everytime i flash a rom, it gets stuck at the bootanimation or the setup wizard any suggestions? i used to flash roms before but it started happening recently and i cant pinpoint why it freezes
My friend had that issue too. It turned out he wasn't wiping /system before he flashed. Too much crap built up in there from too many ROMs.

I use 4ext app and do a ext 4 wipe and it seems to work okay for me. sometimes ill manually wipe all partitions but usually dont need to.
Yeah I tried wiping everything
I did factory and cache
Then dalvik
Then under mounts and storage I format system, data, and cache
Maybe I'll try 4 ext
Look at the logcat.
If you have clockworkmod lower than v3, and you flash a gingerbread rom, it naturally get s stucked by bootanimation. But if you have the latest one of the recovery, which supports ext4, and it stuck at the bootanimation (not the white splash screen), then you must wait until the drivers are initialized.

My cwm is the latest one I believe (5.0.2.0 or something like that)
I tried loading zipnets ice rom and it hangs at the clock animation
I tried the new sense 3.6 rom. (Forgot name) and sometimes it freezes at the bootamimation, setup, or at the home screen
What do you mean wait for drivers to install?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA
The first start after a rom install is always the longest one. That is usual. Try to wait about three - five mins and then it is done. After that you can use it.

Also after it boots, give it a few minutes to settle in and turn on mobile netowork ect.

How long should I wait? Last time I waited 20 mins and it was still frozen
edit: ok i tried 4ext and used the format everything except sd card and still get a frozen boot animation any other suggestions?
Did you follow Jack_R1's suggestion and run logcat?
so after hours of tinkering around these boards and through everyone's help, i found out i have the bad emmc which is what im assuming the problem is but why was i able to flash roms before? or was it just luck?

So my Hero appears to be done for...
I was doing a Nanoid restore last night and after rebooting my phone wouldnt come back up. It got past the inital "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" screen and then it goes to the black HTC screen. You can see the HTC logo flashing for a few minutes and then it stops flashing and the phone does nothing from there.
I've tried wiping the handheld, wiping the dalvik-cache and wiping everything else possible from recovery and nothing.
Anybody have any suggestions before I get my phone replaced??
I was thinking of possibly putting an older Nand backup file on my memory card and attempting flashing that....or attempting flashing a ROM again. I dont know...anything that may fix this would be appreciated.
Is it hanging on the HTC screen? Or does it go black completely and shuts down?

Hanging on the HTC screen.
nandroid in no way affects recovery, try booting into recovery and retry nandroid, or you can try flashing a new rom after a data wipe
Were you using A2SD? I had this problem earlier, I had to swap my SD cards out and reload the rom from a different card then put the old one back in.
sheesh that sucks, i would make up something and take it to sprint and let them give you a refurb
The phones not bricked if it still turns on.. Its probably a very simple fix. Like some have said. Try to format your sdcard, wipe everything data, dalvik, ext. Then flash a different nandroid backup or rom then the one you were using and then reboot.

agreed. i've RUU'd for less frustrating situations that that!
did you wipe both options ?
this has happened to me before
what i did was wiped everything and flashed the rom i wanted and it was fine after that
if you can see the HTC screen then you are not bricked if all else fails then the RUU should get it booting again.
Hi guys,
I've tried using unrevoked 3.3 on my wildfire, with android 2.1, didn't work - so I tried 3.2 and I got the ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1 on there, I can boot into that now,
But still not knowing how to root it,
Can someone give me some advice from here, I get the "Internal error" message and can't go any further, but I assume you can manually do it, since I've got the clockworkmod recovery on there,
Toby =)

if you have clockworkmod recovery then that means you rooted it, just put a custom rom onto your sd card, boot into recovery and install zip from sd card. do a nandroid backup of your rom first.
When I try using Titanium Backup, I get a failed message...

Okay, I installed busy box and it says it rooted, does the clockworkmod matter what version you have?

Nope, you should be fine.
Thank you, I'll let you know how it goes, is Wildpuzzle rom trustworthy? It's been around for awhile right? =)
Yeah wildpuzzle is good, I used to use it.
I had abit of a freak out, I wiped my phone then couldn't load any custom rom =( But now its loading, hoping it works...
I don't know if the rom is loading or not, the screen with the android symbol coming out of the box showed up now and white backgroud with the "HTC quietly brilliant" animation seems to be sitting there forever,
I installed the SUnAaBh v1.1** rom from sc card,
Does this seem right?
First boot takes 10 to 15 min.
You should have done a nandroid backup of your stock rom first, oh well.
If it doesn't boot, do a full wipe, wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache in recovery and flash again.
After like 2 or 3 minutes, the screen goes black then the HTC logo screen comes back on and loads again, makes me think its in a loop and no installed right =\
Do a full wipe and try flash again. If it doesn't work, try a different rom.
Yeah, I did a back up with nandroid then moved the files to my computer incase, they was in a folder called orangeworkmod folder?,
Wipe cache?

