It's not possible... and why a folder for only one icon? To access it you have to do one extra click... Am I missing something?
thx for the answer..
well, since i like to categorise apps, i have those "News", "Reference", "Navigation", "Game - Action", "Game - Leisure", etc. folders..
then i have this app which ideally fits to "Game - Strategy" folder, and unfortunately i have only this single app of this type..
so im now left with 2 game folders with many games inside, and a single game icon sitting alongside.. nothing big deal.. but it hurts my universe with this un-equilibrium state..
anyway thx for ur answer..
It seems not possible. If you want to show the app like folder you can change the app's icon and name by pressing on the icon. Then, it will be shown as a folder. Of course, it will start just one click.
Tried it on Nova launcher, didn't work either :-S I also have a case of OCD. I just wish these launchers could have folders in the app drawer, like GO Launcher EX
1. Drag 2 apps together to make folder.
2. Drag second app out from it.
But this doesn't work in all launchers.

Why oh why can't we create new empty ones to use on our own? Also it seems there's no home screen folders in Honeycomb.
If anything, I'd love to be able to change the background on those Acer cubby-hole screens. They are a tad to, um, off... for me.

yeah they don't seem to match any other theming on the device.
I think we need a [DEV] to root around and find out where those wallpapers are so we could try and push our own (overwrite them with our own).
Do folders exist in Honeycomb?
Not that I'm aware of. My wifes Archos 101 w/2.2 does but I guess they removed that for Honeycomb. Vanilla'wise, I mean.
EDIT
I do use Circle Widget, so that sates my need for folders.
do you mean Circle Launcher? https://market.android.com/details?id=de.dbware.circlelauncher&feature=search_result
Yep - sorry my mistake. Circle Launcher. Works well.
What's really annoying is that apps disappear from the folder when you update them.
Has anyone tried Folder Organizer on Honeycomb?
Autoapporganizer
Apps Organzier
Circle Launcher
all so much better than the default Acer ones.
I use folder organizer. It works pretty well, but it shrinks the app icons a little bit. I'd rather they stay full sized. When you update an app, it sometimes disappears from folder organizer and you have to add it again.
Am I missing something or is there no way to create a folder? I wana make a folder to put all my game apps in....on my Droid x I just long press and choose new folder....help plz...

I use the folder organiser app to create folder like the one you mentioned
You can't create folders in with the standard honeycomb launcher, try ADW EX
ES File Manager will do the trick, and a lot more

let me help a bit more here.
For some strange reason, google took out the default folders in honeycomb. So now you have to use a third party application, but don't worry because many of them are actually better, and you can also add a custom icon to your folder.
The three big ones are:
Folder Organizer (paid), allows you to make folders and give custom icons to any app you have installed. Lots of customization but the icons get a little smaller than the phone versions. You can also choose the order of the icons in your folder.
Apps Organizer (free). basically nothing more than putting your apps into folders. Also allows you to customize the icon of the folder. icons are phone size.
Smart Shortcuts (free). allows for apps, contacts, and bookmark folders with customiseable icons. no sorting. icons are phone size. Though the dev has told me personally that he's working on enabling the larger honeycomb icons.
there are others such as ES file manager but these are the 3 big ones. personally i use smart shortcuts on my transformer as well as folder organizer for custom icons (desktop visualizer doesn't work on honeycomb yet.
Thank for all you help guys!

Serious Widgets and Folders for the Serious Android User
Do you have bookmarks, shortcuts, contacts and apps that you use all the time, but they're scattered here, there, and everywhere on your smartphone? How much time do you waste navigating to the things you need? Don't you wish you could just put them all in a folder or two, easily accessible on your home screen?
Application Folder helps make folders accessible from your home screen using instantly recognizable icons. Set up and customize folders, stuff them full of apps, bookmarks, and contacts, and place them as widgets anywhere on your home screen. Now those frequently used apps, bookmarks, and contacts are right there for you to access immediately.
The King of Folders
Let's say you want to be able to e-mail certain contacts quickly. First, access Application Folder through your Widgets menu. Next, create a folder and long-press the standard icon and replace with the e-mail symbol, or any of Application Folder's dozens of attractive icons, such as an airplane, bus, movie reel, pen, paint pallet, etc. Now choose the contacts you want to be in this new folder. Select Menu, then select Apply and exit, and that folder-widget is now on your screen. Tapping on the widget will bring up your chosen contacts that you can now use to e-mail with one tap. You can set these contacts up to be phoned or texted with one tap as well.
We Want Widgets
Create a folder-widget for family e-mails. Create another folder-widget for your favorite games. With Application Folder, there's no more hunting down a function or link through various menu trees. The app, contact, bookmark, or song you want to access immediately is right there on your home screen. You can also customize the size of the widget.
Please note that Application Folder must be launched from the Widgets menu. After you launch the widget, Application Folder scans and organizes your applications, contacts, and bookmarks. Application Folder's main menu is also accessible from any of the widgets you've set up.
Features
Choose custom icons to adorn your folders--anyway you like
Choose from four types of folder shapes and choose opening animations
Organize bookmarks, contacts, and shortcuts, as well as applications, the way you want, sorted the way you like
Are Amazon REALLY encouraging users to allow their devices to install content from unknown sources?
Whilst people here might know good from bad, I find the thought of the unwashed clueless installing any old APK because Amazon showed them how to do it rather worrying.....
As it is, I got as far as them wanting me to install their marketplace, and then I gave up. I couldn't be arsed with some free content just so they can muddy the Android content waters... (You can bet Apple will be using that as the next thing to beat Android up about).

