[Q] HD2 / WP7 / battery life (Mango/Tango) - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi,
I use ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953078
When I use Mango verion (up to 1.26 (build 8107)). Battery life is ok (up to 9mAh).
When I tried to use Tango (2.00b, 2.00b2, 200b3), battery consumption is about 40mAh with the same settings as mango ...
Whant can I set to reduce consumption?
(BT off, Location off, WiFi off, data off or email after 15minutes, 3G off, camera trick used)
Thx,
Petr

How I can check usage battery ? (mAh)

you can use HTC Battery tool from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10762409&postcount=64

Battery current - is this what I am looking for ?

yes, barrety current ... .
if you can check it, leave phone locked few minutes, unlock it and check values.

...and better when status (current battery) is lower or higher ?

if its not on charge then the lower it is the better, if its on charge youd hope it was increasing the available charge

Hi,
please, do you have any experience or knowledge about problem from first post?
(I checked I have problem with BT HF connection too - in tango. I need pair HF again and again.
If I use Mango, connection with BT HF is very quick and I paired devices one time only)
Thx.
Petr

When i run battery tool level battery is strange... For example Battery current is (minus) -456. What is the cause ?

Your battery drain is very high. Check if you have apps running in the background. Are you using WiFi?

Check its charged, it may report high drain but if the battery is half full but showing its full then it can appear to drain twice as fast, also the backlight is the biggest draw of power which doesn't work right,, im amazed its fallen on deaf ears when brought up

I highly recommend you use this ROM instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833

I experience a much better battery life with 3G and BT on, WiFi and locations off.
Camera trick soesent work, because this rom uses radio 5.71.

Thank you.
(Mango)
BT on settings is perfect (-5mA), until I connect and disconnect to BT HF ...
If I disconnect, battery is -45mA whole time.
If I set BT to off, battery is -5mA again ...
I have bad 3G signal .. so 3G off is better than 3G on FOR ME.
(Tango up to 2.00b3)
Battery was -40mA for all time ...

extended battery 2300mAh
Is there a rom that works on an extended battery 2300mAh ? I apologize for my language

Tango 2.00b5 - drains battery like a HELL, as other roms too... I don't know those guys were talking about when saying up to 4 days bat life on this forum, but no matter what rom I use, it's less than 1 day bat life without calls, wi-fi and data! With wi-fi - less than 1 hour. Why this crap still can't be fixed since first rom was ported?? It's completely no point to use WP7 in this case.

I use last Mango ...
If I don't use phone, few days (3-5) phone "using" is possible
(BT off, wifi off, Location off, data on, 3g off (bad signal for me), email (15minutes), camera trick after reboote )
If I use phone, 1-2 days are without problem ...
I tried to use Pdaimatejam Rom, but I had problem with restarting and phone temperature ...

Same, wifi, bt off, downgraded roms, tried camera tricks, etc. even bought a new battery, still same...
HTC Tool reports anything from -881 to -5

when i used rom from hd2owner battery consumption was large. about -40.
with pdaimatejam rom everything is ok. consumption is about -5.
I have disabled everything for maximum battery life.

excessive battery consumption... help needed

Hi.
i am using Touch HD with extended 2600mAH battery and lots of software but the battery barely last a day. i was hoping you could help me diagnose the problem.
configuration :
-duttys XT 3.0 using manila
-1 hour of talk time a day at the most
these are my main suspects :
-checking for mail on two accounts every half an hour
-S2U2 1.62
-phonealarm
-pocketbreeze new PB2
-touchresponse
i installed nueDynamicClock but i can't see any difference.
first of all, maybe this sounds normal to you ? maybe my device is defected ? i'm sure the battery is ok.
maybe someone knows a good battery diagnostic program...
any comments you have on any of my suspected software ?
thanks,
david
Try this, quoted from official HTC site:
My battery drains fast even without using Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS. Is there any way to check if it’s faulty or not?
1. Charge the battery to 100%. 2. Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications. 3. Disable Bluetooth. 4. Disable WiFi. 5. Enable flight mode 6. Set backlight to maximum settings. 7. In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off. 8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity. 9. If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.

well obviously this doesn't help me too much because, as stated, the battery last almost a day with full usage so this diagnostic will be a negative... but surely something is wrong. Thanks anyway.
didn't anyone have any problems with one of the above ?
Max battery life
Battery drain in almost a day is quite normal with most of the roms
exception, i flashed Black Pearls v2.4 rom and the battery is still 20 to 30% at the end of the day. myself satisfied with the performance of this rom...

i was wondering about any diagnostic tools allowing me to see the consumption without waiting a whole day to compare, any on knows of any ?

