I think LESS SAMSUNG may override those low points.
I'd buy it if reselling my GS2 wasn't such a hassle...
I'd buy it if I had the money burning a hole in my pocket.
I come from the Nexus S, so I'm pretty much used to not having the SD card slot. Yeah it sucks, but you get used to it.

I'd say that's the main reason I'd stick with the T989 - it does have the better camera of the two.
I may not use the cam all that much, but when I do I want one that works decently.

My sentiments exactly.
Performance wise the cpu difference in them is minimal at best and somewhat just overkill on the 989d
The camera on the nexus is what originally drove me to the 989 over the nexus, had the phone for about 3-4months now and takin maybe 20pictures, that being saidits nice to have the quality when you need it, expecially those shots with photafin high quality xD
Not having an SD card does suck. I see no real difference in the camera. Battery is about the same. Better with an extended one. Performance wise I see no difference. Rom options are better. I have never seen a rom with so many options as team kangs aokp. Screen is better but not by much. Once you get used to ics it kicks ass. Didn't think it was that special until I really got into it. The sgs2 will get ics at some point so really it all boils down to rom options in my opinion. The nexus will have better dev support. Other than that there is no big difference. Well, the SD card.

Yea it works great on tmo I bought one the last time daily steals were selling them. Phone is great, I am partial to vanilla Android... Everyone will say that it's worse then the t989, but having & using both, it's really not. MP aren't everything, the camera is not bad quality at all. Screen is amazing. I couldn't be happier with it.

Thanks for the response. I am thinking about getting it. I am worried because I use wifi calling at work.
Personally I consider myself a little too invested in the T989 now.
I would have gotten it if I didn't already buy all these accessories for the t989.
I also doubt I could sell this phone for 500 dollars to make up for the price I already paid for it... and jump boat to the Galaxy Nexus.

"...It's An iPhone..."
"...It's Not An iPhone..."
Talk About Being Bias.
And HTC Cameras Are Horrible...Just Because It Has More Megapixels Doesn't Make It Better..
With Pictures I've Seen With The iPhone, The iPhone Is Incredible (No Pun Intended)
The Incredible Can Barely Handle High Capacity SD Cards (16GB, 32GB)
I Know This For A Fact, My 16GB MicroSD Card Is Slow On This Phone,
And When I Pop It Into The Mytouch4G Or Another Newer Phone, It's Blazing Fast, So I Know This Is Not The SDCard's Fault.
Costs More? $199 For A 16GB iPhone And $199 For An 8GB DInc.. I Think The DInc Is More Expensive...
Now I'm Not Saying The iPhone Is A God Send, But Don't Put Android/Incredible On A Pedestal, Because This Phone Is Nothing Compared To A Lot Of Other Phones.
IPhone is the **** if you don't need customization.
Android is the **** if you need customization.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
The DInc was one of the nicest cameras out there... The iPhone4 has that nice HDR effect though. FFC is a nice thing to have as well.
Only thing I think the iPhone4 has as a 1-up on the DInc is the build quality. It feels super sturdy. Granted, it is mostly glass, but it feels damn nice.
*EDIT*
Keep in mind, our phone is nearing the end of it's life as the most powerful phone out there. *sob*
The iphone is nice but for me I would still pick Android. I like the customization, home screen widgets and it runs flash. Flash and the widgets are the big ones.
First things first. Comparing iPhone 4 to Dinc is like comparing apples to oranges. Iphone 4 is apples newest and greatest device. Dinc is not the latest or greatest android device. So it really will come down to personal opinion. IMO I would take the Dinc any day over the iPhone 4 or their next model for that matter.

No, no it's not. Apples to oranges would be comparing the Thunderbolt to the iPhone 4. Both phones are comparable, and of the current VZW offerings, the iPhone is most similar to the INC. Oh, and good for you on your choice.

As far as the camera, cmon man you're really reaching there. I'll give you the fact that 720p recording is lame but the still photos are just as good.

