what is this camera trick? link?

I am also having massive battery drain.
According to the Battery saver under settings, I was at 100% 5 hrs ago (estimated 1 day and 19 hrs of usage left).
5 Hrs from when i unplugged my device from charger, it is now 2 hrs left (which i estimate to be 30 minutes before the device goes dead).
battery is horrible on this build. anyone else?
btw, my bluetooth doesn't work either.

strange, please try to do camera trick. My HD2 7720 use 10% battery per 7 hours. so far so good. Btw I can not install .xap file on 7720, is this rooted or not ?

How come is this related to development, this thread belongs to Q&A.
Please Post in the correct forum.

can someone please confirm if the camera trick is simply:
1. go into camera app.
2. click into video mode.
3. exit to main screen by pressing start button?
is that it? am i missing something?
if it is that easy, where is there SO much junk just to specify how it's performed?
sheeze?

don't be stupid

this is the camera fix, it's in the first page of this forum wp7 discussions
it's simply.. all witch has hd2 tmobile 1gbNAND HAS HIGHT BATTERY DRAIN.
who have hd2 europe 512mbNAND HAS HIGHT BATTERY DRAIN IN 2GMODE, not in 3G
camerafix works only with 5.51T radio
YOU CAN'T CHANGE RADIO IN YUKI'S AND XBMOD'S ROM, it changes every upgrade with new one.
so, use 2 batteries if you don't have right autonomy

Guys..with some roms like Yuki v5, you need to reboot if you have charged your phone to full..to show correct reading and drain..so try it:]
Sent from my Schubert using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Can you guys with 7720 build post the battery drain, to see how much drainage the build has?

unplugged this morning at 7 am
its now 17.23 pm and battery life sais it has 4 hours left (with battery saving, wich is now on)
so 14 hours
max of 1 hour calls.
evrything is off (bluetooth, 3g, location, xbox, wifi, etc). only thing on is data connection for echange mails and schedule. this syncs all the time

Green Mango (mango beta 1)

anyone measured the current drain with HTC battery tool, im just finishing updating the 7720 language packs and will test it .. It will be nice if we could update the radio with the WP7 update cab sender.. we could try other radios, i know that the 5.51T works very well with my 2 t-mobile HD2´s.

Particularly my battery has lasted as in other versions. But now I started using economic mode available in Mango, which in turn made it last longer still.

in theory, it should work, but it wont help considering how fast the battery is draining on the hd2 with 7720.
i already tried.

excessive battery consumption... help needed

Hi.
i am using Touch HD with extended 2600mAH battery and lots of software but the battery barely last a day. i was hoping you could help me diagnose the problem.
configuration :
-duttys XT 3.0 using manila
-1 hour of talk time a day at the most
these are my main suspects :
-checking for mail on two accounts every half an hour
-S2U2 1.62
-phonealarm
-pocketbreeze new PB2
-touchresponse
i installed nueDynamicClock but i can't see any difference.
first of all, maybe this sounds normal to you ? maybe my device is defected ? i'm sure the battery is ok.
maybe someone knows a good battery diagnostic program...
any comments you have on any of my suspected software ?
thanks,
david
Try this, quoted from official HTC site:
My battery drains fast even without using Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS. Is there any way to check if it’s faulty or not?
1. Charge the battery to 100%. 2. Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications. 3. Disable Bluetooth. 4. Disable WiFi. 5. Enable flight mode 6. Set backlight to maximum settings. 7. In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off. 8. Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity. 9. If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.

well obviously this doesn't help me too much because, as stated, the battery last almost a day with full usage so this diagnostic will be a negative... but surely something is wrong. Thanks anyway.
didn't anyone have any problems with one of the above ?

Why dont you check the idle cpu usage when your phone is on but not doing anything. It should be 98-99% most of the time. If you get high cpu usage by shell or services then it is most probably phoneAlarm or other plugins on Today screen.
If you are using wifi, make sure you set it to off when standby. (Note: If you are using AE Button (mine is v2.63) and if you use it to turn ON wifi, the wifi will not go to sleep even in standby thus draining battery)

Mine is the same way. Just a few minutes (10 to 15) doing things on mine from a fully charged battery and it goes down 20%.
I think it has more to do with magldr than the ROM, though. My other HD2 is using a cLK version of Tytung Android and it is the actual first Android build I've ever used that has acted like a stock ROM. The battery life is great and in standby it stays charged really well. Not so with the magldr version. In standby with the same ROM booted with magldr, the battery drops quickly.
There are people here experimenting with different radios to try and get the battery drain down. Both the hardware and software radios and different combinations of both.
As changing the hardware radio is easier at the moment than the software one (you have to re-flash and update to mango), you may want to try that.
Good luck
I have the same configuration but mine works fine (after doing the camera trick the battery last more than 24 hrs.). Maybe it is due to the battery lifetime, capability, quality or any other hardware issues.