Why dont you check the idle cpu usage when your phone is on but not doing anything. It should be 98-99% most of the time. If you get high cpu usage by shell or services then it is most probably phoneAlarm or other plugins on Today screen.
If you are using wifi, make sure you set it to off when standby. (Note: If you are using AE Button (mine is v2.63) and if you use it to turn ON wifi, the wifi will not go to sleep even in standby thus draining battery)

[How to?] Control data battery heavy heavy HEAVY drain

I used the search button, didn't find anything with my same problem (if it was alredy asked sorry)
Hi to all, I noticed that on my HD2 the only thing that drains too much battery is 3G connection...
It drains at the point that is impossible to charge the phone when the data network is on!! (tried, 2 hours charging, locked on 8% battery)
also.. the antenna gets hot.. it drains in the same way even if i'm in standby!
I'm just wondering... is there a way to modify battery draining? reduce voltages or something close to cpu undervolting/underclocking? I think it's draining even more power than it needs (in winmo doesn't get so hot and doesn't drain so much)
It's only my issue and anybody else noticed that heavy drain? please let me know...
my setting:
ROM: axlor leo v3 (it's android compatible, means no robot voice during calls)
RADIO: 2.12
ANDROID: hyperdroid v 1.6 (kernel michyprima as you can dl from hyperdroid page)
Bye
Are you using wifi? Once the phone gets too hot it will stop taking a charge
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
As already stated the problem is only 3g related, wifi doesn't give any problem, it drains battery normally.. The phone in stand by doesn't get so hot to justify the charge stop, it just drains all the power given by the adapter...

Sorry, but seeing the title of this topic I just had to do it.
Good one
But seriously, did you ever tried another radio? I got the same, but my HD lasts min. 1 day and when I charge it never gets hot..
That's not very good, did you tried with SetCPU and a profile that set the clock to a lower frequency when you charge? Maybe that will work..

Nice ^_^
@JanssoN what radio are you using?
Anyway it's only a matter of 3g connection, if it's turned off, battery can reach 2 days of duration (I use wifi in my house and use phone for texts and some internet) and there is no overheating even in case of charging...
When I charge the phon with data (3g, not wifi) on, it doesn't get hot, it just doesn't charge
any idea?

I'm using the same radio, that's why I think it's a strange issue.. Did you try to change the WM-ROM? Maybe that's the problem, I dunno, never heard about such an issue?
My Setup looks like this:
Radio 2.12.50.02_2
WM ROM Chucky Droid GTX Light with Android Bootloader
Mattc 1.8 with sense
Why don't u try to install SetCPU and create a profile that sets the clock frequency to some lower speed at chargin?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734886&highlight=setCPU[/url]
Try and report back.
I have exactly the same problem, phone gets very hot on 3G, and battery drains quickly. On WiFi, everything's cool
stock 1.66
2.12.50.02_2
darkstone's DesireHD
Why don't you both try to upgrade on the new 2.14 radio? I heard that it should be very stable. You have to search, don't know which thread it was.
Will try as soon as I have time, thanks for help..
It seems to be android build/ROM indipendent as d4v0r has different setup and same problem... so maybe radio will solve
Ok, maybe this will work.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
solved (?)
Trying radio 2.15, it seems more stable, no high temps for now and battery drain is normal
Sounds good
tested for 2 days: new autonomy:12 hours of 3G on with applications download, twitter updates, web browsing, autoswitching from 3G-G-H and no signal at all.
Everything in "moderation" that is, normal use (for me)
No high temp.
So... try to update ^_^
3g shouldn't be exceeding what your charger can supply. Are you using the original charger and more importantly ate u using a cheep cable. If i use a cable that's can't cope with high currents you will draw power faster than can be supplied.
Been there. Had a replacement cable that when tethering with PC wouldn't charge.
If you don't have setcpu installed. For God sakes install it.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
The problem (for me) is now solved, it was a radio issue. autonomy with data on passed from something like 6 hours or less to 12 which is good, maybe less time than other are experiencing but it varies from winmo rom to winmo rom i suppose.
SetCPU is my friend from the first android and it keeps my cpu to 768 max while in use and 245 max on screen off, i use ondemand governor cause conservative keeps the devices to slow for me
i also notice my battery drive fast....

