I've seen similar posts, but nothing close enough to this issue that any of the suggestions have helped.
I lost power while updating the ROM. My SX56 froze on the screen telling me that the update would take about 5 mins. I attempted to follow some of the troubleshooting tips I found here to flash the ROM using an SD card, but I don't have an actual SD card reader, so I was using a digital camera connected via USB. I seemed to be making progress, but after trying to backup existing ROM from the Bootloader, the SD card was reading as unformatted when I connected back to my PC. I wiped the card and tried to start over, but now I can't even get into the bootloader. I just have a screen filled with black jagged lines and two white boxes (like text fields) toward the top.
Any advice, or did I just turn my phone into a paperweight?
from what i remember of the wallaby, it has been a few years since i have played with one, when you backup the rom to sd card it wont be readable by the pc as it is a raw image. Saying that the screen you describe you are seeing the black jagged lines and 2 white boxes just sounds like a corrupted screen. I'm afraid i cant give you any more info as like i have said it has been a long time since i messed with a wallaby0
Hello everyone
It's been a while since I've posted here so my apologies. I've been so excited with Android on my HD2 I haven't really gotten around to posting, Obsessive Flashing Disorder .
So I have numerous questions for y'all.
1) NAND is horrible for me. I flash MAGLDR, I've also used the Clockwork Mod, but whenever a build installs, it sticks on the white screen with the "htc" logo in green smack bang in the middle of the screen. Left it for over half an hour in school while in school, all that came up was the setup quiz, which btw was extremely unresponsive and as I pressed next it would go back to the white screen, then I'd wait 5 minutes, and I'd be presented with the next step. I've flashed a NAND ROM multiple times and tried a Clockwork Mod ROM and it's the same. However, on the Clockwork ROM I Managed to complete setup and could send a text, only because my girlfriend text me and I could pull down the "Notifications" tab. It stuck on the home screen saying "loading" constantly. SD Card was partitioned properly too...
2) Gave up with a NAND ROM and tried Windows Phone 7. Loved it! Just needed to activate it. Got skype, got the number, America and Canada only. No problems, the guy gave me the number for UK and I phoned it on my landline to be told to call between 8 and 6 Mon-To-Friday. Fine, I copy my old SD build of android to my SD Card and tell MAGLDR to boot from Android SD instead. It goes fine, loads up, then restarts and I'm told "cannot find zImage", this process just repeats and repeats. Did I do something idiotic or?
Note: The SD build is from the original way of booting WinMo then Android.
3) Wake up lag. Ugh, I get such bad wake up lag. Unfortunately it can take up to 2 minutes for my phone to unlock. Next time I'll try and grab a video camera and record it. Sometimes I also have to press the unlock key numerous times for it to actually even do anything. My phone, SD Card or? There was no lag on WP7, and my SD card is a 16Gb Class 4 card.
4) Colours on the display become inverted. Yeah, inverted, but more towards the whitish end. Again I'll try and get photo evidence next time, but I have to restart and then everything is fine. Kernel problems, or is my phone starting to give up the ghost?
Many thanks guys, I aim to start helping out a lot more!

1) & 2)Stick with WP7
To boot from SD, make sure u set up magldr to boot from the correct directory by going into services, and choosing the folder. If it still doesn't work, then its likely you have to do the following mod:
This Thread
3) Got the same problem, 8GB Class 6
4) Got the same problem, happens randomly and so far only on sense builds for whatever reason.
Haha I would, if there was Angry Birds and associated games
3) Bizarre... I've read it's Kernel related so...
4) Yeah I only use Desire HD builds too. Looks like it is sense based.
Alright Moon2, thanks for your help!
Like a fool I tried "upgrading" my micro SD card. I followed the steps others have had progress on. When I reboot the phone, none of my settings stay and all my apps are gone ! So of course I panic and put the original SD card back in. Now its doing the same thing, it isn't seeing the storage, its showing now that I have 15.83 MEGABYTES of total storage with 10.83 MB free. After downloading 2 apps it now says I have 1mb of storage free and it wont let me download anything due to it seeing I have no room left. I've tried multiple restarts, even tried factory resets with both cards, without a card, same result, is there anything I can do ? Or do I now have a dumb phone that can only run one app and make calls ? Please any help would MUCH be appreciated.
/Thanks...
Brian
Most likely the phone has done a hard reset without any storage card present. See, Windows Phone extends its filesystem across all available storage media (NAND, SD, etc.) and does this only at first boot (setup). So if no SD card is available at first boot, it will only map about 15MB of memory and completely ignore any SD card you put in later.
You can fool the device into doing this for you by resetting the phone (About > Reset) and removing the battery at the moment the device is booting again (but before it shows the setup screen). Best is to remove the battery at the moment you see the Dell logo. This way you interupt the reset process, making it restart next time. Now you can put in any card you want. Just repeat the process you did before and place either the original card or the new card back.
Thanks for the reply, I'm sort of confused, that is what I did when I first put in the new SD card. It didn't accept it I assume,, or maybe I pulled the battery too late ? I waited till I seen the Dell symbol then pulled the battery. Then I took out the original SD, put the new one in, then booted it up. It then went through the normal setup (setting up windows live etc..) then when I checked the storage it was 15.83mb,, so I did it again but putting the original sd back in, and its the same,, basically no storage.
Ok, right now the sd card is in the slot, do I need to remove it,, then do a reset, pull the battery at the dell logo, put the sd back in, then power it up ? or can I just do the reset with the card in it (even tho its not seeing it), do the reset, pull the battery at the logo, then power it back up? I have tried it 4 times so far with the card still in, I do the reset, pull the battery, boot it back up it skips all the setup, right to the start screen, all the dell apps (newsroom, telenav, myaccount etc. are not there) its like a blank/with only apps like mail, messaging, pictures- wp7 phone. When I first put in the new card it appeared to accept it... it went through the set up just like the first time i turned it on... I seen the storage it was there, I downloaded apps, everything was good. Then I wanted to see if it would keep it, so i powered down the phone like normal (not hard reset) and when I booted back up , everything was gone, and the storage was 15mbs.. I've managed to re-blacken the sticker, got it back in place, its stuck on there good just like it came, surprisingly there was no "void" on the sticker at all, either way I talked to Dell they sent me a new one, will get it on Monday, then they can have this crap back. Its ridiculous that you CAN'T remove the REMOVABLE storage *(which is exactly what a SD card is) without voiding the warranty. Either way we'll see what happens, hope they dont notice. there were only 3 lil spots of black missing on the tape when I took it off, I touched it up with black fingernail polish It looks exactly like my wifes venue pro now