Everytime you start the phone or after a reset, you have to do the camera trick.
Also, when you take a picture... before you shut down the camera, do the trick again.
After the MANGO installation, also download and install 2.12 Radio. That seems to be keeping the drain down a little. After I installed the 2.12 radio AND keeping an eye on the camera trick is done, the phone lasts for 1 day and 9 hours. (It's been 1 day and 10 hours now, 11% left...)
update 2.12 rom works!
update. I flashed with 2.12 rom, then did a factory reset, then camera trick.
Now 16 hours after the charge, made a few phone calls and some light internet surfing, I still have 48% battery. This is a remarkable contrast from yesterday. Don't know if this is due to 2.12 or the camera trick, but the combination of the two definitely worked. Now I ca keep my Mango

I also flashed 2.12 earlier today and have just now done a reset (in the "About" menu) and am going to see if it helps with the BL. Mine was down to about 45% after just probably 3 or 4 hours...in standby. Not being used at all.

Regarding flashing the 2.12 radio and then resetting it, something helped. I won't say flashing the 2.12 radio helped because I flashed it first and later I did the reset. My HD2 still drained faster than an old Chrysler sucking gas through a straw. But after the reset, it is still at about 85% since last evening about 8:30PM. It is currently 1:11PM the next day. So that gives me about 17 hours on this one charge. And no, I am not exaggerating. My previous post lists the time I flashed it to 2.12...actually before I made the post. And I just now took another look at it....about 5 minutes ago. It hasn't been used at all during that time period and, in fact, I haven't even set it up yet....no wifi, no syncing of any kind, not even signed into my account. After resetting it, I simply set it aside and did nothing with it. So lets see how it does after I begin using it again...syncing, turning on wireless and all.
My current is -318!!! And I only have 3G on. I tried the camera trich and it does nothing. Any other suggestions.

I'll help.
Put your HD2 in bootloader screen by powering off first, then press and hold the down-volume button and tap the power button. Hold the down-volume button till the red/green/white screen appears.
Then connect your HD2 to your PC and at the bottom is should say USB once Windows sees it.
Once you have the appropriate radio file downloaded and unzipped, open its folder and click the "LeoCustomRUU.exe" file. You may need to right-click and open it with "Run as Administrator".
Go through the checks and it will flash the radio. Once finished, disconnect your HD2 for your PC. It will reboot and your new radio is flashed.
Regarding the battery usage of my HD2 after a reset, I can report that I'm now seeing above normal battery life. Earlier today, around 1PM, I set up my HD2 and established all my accounts...3 email accounts, FB, Twitter with default syncing...and enabled wifi. All of the usual stuff I normally use except the installation of all my previous apps.
Currently the battery is exactly 70%, according to the built-in battery saver menu in the settings. It has not been charged since yesterday about 8:30PM. That's approaching 24 hours since a charge.
EDIT - I took a picture of the current battery condition. It shows time since last charge and time left on charge plus the current charge level.

I have been using the camera trick, but I don't really have faith in it that it is doing anything useful. Once I see how far this first charge will go, I will do more experimenting like not using the camera trick. Right now I want to leave my HD2 exactly like it is...not using it, just leaving it in standby...till the battery dies out.
It's actually not all that good for standby battery life. Being in standby, it should last much longer than the projected 54 hours on this one charge. My iPhone will last longer than a week in standby. My Inspire and other HD2 with Android lasts about the same as this, though.
And the reset I speak of is in the "Settings" > "About" screen. At the bottom of the screen is the "reset your phone" rectangular box.

Damn, that's nice I manage 1 day and 18 hours on a full charge, according to the battery saver app. As soon as I go to work I use the internet a little (Twitter/Facebook/IE). By the time I get to the office (40 minutes), it dropped a good 30%.
When i'm not using the phone, it's good, 1% per hour or so. As soon as I start using it a little, it goes down like an elevator on meth.
What I also noticed, is that when the signal is not very good, the battery will drain up to 6/7% per 30 minutes... i have no idea what that's about.

[Q] Battery Status / Lifetime at Pdaimatejam ROM

Hi Guys!
I have flashed my HD with Pdaimatejam ROM, this rom is awesome! But I have one question:
Every time I made a hard reset, my battery status show about 1 day and 10 hours of lifetyme in 100% of charge.
After 5 or 6 days, HD2 shows about 20hours in 100%. and so on...
This happened also in ROM HD2O I had installed few months ago!
This is normal? Or a radio problem?
Radio Version: 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10u
Thanks!

