Ok...so she may be bricked... - Hero CDMA General

So my Hero appears to be done for...
I was doing a Nanoid restore last night and after rebooting my phone wouldnt come back up. It got past the inital "HTC: Quietly Brilliant" screen and then it goes to the black HTC screen. You can see the HTC logo flashing for a few minutes and then it stops flashing and the phone does nothing from there.
I've tried wiping the handheld, wiping the dalvik-cache and wiping everything else possible from recovery and nothing.
Anybody have any suggestions before I get my phone replaced??
I was thinking of possibly putting an older Nand backup file on my memory card and attempting flashing that....or attempting flashing a ROM again. I dont know...anything that may fix this would be appreciated.

Is it hanging on the HTC screen? Or does it go black completely and shuts down?

Hanging on the HTC screen.

nandroid in no way affects recovery, try booting into recovery and retry nandroid, or you can try flashing a new rom after a data wipe

Were you using A2SD? I had this problem earlier, I had to swap my SD cards out and reload the rom from a different card then put the old one back in.

sheesh that sucks, i would make up something and take it to sprint and let them give you a refurb

The phones not bricked if it still turns on.. Its probably a very simple fix. Like some have said. Try to format your sdcard, wipe everything data, dalvik, ext. Then flash a different nandroid backup or rom then the one you were using and then reboot.

agreed. i've RUU'd for less frustrating situations that that!

did you wipe both options ?

this has happened to me before
what i did was wiped everything and flashed the rom i wanted and it was fine after that

if you can see the HTC screen then you are not bricked if all else fails then the RUU should get it booting again.

Boot infinite loop

I tried to install expresso on DC 2.07 and the zip file flashed, then when I rebooted it just keeps looping without getting to the OS. I suppose I screwed something up, so I was going to nandroid back, but now the phone won't let me get back into the recovery console. Anybody have any tips on how to get the recovery console back up?

You pulled the battery and put it back in, then held just the home button and the power key?
if the above doesnt do it
Pull the battery put it back in power on hold down home and back. clear the data.
I am currently running the newest version of DC, hours after the update I look down the phone is continuously restarting never making it past the sprint screen.
I go into recovery it says it cant mount to the SD card. so as of right now my phone is dead in the water.
I purchased a new SD card and im loading DC onto it to do a flash. Ill let you know If I get the same thing, mine didnt do it right away but it was fine before the update this morning... oh and Damage whats up with no Wireless Tether??
Mine is doing the infinite loop also. I had everything working and did a nandroid backup. After I rebooted, it started to loop, the nandroid loops also, I wiped the ext on sd, and still get the loop.

So you guys can get into Nandoird, you wipe data, dalvik and ext partition, reinstalled ROM and you still get a boot loop?
Yes exactly..
I ruled my phone bricked earlier for no reason at all. phone was fine, i did the update to 2.7.2 and hour or two later it keeps looping..
I tried New SD card, erase data, davlik, re partitioned, downloaded a fresh version off the net just incase my copy was corrupt and still looped
I took it to the sprint store before they closed and got a new phone.
I Would seriously look into this obviously I wasnt the only one

Yes TrevE says it may have something to do with /data/private-app/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6174954&postcount=1951
All I know, it boots like normal, I install exchange, hotmail. some market apps. titanium apps, paid and free, then when I went to reboot I backed up in nandroid, then when it actually booted, it was stuck in the HTC quietly brilliant and the start up of the sprint logo and keep looping. TreVe suggested adb logcat but I can not get that far to log the error. He said he logged it as the private-app
Oh I also tried to delete sd ext, davik, remove sdcard, run from the nandroid back up and everyway made the loop. I think TrevE is onto something though. I have one app that I install that is a private app that is from Titanium that may cause this.
Oh and btw, if I wipe the rom and reboot it boots up normally so i think it has something to do with something that is installed. Is anyone else using titanium backup to restore a paid app? Installing a paid app from the sdcard??

Not much left to look into since the phone is gone. I would have restored to the unrooted 1.56 ruu to test, but I guess a new phone is good too.
Try flashing a different ROM as in different frameworks. Sometimes going back to a 1.5 ROM can fix weird issues like that.
I went with fresh's Rom this time instead of dc. Everything has been good so far.
I had a problem with a loop with both DC and Fresh. It all began after I set up my Exchange email. I am using Touchdown and I haven't had any issues.
Keep on mind I never added or used any private apps. This happened after the update through the loader. I changed nothing and have been using the same apps for months.
I kept having these issues after 2.07.2 even after a full wipe and reset still no dice. So I just went to Fresh.