ok, you missed a step...so read again. To change cards, first you hard reset. When the phone reboots, pull the battery, swap the card. When the phone restarts, go through setup, you will have a working card. Want to change cards again, repeat ALL the steps, including hard reset.
No shortcuts here, 1 2 3 4. Hard reset, pull battery on reboot, do your card swap, restart, walk through the setup.
Oh, remember this, hard reset is not a reboot. Its like a format. Everything on the phone AND card are gone.
I understand, and that is what I have done and I am still trying to do. I just did factory reset, I hit yes twice, the screen goes black, as soon as the Dell logo pops up I remove the battery. I put the SD card in, put the battery back in, then power up the phone. Everytime the phone totally skips the setup part and goes directly to the start screen as if no SD card is in there. I totally understand the instructions.

by chance, are you plugged in to a charger while doing this? If so, disconnect. If you pull the card, no hard reset, will the phone start ok? If yes, try hard reset, pull battery, no other power source, put the card back in, and restart.
If you're getting no different reaction either with or without the card, then you are correct. Some thing is not right.
Ya I've tried it every which way, with card in, with it out, same process, nope not connected to charger. I've only had the phone a few days, they are sending a new unit.. I so delicately took the sticker off with a very, very small needle, could only see one part of the black missing on the sticker whihc I touched up on the bottom side. Sticker looks untouched,,, I don't believe this counts as a warranty claim anyways since I've had the phone 5 days.. we'll see what happens, I'm not really sure what they could do anyhow considering they have already sent me a new phone and told me to ship the defective one back once I receive the replacement..

good luck then . I've heard of a few devices like this...but not many.
HELLO everyone.
Please help me with the further painfull problem.
I bought brand new s7 edge. It was great phone. Somehow it transformed in photo destroyer. It has got 64 gb sd card bought brand new also. I save images to phones internal memore and sometimes to sd. It corrupts my photos on regular basis...
I feel like this pgone become piece of ****. I cant actually handle disappearing photos...
To clarify things, i use android ftom the ages of s2. I am familiar with how it works pretty well. However i cant find any logical explanation for that. Please have a look at images attached.
This phone became nightmare. In case of impossible recovery, it is possible to open law case against samsung? It sounds the same as vw selling cars with diesel gas emmision trick. Or even wors imagine buying brand new cars with no brakes.
My sd card works fine. All the photos and videos i took were good for some time. Afterwards it become corrupted.
Quick pick doesnt help. Nomedia files doesnt exist. Tried clearing cach of apps, cleared phone cach through recovery. Phone is full stock.
Sorry if its duplicate thread but xda search doesnt work...
Btw third picture is irrelevant. It showed up us corrupted so i tried uploading it. It seems to be good. Not sure about the others.
Looks like you're using a 3rd party gallery app, Google Photos? Have you tried the regular gallery app?
What is the make and model of the sd card?
Sent from my S7 Edge
Same thing was happening on my S6. Nearly all photos after every rom reflash were corrupted. And they didn't even work on other devices like computer etc. I haven't ever fixed that.
All You can do is download a app that does file recovery. It will scan Your phone for like 5 minutes and then show You all files. Eventually all those pictures will be back but with poor quality. They look like android has cached them or something. They are usually 100-300kb and have weird names with just numbers.
I will later on write the make of my sd card. I believe it is sandisk high class 64 gb bought brand new. Formated in phone. However pictures disappear not only from card but internal memory aswell.
As i didnt flash any roms yet i should be covered with warranty. I feel like this su edge is far from good. Could it be internal memory corruption? Or what...
Update no 1 to the situation:
It all started when i was taking pictures of the clouds. Camera app froze. So naturally i closed camera app and opened it again. Same happened. Shutter button was frozen. And the mini gallery button was unresponsive. Then i restarted the phone. It took ages. I noticed the blue notification led was on for a long time and restart itself took ages. The phone sit there for about 10 min with that blue light. I thought it was dead. It didnt respond to any button combinations, like power press or power long press. Even recovery combination didnt respond. And later on it booted.
Update 2. Now i performed media rescan. I see thumnails but then i press pocture it shows grey screen and same sort symbol of corrupted media file. I took some new pictures of my gf. Looked at them later on. Tried to send them through the mail to gf. She never received no email even though it was said "email was sent" on screen. After a while they was gone. Gone like never existed...

