Title says it all...
Verizon's rates are getting outrageous. I pay $170+ per month for unlimited everything (calling, messaging, and data) and that does not include all the extras like music, tv, and gps like Sprint does. Sprint has much better rates to offer. They can save me over $50 a month, and that certainly adds up.
What's involved in flashing my XV6800 to work on the Sprint network?
(I apologize if this has already been covered, I searched and didn't find it. Point me to the thread if it has been covered)
-Randy
I'll take a guess and say pray to god your esn can be added to sprint. I mean I never tried to do it, but with the esn I'm pretty sure that's important
I've seen similar questions on the boards here and there. Either sprint to verizon or the other way around. I can't remember. I would start by calling sprint and asking them. If they take the esn, then the rest is easy. You can go to the htc website to download the official rom, or if you prefer a customized rom, follow the directions for the rom of your choice.

It is possible but its very rare... it really takes an act of God to get this done. They claim they can't do it but this really can happen.
their policy is not to do it, but if you talk to the right person, and talk to them the right way, it could happen, honestly i wouldnt hold my breath though
i would say your best bet is to try to find someone trying to take their titan the other way (sprint to verizon) and trade
U wouldn't want to take your VZW phone anyways. The sprint mogul is a little better to work on. GPS is unlocked so you can put your favorite program like Google if you like that.
just get sprint to give it to you for free when you sign up for the simply everything plan. i thought best buy was doing that (maybe still are, you should check). but i sell cell phones and you are likely to convince them to give u one for free, if they wouldnt already.
it's very very unliky eventhought it's technically posssible
Sprint keeps a database of all registed ESN that can be activate on their network and ONLY phones with the SPRINT logo (and hybird Nextels) are in that database.
but doesnt hurt to try..u might get lucky
Wait til sprint gets the Touch Pro in a few months
Then you could justify the upgrade cost because of the monthly savings you will get
I agree with you, I have Verizon and its crazy how much they nickel and dime their customers.

They are the same phone if you use a custom ROM like DCD. I am on VZW and have the GPS working just fine. All it would take is to put the Stock Sprint ROM on my phone and then go back to DCD's custom ROM. But as everyone has said Sprint taking the ESN is the deciding factor.
I gotta figure something out. I love Verizon's service, never had any problems, but I can't take the outrageous bills anymore. I'll be happy to shell out my $100 early termination fee and make that up in 2 billing cycles from Sprint.
Anyone have any connections or direct numbers for Sprint tech support where I can look into checking my ESN number?
The reason I ask is because I went to both verizon and sprint and i asked:
--at verizon--
Me: If I buy an Evo from sprint, full price and bring it here to run on your network will it work? being that both of you run CDMA I dont see it being a problem? am I wrong?
Verizon: No, it will not work. You should get our "incredible."
--at sprint--
Me: If I buy an "incredible" from Verizon, full price and bring it here to run on your network will it work? being that both of you run CDMA I dont see it being a problem? am I wrong?
Sprint: No, it will not work.
So I asked them both why not...?
Verizon: different hardware. And settings.
Sprint: Legality.
(they also said they have not had their training yet at that location for the evo... and they are only a few weeks away of a release. )
Can someone explain whats going on here? They made me doubt my understanding as to how cdma worked. It is to my understanding it should work on both networks. Question is, getting verizon to accept me as a customer with the evo. Someone correct me if im wrong.
Im set on the Evo, but I dont want Sprint. I want verizon. Not planning on getting the "incredible." For that I stick with the iphone 4g and att.
There are ways to do it, but they are quite illegal (as in rape you in the ass prison felony). Look it up online, but don't expect to find that info here.

Any chance for a little more clarification? A keyword at least to find my answer. I just want to know actually why they would reject a potential customer. I'm a little tired of smoke and mirrors.
I wouldn't want to do anything illegal like cloning. I just want facts. No big deal.
tried it twice...no go
only way would be to hack the phone and change a whole lotta stuff...then change the esn to another verizon phone you own (which is illegal, i believe). then it is possible. however, i have two phones (one alltel, one sprint) and have requested verizon to add my esn's to their database (after i changed the 'whole lotta stuff' myself) ...eventhough the phones work on verizon, i could never get them to add them to their database enabling me to legally use the phone on their network. i griped and griped, they 'caved' in on more than one occasion, and said it would be done, but never did it. 15-20 total calls? and still nothing. i can't wait to tell them i am leaving...and for that reason i am not on contract. they tried to tell me numerous times it "wouldn't work, different hardware" but i have even tested it and made calls successfully, so it all seems to be a game. the one department that was designed to allow this, apparently closed. bottom line, don't waste your time. by the time someone posts instructions on how to do it, their will be 2-3 verizon phones more powerful -it is still a long way off.
It's ESN switching. Sprint and Verzion never put each others ESNs on to the other's network. I don't think even Jesus could manage that feat.

Thank you! thats the answer I was looking for. Much grateful!
What about the users that pay full price? Why would they do that if they cant take it elsewhere? Does it mean Even if they pay full price, the ESN belongs to sprint? It sounds wrong to do that. Im not complaining. Im just trying to make sense of this.

Welcome to the world. Don't let the door kick you in the ass on the way out.
theres a form you can fill out to take a cdma phone from another carrier and activate it on verizon, you need to ship your phone to vzw HQ though, and they say it can take 3 weeks to determine if they will allow it on the network or not.
its an official verizon form just gotta find it.