I am anxious to see your comparison of the two phones! I will be watching this thread to see!
The real point here of having both is to evaluate aspects of the phones that go beyond raw stats. You should be thinking on usability tests and such... less so on storage and batteries and cameras. None of that stuff matters as much as the functional ease of the device. Of course it still comes down to opinion and user type to large degree... but I am curious how an inc user will adjust to iPhone. The relevance of the investigation to me depends on how you used your inc... so perhaps best to elaborate on that in comparisons.
Anyway... civility in opinions is always best

I would think no. They are similar but probably use different coding, wait for an atrix 2 forum. I don't understand how they can even call the atrix 2 a successor of the atrix, it has less features! Granted it has a newer SoC and better camera, but less storage, no fingerprint scanner! This phone is of mid range quality for when it was released and should not have been named atrix 2. Maybe atrix S lol.

I actually got one, the build quality feels a bit better and the battery door is leaps and bounds better if you ask me. Has the 8 MP Camera, 1080P inherent video recording. The UI is MUCH better than the Stock Blur UI and you don't have to register out of the box like you do when you have a Blur Rom. Even without a Custom UI and Kernel the phone actually does feel a bit snapper than the original but I am sure others will say the exact opposite considering it is really all based on the user and what they are using the phone for and how many apps are installed etc.

It is perfectly understand able that the ui has improved, it has been a while since the atrix release. My point was I don't think they should have made the atrix 2 yet or call this the atrix 2. They took away a key feature that made this phone unique. The SoC upgrade makes the camera HD possible, that's about all I can see. Probably a good phone but not cutting edge like it was beginning this year.
Idk if they have made a dev forum yet, or which devs have this phone. Give it some time and it will most liked happen.

Also, the screen is much better. It's much nicer at 4.3" (the sweet spot IMHO) and no pentile baloney (according to techworld: link). Just from my subjective experience the screen is much clearer and brighter as well.
Lastly, Best Buy bought back my old atrix for $161, and since I bought my atrix at costco for $20, I got my atrix 2 for -90 dollars.
Hopefully some of the amazing devs get one so we can have some sweet hacking love....
Speaking of which, if I can help any dev by providing some kind of dump or w/e, I'm game, just toss me a PM.
hdmi mirroring enabled
One of the most important thing they did add was hdmi mirroring. So no need to add any hacks or mods to get that enabled and also outputs it with sound.
FYI: atrix 2 doesnt come with hdmi cable.
Motorola used all of the internal space for apps and gave atrix 2 a smaller internal storage. I had to buy a 8gb micro sd card b/c they only provided 2gb card.
Did some benmarks with quadrant the best that i got was 2441 total fps.
Did Linpack benmrk for cpu 64.872 MFLOPS.
Dont like the fact that they didnt do dual band for wireless. (2.4/5ghz). It has autofocus 8MP camera.
Overall not bad for only $49.99 at best buy.
So today I stopped by phones 4 u on the high street and had a look at the Nexus. I love the design but my God it is big. There's a pic attached to show you the size comparison. The screen is so much better than the XL but its a bit disappointing that it still has a 5MP camera when the XL has an 8MP Camera.
I've fallen for it and will hopefully have mine in my hands tomorrow Will submit a system dump asap. But still gotta figure out how to root it :?

Exactly....look at a picture taken with a very old Nikkon D40 and compare it with any size MP point and shoot, it's not even close in quality. This is like everyone complaining about the lack of an exynos processor, doesn't seem to have any lag in any video or review I have seen. Specs are fine to use, just need to keep them in perspective and use them appropriately.

Thank God someone else knows what I'm saying. The lack of understanding is just amazing to me. People should really do research before talking. TI omap 4460 is a 1.5ghz processor that is underclocked for the GN, hence it can be clocked to that for sure and probably up to 1.8 or so. They designed ICS to be optimized for TI Omap processors. Now, I am less impressed with the gpu that comes with it, it is definitely the lowest powered of the top mobile chips. This is a beast of a phone and I hope we see some news on an HSPA version in the US.

LOL. Yeah, it is big. I just visited that site vonapets url'd and compared all my current phones (N1, SGS, Nexus S, Galaxy S II, Thunderbolt, Droid Charge) to the Galaxy Nexus: http://www.phone-size.com/?s=12,13,65,7,85,3 , and it's not much larger, and actually ~25% thinner, than the largest of my phones (the Charge) which fits easily in my slacks and jeans front pockets. Someone wearing painted on jeans might have issues I guess.
The Charge and SGS II are just a little too large for my hands to use comfortably one-handed. My thumb can't reach the bottom left of the phone without putting it in a precarious balanced position. The big 4.3" screens are great, though. I'm afraid the new Nexus might cross that threshold of being to big to be practical for me, but I'll still probably get one. LOL

This attitude. Now that everyone has read a few articles on sensor technology it seems EVERYONE feels the need to school people on cameras.
Yes, it's true, MP doesn't have that much to do with it. But the Galaxy Nexus camera is piss poor. It produces results almost identical to the NS camera, which i feel was essentially the same as the N1 before it. Look how far mobile cameras have come in the HTC titan and the iPhone 4S. For a flagship phone in this price range, this is simply unacceptable. For Samsung, even moreso as the shooter in the GS2 is much better. No wonder people make the 5MP 8MP comparison.
People need to stop being apologetic towards companies, and start calling them out on their mistakes. The processor in the Galaxy Nexus is acceptable, but the GPU is really not up to par with today's superphones. The plastic case construction is an improvement over the fisher-price NS, but still cheap garbage compared to the designs of HTC and Apple, yet they charge the same price.
Enough. Stop trying to school people and school the companies instead. It's the only way we'll get better products.
I, like many of you, was going to stay loyal to the good old Motorola Atrix. Especially since we finally got CM10 that actually worked pretty much flawlessly for most, except the battery life which was completely awful. I haven't seen much going on here, and usually I would care since I love my Atrix and would like to see more going towards the improving of CM10...but how much can we really improve? I'm stuck with the thought that we're lucky and this is as good as we'll get with Atrix. So...the Nexus 4 comes out the 13th and it's only $300. There's a lot of controversy about the no LTE thing, I've never had it so I don't care. The SD card thing is a shame but googles done it since the Nexus S so it was expected. Anyways, I think it's amazing. I've always hated the cheap plastic quality of the Atrix and the horrible adhesive that I blame for the corners of my screen popping up. This has gorilla glass on both sides which I find really cool. It looks like the most solid Android phone out there right now, I don't think any phone meets it's build quality. No removable battery is upsetting, but it's not like they could of done a removable glass back cover. Plus I think it has do do with making the device thinner. Annnyyywayss... I'm getting it. It's the best, most powerful, and its CHEAP. So who else is ditching the Atrix (sad I know) for the Nexus 4?

It's the best, most powerful, and its CHEAP. So who else is ditching the Atrix (sad I know) for the Nexus 4?

I'll probably just wait for the SG4, since I actually have LTE in my area.
Have fun with your N4.
Nope...
Not me...
I'm currently running CM7 and will soon flash to Nottach so I can use it with my lapdock... as soon as my Note II shows up next week! :highfive:
At first I thought cool, but I'd prefer to have LTE on my next phone. The real deal killer for me is no SD card. I've got a 32gb sd card + internal storage in my atrix and I'm running low on space. Being stuck at just 16gb is no go for me.
Not me, I'm loyal to my Atrix. Please go crying somewhere else
I'm still up in the air between the optimus G and the nexus 4. I'm leaning towards the G as it has lte and more space. The fact that it's shipping with a locked bootloader is a bit worrisome, but so did our atrix. It's so close, essentially identical, to the nexus so once it's bootloader is unlocked it should stay up to date.
Maybe getting the nexus 4 but just to play around with still sticking to the atrix though

Wow. That's surprising. I would also love LTE, but I can easily live without it honestly. I have wifi at home and any other building... and on the go I really don't care to have super fast speeds... of course there's a difference in pages loading but it's not significant enough for me to really care. I would like the Note 2 also like many of you... but it's really not the top of the line. It's pretty powerful, just not the best. And I'm tired of hard white cheap plastic. I would of thought so many more of you guys would like the N4... you know you can also wait for the SGS4 but it's going to be the same old plastic device as the previous ones. It's the power and the quality that really made me want the N4. Oh, and it's extremely cheep.
Me. HSPA+ 42 is close enough to LTE in my area for the difference to be negligible. LTE is a huge battery hog anyway. Bring on the Nexus 4!

