hi..i m currently using the native camera app to capture videos...video quality is very good...but the audio is crap...i was recording a live concert...not exactly a concert though...live music performance...the video turned out very good but the audio really sucked...
since the phones mic is the only source...i would like to know if there is an app that can record good quality videos with decent sound...?
Or is there anyway i can remove noise from the recordings using a software on the pc...any convertor that will convert the video to a format which will output the audio better.
P.S the audio is real bad...just not acceptable...its very hazzy and full of noise
Note : settings used were...720p..mpeg4 codec.
Please HELP !!
I second the OPs inquiry...
The answer, as always, is CM. Video and audio quality is superior in CM.
2.3 fixes this via a new ACC codec. CM7, which is very much alpha, is the best choice. Whether that's worth flashing just for that fix is up to you.

Don't do this yet, though. The camcorder is still not working on CM7.
i hv no time to flash CM or 2.3 right now...was looking for a quick fix...some app/codec or tweak that will enable me to record better audio...or i don mind if theres a software for the pc which will rectify the recordings later...i need to do 3 hrs of live recording tomm...and sound is very vital !
i too would love better audio

If it is so vital and you don't have time to flash a ROM, then march yourself to Best Buy or your nearest electronics store and buy a camcorder. Relying on a "phone" to record "vital" video and audio is not the way to go.
^^ camcorder is out of budget...already spent a lot on d evo..so need to wait a while to get a good camcorder...
[offtopic]do camcorders record audio better..or do u need to buy some production mic to get better audio on video recordings in scenerios like music concerts..? Are there some ports on the camcorder to feed in the audio thru cables etc ?
yes, the video quality is pretty bad even at the max settings. i've never been happy with it.
if you got it less than a month ago, and the video is THAT important to you, you should return the phone and get an even exchange for the Samsung Epic.
The video recording on the Epic is amazing. Even better than the iPhone 4. My wife has it and i'm totally jealous of her video quality, which rivals our flip camcorder.
Besides that, the Evo is a much better phone in almost every way.
but if you're specifically looking for an amazing camcorder and not much else, go get yourself an Epic.
i got it 2 months back.
i donno but technically evo should record better video and audio as opposed to epic...the fact that evo has 8mp...mpeg4 codecs and features like light correction etc...i know 8mp don matter much but technically more the pixels better is the resolution and naturally better quality....is software the culprit in case of evo or is it that i m missing something abt the hardware of both phones ?

The point that you are missing is you are trying to use a phone as a replacement for a camcorder.

MP means very little outside of how many pixels at maximum the photo can be made of. With EVO vs Epic video recording its a non issue since both record at the same size -720p- and no larger. Outside of MP, the Epic's sensor is just better; it may capture less pixels at its maximum but the pixels that it does capture will be of higher quality. A lot of people have said that the Epic takes better photos than the iPhone 4; and we just had a long thread where it was found out that the reason why the iPhone 4 shoots better than the EVO is because it does indeed have a better sensor. That's likely the same reason why the SGS/Epic are better too.

Exactly.
HTC makes great phones, but are notorious for making horrible camera sensors. This is because, besides from tacking them on to phones, the DON'T MAKE CAMERAS and have no experience in it and little budget to fix it up.
On the other hand, Samsung has been making digital cameras for the last 10 years and are even better known for their cameras than their phones. So, they have more money and research behind this form of technology. So they just slay at making cameras for phones as well.

Has very little to do with what he said. The iPhone and EVO use sensors from the same company. The difference is in product direction. Apple aims for quality, HTC aims for numbers. People expect Apple products to be easy and to work good; most of them don't have a clue what a mega pixel is or does. HTC doesn't have the same product positioning as Apple so they rely on marketing numbers to persuade people (3 more MP then the iPhone 4!!!). At least that's my view.

Afternoon folks.
Been using Insertcoin for a while and just switched to "Runnymede 5.0" as I'd seen someone comment that the Sense 3.0 camera supported panoramic shots, something I've really found myself missing. It seems the camera was switched back further along development so there's still no panorama mode in the standard HTC app. I've looked around for a decent alternative (tried the usual options like Photaf and so forth) to cover this and as yet had no luck finding anything really worth using, I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions as to decent software.

This.
You can even make 360s.
There is a Beta apk floating around of the Sony-Ericsson panorama app. Works ok if you have sufficient light.
PhotoF FTW ! Been using it since few months ago and its awesome
Cheers Wekkel.
As I stated in the OP, I've used Photaf extensively and found it to be particularly useless when it comes to handling changes in light level across the shots - this really doesn't work well when trying to put a decent landscape shot together. It's annoying as once you've ditched the oh so easily scratched plastic lens cover on the Desire the camera is actually pretty good.
Hi tarmacsurfer,
I'm Oren, the developer of Photaf panorama,
the light changes is mainly due to the fact the Android API doesn't provide a way to lock the exposure, on ICS it should be solved.
I will also work on improving the algorithm to perform better color correction.
it is very nice to have this function on desire

Thanks for taking the time to post this, interesting news about ICS offering a solution.
is there any possibilty to tune-up one x's camera application with full functions to our DHD?
such as fast shooting, HDR function, panaroma function, snapshot during video, etc.?
Simple:
Fast shoting not posible. At least not as fast as x one. Because of camera chip. And the extra processor that is dedicated just fot picture taking.
HDR yes. But Don't expect any picture comperable with one x
Take a picture while taking video . Not possible must have at least dual core. Desire HD hardly keeps working with only videotaking at 720p.
The application itself could be ported but requires kernel 3 and special drivers.
SUM:In my opinion not worth a try.

first of all thank you very much for sharing your opinion.
you may be right q&a section could be more proper for this kind of question, however everybody is focused on "expected ics update" very much in there.
I am using several programs for my camera demands, what I'm asking is a combined solution like hox's camera application.
Actually I tried so many roms with sense 3.5 and 3.6 however their camera applications are not flawless.
Some have panorama in the options, however they do not work as intended.
By the way now I am aware that it will not be possible to have that excellent application (with full working functions) on our old friend.
thank you...

First of all, this is not really the correct section for questions but guess this could lead into some interesting general discussion and theorycrafting.
As far as I know, porting the Sense 4.0 camera w/ features is not possible at all without the required driver information from HTC. Also it is certain that our phones' hardware-specs would not be sufficient for a complete user-experience even if there was a port available.
You might want to look into Sense 3.0/3.5 cameras for taking high-quality panoramas. ICS stock-camera is sometimes more user friendly but the quality is mostly a bit lower. Fast Burst Camera does what it says: takes multiple photos per second. This should serve your needs. Camera apps supporting HDR-effects or similar can be found from the Play store.
Taking photos while capturing video is still a bit of a mystery for me but my lucky guess is that the hardware limitations play a big role in this. Why not just take a screenshot from the media player? High Definition video quality (720p) should do just fine, you just need to use a Gingerbread ROM.

I think that we could make a reward for the developers that can make the cm12 camera as good as stock or next to it.
Because the only problem with the cm12 and aosp projects are the bad camera quality. The 720 /120fps videos and the great photos are the best thing on the stock.. But the rest are a bunch of carp.
I could put 50usd on it.
I'm in to donate to that too!
I am in as well, the problem is apparently there are no developers interested on it whatsoever...
hhhmmmmm just give this awesome person the time he needs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/devs-only/camera-hal-caf-t2981136
I will donate as well if someone can port it to AOSP
I'm in for $20.
I wouldn't say developers aren't interested, everyone would love to see the stock camera! But it's really really hard to do that, I looked into it once and LG coded the Camera in C, not in Java. This means the .apk is very small and the biggest part of the application is stored in .so files. Decompiling those takes a whole lot of skill. It MAY be possible, but to be honest I don't think it will happen. I myself by far do not have the skill to do that. It's easier to implement the new Camera HAL v3, like manups4e does.
I think people wants the stock feeling like great pics and a variety of modes on video cam like 120fps 60fps and 4k I don't like the lg stock app I think has a lack of features that could be used by the power of the g3.
I use the xcam app and it's what's keeping me on stock right now.

Change to 4K/2160p in Quality Settings! The only real compression is on youtube's side. And I will say I see a little better quality on my Master File than on youtube.
I decided to test the 4k video recording on the Nexus 6 by shooting my entire vacation with it. I've compiled a recap video showcasing the camera's abilities.
-There conditions recorded in are: high light, low light, sunny, overcast, indoors and outdoors, etc.
-I've zoomed in a few times and moved the phone to force refocus in a few clips.
-There has been NO post editing to the footage such as color correction, cropping, stabilizing, etc.
-Crossfading, fade to black, muting of audio, and title overlays are the only alterations made to compile this video
ENJOY!

No... But 3rd party cameras are not a complete solution. They use the existing libs and camera HAL etc, which is software.
But you can try it, who knows?
i need to look around to see if there are any apps that lock focus.

I started watching the video on my phone, then decided to stream it to my 42 inch flat screen tv to check out the quality on a larger scale, and then realized my 42 inch TV is lower resolution than my phone as a result. lol!
i was recently looking around for other camera apps so as to see how the device's ability to shoot in RAW compares to various cameras. I was considering trying FV5 but was checking out the free alternatives first.
I tried L Camera, which did let me adjust ISO, white balance, and so on, but it had some pretty major issues that need to be worked out still.
While I haven't tried FV5 yet (so I can't say much about that app specifically) I just tried out Open Camera (the above post caused me to remember it showing up in the app store several times while I was browsing) and wowee it's actually really good so far. Only one bug so far that I've encountered and it's very minor. The customization and various settings are really well thought out.
It says it can do 60/120 fps with a disclaimer that it may not always reach the designated fps if the hardware doesn't support it..so maybe?
auto-focus seemed quite a bit faster compared to google's stock camera app and it's much easier to adjust the lighting quickly than any other camera apps I've tried so far.
Right now the only thing I can really find "wrong" with it is the overall design and layout of the app, but it's not poorly designed at all.
I'll be using Open Camera as my default camera app until a major flaw presents itself or google amps up it's own app to compete. Very pleasantly surprised so far.