Yes, you should wipe data and cache before installing a new rom. They are all there in recovery.
Okay, yeah - its all good, was just taking time, does wildpuzzle rom have overclocking feature, or is that a application?
I can't reply to the NFX thread due to my post count, so here goes...
It's ashame that the NFX-HERO mod isn't maintained anymore. I haven't found any 2.x mods that I like, so I'm STILL sitting on Fresh Rom based off of 1.5.. I flashed my phone to the NFX-HERO ROM, and sometimes it boots up, and sometimes it doesn't.. When it doesn't boot, it'll just sit on the white HTC screen, or if it gets past that screen, it'll just sit on the NFX-HERO boot image, then just get stuck in a loop after 5 minutes. Removing the battery, rebooting the phone again, will sometimes get it online. Anyone have any idea what could be happening here? I didn't see anyone with the same issue, so it's likely phone related.
Did you do a full wipe first?

I never could get most of his roms loaded but the older one finally booted for me to do a prl/profile update a while back. He has like a few different roms out just try a older or newer one and you should fine one that will boot for you. Also like the prior post I recommend a full wipe data, cache, dev cache and sd/ext good luck

Try his latest updated rom and make sure to flash the kernel to go with. And of course wipe, wipe, wipe.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
If you don't wipe SD-ext and you have data on there you can get boot loops. That is if you have it partitioned. Another issue could be the kernel has the CPU overclocked to high. Not sure if his were or not, but maybe flash a different kernel.

Still working on it. Making this a multi phone project has been a nightmare. Finally got something working, but there's a lot of code to be written. A form of data2ext will be included as a user variable. I would release one that works for our phone, but I want everyone using the same one so I don't get confused.

So far, I've done a system wipe, wiped dalvik, wiped cache, wiped SD.. Installed one of the two kernels, and it still hangs at the white HTC screen on 3 times out of 10, and won't get past the NFX Hero boot screen 5 out of those 10 times, and maybe it boots 2 times. I like the squared bottom of the dialer, same as w/ Fresh. I wish I could get to liking aosp, but just can't.

If you're using amon ra based recovery, try clockwork recovery (from rom manager app). Wipe sytem, data, cache. Go into mounts, format boot, system, data, cache. Go into advanced, wipe dalvik. For fun, repeat. Try decad3nce #43 capped at 691 (flash AFTER the ROM), see if she boots.

I just flashed CM7 supersonic after wiping everything as usual. However, once it began booting up it seems to have gotten stuck on the Cyanogenmod7 initial loading screen with the circular arrow that loops around the android on a skateboard. It has been doing this for an hour now. I just took the battery out and turned it back on and it is simply doing the same thing now. Any suggestions?
Wipe and reflash or restore a nandroid. Use caulkins format all zip.

several people have reported when using clockwork recovery that it does fully delete cache data. most instructions I read suggesting deleting the cache twice.

+1 I had a lot of issues with clockwork not wiping right and stupid problems because of it. The format all zip has saved me from ripping all my hair out lots of times so far.
It is here. It is at the bottom of the first post. And even though it says for 2.1/2.2 it will still work, formating at the recovery screen has nothing to do with your android version

When you have been stuck here try holding down the power button. Usually I get the power down menu and just hit back and I'm good to go.

I had this same thing happen several times I just kept doing battery pulls and restarting the process eventually it worked. That being said, I've moved on to the new Fresh 4 Beta with Gingerbread now and I couldn't be happier. The CM guys do great work considering what they have for resources, but the HTC guys make better roms from a hardware standpoint, so a Sense Rom to me is just vastly superior. Not that I actually run the sense launcher.
i installed cm7 and it stucked on the boot screen for 20 minutes so i shut down the phone and tried to install miui, but it still stucks on the boot.
i tried to install cm7 again and it said strange stuffs and installation aborted
and i can charge my phone. the battery animation is stuck too.
what should i do?
Flash a stock ROM with ODIN.

Anyways, if you still want CM7; wipe all data/factory reset and don't flash CM7 once, but twice
Always works for me. If not, boot it up (even if its stuck at the loading screen) and then turn it off and flash CM7 again without wiping.