The estimation is based on your current consume ....
I think is more relevant to monitor your real battery drainage using a dedicated application like "Battery Status" or "BatteryTool".

How i can control with Battery status or Battery tool?
Hi!
WP has to "learn" how you use it so the first week or two you'll notice the battery status changing a lot It is practically unusable so I would recommend (like mentioned above) that you install battery status or the htc battery tool. You can find the xap-files on the forum if you do a little searching ;-) As an alternative you could look on marketplace - there are a few apps out there for the purpose!
If you need help to figure out how they work - just ask! :-D
/Anders
Hi Anders!
Thank you for your kindness in quote! I downloaded the battery tool, and from what I understand it only shows the percentage of the battery, right?
Also downloaded the HTC battery tool, it shows me some more accurate data, but do not know how to use them, you could help me to improve?
I noticed that my HD2 spends too much power in standby (like 4 or 5 percent at hour without use, with 3g, wifi, localize and more off), is there any way to minimize this?
Thanks so much!
hug
Sergio
ps: sorry my bad english, im Brazilian!
Hi again!
No worries about your english - understand perfectly ;-)
You are right about the battery app from the marketplace only shows the voltage and percentage remaining. Its nice for your startpage but other than that not that usable.
The HTC battery app on the other hand gives you a great deal of info! What you have to look for is battery current. It should be between 5 and 10 when you have had the phone on standby for some minutes with the settings you describe...
Anything else you would like to know?
/Anders
Sorry to be asking me all the time, but you are helping me right! Thank you!
I installed the tool for HTC battery, the tests and did as you instructed me! it shows the values of -80 to -100: |, is this normal?

drainage and heating is not connected only to those settings, i got on mine all that turned on, + mail sync ewery 30 minutes, and battery lasts ower 24 hours with normal day usage (surfing on 3G is most intense on battery for me)
Its hard to say what is causing high battery drainage, because for me first it was SD card, so after I changed it ewerything was good for day or two, than my screen broke (tough luck) and while i was fixing it, i used an old iPhone which broke my sim card (more tough luck) in way that celular data didnt work, and that caused teriblle drainage when I fixed HD2. So after replacing sim card it was ok again (2+ days on batery saver prediction, but usualy lasts for day and half).
p.s. I use yuki-xbmod rom on adata 8gb C4 sd card

if I let those things turned on, my battery life is halved, this may not be the main but I think it works, right?
I'm using a SD SanDisk's 16GB class 6, once wore a sandisk 8gb class 4 and nothing has changed about the battery life .. it's not strange?
Does the capacity of the SIM influences that too? there are various SIMs sizes right? mine is very old: D
That does sound strange I must say :-( Could you try to turn on flight-mode, let it rest for 30 mins or so and then check the batterystatus again? Then at least we can tell if the radio is draining the phone or not!

[Q] HD2 / WP7 / battery life (Mango/Tango)

Hi,
I use ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953078
When I use Mango verion (up to 1.26 (build 8107)). Battery life is ok (up to 9mAh).
When I tried to use Tango (2.00b, 2.00b2, 200b3), battery consumption is about 40mAh with the same settings as mango ...
Whant can I set to reduce consumption?
(BT off, Location off, WiFi off, data off or email after 15minutes, 3G off, camera trick used)
Thx,
Petr
How I can check usage battery ? (mAh)
you can use HTC Battery tool from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10762409&postcount=64
Battery current - is this what I am looking for ?
yes, barrety current ... .
if you can check it, leave phone locked few minutes, unlock it and check values.
...and better when status (current battery) is lower or higher ?
if its not on charge then the lower it is the better, if its on charge youd hope it was increasing the available charge
Hi,
please, do you have any experience or knowledge about problem from first post?
(I checked I have problem with BT HF connection too - in tango. I need pair HF again and again.
If I use Mango, connection with BT HF is very quick and I paired devices one time only)
Thx.
Petr

Your battery drain is very high. Check if you have apps running in the background. Are you using WiFi?
Check its charged, it may report high drain but if the battery is half full but showing its full then it can appear to drain twice as fast, also the backlight is the biggest draw of power which doesn't work right,, im amazed its fallen on deaf ears when brought up

Hi,
I use ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953078
When I use Mango verion (up to 1.26 (build 8107)). Battery life is ok (up to 9mAh).
When I tried to use Tango (2.00b, 2.00b2, 200b3), battery consumption is about 40mAh with the same settings as mango ...
Whant can I set to reduce consumption?
(BT off, Location off, WiFi off, data off or email after 15minutes, 3G off, camera trick used)
Thx,
Petr

I highly recommend you use this ROM instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356833
I experience a much better battery life with 3G and BT on, WiFi and locations off.
Camera trick soesent work, because this rom uses radio 5.71.