So even after flashing new roms the same happened? I believe it must be faulty memory unit then. That is really sad. I never expected to buy phone for 820 euros and get this piecie of s***...
What happens when you select one of those photos? Do they display?.......
If so, then possibly your thumbnail cache is corrupt.
Try looking in both internal and external SD cards within the DCIM and Camera folders and remove any thumbnail folders, and also look within the Android folder on the root of both cards for your gallery app, and see if there are thumbnail or cache folders within there.
Its also worth trying to delete cache+data for your gallery app. If you remove anything, reboot before opening your app.
If they do not open on selecting, if you have a USB micro sd card reader, then try copying your external SD card contents to PC, format external SD card (via the phone, and not via windows) and copy back
Another thing to try is to clear cache+data for Media Storage.

I think my leftovers were in some data folder or one of the folders in the root directory ( / ). But other than that I guess it has to be a faulty unit. Cause now my S7 Edge doesn't do that anymore.
But don't worry, faulty units are really COMMON. I've had quite many phones with different issues. Some of them had broken USB port, some used to restart every hour or two. But don't think that only Android phones have those issues. My IPhone 6 also had a broken call speaker. And yeah. You have to be REALLY LUCKY to get a device that isn't faulty nowadays.
And if You still have warranty then get a replacement.
Or just try doing a factory reset and maybe it will disappear.
My SD820 S7edge was doing the same thing. I was losing pictures regularly, but only while saving them to the SD card (Sandisk 64 gig). I've been saving them to the internal memory, have had no problems since.
Hello guys. Thanks you all for responds and suggestions. I probably find out what it is. It should be sd cars. I bought lexar 633x 64gb and PLEASE PEOPLE DONT BUY THEM. They appear to change their write permission on the instance without of any luck of going backwards. My explanation for disappearing photos from internal memory sounds like that:
As I explained how it happened for the first time, I used external memory at that instance. Camera app crashed. So I bet Some of the photos was ruined by Android itself because it wasn't able to write into card.
Right now I made full reset through recovery menu. Hopefully my photos won't disappear any more. In a mean time I won't be using any external memory just to clarify that my unit is not faulty. I don't wanna loose the feelings of appreciation for the samsung. You see, before s7 Edge I used note 2 bought back in London. It was brand new and I used it up until 24th of June of 2016. Battery was and still is perfect. I had marvelously enjoyed many different roms and everything I was able achieve with it. I wouldn't bought new one, but camera in the note was desent and it was probably this single reason as I am working as a video maker and hobbyist photographer...
Thank you all again. I will post here if anything comes up.
Glad you've got it sorted, that's why I asked what make the sd card was in my first reply, I had the same problem with a cheap card I brought, now I only by sandisk and only from genuine resellers, plus my photos are backed up to the cloud immediately after I've taken them.
Pete
Hi Guys,
Today was my karma day. IDK what I did wrong, but my phone just stopped working and that just added a big problem to me.
So about the problem.
Short story - need to recover at least photos from the phone.
Long story - Today the phone just shut itself down and after trying to turn back it on it seems like it's in a boot loop or something similar to that. Video (BELOW) (sry for a long video, just wanted to capture it all). I can't start it normally nor my pc detects the phone... I tried a couple of recovery programs but A) They don't do **** B) They don't support S7 edge. So I tried to see if I could access the phone from called "odin screen" where you go when you root or mod your phone, but no luck there. So the only option I see is left to me, even that I don't want to, I need to somehow root the phone or do some "magic" that you guys know more about to access the phone memory and extract photos, if possible other data, to my pc. That is the main objective. The secondary is of course to fix the god damn phone, but even root kitty like me should handle that. P.S. Forgot to tell, but it's visible in the video - the LED is turned on with blue light all the time while it does that, even when I go to recovery screen or "odin screen".
Objectives:
MAIN:
A) Recover data.
Secondary:
B) Fix phone.
P.S. It's late for me, so I won't be able to try much today, so hopefully tomorrow after trying your suggestions something will work :good:
P.S.S. While making the video, I encountered a new bug, PHOTO (BELOW).
P.S.S.S. This phone was never rooted or moded, bought from a UK shop and used for 4 ish years.
P.S.S.S.S. As I'm new and can't post links... They are below:
