtrix ROM?

Why not just use the 1.3 ghz overclock kernel and underclock to 1.0 stock?

doesn't work either. Whatever controls the max frequency goes away...gets pushed out of RAM...returns to full overclock of 1.3ghz.

Overclocking Possibilities

Even though the GS4 already is clocked at 1.9 GHZ what are the possibilities for overclocking? 2.3 GHZ?

Most likely. The htc one can get around 2.0ghz for some people. Gotta factor the heat in. It depends

It depends where you want to draw the line, more performance with less stability, or slight increase of performance and good stability. The S3 was 40% overclockable, i think 2.1ghz was the max, althoug im not sure it was stable and cool at those speeds

Ya but as far as i know on the s3 that ended up being a math error in the kernel and it was really only 1.9ish.
This device might get really hot..

No it was not. Even today's kernels can go up to 2.1

Shrug.. believe whatever you want.. but there was alot of discussion a while back in ktoonsez kernel thread about it as he fixed some math that they all used for the s3 kernels that was giving out the wrong frequency, thus the 2.1 clock speed.
Feel free to believe yours is actually 2.1 though!

Math was fixed. Ive seen maybe two people with 2.1 tho highly unstable. Very highly unstable

The people with great CPU's and good heat dissipation will probably be able to hit 2.7 Ghz. :good:

lol noob he didnt prove me wrong, i was talking about the s3... go back under your rock
Samsung SoC are never the same, as evidenced with the S3. I would expect the S4 will be the same.
There will be an extremely small amount of people who will be able to push there CPU a hundred hertz or two higher do to luck of the batch, but other then that I would guess stable OC's at 2.3 to 2.4ghz. The hardware in the GS4 is top notch so I have high hopes for it! If I can slam 2.2ghz stable for a couple months solid, I would be tickled ^^

2.1ghz is possible on S3, go check in 747 forums and see for yourself

Can we please stay on track? This isn't the S3 forum. I understand you have a point to make but so does everyone else but in the right section. Just take it to private messages
Not trying to be a **** but this S3 discussion needs to stop so we can discuss S4 overclocking.

We are on track, evolution on the S3 can probably be taken into consideration for the S4. Stop being to soft about where the thread is heading. Like ktoon said himself, 2.7 on the S4, that does look like the 40% i was referring to about the S3. So my point is made and it does have a lot to do with this thread.

Basically this sums it up... most noobs out there who know nothing about the s3 think it ran at 2.1 because the math error was not fixed for a very long time. Once it was fixed, only a couple of people with a golden processor could actually set the dial to 2.1, and even those people crashed within a couple of minutes.
Not gonna argue with a known troll... loved watching your angry rewrites of your post over and over though!
As to talking about the s3, it was being discussed as a comparison... if the s3 can overclock X much, then the s4 can probably do something similiar. Since ktoonsez was nice enough to take a guess at what the s4 will do, we dont have to speculate as much now.
HAHAHAHAH, known troll!!! HAHAHAHAH Good one!
You just messed up, you cannot live with the fact that i was right and you were wrong. I never did say it was stable, you just assumed i did. You just cannot say "hey polish, i'm sorry for being such a newb, you were right, the S3 can run a 2.1ghz and that math problem turned out to be fixed anyways"
The difference between me and you is that I speak the truth, you in the other hand call others noobs when clearely, you are the noob here and to try and save yourself, you try to make other look bad.

Bump?
I feel like this thread was never answered. I have recently rooted my phone for the first time, and I have been trying to overlook it with no such luck. I watched a few videos, and even posted a thread on Linus Tech Tips, but they are not as focused on phones as this site is. They sent me here and wished me luck on overclocking my phone. So to get to them point, I have no clue how to overclock my GS4 SGH-I337 on AT&T. I did successful root it, and I used root checker to make sure. I am hoping that you guys can help me, or redirect me to a forum that may have already explained in detail how to overclock.
Thanks!