Hi Harky, nice to see you here! Which Android ROM are you using, btw?
Base is Energy Rom
Using ★shubCRAFT 1.5★CM6 Final★
Radio: 2.12.50.02_2
Do ur rom drain alot of battery too
Maybe try this rom for one week and see how is other rom...
in the morning till now.. i notice i lost at least 30% battery. When i m standby mode and surfing a 30min net
Hi Harky, try the new radio (2.15.etc.etc) which for me made a great job
Anyway we still can't expect a droid build least the same time of a winmo build, but for me a day (12h duration cover good part of my day XD) is very good...
Next step for me should change winmo roms and try if there are differences...
If I'll do that, I'll post results..

I am also having massive battery drain.
According to the Battery saver under settings, I was at 100% 5 hrs ago (estimated 1 day and 19 hrs of usage left).
5 Hrs from when i unplugged my device from charger, it is now 2 hrs left (which i estimate to be 30 minutes before the device goes dead).
battery is horrible on this build. anyone else?
btw, my bluetooth doesn't work either.
strange, please try to do camera trick. My HD2 7720 use 10% battery per 7 hours. so far so good. Btw I can not install .xap file on 7720, is this rooted or not ?
How come is this related to development, this thread belongs to Q&A.
Please Post in the correct forum.
can someone please confirm if the camera trick is simply:
1. go into camera app.
2. click into video mode.
3. exit to main screen by pressing start button?
is that it? am i missing something?
if it is that easy, where is there SO much junk just to specify how it's performed?

so, use 2 batteries if you don't have right autonomy

unplugged this morning at 7 am

so 14 hours
max of 1 hour calls.

Green Mango (mango beta 1)
anyone measured the current drain with HTC battery tool, im just finishing updating the 7720 language packs and will test it .. It will be nice if we could update the radio with the WP7 update cab sender.. we could try other radios, i know that the 5.51T works very well with my 2 t-mobile HD2´s.
Particularly my battery has lasted as in other versions. But now I started using economic mode available in Mango, which in turn made it last longer still.

[Q] Battery Status / Lifetime at Pdaimatejam ROM

Hi Guys!
I have flashed my HD with Pdaimatejam ROM, this rom is awesome! But I have one question:
Every time I made a hard reset, my battery status show about 1 day and 10 hours of lifetyme in 100% of charge.
After 5 or 6 days, HD2 shows about 20hours in 100%. and so on...
This happened also in ROM HD2O I had installed few months ago!
This is normal? Or a radio problem?
Radio Version: 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10u
Thanks!

The estimation is based on your current consume ....
I think is more relevant to monitor your real battery drainage using a dedicated application like "Battery Status" or "BatteryTool".

How i can control with Battery status or Battery tool?
Hi!
WP has to "learn" how you use it so the first week or two you'll notice the battery status changing a lot It is practically unusable so I would recommend (like mentioned above) that you install battery status or the htc battery tool. You can find the xap-files on the forum if you do a little searching ;-) As an alternative you could look on marketplace - there are a few apps out there for the purpose!
If you need help to figure out how they work - just ask! :-D
/Anders
Hi Anders!
Thank you for your kindness in quote! I downloaded the battery tool, and from what I understand it only shows the percentage of the battery, right?
Also downloaded the HTC battery tool, it shows me some more accurate data, but do not know how to use them, you could help me to improve?
I noticed that my HD2 spends too much power in standby (like 4 or 5 percent at hour without use, with 3g, wifi, localize and more off), is there any way to minimize this?
Thanks so much!
hug
Sergio
ps: sorry my bad english, im Brazilian!
Hi again!
No worries about your english - understand perfectly ;-)
You are right about the battery app from the marketplace only shows the voltage and percentage remaining. Its nice for your startpage but other than that not that usable.
The HTC battery app on the other hand gives you a great deal of info! What you have to look for is battery current. It should be between 5 and 10 when you have had the phone on standby for some minutes with the settings you describe...
Anything else you would like to know?
/Anders
Sorry to be asking me all the time, but you are helping me right! Thank you!
I installed the tool for HTC battery, the tests and did as you instructed me! it shows the values of -80 to -100: |, is this normal?