Thank you.
(Mango)
BT on settings is perfect (-5mA), until I connect and disconnect to BT HF ...
If I disconnect, battery is -45mA whole time.
If I set BT to off, battery is -5mA again ...
I have bad 3G signal .. so 3G off is better than 3G on FOR ME.
(Tango up to 2.00b3)
Battery was -40mA for all time ...
extended battery 2300mAh
Is there a rom that works on an extended battery 2300mAh ? I apologize for my language
Tango 2.00b5 - drains battery like a HELL, as other roms too... I don't know those guys were talking about when saying up to 4 days bat life on this forum, but no matter what rom I use, it's less than 1 day bat life without calls, wi-fi and data! With wi-fi - less than 1 hour. Why this crap still can't be fixed since first rom was ported?? It's completely no point to use WP7 in this case.
I use last Mango ...
If I don't use phone, few days (3-5) phone "using" is possible
(BT off, wifi off, Location off, data on, 3g off (bad signal for me), email (15minutes), camera trick after reboote )
If I use phone, 1-2 days are without problem ...
I tried to use Pdaimatejam Rom, but I had problem with restarting and phone temperature ...

Same, wifi, bt off, downgraded roms, tried camera tricks, etc. even bought a new battery, still same...
HTC Tool reports anything from -881 to -5
when i used rom from hd2owner battery consumption was large. about -40.
with pdaimatejam rom everything is ok. consumption is about -5.
I have disabled everything for maximum battery life.

[Q] Battery life problem

Hi,
probably someone else have just post this kind of question, but i don't find it , really, sorry
i have just install 2_HD2 Pdaimatejam Rom Wp7.8 OS Is the last version, i think...
the problem is that, the battery life is less then 4 hours . how can i do ? it's normal ?
thanks for replay

I would like to add: after flashing ROM fully discharge your battery and then recharge it. After that go to registry editor on your phone and go to
Code:
[B]HKLM/system/state/batteryux/MainIntervalIndex[/B]
and change the value from 6 (or any value it shows there) to 20...now press OK! You wil see that the battery level on top has been changed!
Now again edit it and go from 20 to 80 and press OK...
RESTART YOUR PHONE AND THEN CHARGE IT!
This helps me a lot. I used my phone about 37 hrs with calls, little use of BT and WiFi.
and then you don't need to do
- when battery drop to 50% (for example), restart phone... battery status be refreshed and show around 20% more battery level.... sometimes i restart 3-4 times phone before need to charge it....

Tested... i try to set 20 or another number , but on restart , i go to see and return always 10...
anyway, with 30 mins call and 30 min of data on , and 20 min wi-fi
arrive to 9 hours... better than 4, not so much..

haha, you are joking right?
where exactly did you look?
how about google 'hd2 windows 7 battery'
there are +3000000 hits and the first page has several links to xda here and also youtube videos to watch
this is a common problem for all these windows 7 roms.
the registry tips posted in below and also try the 'camera trick' which works for me
Planet O
well, the main trick is to discharge to 0 and than re-charge battery. My battery drain today is about 1% per hour. Battery consumption is very individually.
P.S. I installed hardware radio 2.12 and software radio 5.51. This cimbination is much better for me.
Hello,
i don't want to start new thread about my problem, so i pin here.
When i was thinking about to buy HD2 i didn't realize what i am going into, but now i have to continue.
Well everything is fine except damn powerdrain. It is normal to have on high usage 300-500 mA drain? Well i understand this usage when playing for example gta3 on nativeSD android, but seriously...?
Normal work drains my battery on android in 4 hours (NativeSD nexusHD2 - Wifi, exploring web, youtube, facebook etc) with about 150-300mA usage. Well i have to admit that currentwidget cannot show drain properly, but what it shows look really insane.
Also i found on WP7 more outrageous drain. I plugged in charger to HD2 and launched sims3. The battery was at 5%, but gaming made my battery dead. I had to buy external battery charger to apply some power, because battery was too weak to hang in boot time.
My primary questions:
1. Is this high drain normal?
2. Is 80mA charging power normal (using HTC charger)?
3. If i flash android to nand, will power consumpion on high usage be less?
