Just got an email from Google letting me know that Google Wallet Prepaid cards can noe be added again and for the inconvenience, Google has credited 5 dollars to each account! Now there's customer service!
Check it out by updating wallet and adding ur prepaid card.

I wonder what this app has cost Google at $15 a user.....
I get unsupported device when I open wallet app. Running latest CM9 kang on NS4G. I disabled root (new option in CM9), rebooted, and yet still get same unsupported device. Any fix?

it still see's the su binary that's why you get the unsupported banner. Use Supersu app to hide su or just delete the su binary(not recommend at all).

Running the latest Euroskank CM9 kang I was able to install Wallet, activate my account and add and verify the Google prepaid card with no errors. Didn't do anything special and root is enabled for apps, but not system.
EDIT: I now see the banner but as posted below, it's just a warning/disclaimer.

It will still function properly even though your device is "Unsupported". I've used it to purchase several items this week.
The unsupported device warning is just Google's way of saying your on your own if your phone is stolen and someone get access to your Wallet account.
Confirmed

It's $10 per user for the most part. The additional $5 seems to only apply to people who tried to provision a card or reset their data during the down time. At the end of the day they are trying to get businesses to support the app so Google can get a percentage. So a few bucks per user is nothing to Google.

Yes, using SuperSU to hide root works great -- Wallet no longer gives the warning. If you goof up and allow Wallet to detected root, you need to reboot to make it forget. Still no big deal, Wallet works even with the warning.
When I switched to SuperSU, I noticed Wallet started requesting root privs which it wasn't doing with Superuser. I denied it, naturally, but it still detects root and displays the warning. I wonder what commands Wallet was trying to run.

If you want to use tap to pay you will need to sideload the apk. You need 4.4 for this.
You can get that here: http://phandroid.com/2013/11/14/nexus-7-google-wallet-apk
Just go into security and make sure you have the box ticked off that says you can install from unknown sources.
EDIT: I have already purchased items wallet at Duane Reade so it is confirmed to work.

So just to minimize the chances of looking like an idiot...if it's all set up, you just get the total on the little card swiper (with the tap to pay ditty on the top) and just turn the phone on and hold it close...no need to open Wallet?
Thanks,

I don't think it's the card. I've used it to buy from the playstore before. I also put $20 onto Google Wallet to see what would happen. I'm not getting an option in the Tap n Pay section to add Google Wallet. I think thats where the issue is.
I've tried everything else I can think of though so maybe it is my card for some odd reason.

Yeah, of course I wasn't going to accept that
Has anyone figured out a way to opt out of this permanently? I've been getting this popup every couple of days or so and even though it only takes a couple of seconds to decline/swipe away the notification, it's pretty annoying. So far I've disabled the Samsung Link Platform apps, the Push Service, and Samsung updates but the notification still seems to pop up.
I have been denying it too. Afraid of losing possibility of future root

I stopped getting the notifications. Don't know why...
I think you can turn it off under the Security section of the system menus. In there there's a section for security updates and turning off automatic updates.
Not sure if this will remove the notifications or not.
yeah I've been getting it every day or two too, I'm on att tho. can't untick the notification for it, but hey fun fact; if you ever wanted to see what every single permission in your phone was, look no further than this app, cause it wants them all -.-..
I never got the update. Is it possible I clicked on something that auto updates my phone without consent?
No keep getting the damn notice to click here to send security reports.
No matter how many times I click no or anything, it still pops up every day several times.
Screw you suckassrizon
Haven't gotten it. Hopefully never do
Got it but denied of course.
I just keep denying it even as it does not go away.

Hey guys,
Just got my Nexus 6p, love it so far. I'll be jumping in to unlocking the bootloader, and root here shortly when the SDK finishes downloading. I'm looking to unblock the wifi hotspot feature, since my past devices were rooted/rom'd and had this function. Anyone find it yet?
its already unblocked in stock Android 6.0 under settings you go to more and you will see Tethering & Portable Hotspot.

At&t has still found a way to block it.
Got it working through bluetooth tethering.