im just downloading the rom for you now so i can extract the framework, if you pull your battery out, you can either plug in your charger while its off, this will bring up recovery, or while its off, hold vol down and press power, that will take you to bootloader, and just pick recovery from the list, now when in recovery, if you navigate to the mounts and storage menu, choose the option mount usb storage, you can now connect to a pc as a disk drive and copy stuff to your sd card
im having trouble uploading attachments to xda at the min dya want me to upload it to megaupload for you?
AndroHero,
Thank you for helping me out. I didn't know about the vol down press power option which allows you to acces the sd card and intall a new rom. I had the revolution rom 2.0.9 already. It's installing as we speak. Much thanks for the tips!
To early hooray. I choose the option with the revolution zip for a complete install. After the install I selected rebouut system now. Now it stays on the white HTC screen with the text HTC quitely brilliant. Flashing every 3 seconds or so....
What to do now?
Everything is resolved. revolution is up and running again. I had to un the fullwipe.zip and that did it!
THANKS a lot for all the tips....again

Did you do a full wipe before re-flashing your ROM? even if you did just repeat the process , full wipe /cache, /dalvik-cache, /system and then re-flash the rom fingers crossed it should work

Could it be possible that you installed cwm 3005 and tried a restore with that. I had the same problem. Went back to cwm 2.5.x and then restore worked.

I think there will be a lot of scare because of this CWM 3x...
Same happened to me the other day, stupidly accecpted the update prompt from Rom Manager, did my backup and went to install Cyanogen 6... Got stuck at HTC logo next boot.
Thankfuly, had Leedroid 2.0 on the SD, too, and that one flashed properly
Thing is that when I try to downgrade the Recovery to 2.5x I get an error and really can't be bothered with ADB pushing stuff around, so using Cyanogen 7 for the time beeing
Anyhow, CWM 3.x is likely your problem, easy to fix ^^
Wanting to change my theme on the Samsung spica I had theexact problem on cyanogen mod. Had to redo the whole rooting and installing the Rom again to get to work.

[Q] MyTouch 4g: Multiple problems... PLEASE help.

Okay, I've searched and searched and no one seems to have the specific problem that I'm having with my phone, so I'm taking to the forums myself. I've been rooting since the G1, I know how to adb push things, I have used google and multiple forums to try to fix this problem. So here goes, anyone that can help I thank you in advance.
1-My phone, like some other MT4G users, reboots itself each time it's plugged in. Initially I thought this was because I was using a Kindle cord to plug it into the pc, so I bought an MT4G usb cable from tmobile, and still it boot loops (just the first white screen for maybe 4 seconds, then black then again and again). The only way to charge it is to let it start boot looping, take the battery out, turn it on, and if I'm lucky enough that it begins to boot up correctly I plug it in mid boot. If I wait til it's fulled loaded it just starts rebooting again.
2-It will not at all from any angle go into Recovery mode. If I try to go to recovery from Rom Manager, or from the screen you get when holding power and lower volume key or by flashing a rom through Rom Manager, it just boot loops just like mentioned above, until I pull the battery for a while (it is currently sitting next to me with the battery out) and then put it back in.
3-If by chance it's on, and plugged into the computer, it is not at all recognized. Ever. While it's booting up my computer finds something, but doesn't know what it is, and doesn't allow me to view any folders on the SD card. Yes I've installed the HTC drivers file. I've adb'ed things to this phone before, now it says device not found. I don't know when it stopped being recognized...
4-I've even tried to fastboot something over to it, but to no avail, still not found.
If I try to do a factory reset, it boot loops. If I sneeze it boot loops.... I don't know what to do, and if I trade it in under warranty, I have to reset it to stock rom, or they're going to charge me for a new phone. Any ideas!?
I have Cyanogen mod 7 on here.
have you tried a fastboot wipe? or have you tried to reboot to recovery from adb?
First, I don't trust using the actual ROM Manager app to do the flashing/installing.
Since you've been flashing since the G1 days why not use Clockwork Recovery? Just go into recovery and do the necessary wipes.
So I suggest to do a complete full wipe in Clockwork, meaning wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache. Install the newest CM nightly (Which is working wonderfully BTW) and see if your problems still persists.
Edit: I didn't realize you tried to enter recovery, oops. But yeah try what the buy above me said. Try re-installing the latest CWM recovery, if that still fails then try heading into there via ADB.

I second that, flashing ROMs from ROM Manager a terrible idea.
Well...if all else fails and if you are really thinking about returning it and still under warranty...few seconds in the microwave method should work just fine. They wont be able to see that its rooted if the phone wouldn't turn on, would they???
glimmer of hope...
So by the grace of god I did get it flashed back to unrooted, stock 2.2 by putting it as pd15img.zip on my sd card and going into bootloader. Once that was done I thought I would be out of the woods... I even plugged it in last night and no boot loop!! but this morning I unpllugged it (and I'm using a tmobile cable for the phone attached to my pc) and here it sits, next to me again with the battery out of it because everytime I try to turn it on (for over 40 minutes now) it boot loops to that stupid white screen (that is honestly driving me insane at this point). I know that it isn't rooted (because I dl'ed rom manager and it won't let me do anything without being rooted) so do we think that I'm safe to go to the store today to request a new one be sent? Thoughts? And thanks for the help thus far!
yeah I would send that back
Bad emmc chip? I'm sorry man, that's a terrible story.