I'll check with the verizon rep. She was really friendly and what ever she didnt know she dug for papers. Maybe we can work something out.
I'll keep everyone posted if something results.
Thanks for the information!
will not work on verizon, they have a policy of not taking sprint branded phones, the esn's are registered to sprint and they know it's an evo.
sprint doesn't take anything other than what they've registered... it's a sticky thicket I know.
esn cloneing would work, but we don't talk about that kinda stuff here apparently, gotten scolded on more than one occasion for doing so =P
So someone pulled an "Iphone4 leak" on me and stole my phone off the bar last night. I went through Asurion and spent the billion dollar deductible where they give you the option to shut the old phone off right then and there.
I started thinking about this and yes it sounds good for you to screw the person that screwed you BUT any carrier could take advantage of this. They could let the thief activate their own line on it then they just got another subscriber. As a company it would make sense to me.
I dunno this is just my theory.
They shut it off because yours is shipped activated

I'd love to see the tech that they use to 'brick' them, espec with a custom rom on it
What they were likely talking about is deactivating the phone and blacklisting the ISN
Both are correct.
The activation thing is an option when you file your claim.
Im saying do you really think it gets blacklisted?
It still can be taking to a Arab hood cell phone store and flashed to cricket

So I'm guessing you didn't have any type of security app on the phone (ex:Lookout)?
With Lookout you can use the locator on the phone and/or have the phone "scream" (blast a loud siren) regardless of the volume setting, you can also wipe the phone remotely.
i do/did install lookout and wiped it.
Sucks that i lost my class 10 memory card too.
probely blacklist but i would like to see what they have up there sleve
I don't think Sprint will brick the phone... what they will do is ban the esn from being used on the Sprint network..... but that doesn't mean that its banned from being used on metro pcs, Verizon.... or other cdma networks.

Correct, the phone is not bricked just blacklisted. You can still connect through wifi and use all the phone's services.

Question for htc evo owners with boost mobile here. How is it, are there any problems? Someone is selling a htc evo boost ready for 450 would that be a good deal. Thanks.
Well I believe that cricket's 55 android plan is the best out there . I paid only 270 form my evo and i flashed it for free. All the tools and know how is free and available on line. I would never spen 450 on phone.
I live in NY I don't think there is cricket here i also heard its hard getting your evo to boost so buying it boost ready would be the easy way.
i would find one with a bad esn for 200-250 and figure out how to flash it yourself.
So can you hook a brother up with instructions to flash an evo to boost?

I do not believe it needs a "Flashing"
What it needs is an ESN change. You need to change the ESN to one that Boost will accept. Boost will not accept an EVO ID. You also will probably need a donor phone to get an ESN off of to be rather more legal.
The process for changing an android IMEI is not difficult, as I understand it.
Here is a question, do you have boost now?
when it is flashed to another carrier like that...
1. it is stolen
2. it is lost
3. sprint will not support it.
once you get it... there is NO warranty!
so.. I would never pay that much for it.
push it down to $250 or under!
you can do the flashing to other carriers yourself.
or
find a shop that is a boost/cricket/(what ever carrier).. they will do it for free.. because they want your business!!!
good luck.

you can sell it for more .. when advertised with sprint.

ok.. sure..
if the phone ... is a good ESN.. not stolen.. or found EVO.
why not sell it for more as a Sprint ready phone???
EVO's on other carriers .. listed on craigslist .. go for half of what they are on sprint.
if i wanted to sell my EVO. that I purchased from sprint.. and have the reciept. I can get $350 or more... why would I want to sell it for $200 or less?
if Sprint marks the ESN on that phone as a stolen / lost device. I dont think HTC will fix it and then send it back to you. They might even keep the phone for refurbished inventory. This I am not sure of... but I would think it a long shot! Manufactures love any excuse to not provide warranty!
anybody got a guide to how to put an evo on boost? i got a guy that may want my evo next month but he wants it on boost.

Hi guys, I have my evo on Boostmobile. I got the evo from a friend, he sold it to me for 300 brand new never used before. and since I didnt know how to flash it or change the esn I had to pay 60 bucks in a store to get it connect it on boost.

So if something is cheaper it is stolen? So whenever the grocery store has a sale, they just got a shipment of stolen food?

Lets just assume that is true. (I don't think it is.)
1) no 4g, so slower data.
2) bad ESN. Someone cannot keep up the payments and has to sell the phone to pay bills.

ESN issues: (billing issues... sure.. does sound better than stolen; do you think anyone will say it was stolen???) but here are examples. I bet you these sellers, are willing to deal.. drop the price to $150 -$175.
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mob/2175763022.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mob/2175899036.html
on the htc fixing "bad ESN" phones... like I said.. I just dont know.. never tried. But I would not bet $200 on it.
This is entirely OFF TOPIC
Your trying to prove a prejudice.
I already said that The ESN's are bad so you cannot get 4g. big discount in a 4g area.
It is just as reasonable that people in economic hardship are looking to sell things cheaper and faster. They are in a weaker position.
Selling a stolen phone on craigslist is asking to get busted.

flashing evo to boost
does anyone know how to flash an evo to boost? i would really apreciated if anyone can guide me or teach me how to do this. please, please!
So, my daughter sent her phone swimming...I was going to let her use the Evo. I went online a could times wondering if I was just drunk or screwing up somehow...I'm not.
Every time I try to ESN swap to the EVO ("HTC wimax bar phone") I get shut down by a plan limitation and it tries to put that line on an indivudual plan.
Has anyone else seen this? I have been busy and not following Sprint news...
I had this trouble when activating online. As far as I know it has to be done over the phone.

Never had online swap issues before.
But, I was coming back to say I had it done over chat. Now I just have to figure out why my data doesn't work yet. Had to flash off MIUI to get the programming menus...I'm sure it's something I can find here on the data.
All good now.
