new prl today - EVO Shift 4G General

60686. That is all

Thanks using it now. I almost always use wifi since I have wifi where I work so I probably won't notice it much. But I'll test out 3G on my way to work. Can't really test 4G since I don't have it in the town I live in but the town I work in has it so maybe I'll get to test it out some.

Thanks. Looks like it only affects a town in Texas, West Virginia and North Dakota.

Yep, I never notice much difference on the PRL updates. Thanks for the link! Gives so much more insight on to these updates.

Don't know what a PRL is? I found this using Google search.

3G Speeds in Indianapolis

Anyone live in Indianapolis or the surrounding areas? Since I switched to Sprint this month my 3G hasn't been faster than 600kpbs (on an extremely lucky day). It is more common to be between 100-300 kbps and I think that is a ripoff with an Everything Data Plan.
Anyone share my experience or have better numbers to provide?
Wish I knew out to check it, but dont know how. Im an android newbie. I can say this, every since switching to Sprint from both Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, I have actually received better 3g signals and coverage at the workplace. If you show me how to check I will check.
I am receiving better 3g than before.
That seems about right to me... I actually am lucky to get that high on a speed test... Seems fairly fast when surfing or downloading from the market though. I agree that it seems a bit low.

after switching from T-Mobile.
Finally got the test and ran it my speeds are: down 1.12 and up is 0.71. Dont know if this is good or bad.

That is normal in alot of area's, I know I get between 600-1.7 down and always around 700 up.

I would kill for those speeds? Where are you at Dukins if you don't mind me asking? I live in Carmel and work over by the Pyramids so I'm mostly always on the North side.
I am lucky to ever be able to get 600kbps, I'm more likely to have 300kbps down or even 130ish. I have no clue why my 3g is so slow.
Edit: I just ran a test and got 95kbps downstream and 734kbps upstream.......
dukins: can you go to your dialer and type ##33284# then click 1X Engineering and tell me what number is listed for SID? It is most likely 4135

Yep SID is 4135. What is this information used for?

SID is the ID of the tower you are connecting to.
I work in Indy and have been trying to figure out what is going too. I was wondering if it was my custom ROM or because I updated my radio? Or if it was just the EVO itself.
The speed I'm getting is killing me right now! I know my speeds aren't as slow outside of Indy where I live.
Kind of annoyed that I'm paying extra and my download speeds are slower on my EVO than they were on my Hero.
Was wishing to have 4G....but hell I'd be happy with a decent 3G at this point!!!
I get crap speeds anywhere in Carmel/Westfield; bad Sprint towers in northern Indianapolis.
I talked to a Sprint Tech Support Rep who gave my phone a "network refresh". Sounded like bullsh*t, but afterwards I've been getting great speeds where I have a good signal. I've been getting up to 1.4mbps in downtown Carmel and in Broadripple.
Also she said we are getting 2 new towers on the north side of Indy, one off Hazel Dell Pkwy in August, and another in Westfield in December.
Well, I was a couple of miles from downtown this morning sitting at standstill in pouring rain and traffic. Did a speedtest and got around 1.5 MBPS down! I was happy with that.
However, when I was back at work...it was under 400k. Guess maybe it could be my office building?

I get similar speeds around my office (and nearby restaurants). I work up by the pyramids on the NW side of Indy.
I'm getting 1.4mbps down and 321kbps up on the north west side right now. I tested last night around the kessler/meridian area and got ~600kbps both ways.
What did you do for a network refresh?

lol, we don't even get acceptable 3G in northern indy. According to a poster here (via Sprint), we will be getting a tower in Carmel, one in Westfield later this year.
When I bought mine the lady said she didn't expect 4g until probably next summer for us but that was just her guess. My 3g sucks as well down here around the beech grove/greenwood area.
I can second the 3G sucking in northern indianapolis...very very slow

The people at Sero told me 4th quarter 2010. This was just before the Evo was released.
I was getting around 250 - 600 kbps on the old radio.
I just updated the radio to the latest and now im getting around 700 - 2300 kbps in castleton area.
Its not super but its better then when I just bought the phone.

That was me that posted that. The sprint rep I talked to said one tower at the end of august (carmel) and one in december (westfield). I will say that I am buying a house in Broadripple and I get great speeds theres, anywhere from 1.1 mbps to 1.5 mbps
Indy isn't listed anywhere on Sprint's 2010 projected WiMax expansion, I would estimate Q2 2011 at the earliest. I just moved from Indy (BRip) to Denver (NW) and my areas are comparable for 3G speeds (1-1.75MB)
4g Indianapolis
Ok this is what I have heard and if anyone knows differently please do tell. Last month I talked to sprint when I was changing my plan and I asked about 4g. The rep told me that they were currently working on 4g in Indy and that it should be up and running by the end of 2010. she said that they would push notifications to customers when it went live. So I thought this was just hot air and I asked an IT guy at work if he knew anything because my company relies heavily on sprint. he said that the airport was to have 4g working by the end of Oct. A coworker with an Evo was in a sprint store several days ago and he said there were out of state technicians there working and when he struck up a conversation they told him they were working on the 4g connections by the airport, downtown Indy, Carmel and Fishers area which coincides with new tower locations on sprints website map for new towers in Indy. Has anyone heard anything? I mean it would only make since since all the big shing dings that come here.
I was just in the airport last week and didn't get 4g at all.
i get 1.3 Mb/600Kb in delphi indiana and surrounding areas, but the closer i get to a bigger city such as lafayette/west lafayette that speed is 1/3 to 1/2 of what i get in delphi.
i always thought this was strange.