You do realize that any non-Google market place would have to do that, right? But look at it this way...at least you have the choice. If this were Apple you would be screwed.
To be honest it is nice to have the option of a various market place applications (although useless they may be sometimes). Thanks for the post OP, I will be using this.
@MISFITZ / I'm duly impressed. It's like a combination from Folder Organizer and Wizz Bar. I can put this to good use. Ahhh, A new app to tinker with. hehe
Thanks and gave you a thanks too.
EDIT: Is there anyway to adjust the size of the widget icon? I tried tinkering with the margins but that didn't work and next I tried editing the widget by dragging the edit box outward but it did not affect the icon itself. Thais would be a really kewl feature. Can you try and implement that into the next update? Thanks

It was the free app of the day a few days ago when he posted. He probably should have noted it was just that one day in his post to avoid confusion later, but it was true at the time.
Just downloaded like 100 games, is there a way to select all those apps and create a folder?
Also, I have a blank screen that I don't need. Is there a way to remove that? Like I have an extra panel.
Thanks

not unless you're using a custom launcher. i use TSF shell UI, and that has a lasso tool that lets you just highlight up to 20 icons at a time to drag into a folder, or you can double tap as many icons as you'd like to move into a folder.
and if its anything like android for phones, pinch to zoom out of the home screen and it should show you all the screens. just drag the spare panels you dont need to the trash can to the bottom.

I use Folder Organizer by Fabio from the market. Not sure if it works on JB or N7 as I'm still waiting on mine to arrive. It puts all apps in a list and you put them under a label and just go down that list and check them off. You can also use custom folder icons.

That's a standard feature of many 3rd party launchers and ROMS ...
So far I don't really mind the stock launcher, it's alright. I'm a long time user of Nova on my GNex and generally liked the options for folder backgrounds.
The biggest complaint I've got about the launcher so far are the hideous backgrounds and icon ordering. Is anyone working on a mod to change that, or seeing that it is part of the stock launcher, are we pretty much screwed?
Any info on how to change them would be awesome, they are the biggest problem i have with the stock launcher. Thanks!
I'm not sure what you're talking about but if you hit the menu key you should be able to sort them how you want.

I've attached two screenshots. The background is the tan or blue square, and you'll see how stock layers them. Thats what I'm looking for.
Lol.... Stop me if I'm wrong but can you just drag the icons out the folders and drag any icon you want into them?
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
Sure, but that's not the point I'm trying to make. Maybe I'm being unclear.
The UI for a folder in LG's skin is an ugly box, and they just put the icons as little tiny icons. To me it is very ugly. In stock Android they layer them as you can see.
What I'm looking for is a possible mod to change the look of a folder on the homescreen. That is really all.

I totally understand your point and I think so too that's an ugly folder implementation and a shame to an otherwise awesome Launcher, also once you have items in the folders, you can't have them reordered alphabetically. I'm sure there are ways of changing at least the folder design (if rooted of course).
I'll try to find some time to do something about it, but don't hold your breath okay?
Cheers!
As far as someone working on making a better interface, I would think that there is a mod out for that, but I'd have to check on it.
If you want to reorder the icons, open up said hideous folder, click and hold the icon you want to move for around 2 seconds, then move it to your desire location WITHIN the folder. I reorganize my icons all the time.
For me, coming from 3 years of vanilla android, I like some aspects of the LG skin, but there are definitely things a lot of little things that I miss from stock android.
I hope that I answered, at the very least, one of your questions.

Thanks, but I wish there was a better solution. I'd hate to rearrange my huge folders. For small contents it's ok though.

Hideous or not, these are probably the most useful folders I've ever used, to me. Have any of you tried resizing the folder? You can make the folders whatever size you want and scroll through all of the app/shortcut icons. These are the only thing keeping me from using a custom launcher because I haven't found a way to duplicate the scrollable folders.
See pic attached.
I freaking hate these folders on stock, it's a freaking eye sore

I figured out a way to insert the stock AOSP folder PNG's into the LGHome.APK in the necessary spots but the problem is you would also need to build the framework (i think) for the icons in the folders to appear/arrange themselves like AOSP does. Even after i have put in the stock PNG's the launcher just arranged them the same as stock.
So is it possible to replace the 10 available folder icons with 10 other ones of your own? Sure. Get it to be perfectly AOSP, maybe, but going to take more skillz than i have.

I'm with you 100%. This is the one thing that no other launcher I've tried offers (admittedly I haven't tried that many, since I prefer a minimalist approach and most launchers seem overloaded with "features").
The stock LG launcher really feels better than most custom ones to me.
My ideal would be a home page/screen with scrollable folders and a dock that can hold widgets and multiple app drawers. Does anyone know if such a thing exists?
Folder look
I use Nova Launcher. Folder settings to 'custom'. then I choose a image of a folder with a transparent background (alpha channel)