So, are you saying the LGN4 is the best? The best is what works for 'you'. Smaller screen, non-removable battery, and no expansion for SD card does not equel best in my book.. but that's me .. .oh, and no LTE.. my daughter has the SGSIII, doesn't feel cheap to me...
I'm getting the Note 2 for the larger screen and the S Pen features and the other feature the Nexus line lacks, mentioned above. To me those are important, to you it isn't, personal choice... I've had HTC, LG, Samsung, Moto... I go with the company/phone that has the features I want..
Good luck and have fun with your LGN4!
Am I getting one? Yes. Am I getting one now or any time near launch? No. My contract with AT&T still has some time left, so I dont want to lock myself into a GSM network should a PAYG CDMA option appear that looks really appealing. My Atrix will be sticking with me for at least another 5 months.
I could care less about LTE. My home internet is only 6mbs down, so its not like HSPA is any slower than wifi for me.

...Read some review actually. LG is known to have bad build quality but Google made sure it didn't. And it's said so far that is has the best build quality out of any Android phone right now.

Engadget rated it pretty poor for audio quality. (Max volume)
LG and HTC are 2 phones that I've had major problems in the past with multiple phones of each.
I wouldn't mind giving the N4 a try and sell it if I don't like it, but the lack of External Micro SD was the "Easy" nail in the coffin for me.
Google must think that AT&T just loves to give unlimited data away for free, and WiFi can only do so much, which is why I need my Ext SD...

I am one of those rare idiots who prefer phones with smaller screens and higher resolutions....
and currently i dont see any phones in 4-4.3 inch mark that are worth upgrading.. so ill be sticking to atrix for quite a while looking at current breed of ultra big phones
Not I...I went from Atrix to SGS3

I don't see a huge improvement in the smartphone society so I'll stick with my beloved atrix on mrom until something that blows my mind comes out or until it breaks. BTW my country only supports expensive 3G so I'm not using data.

I'm going to give it a few more weeks for reviews and complaints. I was originally going to get a Galaxy Nexus but aside from no LTE the LG is still a nice phone.

Apparently the battery life is terrible. I remember the atrix would last a good 30 hours with moderate use for me.

I am an avid fan of the Samsung S series of phones. I've had a few and to date think the S3 is the best they've done so far (S4 notwithstanding). But, I love the Google Nexus series of phones and have owned one, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I purchased the Nexus 4 on Saturday from Google and I cannot wait to get it. I love the bareness of the Nexus line. I love Android in its stock form. Thing is, I'm going from one of the best selling phones to a midlevel device. Am I making a mistake doing this? What am I loosing? Currently, we do have LTE in our area but it's sucking the heck out of my battery on the S3 so I'm not concerned if the N4 has no LTE. Am I gaining anything from going to the N4? Is the camera good enough? What about the sound on it - it sucked moose butt on the SGN!
I'm hoping for some comments and opinions that will help me in evaluating this latest purchase and what to expect. Thanks guys:good:
Mid-level? You do realize a quad core chip and 2gb of ram make this a high-level device as for lte I personally don't use it and camera is better then the galaxy nexus but isn't the best obviously for the price speakers do fine as well

Wait until the 15th this month, there is a revised Nexus 4 to be released that should support full LTE, 32 GB of storage and maybe other upgrades. For the current one i`am very happy with it, the camera is a bit less than in the S3, but the cpu and gpu are much better. The screen is fantastic, bright, crisp and a good vieuwing angles. For me it is an upgrade compared to the S3 or even the S4 (wich i`am gona skip for sure). The N4 has no bloatware and great development. And for a very good price.
BTW the N4 is not mid level
Crap...I shoulda waited. I forgot about the LTE version coming out! Oh wells...it's already paid for. Has LG stepped it up on the Nexus line? I've never been a fan of them but in my opinion, Google wouldn't brand their phone if it wasn't any good. As good as the S3 is, it feels slow opening stuff sometimes even with a fresh factory refresh. It's got some good internals so it makes no sense why it does this...this always bugged me. It wasn't a deal breaker as the camera on this phone is sick! Great picture quality on it.