So, have I bricked my phone?

Used ROM Manager and downloaded Leedriod 3.0, ran Terminal Emulator and did everything by the book. Went into ClockWork Recovery mode and everything looked okay. Then went to HTC boot animation screen and that's where it has been ever since. Every five minutes or so I get the delightful sound of HTC and a permanently on HTC, Quietly Brilliant Boot screen. It's been going like that for about 25 minutes now.
Any help would be appreciated.
No its not bricked, its in bootloop.
This is what i do when it happens to me:
Pull out the battery. If the phone is off, turn it back on with volume down + power on button. Wait till you get the bootloader screen. Now select recovery. In ClockWork Recovery you can set your backup back. (if you had made one before).
I hope its helps you. Goodluck.
Or just copy another rom file to the sd card and flash again.
Unfortunately I made the classic error of not backing up first, was trying to do this while in work (not good) so I presume at this point I'm screwed

It doesn't hurt to try to flash the rom you already have once again.
Just what joooe said. Use super wipe to clear data. just for sure.
Good luck.

Just a quick thanks to you guys, did Super Wipe and installed Android Revolution 6.20 last night and all went well. It was worth the screw up to have the small learning curve in the end
I did this one of the first times i flashed roms
i did have abackup first but its a scary experience lol

Please.

Guys please I know this is the wrong forum but no one is answering help. At all. Alright, I went to flash the ICS Sense alpha, and needed to restore a backup. I went into hboot, and restored the PD98IMG.zip. Afterwards it said "Press power to reboot" so i did. The phone turned off, and now nothing. After a LONG time the phone turned on to the White HTC Splash and vibrated CONSTANTLY, until the battery was pulled. I tried volume down + power but nothing. Except for the occasional white screen, nothing. Please, anyone/.
You're bricked
Sent from my Desire HD using telepathy...
I think your phone had a bootloop. Did you already installed custom recovery? Can you enter it through fastboot menu (vol down + power)?
I doubt he's bricked, why are you restoring that zip? You restore your back up....from clockwork?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
It won't enter into fastboot. Occasionally the white HTC screen comes on with a constant vibrate and the only way to stop that is to pull the battery. No fastboot, no recovery, nothing.
It wouldnt enter into recovery so I had to take the long way, by using the PD98IMG

I am confused. So what exactly happens when doing this:
remove or rename the PD98IMG on the sd card
pull the battery from the DHD
re-enter it and hold volume down and power until the hboot starts
navigate by volume down/up to Recovery and press POWER
If you had to restore back to factory, why bother flashing ICS?
You should get away by installing one of the RUU using PC. here is a guide on how to install RUU and you'll have to search this section to find a RUU or google it.
Though firstly i would ask you if you can go into the recovery mode anyhow since you're saying that your phone can get the HTC logo. For that, hold down POWER + volume DOWN key to get you into hboot (IF YOU CAN) and choose recovery from there, once in recovery, go to option where you wipe your data + cache, wipe both of em and try restarting again...If you can't even get into recovery then do the RUU way of getting the rom working.
EDIT:
I'm not sure what in the world happened, but it booted into the ATT stock ROM. After 30 minutes of vibration and idk what else, it finally booted.
Lol least its on

Gratz, suppose this thread's unnecessary now?
Anyway take care of what you do: always do a nandroid backup prior to flashing everything. Better spend 5min for backup than 5 days without a phone.
I think know what happens. If I remember correctly you had your phone replaced. And it came with gb. The pd98 you flashed was the froyo one. Hence the crazy vibration and long boot time. If Im right thisvwill happen each time you reboot Until you get the gb bootloader back on
Also spamming the threads is a pretty good way of getting banned. Maybe zel or Andy will be nice about it

That sounds somewhat correct. I DID get it replaced, but had a GB PD98 on the SD card. Anyway, it vibrated for quite some time, and eventually the vibration stopped. So I let the phone sit as I figured out some way to salvage the phone. And the the next HTC splash booted, and the phone proceeded into the stock ROM. Idk what happened, but I'm not complaining.
Dear Lord, it just turned off and is doing it again. But, I'm praying for the best again. Thanks guys.

The phone itself is already rooted, but I tried booting into CWM, and it did the same thing as it did before. So I have to run the RUU, and then S on the phone, and run the hack kit again. I already ran the RUU once, and nothing.
Probably best just to start over and do everything again, even if you've already done it,maybe the root didnt work?