Look up how to activate it on the nexus 6 from last year. Works the same way

Got mine in yesterday and checked this function out and it started with no problems either. No info or warning pop ups at all on this Verizon phone.
I'm sure people may already know this... but I just found this out. If you have AT&T (or any other carrier blocking tethering on the nexus 6P) and edit the build.prop, tasker would not be able to toggle hotspots.
With Xposed, there's a module "X Tether" or "Moto Tether" that will enable tethering to this phone so that even tasker can toggle hotspots... Confirmed this is working for the 6P. fyi
blocked on Sprint........any Sprint users get around this w/out rooting?
Finally got mine rooted. The native hotspot app is still blocked for me, however, the Wifi Tether Router app does work.
Assuming you have root, you can do the following.
With device connected to computer and USB debugging enabled:
adb shell
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
If you're using systemless root, you don't have to modify your /system at all for this method. I've verified this works for both Sprint and AT&T.
Hey guys. Since this is my first thread, any help/instructions would be welcomed.
While messing around on my Nexus 5x I got a notification from Google Connectivity services telling me if I wanted my phone to auto-connect to open wifi hotspots automatically through a VPN(Virtual Private Network). If you don't know, a VPN sends your data encrypted through a Wi-Fi network. The data is then unencrypted by the VPN server, and is sent to the requested location. This is useful if you want to use an open network but don't want people to be able to spy on your browsing. After exploring a little, I found out how to set this up.
Requirements
A recent Nexus smartphone or tablet running android Nougat
The latest version of google connectivity services
Navigate to Settings>Google>Networking.
Enable wifi Assistant.
It's as simple as that. Whenever you come across an open network, your phone will automatically connect to it through a vpn.
Thanks
I was under the impression they opened up Google Connectivity Services beyond Project Fi users to all Nexus users, so do you really need to download this separately?

As Droid Life said, the feature is coming soon. Until its full release, this is the only way to access this otherwise Fi-only feature. I have no networking feature in my settings, and unless you do, I believe this is the only way to access this feature at the time of this post.

I can't tell you for sure because I have fi and it has always shown up for me, but when I search generic with no account from a PC, it shows up on Google Play store, so I assume it is already there and available.

Your right. I found Google connectivity services under system apps. I believe using activity launcher is still the only way to manually create the VPN. Thanks for letting me know

Has anyone in the UK got this feature yet ? I'm stock rom, unbranded, unlocked phone all updated.
Not on my phone in the UK yet, but the feature is apparently rolling out as a server-side change. Could take up to a few weeks for it to get to everyone.
Running XXXNoLimits, OOS 10.3, Elemental X kernal
Did not update anything this week. Now, under settings-google there is "covid-19 notifications". Had to have been either carrier pushed or a google back door. I don't even have a google account on my phone!
Shows "on/1app" but when I push it the screen just goes dark until I hit back.
Titanium and App ops can't find it.
I keep bluetooth off and only turn location on when I need Magic Earth Maps, then turn it back off, however, the pisses me the f**k off that it has been loaded on my phone.
I have a Samsug Tab running Lineage and it is not there, but the tab is wifi only. Tried Lineage 3 times on my phone and can not get Signal messenger to work and that is a deal breaker for me.
Anyway, how do we get rid it this??
Is this the screen you are referring to, but with different info populating it?

I don't have any Covid apps installed so for me there are no settings to turn on or off; this form of contact tracing is not yet available where I live.
The big question is what app on your phone is being detected as a contact tracing app.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
How do the notifications look like? Regular notifications? Perhaps take a screenshot when you see another one. You should be able to trace which app (or system element) is spewing out these nuisances by long pressing the notification and take more actions by tapping the gear icon top right...
@franken..... I actually don't get to that screen, but that is the right place. Checked a another Android and that is the screen it goes to, mine just goes black.
@timmmmm...haven't gotten any notifications as I don't have any covd apps.
Settings does, however show "on/1 app". I am guessing a glitch since I have leashed google w xxx, Titanium, and App Opps.
I have not done the last system update. Don't have a google account, but do have a google Fi sim card since I live overseas and it works here.
I read google pushed this out as a new setting, for those that download covid apps, blah, blah, blah.......but HOW?
And how do we get rid of it. Article I read on a UK new site said "usage and diagnostics" is where you can turn it off and on, my phone was and is set to off, but I still wanna get rid of it.
That's part of a Google Play Services update, you can't remove it.
If you don't opt-in explicitly, it should not have any effect.
Do you really want to trust that? I personally wouldnt trust anything said or done at this point. For sometime my phone's been acting weird. Note 9 completely stock. But my g7 power rooted since day one with a global variant still runs like a charm. I'd rather just remove it or better yet permanently disabled it through some exploit.

What exactly do you think the phone is doing with that Covid-19 notification setting without an app to drive it? Contact tracer apps need to plug into the local health authority, and only a few places in the US are doing it because people are so suspicious of big tech. I would gladly participate but it's not available in my area.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
The only way to get rid of it is to delete Google Play Services. That's how they snuck it in. On Android Pie it's simple. Just debloat via ADB using pm list packages prompt and voila! it's gone. On Android 10 it works the same EXCEPT none of the google apps, firefox, instacart, or anything like that will WORK. So you can de-google all you want - they've baked it into everything. It's something I'm struggling with now since I was forced to upgrade.