Yea I noticed that depending on my location in the city it will go anywhere from 700kb to 1.3.
I work right next to the airport and I can vouch that there is no 4g yet. I scan for a signal just about everyday. Maybe some day.

Maybe they will just drop it all on us at once. I saw an app once and I cant remember the name but it runs in the background and it periodically checks for 4g, 3g and wifi hotspots. It will then show you on a layered map what signals are where but its dependent on people letting it run on their phones. Does anyone know the name for this?

Would that be Sensorly Map Viewer?
You'll see 4g signals in testing for quite awhile before it is officially announced. This has been consistent for all market launches thus far...

Yes thats the app. I went to their website and you can see where its at in other places....Its crazy..Indiana looks so barren
My area was barren too, so I've been collecting/uploading data for a couple weeks now.
It's really cool to see your data processed and on the map very quickly.
The app is a huge battery hog...
Swyped from my Fresh EVO via XDA App
I lived there a couple years.
Trust me, it is called "Naptown", there won't be 4g until every other city gets it.
Ok so did anyone have trouble last week with texting or any data services? Did you contact sprint to find out why? Word from Sprint is that it was part of 4g implementation.....should be up and running within the next moth.

4G in Socal!

Ok, Socal is huge. We know it has been located in Costa Mesa, OC, & Westwood.
It's now in the SFV, Canoga Park.
Sprint's site indicates a 'future tower' around Chatsworth by the 118, maybe it's active now.
first of all the image i get is a speedtest app screen capture.,
second of all, scrpints coverage map shows "furure sprint 3g network tower" so im not sure where you are getting a 4g tower from.
waterboy, it's true...I get 4g in Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, West Covina and Pomona......
They are definitely testing out 4G in the area. I've had signal in Irvine close to John Wayne Airport, in Anaheim near the 91 between 57 and 55 freeways, and in Los Angeles near the federal building. So yea, its coming.
i hit enter too soon.
i know that there is 4g up in other places i have gotten it in Burbank and around Staples center downtown.
I was in Chatsworth yesterday and there was no 4g yet.
also, is it safe to assume that any future tower is 4g compatible? or was OP looking at a different map.
I'm no expert with cell towers, but I made an assumption that they are probably backwards compatible. The 3G coverage in that area is sufficient to say the least, so another inclination to question them putting in another 3G tower and not 4G.
The screen cap shows the 4G signal and a speedtest show bandwidth speeds. Was that so confusing?
got some in santa ana!!

Ah, ya I was a little confused by that routing as well. Picked TX for some reason im unsure of.
I think Sprint is rolling them out in SoCal for sure... it used to be I can only get spotty coverage in downtown, now it's improved and in San Gabriel Valley area, they rolled them out as well. The furtherest WiMax coverage around SGV I noticed is as far as 19/Valley.
However I just don't see any signal on Huntington...

You can check the sprint site for the coverage map. I get about 6.5-7 down and 1 up at my work. But i've also been getting 4g since the release of the EVO. It just went official last week but there was a few towers in Providence that have had it for a while.

Seems, even by what is stated in the Orlando Sentinel article, that the network was put into place just to "fill gaps" in the coverage as it was pretty pathetic before. I was just there on April 1st, and I wasn't seeing any difference there than I do at my house over closer to downtown. However, it is nice that they decided to build it out to support the capability...when our phones can actually use it is another story altogether.
I've got an Atrix and I get around 3Mbs down and around 300k up both at home and at the airport.
From what I've read, it seems that a phone update will be required to turn it on anyway...but if ATT can be believed, we might get to see it this month sometime.

That unfortunately doesn't exist. We can only hope to get it soon. I had one of the att reps back in december tell me that my signal had gone from good to absolute crap because orlando was a test market for 4G so one can only hope that a simple flip of the imaginary switch will give us 4G aka 3G+

There's signal issues at disney I think there might be some issue with att putting up towers on property. Similar to how the airport used to be but att pays MCO a decent amount to have put up the towers up

I don't know about you, but is anyone else a little surprised by how many Central Floridians there are posting in this thread? That means.... using an Atrix and knowing a thing or two about making it better! Pretty cool, I guess none of you "feel safe enough" or "like Orlando" enough to list your location on the profile to display with each post though! haha
I have orlando listed in my info, have since day one of joining this sight.....
And in regards to a 4G coverage map they dont realy exist.... I work for AT&T and do customer service in the call center by UCF and there is no info in regards to when the update will be released for the Atrix/Inspire .... Or what the coverage looks like
All I know when I check are network coverage tool and look at the towers in the downtown orlando area none of time are listed as HSPA..... They are all still reporting UMTS only, and there is no info about the backhaul or updates to the towers that I have checked...
Sitting in MCO as I post this. Have worked here for the last 4 years and will say that they have made vast improvements on the tower infrastructure here. Used to be that you would get no reception out at the 1-60 gates end of the airport. That's all fixed. Of course still getting the typical 3mbs down .3 up here so will see when ATT lets the update go. I sure it is a simple update that won't require me to go though what I did with the last. Not that the last was hard, just a pain....