The internal storage of the Galaxy S4 is 16GB and 7GB is for the OS and lots and lots of gimmicks/bloatware/crap. 9GB available for the user We on the N4 have about 13GB left.
I don't think branding the N4 as a mid level device is correct or at least in my opinion. Perhaps it's the price tag that makes it "mid level" or whatever the reason is, the Nexus 4 is more of a high end device for cheap.
I bought a brand new GS3 from a friend a few weeks ago and I don't like it anymore. It was a good idea I didn't get it last year when it came out. I'm gonna sell it...

Yeah, the N4 is a high-end phone for a mid-range price. Absolute bargain.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Its odd the “mid range" stigma that's put on the N4 by average consumer, even here at xda. I've seen hundreds of post from various forums or sites in the comments with people calling it that and ironically they are Galaxy users who usually say things like this poster also did about the UI being sluggish while confidently calling the S a high end device lol. OP glad you got the N4, you'll be more than satisfied I believe, you'll read a bunch of complaints on here, but like absolutely any other phone available if you read enough threads on here people will have funky devices or just nit picky problems. UI is awesome, storage is pretty sufficient, OS barely uses any space, I have probably 1000 pics, 30 albums and maybe 50 apps including CSR Racing which is large and have about 4.5gigs free. Lacking LTE maybe an issue for some, but honestly I think it becomes a feature option issue for most, the inability to claim LTE rights amongst other phone users lol, I'm on T-Mobile and live in Philadelphia, my data is always fast, in most real world scenarios as fast as my boys DNA, and as fast as my brother in laws S3 on AT&T. Camera is another issue for some, not for others, look on the pic from n4 thread, when you work at it, the phone is capable of taking some amazing shots, on the fly pull your phone out and snap can be hit or miss but why some people expect or even need their phone to be art gallery worthy pics I don't know lol. Speaker, is well a speaker, I can hear when I need to, but all this talk of the HTC having "boom" sound and dual speakers for what? If I wanna host a mini rave with my phone? Lol I just don't see the real world use for it. Summing it up, everyone that has touched my N4 since I got it, users of iPhone, S phones and even my cousin who still won't let BlackBerry die has loved this phone after spending as little as 10 minutes with it. Feels great in the hand, UI is always snappy, screen is crisp.

Great replies everyone...thank you. I've read a lot of reviews and such and most of them calls the N4 a midrange phone. In my opinion, they do it based on the price and public (uninformed) preception. I used the same phrase here based on these although loving stock android like I do, I'd be calling it high end. The Camera for me is a nice addition because working as a tech for UPS, I travel around some and get to see the sights along the way. In doing so, it's nice to have a quality camera onhand to take some pictures of where I've been. I don't always take a "camera" as I travel light so having a quality one with me is very handy, which is why I ask what the quality is on the N4. I've read a lot on XDA and seen some pics and it is hit and miss from what I see but a definate upgrage from the SGN.
I've read a lot about the back breaking/cracking. I'm thinking it's a good idea to get a sheild for the back at least. I've never been a fan of putting one on the front as I like the smooth feeling while sliding/swyping.

I'd agree with putting on a back glass protector. If anything the Nexus is a more high-end phone than the S3 tbh, the S4 Pro trumps the Exynos; 2GB RAM > 1, the screen is at a higher resolution and the build feels more premium than the S3. The only reason it's sometimes called a mid range phone is because of the price. There also seems to be a lot of hate for it on the internet though, which is odd because everyone I know who has one likes it. I think that it's only because loads of people wanted one but had huge delays when ordering it.
A case will provide more protection than a back protector.

There`s not much choice in cases for the N4 in the Netherlands and ordered it in the UK. Do you have the XDA case also?

Just because a gs3/4 is over $500 doesn't make it a high end device, calling the nexus 4 a mid range device is ignorance, and yes the nexus 4 beats both

Well either way the S3/S4 are high-end devices. I doubt the Nexus 4 beats the both devices. The S4 has a newer CPU and it's software features are awesome in my opinion.