drainage and heating is not connected only to those settings, i got on mine all that turned on, + mail sync ewery 30 minutes, and battery lasts ower 24 hours with normal day usage (surfing on 3G is most intense on battery for me)
Its hard to say what is causing high battery drainage, because for me first it was SD card, so after I changed it ewerything was good for day or two, than my screen broke (tough luck) and while i was fixing it, i used an old iPhone which broke my sim card (more tough luck) in way that celular data didnt work, and that caused teriblle drainage when I fixed HD2. So after replacing sim card it was ok again (2+ days on batery saver prediction, but usualy lasts for day and half).
p.s. I use yuki-xbmod rom on adata 8gb C4 sd card

if I let those things turned on, my battery life is halved, this may not be the main but I think it works, right?
I'm using a SD SanDisk's 16GB class 6, once wore a sandisk 8gb class 4 and nothing has changed about the battery life .. it's not strange?
Does the capacity of the SIM influences that too? there are various SIMs sizes right? mine is very old: D
That does sound strange I must say :-( Could you try to turn on flight-mode, let it rest for 30 mins or so and then check the batterystatus again? Then at least we can tell if the radio is draining the phone or not!

Battery life with WP 7.5 / 7.8 - your thoughts?

Hi XDA!
I wonder if anyone is using WP 7.5/7.8 in productive daily environment, as my feeling is that battery life is really short. While fully charged and camera trick applied, i got a drop from 100 to 75% charge while using wifi for around 15 minutes (downloading apps).
With android installed as nativesd, i´m able to use it for max 2 days w/o charging.
What is your experience with these roms?
Thanks for your opinion!

Are you sure "camera trick applied" properly?
This battery usage seems a bit extreme with camera trick.
Also, maybe your battery is no good/old

Got Lumia 610 updated through NCS yesterday, while battery was fully charged.
Earlier, on WinMo 7.5, on a daily average use, the battery use to shell out at least 3-4 days of power with the mobile data connection enabled.
But, on 7.8, the battery drain is actually more, only after a day of use, the battery level dropped to 43% showing 19 hours of standby time.
That's just the stock ROM, from Nokia, haven't had any experience with custom ROMs.
Maybe the CNN application and Hike messenger are drawing on more power.
Thanks in advance.
advises for all WP7:
- turn off 3G, use E (2G)
- turn off BT and WiFi when not used
- increase or turn off mail checking time
- dont use (or reduce numbers) of Live tiles
- turn off background tasks in settings - applications - background tasks (after that you must manually update this applications but you lower battery consumption
also you can manually turn on Battery saver, go to "Settings - battery saver" and check "Turn on Battery Saver now, until next charge"... notice: with this apps wont work in background, emails not be received automatically...

Thanks dxdy. I yesterday installed pdaimatejam's "1_HD2 Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.8 OS 7.10.8858.136 RMT v8.7" custom rom on nand. Battery used to drain very fast. Now did what you said and applied the camera trick too. Whatsapp running in background, with 2G, battery current after 2-3min idle is -19. Thats the lowest I can go. Before it was -178 at idle. So is it normal now ?
And I have not tried nand android ics rom. Do it have a better battery backup than nand wp7 ?

How much battery life are you getting now? I'm also having problems trying to squeeze out life of wp7.8 which is a shame seeing that the rom otherwise is completely functional.
Also what tool are you using to determine the current draw?
